Sounds about right. I teach at the college level and without fail, we get several first and second students who read medical dictionaries and lift their papers from there. She is the grandma of some dear friends of ours in Mississippi. It’s super easy and makes the whole house smell amazing when slow cooked! 1 Beef Brisket 1 (4oz.) bottle liquid smoke 1 bottle KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce Place brisket in baking dish. Pour liquid smoke over. Let soak in fridge several hrs. Cover with foil and bake at 200 degrees till done (overnight), or at 350 degrees for several hours. After baking, pour off most of liquid smoke. Slice (if not pre-sliced). Cover with BBQ sauce and serve! 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/4651-jill-derick-the-kids-moving-on/page/843/#findComment-4874120
kalamac November 27, 2018 Share November 27, 2018 I use Celsius (Aussie), and I have never once seen a recipe use decimal points for cooking temperature. And we don't even get that precise with our conversions. If I'm converting an American recipe I found online, I'm not going to try to set my oven to 176, I'm going to round up 180. Why you would slow cook something with only a small amount of liquid smoke is beyond me. You need moisture to keep it tender. 10 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/4651-jill-derick-the-kids-moving-on/page/843/#findComment-4874158

Too true. Even in regular school, way, way back in the day we were taught very basic knowledge of the metric system. We were told by high school we'd learn more because the whole world would be using this system. In high school we were told we would need it for our careers. Here I am years later and I still only have a general idea of metric measurements. Celsius v Fahrenheit - well thank goodness for Google! I doubt the school of the dining room table ever touched on any of it. leighdear November 27, 2018 Share November 27, 2018 (edited) I've made "oven smoked" beef brisket plenty of times, when I didn't have access to a smoker. And liquid smoke is necessary, but not an entire 4 oz. bottle. That's beyond overpowering. My "smoking" liquid includes apple juice, molasses, adobe chilies & sauce and a scant tablespoon of liquid smoke. The only part of that recipe I agree with is to cook low & slow at 200 for about 7 hours. A full 4oz. bottle of liquid smoke would be so unbelievably harsh and bitter. So unless her brisket weighs about 20 pounds, that's way too much and way too dry. And Mississippi grandmas have 3 baking temperatures. A "slow" oven (200), a "regular" oven (350) and a "hot" oven (425). Slow is for recipes like this, regular is for baking something like a ham or cookies and hot is for making biscuits. That's it. No Celsius. Edited November 27, 2018 by leighdear 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/4651-jill-derick-the-kids-moving-on/page/843/#findComment-4876315

One can only hope Jill went the pre made baby food route... 8 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/4651-jill-derick-the-kids-moving-on/page/843/#findComment-4878265
