CalicoKitty July 11, 2022 Share July 11, 2022 So she is asking for a new stroller and the adaptor for car seat, but I did not see any car seat listed. I hope they already bought the car seat (new) and want the stroller that goes with it, and are not planning to use an old car seat on the stroller. Since we have already seen her put an infant seat on an umbrella stroller, and post a video about it, I hope she has learned and is going the safe route this time. 4 Link to comment
Popular Post Zella July 12, 2022 Popular Post Share July 12, 2022 (edited) Jill had her baby, and they named him Frederick Michael. There goes my -el boys' first name trend theory for them. https://www.dillardfamily.com/2022/07/the-newest-member-of-our-family-has-just-arrived/ I think we can also finally rule out them spelling Israel with the kids' names, which I'd never personally subscribed to, but I know it was popular to speculate on. They picked Frederick as a way to honor Derick's dad and Derick, and he was born the day before Samuel (7th). The post also says it was a planned C-section that occurred a little earlier than expected. It also says he's still at the hospital and should be home soon. I don't know enough about babies to know if that is normal. Edited July 12, 2022 by Zella 16 13 Link to comment

Zella July 12, 2022 Share July 12, 2022 I was hoping someone would chime in! The fact he was still in the hospital seemed notable to me, but again, I don't actually know anything about infants or childbirth! 2 Link to comment
Nysha July 12, 2022 Share July 12, 2022 I like the reasoning behind naming him Frederick, though Freddy is probably going to have to name one of his sons Rick and start the cycle over again. 4 Link to comment

galaxygirl76 July 12, 2022 Share July 12, 2022 (edited) Izzy, Sammy, and Freddy is a pretty cute set of nicknames. Ets, Frederick makes me think of Frasier, it's a great name. Edited July 12, 2022 by galaxygirl76 3 12 Link to comment
CalicoKitty July 12, 2022 Share July 12, 2022 (edited) Freddy is on oxygen and is being fed by feeding tube. It may be he hasn't figured out how to swallow and breath at the same time yet, or he may have swallowed meconium. From this one picture, he does not appear to be in distress, and I don't see any IV, so it may just be a suck/swallow problem. He will probably be in NICU for a few days until he can eat and keep is oxygen sat up. They can give meds through the feeding tube if needed. We really can't tell much from this one picture. Lady Whistleup July 12, 2022 Share July 12, 2022 Congrats to them! I'm glad she went to a hospital and she and Freddy are presumably getting good medical care. Freddy is a good name. The Dillards in general have good taste in names. There won't ever be a Spurgeon-level disaster. 22 Link to comment
Salacious Kitty July 12, 2022 Share July 12, 2022 Poor Jill can't catch a break. Didn't Sam also spend some time in the NICU? Then there was the 50 hours of unnecessary labor with Izzy. Now this. Hope Freddy can come home soon. 9 Link to comment
Jeanne222 July 12, 2022 Share July 12, 2022 I noticed he’s on his tummy in this picture. Does that give a clue his condition? They seem to specify keeping babies on their backs. He’s a beautiful little baby. 3 Link to comment

Popular Post CalicoKitty July 12, 2022 Popular Post Share July 12, 2022 (edited) He is being held, but because all babies in the NICU are monitored, we move their position often. Back, side to side, tummy. But there is always someone with them, and they are alarmed. He is safe on his tummy with his mommy. Edited to add: Babies can develop flat head syndrome if left in the same position for long periods of time. It is important that infants and babies are in different positions during the day, and that supervised "tummy time" occurs often. Babies should be placed on their back to sleep, but should be "turned" or held often while someone is with them. Sitting in a car seat for long periods can contribute to flat spots on a baby's head, too. "Back to Sleep" is important, but different positions are important, too, while supervised. Heathen July 12, 2022 Share July 12, 2022 I think the snout makes him look more like Sam. That Duggar snout is strong! Seriously, he's an adorable baby and I'm relieved that Jill opted for medical care instead of a week laboring at home followed by an emergency surgery. Popular Post Notabug July 12, 2022 Popular Post Share July 12, 2022 (edited) 14 hours ago, Salacious Kitty said: Was just coming to post the announcement. I also question the tubes. Maybe @Notabug can help? As you can see, he's wearing a nasal cannula to give supplemental oxygen. The tube in his mouth is an oro-gastric tube, so it goes through the mouth into the stomach. Sometimes it is used intermittently to suction a newborn, expecially if the kid is 'spitty', meaning they swallowed a lot of amniotic fluid and are coughing it up. Babies born by cesarean without labor are particularly prone to this as are premature babies. Oro-gastric tubes can also be used to feed newborns who do not suck well due to prematurity or medical issues. I think the tubes are because Freddie is a little bit premature and also because he is a boy and they tend to have more of this stuff than girl babies. Nothing really alarming about the photo, glad mom is holding him. ETA; The baby was born July 7 and babies born by cesarean usually stay 3-4 days. So, at the time it was posted, he was 4 days old, just at the point when full term C/S babies go home. So, maybe he will need a day or two longer; but he looks pretty good to me. Are three C-sections the maximum, generally speaking? My mom had five, very close together, back in the late 50’s/early 60’s. She probably would have had more but dad got a vasectomy due to mom falling off a chair and needed back surgery. I am also so relieved Jill finally had a planned hospital birth. When she first got married, she probably figured she would be ultra fertile like Michelle and have a baby every year. I was hoping she would have quit after Sam since their little family seemed complete. I wonder how overwhelmed Jill will be this time around. 3 Link to comment
