I wonder what motivated the one who, escaped and asked the dangerous outside world for help.

She was also smart enough to know that even a service plan free cell phone will work to dial 911, it seems.  The folks at HLN said she’d also taken pictures of her home setup, though grain of salt as no one else has said it.

This is all over the news today: 13 Children Held Captive By Parents

The similarities?  Double digit family (leave the size up to god), home schooled, isolated from mainstream entertainment, uber religious with the kids having to memorize bible passages (and in this case entire books of the bible).   I know a lot of fundies have problems with child abuse and this family is obviously far at the "bad end" of that spectrum but it's a sad day when something like this makes the Duggars look positively progressive by comparison.

I don't think JB and Michelle would have ever abused their kids like this but it does make you wonder what their lives would look like if there was no TV show, no TTH for them to spread out a little, no Jeremy for Jinger because nobody outside of Tontitown knows they exist, no media spotlight on Josh the porn king.  There's no way to know but knowing this family has secrets even with what we see on the show it really does make me wonder what they would have been without it.

There's a picture showing the family "at one of the couple's vow renewals." Complete with expensive wedding gown & tux and matching outfits for all the kids (at least the girls' shoes match). So, yeah, crazier than the Rodriguez family.

it was documented as the news conference that yes, she had taken photos.

I think what the eyewitness perceived as checking in on the kids was Michelle wondering around.  She was asking herself, is that one ours. I’m almost sure it is, but what’s his/her name?

They would be horrified  if a non family member felt up their precious children, that privilege belongs to Volderjosh. Off to the Prayer Closet...

As much as I want to believe Boob was watching Baywatch, I have to question the veracity of this account.  They specifically state they saw the married Duggar kids and their spouses. However, we know the married couples were not on this trip.  I just think the account should be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism.

I imagine that the person saw a ton of Duggars -- kids and adults -- and was making the point that there were a lot of them. I don't expect most people actually know which ones are married and which ones aren't, and what the spouses look like.

Or possibly, even just extra quantities of blonde people throughout the cabin, and assumed all blondes on this particular flight = Duggars.

I thought that was not an actual photo of Jubilee but a pro life propaganda pic they appropriated?  Wasn’t Jubilee dead for awhile before she was expelled from the womb? (Sorry, don’t know if I should say “born” in this instance). I recall Michelle being told she was dead during a checkup and that she had been dead for an amount of time and then Michelle was sent to be induced or something but that wasn’t immediate?  My point being I thought we found out that was not jubilees hand

I think I also remember that Jill had been doing frequent prenatal checks on her mom.  She said she had "heard" a heartbeat the day before they found out about the demise.  The doctor had said the demise had happened several days (a couple of weeks??) before.  I'm not sure what Jill had been hearing, but apparently it wasn't a fetal heartbeat.  Another reason why she has no business in the baby delivery business.

Okay, who's in Michigan who can take one for the team?

Yuck, Duggars in Michigan. It's too far for me to go, but I'm fairly sure I can't convincingly play a Duggar sycophant/bible thumper anyway. They'd ban me from the building.

Did you notice "feauturing"?

How much does a catered dinner cost in "love offering" terms?

$15. Including dinner? That's cheap. If I lived in the area it would be worth going just for the snark. I wonder if they will be speaking about their mating techniques, such as the famous golf course demonstration and hey, hey, hey.

I'm dying to see what kind of catered "dinner" they're offering for $15.

This morning our pastor mentioned that Valentine's Day is ALSO Ash Wednesday. Which is a little weird. But I guess they're ignoring Ash Wednesday. . . because Jesus never put ash on his forehead??

I think Ash Wednesday is only observed by Catholic and Anglican churches and maybe the more ritualistic Luthern churches. I've never been to an evangelical church that observed it.

Our semi-evangelical Methodist church does. And it *does* commemorate the biblical fasting-for-40-days. but yeah, the imposition of ashes and all, that's soooooo heathen. Not that the line 'you are dust and to dust you shall return' (which is often said while you get the ashes dabbed on your forehead) would have any impact on this brainless bunch.

If they're only charging $15 per head (including dinner), they're not going to be able to pay the Duggars much of a fee. Perhaps Jim Bob and Michelle's glory days of raking in big speaking fees are over and they have to take what they can get if they want to stay in the public eye. I doubt if they made any money on their Australian trip; the Gothard organization probably just covered their airfare and hotel/meals.

As someone who regularly plans events like banquets and dinners, a $10-15 per-person catered dinner in my area would be a buffet that includes something like:

Turkey or chicken breast with gravy or some sort of sauce

or

Roast beef slices in mushroom gravy

or

Pasta Florentine (vegetarian option)

vegetables

Starch (potato, pasta or rice)

Rolls and butter

salad with dressing

dessert (usually a giant sheet cake or pudding/mousse or ice cream scoop)

iced tea/coffee/lemonade

 Not bad, but not great.

If the Duggars are pulling an appearance fee, then the dinner will most likely be in the $5-$10 price point.   Not sure what one can get for that aside from cold cuts and potato salad. And either the Church is helping offset their speaker fee or they are expecting a thousand attendees.  Or the Duggars don’t command the fees they once did. Either way, that is one cheap night out.

  • Love 10

The church may have an events budget that they are using to cover J  & M's appearance fee. Or a church member who's a big Dugggar fan may have paid donated to bring them in.  My husband's a music minister,  and at various times over the years he's been pressured into bringing in a Christian musician whom he doesn't love because a rich church member made it happen.

In more ways than one.

I thought public appearances had died out with the southern women's show? There haven't been any more, right? God knows they will never be able to go anywhere where someone is able to ask them questions - Josh will always be question #1 (and 2, 3...) I guess there's not much market for 50-something teenagers to coo about their love in front of people who just ate a Walmart deli $5 dinner tier meal. Maybe they think they'll sell some books?

I don’t know how anyone in their right minds who would make this their date to watch these two simpering idiots brag about how they get to have sex but you don’t.  And to eat the crappy food...

Huh? I assumed it would be fellowshipping with other married couples. It isn't geared towards high school kids is it? Also how would they whether people can have sex?  If I was single and lived in the area, I'd bring a date and hold hands the entire time. Just because! If they asked I could pretend to be married or say "I just met this person, and I think your courtship rules are dumb."

Right? If my partner brought me to see the Duggars as a "date night" or "Valentine's gift," that relationship would be OVER.

If they honestly liked or worse looked up to JB and Michelle, then a relationship would be definitely OVER. But if they understood my love of snarking on them or my concerns over their beliefs,  it would be nice for us to go. Just so we could snark on them later.

I watched the account of a young woman who has escaped from this cult, and she said the Duggars are to them what Tom Cruise is to Scientology. I guess that can be interpreted several different ways, now that I think about it.

I could totally see that.  Cruise gives Scientology some celebrity cred (Yes, people actually look up to celebs...to me, they wipe their behinds and put their pants on one leg at a time just like I do).  After all, if Scientology is good enough for a STAR like Tom Cruise, then I need to be in it too!!!  ? Same with the Duggars.  The leg humpers idolize these dolts.  Because they are so WHOLESOME!!!!  Ugh. None of them are going to escape without some good brainwashing.  Gothardites and Leg Humpers alike.

So, people still hire them after the whole Josh fiasco? They were the ones that covered it up!! Ugh.

HA!  If Mr. Natalie took me to this I would say he was listening!  I would love to go a talk given by these freakish clowns.  Come on, who's with me??!!!  The snark would be endless!
