Is that normal terminology? I would say three quarters of a cup. And cloves would be plural.

I think for those of us in the US it may be. At least for me personally, I've always done my recipes in shorthand, abbreviated phrases. They're a total grammar nightmare, but I find them easier to follow.

Lots of recipes I use read this way.

That's the thing...they read that way, but are not usually spoken that way. I can't get the video to play past where she begins the butter measurement, but the way it's being described here makes me think she is reading the recipe verbatim from a cookbook rather than being familiar with the actual terminology.

Joe looks a little sunburned to me but they both look happy, probably all that alone time.  Enjoy the alone time because in a few short months you'll be blessed with a little one.

@Sew Sumi that was a very aggressive first kiss.

So glad it wasn't a prissy peck. Did they acknowledge this was their first kiss? Looked like they may have practiced. Go, Joe and Kendra!

Will do!  I will DM you tomorrow (or is it ok to post in the prayer closet?).  They are FABULOUS!  They also make a giant batch so I divide it into 3 batches and keep 2 in the freezer.  They work great for ice cream sandwiches.  This may sound weird but I also like to use 1/2 white flour and 1/2 whole wheat.  Its not a health thing, its a texture/taste thing.

I am hoping these two kids got a Kitchenaid mixer for their wedding.  They are expensive and take up counter space but are SOOOOO worth it.  I use mine all the time.  It will help her also in her new helpmeet profession.

True story:  my ex was never convinced of the  need for a Kitchen Aid. It was the first thing I bought myself after the separation.  And prayer closet is fine.

I second the power of KithchenAid mixers! My family has had ours for over ten years and that thing is a tank. It is amazing for baking, especially larger batches. Sadly, I am not sure that these two know how to make the most of a KitchenAid mixer. Moving beyond the can opener or boxed mix is a big step.

Maybe Kendra's mother actually cooks.  And takes care of her own kids.  From what I have seen Kendra is more articulate than the Duggar spawn, so she have had better home schooling.

Or did she go to some Christian school?

She has fewer children , probably helps too .

I find American recipes weird , what's with the cups , spoons and butter sticks ?

I only (finally) got my KitchenAid a couple of years ago after almost 30 years of marriage. I guess I never saw it as much of a necessity, and, to be honest, there are only a couple of recipes I actually use it for. But the way it streamlines just those makes it worthwhile right there! Anything smaller, though I just use a hand blender.

  • Love 3

I have a KA blender. Can't afford or have the space for the blender. I've made triple batches of cookies with a hand mixer and giant bowls, so I think I'll survive. Altough I have to say when I catch all of those colors on QVC, I do get twitchy.

I wonder if they got the pool house? It doesn't look like Benessa have moved based on recent SM posts. But I'm convinced that Jessa is knocked up again, so this may change. In the previews of JoKen's wedding, Jessa is wearing her trusty Waco tee as she curls Jill's hair. She's wearing the same stupid tee in those pics we saw where she's looking a little plump in the face and belly. Get the ISB running!

Who wears white to a wedding? I think the picture is a bit washed out. But I'll take one for the team and watch it again, looking at her when she's seated.

eta: I stand corrected. Mary found the same hideous dress and wore it in stark white. She looked awful. ANYTHING else in her closet would have been a better choice. It's too much for a 75 year old. Hell, it's too much for anyone.

I watched the wedding video this morning in bed. I have no idea why I did this.

Some of my thoughts.;.

What was the Duggar Grandmother thinking when she bought that dress? It's horrible. It's beyond horrible, plus her boobs are so sharp they'd take an eye out of anyone unfortunate to get too close.

Kindra and Joe (why do they call her Kindra? Her name is KEndra, no?), well, they are essentially a couple of teenagers caught up in a High school romance, all pink love hearts, ribbons and sparkly drinks. They are not mature enough for married life. Kindra's voice grates me, that squeaky tone, however, she does seem to be a genuinely nice pleasant girl. Why do their voices go up to such decibels as to only be audible to Dolphins when they greet each other though?

Did like Joe tearing up when she came in, a genuine emotion in any Duggar is a rare event. Kindra's father is a fucking ride (I'm off to the Closet after I finish writing this), but I found it strangely disconcerting at how young he is, escorting his daughter to get wed. The genuine easy affection between them is such a stark contrast to the Duggars though, surely Joseph must have noticed it?

I believe they will have around 5 to 6 children and live quite happily, never questioning too much or be too curious to explore life outside their narrow confines.  Neither of them realises that married life and indeed adult life is more than being excited, giggling and having "dates".

The stupid joke with the ring was typical tacky tasteless Duggar shite. They never learn.

Jackson looks really cute in that picture and I'm a bit unnerved by creepy Santa Claus in the bottom right hand corner.

Between him and the bald, bespectacled elf in the lower left, they look as though they'll be heading back to the North Pole workshop after the nuptials.

A lot of Americans pronounce the short I and short E about the same in certain words.  I don't have a very strong Southern accent, and I'm pretty careful about my speech in general because I'm an English teacher, but a true short E in "pen" just feels wrong to me.

