Ivy just turned 2 in May.  Why is she dressed in a dress and leggings in the middle of summer? Do fundies really believe that a girl that young shouldn't show her knees or wear a pair of pants without a skirt over the pants?  It seemslike such a peculiar thing to care about.

It seems like the Duggars care, even if other fundies don't.  I guess it makes sense that they would, considering their family history,

Just watched a Jessa video where she and Ivy had a "date."  First she took her to Chic-fil-a for a kids meal and then to Starbucks for a fancy drink.  That was a lot of food for a two year-old.  Anyway, Ivy was truly adorable and knows a lot of words--and she was wearing black pants.  And black is her favorite color!

I think Ivy is adorable, and I love her name. Don’t judge but I named my kitten Ivy and end up calling her Ivy Jane by accident all the time because of Jessa. Oops.
Ben may be an idiot, but they do make pretty kids together.

I agree but with an uncle like Josh creeping around the TTH and at family holiday parties and other celebrations I like it that Ivy has leggings.

However.... When she's just at home with her family it seems a bit much.

Dustbunny, I thought about this also. It may be a delayed reaction on Jessa's part to being molested. She is trying to keep Ivy safe.  It really is sad that an innocent child has to dress like this because of what that pervert did to her mother.

Jesse has a brother that’s been caught with child porn. That may influence her to cover her little one up more.  It may seem ridiculous to some but feel like a layer of protection to her.

My favorite part is the end when Jessa arrives home and Bin is blasting rap music.

Hopefully Christian rap music, right??  Whatever happened to Flame?  I wonder if he and Bin are still sweet friends.

I was curious about ole Flame, so I looked him up. He's 39, released 9 albums, and has a Grammy nomination. He and Ben aren't even on the same planet, especially now that Ben no longer has a TV show.

Jessa has gone from less than one video a month on average, to four videos in the last ten days. She's going to be right up with Jill soon. Jill and Jessa went from a camera crew in their living room a few days a week to shoving a phone in their kids faces almost daily.

That girl day with Ivy seemed to be what Jessa wanted for lunch and all about Jessa. Ivy just went along for the ride. How boring...they ate in the car and didn't go out and do anything together, A sad excuse for quality time with your daughter if you ask me. It would have been better if Ben and the boys went out somewhere and Jessa and Ivy had some activity together at home; just the two of them since Jessa is "big pregnant". Did anyone see the condition of the outside of that door? Disgraceful if you ask me. Slap a coat of fresh paint on it. Jessa is such a pig.

Jessa and Ben are apparently not house proud, as my grandmother would say.

Drives me crazy when Jessa calls Ivy “Sis” yes I guess it’s a cute nickname but the boys were not there and Ivy is not Jessa’s sister. Seems like the point of the car trip was to talk to Ivy about the new baby but not sure how successful that was.

I’m not surprised that they will have a cargo cult mentality that reverts to their childhood, and to more successful times.  Desperation a hell of a drug.

It drives me crazy as well when she says sis or sister. In one video of them at her parents house, they were outside doing stuff and Jessa kept referring to Ivy as 'sister'.  I've never really heard a parent use that before, I thought it was weird. And it was getting so annoying.

I come from a culture where adults regularly refer to children as "mami/mama" and "papi/papa" so I have no room to judge the "sis" thing. It sounds weird to me because I see that a lot in social media circles I wouldn't expect Jessa to be aware of, but who knows, it could be more common than I know.

My BFF is the oldest of 4 sisters and everyone in her family including brothers in law and nieces and nephews all call her “Sister”.  And they are all educated and employed (except the younger ones who are in school)

In Jessa's case, I see the "sis" for Ivy as an identifier of her role to be a sister-mom, and everything else that goes along with being female in their culture.  To me, it's just a constant reminder to Ivy that she will have an expected position to maintain.  I hope I'm wrong and that it is a term of endearment.

Matt Roloff called his daughter, Molly, sister. It was the first time I was exposed to that term of endearment.

It’s a southern thing. Bubba, Bubby, sis, sissy and sister are super common and we don’t look twice when we hear it with or without the siblings.

when she starts calling her “little mama” then I’d be worried about the sister mom role.

