Oh for fuck’s sake, she should shut up.  It’s clear that the pandemic has had no meaningful impact on their lives. We’ve seen them doing the exact same things during the pandemic as they did before it. They haven’t lost a friend or family member to COVID, a job (not that either had one to lose), or their home. They aren’t standing in line for a food pantry or hoping their stimulus check has been deposited so they can get their lights turned back on. It’s ridiculous and fake for her to talk about how difficult the year has been but it’s all God’s plan when the worse she faced was not being able to eat indoors at a restaurant whenever she wanted. She hasn’t learned anything from the past year.

That being said, where is Jinger exactly preaching in this post? Unless she changed something in the interim, all I see is reference to how many people have suffered way beyond what might be considered normal, but nothing about it being, somehow, God's plan or how faith can comfort you through it or anything...

Seriously, I think Jingle's spent most of her life frequently disappearing into somebody else's shadow.  So when somebody else is the dominant person in her vicinity, it's their thoughts and feelings that take center stage and it's natural to her to not even think of pointing to anything similar of her own....And since the other person is the dominant one and since they're used to meek Jingle not usually asserting anything, they don't notice anything odd about this kind of thing happening....That's my guess, anyway.  

Jer must like that photo, or he would never have pointed it out...(back then he probably figured he had a real shot as a magazine model! He's doing the pose and the face there....and he was a little better looking back then, although I still wouldn't write home....).....

Anyway, since he was reminiscing, when Jingle thinks "holidays" and then "nostalgia," she thinks about what he's been reminiscing about.  He's the character on stage (like Jessa was) and Jingle's a combination of stagehand and a bit of scenery. That's just how she rolls, I expect. They hog stuff. She helps them get what they want.

Anybody watch Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt when it was on? One of the secondary characters, Gretchen, was with Kimmy in the cult, and she was the most enthusiastic participant. When they all got out and the cult disbanded, she ended up joining a new cult.

The point is, while Gretchen in the bunker reminded me of Jill a long time ago, the Gretchen after the cult disbanded reminds me more of present day Jinger. Interestingly, present day Jill is the most like Kimmy...kind of dorky but well-meaning and enthusiastic.

THIS ^.. i also say STFU when you are completely out of the loop.  I want to go have dinner with my 84 year old uncle and i have a cold (NOT Covid) and i don't want to kill him.  I have 3 complete stupid cousins who had Covid after Christmas.. but again all gathered for a New Years day dinner with my aunt (who is the only masker - and her granddaughter is pregnant).  Maybe "I am the asshole".  I'm depressed, have insomnia frequently and so very hard try to keep myself and everyone else safe and healthy.  I miss my friends and family.. the only way i'm seeing them is on my computer or hearing their voice thru the phone.  So these people can just BITE ME.

Particularly when we've seen proof that Jinger and her family have deliberately flouted all of the recommendations for stemming the pandemic.  No masks when in public unless taking a photo for the 'gram, attending church shoulder to shoulder with thousands of other unmasked idiots, and making multiple trips and hanging out with people who are not part of their household.

So she's basically been doing the exact same things that thousands upon thousands of Americans have done for the the past 9 months.   Her family is not unique.  Every single one of us knows a family or group just like them. 

And I imagine some here are IN a group or family like that, but won't admit it.

One man's "tone deaf" is another (and better!) man's "sermon everyone in this sinful world desperately needs to hear"! That actually is the theology they embrace. So anything they accidentally or purposely dis is rightly dissed, in their view. Those who preach rightly can never be tone deaf. God's speaking through them, and his tone is always the right one.

Of course they run into trouble here because they desperately want to both be saved by the correct Jesus and reap fame (and money) from a bunch of mainstream people who don't believe what they believe. So -- mixed and blurry and messed-up tones abound. The dilemmas of the breakout stars!  😁

I personally don't see anything wrong with her post. There is nothing inherently wrong with acknowledging Christ and that this has been a difficult year for people. It seems like anytime that God/Christ/Christianity comes up it's immediately offensive to some. I don't think her post was directed towards anyone but rather just a reflection.

The problem is that it isn't ignorance. Because the key part of their particular theology is to deliberately ignore anything that calls for helping others or protecting others. 

Their particular theology declares that a Christian's only duty is to embrace the correct Jesus for his or her own personal, individual salvation. And that the correct Jesus makes absolutely no other demands on Christians to do anything at all to help anyone else or improve conditions in the world or anything of that nature. 

This is what the MacArthur "social justice" letter is about. This is why MacArthur deliberately flouts public-health rules.

Jeremy's Jesus (and the Jesus of the Duggars) doesn't care at all about humans doing any "good" for others. When you "put Jesus first" in their sense, it means that you focus on Jesus and  your personal relationship to him only.