Thanks for the explanation. 'Kindra' makes sense to me because I think Kendra looks like she could be a Duggar sister, so she looks like she could be Joe's 'kin'.

Lulz, I'm reminded of that scene from The Heat where Melissa McCarthy's family asked Sandra Bullock if she was a narc, but due to their Boston accents they pronounced it "knock" and she couldn't understand what they meant. Then after she finally figured it out and pronounces it correctly, they're all like "uh, yeah, duh, we've been saying that the whole time," even though they really weren't, lol.

I don't get it at all. Why would Mary Duggar publicly choose the same awful tin-man dress that Michelle wore even in a different color? I think it's a pale pink, but STILL just as awful Nothing like seeing your GRANDMA in a Madonna 'pointy metallic bullet bra' dress. Looks like Mary has two torpedoes on her chest. Mary is usually the most elegantly dressed for her grand childrens' weddings. Not this time.

I like Kendra's dress on her except I find the neckline a bit too high.  Not saying it had to be plunging, but I think a modest scoop as opposed to a crew neck would have been more attractive.

There is just something about the high neck-cap sleeve combo that bothers me in general- not just on this specific dress.  It reminds me of the breastplate on a suit of armor.

I agree. Kendra has a very square face resting on a very square body. A scoop neck and a drop waist would've elongated her in a flattering way.

She didn't look awful by any means, but some minor adjustments would've enhanced her overall appearance.

Grandma's boobs surely defrauded some old men at the wedding.  Her pointy boobage reminds me of those 1950's bras with the circular stitching that were made to make them pointier.  Like Madonna wore at concerts in the 80's.  Modesty panel required?  Just buy a damned dress with a high neckline, they do exist!  These modifications to emphasize their supposed "holiness and Godliness" just make me sick.

A friend of mine, who lives in the same state (Ohio), but 3 hours south, does this. Pen and pin are the same damn word to her. We do the same job, me in Cleveland, her in Columbus, and I'm constantly having to ask her to spell a last name for me if she needs me to look at a client. I can never guess the spelling since the i's and e's sound all the same and it's a total crap shoot.

It is insane that they think the modifications made this "modest." You can't NOT zero in on the B (•) (•) B S.

Also an Ohioan, same story. Pen and pin sound the same as do ten and tin. My kids make fun of me for it but whatevs. That's just how I talk.

I see......in Brit speak, i and e are clearly defined and different.

Where are they actually honeymooning? Do we know? I was just thinking that taking those two to something really nice, say Europe or outside the US would be a wasted trip. Somehow I don't see either of them truly appreciating the differences, instead they'd giggle and stare and be incredulous. You have to give some credit to Jessa - I think she had at least some appreciation for being abroad.

My grandparents got married in late October 1951, my mother was born in April 1952 ;)

My grandparents got married March 13, 1925; my mother was born Sept. 16, 1925.  I think it bothered her, and I suspect she was teased by her younger sisters.  I had no idea until I started doing genealogy.

Without sharing years  (vain women we are)  :-)  My parents got me in just under the wire; they were married on New Years Eve and I was born in the middle of the following September.  Good thing I wasn't premature!

I completely missed the wedding episodes, DVR didn't pick them up and I had no idea they'd aired until I saw it pop up on You Tube last night.  I just watched the wedding part and a little of the prep and did a FF through a lot of the behind the scenes chatter.  The things that jumped out - Kendra's dress was pretty but she was daring (fundie daring) with the sleeves, they were as short as could be allowed.  When Joe walked his parents down the aisle he gave Michelle a long actual FRONT hug that looked like a real hug for once, oddly he and JB then had a short emotionless side hug.  I didn't mind the guy dropping in with the rings but it really, really showcased Kendra's giggle, first time I truly heard what everyone's been saying about it, high pitched with this little gasping rise at the end - hope Joe sees that as cute because it could get old real fast.

I think "MISS RENEE" missed the boat on Joy and Kendra's wedding gowns. She's supposed to be a professional bridal consultant/designer & tailor, isn't she? I would think she would have SOME CLUE as to what silhouette (learned that term from Randy on SYTTD) would flatter Joy and Kendra. There should be no need for us to comment about the ill fitting gowns those two little girls wore. It was a custom made gown, designed for them, right? I wouldn't travel next door to Miss Renee's bridal shop for my dress. The two brides didn't get what Jinger got.

I TOTALLY have one of these bra's.  A strapless that was my mothers when she was a teen in the 50's.  I have to admit I did wear it to clubs in the 80's (with a men's tuxedo blazer so I wasn't TOO bare) with my big old teased hair like David Coverdale's.

My theory about that hideous dress is it was an auction item for a going out of business bridal shop so they bought out their stock knowing they had eleventy billion weddings coming up.  Cause I mean really, who else is buying that dress?  We will get proof if it shows up in another color at another pasty faced Duggar spawn wedding.

No but he sang Las Isla Bonita to her.  I also heard there was a rousing rendition of Papa Don't Preach.
