Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Does Law Bates' social media photos irritate anyone else besides me? He's always posing like a model and he strikes me as vain. What does he do all day, every day? Is he actually making a living as a singer?  Wasn't he the one who had a successful yard work business when he was younger - so successful that his parents were borrowing money from him? Something about his photos get on my nerves.  For example:

I'm shocked that Lawson has turned into such an attractive man.  I remember looking at the Bates' website years ago, and I swear Lawson was dressed up head to toe in cowboy regalia typically seen on 5 y/o boys.  The picture was so painful I still experience second hand embarrassment.  When I think on it, I even imagine he's wearing a holster with toy guns on each hip.  He pinged my gaydar violently.

I feel second hand embarrassment every time Lawson sings.  Am I the only one?

My dad celebrated his 94th birthday this week.  I have the original bills from his birth.  $25.00 for the doctor, and another $25.00 for 10 days in the hospital.  Fifty bucks total.  We keep reminding him you get what you pay for.  I guess a 10-day hospital stay was common in the 1920's.

I'm impressed he was born in a hospital! My dad, who would be 96 were he still alive, certainly wasn't. Heck, when he partially severed his toe as a boy while chopping wood, his mom sewed it back on for him because, as he once told me, "The hospital was only for emergencies."

I don't think the Rod kids are homely, but some are in the awkward stage. (No judgment, my awkward stage was from ~ 8 to 26.) I do think the 80s styling isn't doing them any favors. (I had a mullet as a child and I deeply regret it.) I agree that if they lost the big hair and the heavy makeup they'd be quite attractive, especially with a bit more weight to fill them out. For example, the photo of Nurie lit by the birthday candles with her hair braided was very flattering.

Jill also needs to lose the blackest black eyeliner. I'm not a bottle blonde like Jill and my blonde is much darker than here, but her makeup reminds me why I don't like the heavy, dark eyeliner on both my upper and lower lids. Use a lighter hand, Jill ... or maybe a brown? (I guess I just don't like the look of platinum blonde and dark dark eyeliner.)

One of the little girls looks like she's wearing a toupee.  What does Jill do to their hair?

Of course it was nothing they did because God did it.

Why yes, of course.  And by the way, he's testing them.  Not like if it happened to a godless heathen like me, then it would be all my fault and god's judgement for my many, many sins and shortcomings.  Funny how it always works out that way.

The J Rod picture that bugs me most is the blurry one where she looks like she's bawling. Is that a selfie? Because her right arm is positioned as if it could be.   Who takes a picture of herself under such circumstances?

Jill Rodriguez.

As nutty as JRod is, I have to give her a smidgen of credit for getting real prenatal care, delivering in a hospital and following up with specialists with regards to Janessa's condition. I know, I know, it's what any sane woman would do, but look at the crowd we're talking about here. If this was the Duggars, they'd be praying it away and sticking fake pigtails in the kid's hair.

This. ^^^

I am surprise he knows who John Wayne is.

I doubt it. He also posted a Walt Disney quote when they went to Disney World even though Carlin said they had never watched the Minnie Mouse cartoons.

Oh, Lort that is hilarious!! But I find it a huge long stretch that a boy that is educated would have wanted anything to do with a girl with barely any.

That's too funny about your dad. I have to confess that I was born at home. Umm my mom is from a tiny town, no hospital anywhere around, my dad did not drive and it was just the way things were.

I'm impressed that Jill goes to the hospital too. In as much as she is a fundie loon she does have the good sense to use real medical professionals. No Dr. Jill Non- Medicine Woman for our Stormy Jill!

Just catching up on Jill Rod's new baby.

First, I'm sorry to hear that she didn't get better news.

Second, I work with children like Janessa,,,any time the corpus collosum is damaged, sadly, there are many serious delays in development.

Because her right arm is positioned as if it could be.   Who takes a picture of herself under such circumstances? She's in her hospital bed, clutching this baby who just got this terrible diagnosis, crying her eyes out, and thinks "here, let me grab my phone so I can snap a pic of myself sobbing so I can post it online to show how much I'm SUFFERING about my baby's terrible predicament."

Even if someone else took the pic (why take a pic of Jill crying that way?) Jill still posted it.  It feels like the milking of the tragedy is officially under way ... Actually it began with the "Pamper Mama" party, didn't it? But this is Baby Ruth's first official physical appearance as a living prop in Jill's travelling circus.  And it's PAINFULLY cringeworthy.

Who else is old and has seen Best Friends with Goldie Hawn and Burt Reynolds?  Jill's selfie crying pics reminds me of Burt's characters mom (Audra Lindley) who wanted them to take a pic of her crying to capture the moment of when she found out Goldie/Burt were already married.  This is who Jill always reminds me of.  Not in looks but has to capture every moment down to her grief.  It was funny in a movie, not real life.  If you have't seen it the movie is HILARIOUS!

Natalie, you may not believe this, but I was just thinking about rewatching my DVD of Best Friends!!!  I love Audra Lindley's character in the movie, it's one of my absolute favorite BR movies!  Do you remember Cosmopolitan magazine with Burt as the centerfold?  1972, came out when I was a high school senior.  I still have it ;)

I think your analogy with Jill R is spot on, BTW.  LOL

I'm sorry, but I laugh  every time I go to Jill's page and see that Black Adder type. Not that they would know who Black Adder is. But they should see the Elizabethan one where his religious relatives visit.

Jill?  She is all about the attention for herself.  Posting a selfie holding her possibly brain injured child while in full makeup and looking like she just had a major cry over her circumstances is EXACTLY what I would expect of her.

Yeah, if it weren't for the baby I'd suspect this was a woman who'd been partying all night and/or was posing for a mugshot. And granted, she's been through a lot . . . but most of us curate our social media images a bit more closely.

Oh, that is so sad to look at (Jill). Her lips look bruised or like she bit the lipstick off. And who (besides Kate Middleton) has makeup on  like that right after birth?  When, between all the baby’s tests and diagnoses did she think “I must put on my black eyeliner!” ?

That eyeliner also makes her dark circles look worse.  She really needs to start using brown, gray or navy instead.

Yes, I agree. It’s way too heavy and not flattering.

Oh I’m sure she did her makeup before she went to the hospital. Probably after she made Chimpy a meal to sustain him. It’s industrial strength so even the little sweating she did popping #13 out didn’t budge it.

Yeah, I actually think the photo was described worse than it is.

If you are referring to my post, the picture shown here in the thread that is not the one I was talking about. I can't post pics using my kindle, so you'll have to check out Jill's Facebook to see the blurry selfie of her crying if you want to actually see the picture I was referring to.

I have an adult child who practices crying in front of a mirror so she can capture the best expression to go along with her heartbroken Facebook posts. The blurry crying selfie reminds me of that and while I have sympathy for Jill, her narcissism still bleeds through her posts.

After seeing all those photos of the Rod kids, they look tired, the little ones especially.  They have such bags under their eyes.  Do they stay up to all hours like the Duggars?  Regular routine would help, along with sunshine and ideally decent food (I know we don't know what they eat, but you frequently hear about someone fasting etc)

They all seem an unhealthy shade of yellow to me. If they were newborns, I'd think they had jaundice. Instead, I don't think they get enough nutritious food or sunlight.

Her pic has been closely curated. That's the really sad part.