Far be it from me to defend Jessa, but as smart as Ivy is, I wouldn't expect a 2 year old to decide where they were going to get food.  I judge these things mostly by the reaction of the child and Ivy seemed happy with the attention and the day out.  The only thing of concern was the emphasis on the coming baby.  I think that is still an abstract concept to Ivy.

Michelle would call the boys brother and the girls sister.  And we all know how much Jessa does not deviate...

I perceive the "sis" and "sister" thing as regional and not particularly sinister.

OTOH it seems that Jessa is following her parents' patterns in her life including parenting, homeschooling, etc. She's practically doubled down on some things, including growing her own hair into a super-long mess, rocking a limited wardrobe of frumpwear, and apparently buying used and saving the difference when it comes to shoes for herself and the kids. Maybe by the time Spurgeon is old enough to start courting, she'll dry-hump Ben on a miniature golf course as she taunts her son that she can have teh sex and he can't. A chip off the old block, that Jessa, and sly too.

ETA: I agree with @Suzn that you probably aren't going to expect a two year old to pick the lunch venue, and if Ivy was happy, that's fine.

Ivy appeared to enjoy herself, and that’s all that matters.  And yeah, that door needs some attention, as does the front door.

May I rephrase to Ben is such a pig?  Jessa should not be painting while pregnant and surely he can be accountable for some aspects of their life.

Her being big pregnant probably throws off all of the jurisdictions as well.

That said, if they have jurisdictions it could well be her responsibility.

I don't like to defend Jessa but it looked to me like Ivy had a great time. The fact that Jessa might have wanted chik-fil-A more than Ivy doesn't seem like a big deal as the kid enjoyed her chicken, enjoyed her time with mom, and got a smoothie afterwards that she clearly enjoyed. When she's older she'll have more of an opinion about what a fun day looks like but for now? At 2? She just knew she was with mom and got to eat lunch in the car (different = fun for some kids).

Actually in the video she was wearing a black tee and jeans so she has changed a little. I’d be curious to know why she is now wearing jeans/pants.  I don’t think she’s ever addressed it. It hasn’t been that long that it’s popped up on her social media.

I’m snarking on the ‘car date’ how about taking the drive through food to a park where Ivy could have had a play and had lunch.
Or even a picnic basket made at home to take

Ivy looked to me liked she was over the car with the climbing everywhere

Jessa could have sent Bin and the boys out and had a backyard picnic, they have that deck that comes off the bedroom into the backyard. Ivy would stil, have one on one time with Jessa in an age appropriate way

I just don’t understand containing a 2 year old to a car

I want to make clear that I referred to Jessa being a 'pig' regarding her housekeeping and yes, Ben should have painted that door a long time ago and should help maintain a more orderly house..it seems the guy does not have a j.o.b....assistant pastor at that small church does not take up lots of time...nor can it pay very well. He needs to look in to full time employment with benefits.

I'm not defending Jessa at all here. If Chick-fil-A there is anything like ours, you still can't eat inside. It's drive-thru or curbside pick up only. Not that I think Jessa would go inside and eat if it were open.

But but but but....He teaches at the SOTDRT right? I'm sure it's full time and he gets the most excellent benefits!🤣🤣🤣🤣

I wonder if we'll ever see the day where any of these people get a REAL job? Derick is the only one so far with whatever delivery service he worked for while in school and if he passes the bar and becomes a lawyer.

Jessa made sure we knew she was wearing pants - twice. She's grasping at straws to keep the interest going. The next thing you know, Henry will be is speech therapy. 🤞🏽 (and maybe Sam can join him)

It’s Arkansas. I’m sure it’s open. Jill just took Sam there and ate inside for his birthday. I’m sure Jessa would lie over the littlest thing. So I’m up in the air whether to believe her or not.

My only problem with the car date is expecting Ivy to comprehend events that are in the immediate future. Children, especially children that age do not have a comparable cognition to adults. I would love to tie Jesse to a chair and have her sit through developmental psychology lectures, watch a few videos on child development, and pound for in some common sense
