Never a fan but two performances will stand out, his HowI Met Your Mother narration gave that show the warmth of Ted Mosby. Also, there was an episode of Quantum Leap he starred in as a comic secretly in love with Amy Yasbeck. His desperation to tell her and neurotic fear of losing her was played perfectly.

Is it me or does it seem like celeb deaths seem to come in clusters at the end and beginning of the year?

I've heard it said that more people die in winter than other seasons. Something about the cold. Here in Australia, more of my relatives have died during the middle six months than closer to either end.

That is absolutely true. In the US, New Years Day is the deadliest day of the year and January and December are the deadliest months.

I wasn’t a fan of Full House, but my daughter loved it, so it was on in our house, I just never really paid attention to it.  

However, we all watched AFHV.  And I enjoyed his stand up act.  RIP, and condolences to his family and many friends.

(Someone on another board mentioned Chuck Norris.  Now I fear for him.)

I can't say I was a fan of Mr. Saget's work or personality but his sudden death at age 65 seems a bit startling to say the least and, whatever the cause/s may have been, I truly hope his loved ones will be able to cope with his passing and that he may RIP.

I love the prank on The Jamie Kennedy Experiment where Kennedy pretended to be Saget's disgruntled ex assistant who took an unsuspecting tour group to enter Saget's house when he's away and there were all this stuff all around to make him look loke a depraved weirdo like porn and lots of vodka in the fridge. Saget arrives and yells at Kennedy and threatens to call the police and the poor tourists are just horrified! It was hilarious.

A few months ago, I listened to his podcast where he interviewed Scott Bakula (which is the reason I listened to it) and they talked about this episode. 

It sounds like they are friends too.  Even though I wasn't the biggest Saget fan, he has friendships with people that surprise me and there will be a lot of shocked people in Hollywood.

I definitely did not see the death of Bob Saget coming!

 

We watched Full House back in the day and AFHV.  Many years later, when I started to work in TV and met with some comics who were touring with Saget.  They told me that [at the time] he HATED being associated with goody too shoes role of Danny Tanner and FH.  He said that it made it harder for him to do his stand up routines because he was rather risque.  Perhaps he reconciled it otherwise he wouldn't have appeared in Fuller House, but it's interesting how he felt about the character he's best known for.

65 is indeed too young and I'm curious as to what lead to his death;  perhaps his heart just gave out.

First America's grandma, now America's dad. :( RIP Bob Saget.

I was hoping to catch him on tour. He was only 65, and a very vibrant 65 at that. It's so shocking. My heart goes out to all his loved ones. I can't imagine losing someone like him suddenly like that.

Sheila Kuehl who (under the performing name of Sheila James) had played Zelda Gilroy had this touching tribute to her colleague Dwayne Hickman who died yesterday. I'm glad that they had each other in their lives:

We grew up together on-screen and remained great friends. I'll never forget the warm, strong public support he gave me when I came out at a time when it was tough facing the national news outlets. And the same when I first put my toe in political waters in 1994. 3/4

There are several tributes at the end of this obit which indicate how well liked Mr Saget was.

Saget was among the many celebrities and fans who took to social media to honor White following her death on Dec. 31 at age 99. He took to Instagram that day to discuss the beloved comedy icon’s career as well as tell a story about meeting her. He concluded his heartfelt post by speculating about where White is now, noting that she believed she would reunite with her husband, Allen Ludden, in the afterlife. 

"She always said the love of her life was her husband, Allen Ludden, who she lost in 1981. Well, if things work out by Betty’s design— in the afterlife, they are reunited," Saget wrote. "I don’t know what happens when we die, but if Betty says you get to be with the love of your life, then I happily defer to Betty on this."

Mark Maron, as he typically does when someone whom he has interviewed dies, reposted conversations he had with Bob Saget over the years as a single episode on his WTF podcast feed.  I haven’t gotten through it yet, but what made me come here to post was that Bob and Mark briefly discussed the TV movie that Bob did about his sister’s battle with (and death from) scleroderma.  I remember watching that movie when I was in middle or high school in the 90s:  it starred Dana Delaney.  Bob was very active in the scleroderma foundation and did a lot of good there. 
 

There is an article on TMZ saying that Bob did a podcast this month (January), where he mentioned that he had had COVID-19 recently, and the article also said that the hosts remarked that he did not sound particularly good after he got off the line with them.  It’s obviously too early to know anything and it may never be linked, but since COVID has been known to cause blood clot issues, I wonder if a pulmonary embolism, heart attack or stroke related to his COVID illness is what happened here.  I work with a woman who dealt with blood clots in her lungs for months after she got over COVID (pre-vaccines).

I saw Cat Ballou at the drive in with my family when it came out in 1965.  Hilarious movie and Dwayne Hickman was great as the 'preacher'.  Highly recommend it, terrific cast including Jane Fonda and Lee Marvin.

I was in middle school when that movie aired. It was the year after my Nana died who really loved the show China Beach. I mention that because in the TV movie Bob did called For Hope Dana Delaney played Hope who was based on his sister.  That movie has always stuck with me so much so that when I'd see him being talked about online or appearing on a TV show that it was something that would enter my mind.

I read it once before a long time ago and I thought it was downright sick [in the original negative definition ]and disgusting. Then again, while I appreciate that the late Mr. Saget appears to have been liked and loved by his family and colleagues (and, yes, find it shocking and sad that he died so suddenly), that doesn't mean I liked his brand of so-called humor.

Cause and manner of death have not yet been determined for Bob Saget (the autopsy was just performed yesterday), but Yahoo cites a source saying he died in his sleep, which is consistent with the incident report's account of how the body was found.  Tragic that it happened so young, but hopefully some small measure of comfort to his family if he just went to sleep happy and that was the last thing he ever knew.

From what I've always heard, it's more of an inside joke for comedians, not necessarily intended to be funny for outsiders, although many do find it funny.

My father died in a nursing home at 93 with stage 6 dementia and lots of orthopedic issues.  Mom is 90, with stage 3 dementia, is basically blind with MD & glaucoma, wheelchair bound, and all but deaf.  DH at 76 is chronically ill with multiple ailments.

Yeah, dying in one's sleep at 65, before illness has a chance to take hold is far preferable imho.

I read last night on TMZ that Betty White suffered a stroke a week before she died. I am so sorry that she had to suffer during her last week on Earth (especially during the holidays).

Bob Saget was a notoriously blue comic on stage, so you may want to avoid anything regarding his stand-up.  It's definitely shitty when you get blindsided like that.  On the other hand, off-stage he's been described as having been incredibly kind and caring which could mean that was his real personality.  Maybe that takes some of the sting out of it?

That was the only thing I knew about him prior to his death, since I'd never seen any of the shows/movies he was in - I never watched his stand-up, but I read countless times over the years how his comedy was the antithesis of the Full House character that had become the public's perception of him.

That seems to be the case.  I read through one of those articles compiling celebrity reactions to his death, and so many of those close to him noted he ended every conversation - even via text - with "I love you" and gave great hugs.  And Jodie Sweetin described him as "someone who would also call and profusely apologize for at LEAST 15 minutes if he thought he MAY have perhaps said something he shouldn’t have or thought maybe he took a joke too far".