 In the Jer/Jingle view, Jesus is going to come back soon. And when he does, he's going to fix things, so humans have no need to worry about fixing anything. The only thing good Christians have to do is believe that firmly, and they'll be fine. Paying attention to something like a public-health rule or practicing charity toward others is, in their theology, a distraction from the proper focus of your religion, which is to believe believe believe believe believe in that Jesus, who will in return grant you personal salvation. 

People always talk about the fact that these people don't pay attention to Christ's messages about love and charity and so on. But what that criticism misses is that to these particular white conservative evangelicals that is not Christ's message. Christ's message, in the belief system that Jer and Jingle hold, is "Believe in Me and I will save you personally for a happy eternal life. And if you distract yourself with other things like seeking justice or charity for other people, then you're not sufficiently focused on your belief in Me. And, thus, YOU SIN when you focus on something else, like trying to fight racism or save others from a pandemic. Focus on your faith in ME, and on that only." 

That's the particular "hope they hold," Jingle and Jer. It's about their personal salvation and absolutely nothing else. "People dying of Covid because I breathed on them? Pish tosh! Doesn't matter to Jesus or to me! He'll save 'em if they believe in him, Covid or not. And those who don't believe in him are damned. So my making them sick has no significance in this world or the next. Everything everything depends only on each person's individual choice to believe in the correct Jesus or not. So we should never consider anything beyond that."  

That is literally what MacArthur's social justice letter says.  And I can give you a dozen scholarly references pointing to this as the essential core of Christian belief for a large swath of other white conservative evangelicals as well, including all the ones we talk about here. 

So I get irate when I see that message in their posts. Because people mistake it for something quite different since many think that all belief in Jesus is about love and fairness and charity. Their theology is  not benign and has nothing to do with justice or love or caring about other people. Instead, it's a belief that empowers and strengthens racism, misogyny and all manner of greed, bigotry and selfishness, including the current public-health obnoxiousness we're witnessing in them. 

So when they say they care about people who've suffered from Covid, it's purely lip service to keep fans from decamping. Their core "religious" belief is that caring about that is nothing but a distraction from the only truly important thing--embracing the right beliefs about the right Jesus so that you, individually, get saved. That's the hope Jingle and Jer hold. And I find it abhorrent--and I also don't like seeing people fooled about what it really is.

That, as far as I understand -- after a lot of study -- doesn't accurately express what they believe. So I try to caution people against agreeing with them too quickly, before exploring what they actually espouse and its ramifications!

I completely agree.  As a Christian, I do not fear death, but that does not mean that I am careless.  Jinger is saying that she does not care if she dies from Covid because it is God's will.  No need for her to distance herself, or wear a mask because if Jesus says her time is up, then her time is up.  She will be going to heaven because she prays the right prayers to the right Jesus.  To make matters worse, she also believes that all True Believers (TM) need not fear covid.  So what if she hosts a superspreader event and her friend's work colleague's grandmother dies from covid because of Jinger's party.  Grandma is now in heaven from believing in the Right Jesus (TM) or spending eternity in Hell because she was a Catholic.  Maybe Jinger will feel a twinge of guilt that grandma died before being Saved(TM).  

In her mind, it is better for the rest of us heathens to repent and start praying to the Right Jesus (TM).  How dare the government tell the saintly MacArthur to stop holding in person services, and demanding everyone to wear masks.  MacArthur needs to be doing the Lord's Work (TM) saving souls.

I, like many of you, find the post offensive, because this (or any) pandemic has nothing to do with God or God's will. And to say God is working for everyone's good when folks are sick, hungry, jobless, homeless and dying, is cold and heartless. But that's my personal opinion.

The Vuolos certainly are not alone claiming their religion and/or their God is the right religion and/or right God. I would hazard to guess everyone thinks their beliefs are the right beliefs and if they don't, why are they claiming them? This even happens within religions where one person thinks another doesn't believe enough or correctly.

But I also find it hard to believe that many (or any) humans would truly be okay with a long life of suffering because they think they'll get into the right heaven. Humans are wired and motivated by pleasure and rewards, but very few would continually suffer for a reward some 80+ years in the future.

If Jinger did struggle through this pandemic, and then wrote that post, I would still see it as cold and heartless, but I would also see it as a way Jinger was trying to make sense of her personal struggles, using her belief system. But she hasn't struggled, so there really isn't an extra reason to lean on her God (or any God) at this time.

I have been in and out of the group for a time so this may have already been mentioned.  As a Californian I was FURIOUS that all of those relatives came to CA for the birth of the new one.  FFS people. Agree that both have been really altered. Jinger doesn’t look like herself at all. I do appreciate that for once it’s Jinger looking into the camera while Jeremy looks at her rather than the usual Jinger staring adoringly at Jeremy pose. $26 for a book that has 224 pages? The about the author section is pure comedy.
