Yeah, what was up with that? Maybe Tess is a college freshman and couldn't attend? Annie is probably in middle school or high school. It's been so long since we've seen them that I can't even remember how old they would be here.

Is it 5 years since the divorce? Kate's Alzheimer's has gotten so much worse. 😥

Those kids are obnoxious spoiled brats.  Always have been, always will be.

It seems that tv writers believe kids and teens should be written that way on tv shows.  It’s very common.  I know quite a few, polite and sensitive children.  For me it’s disrespectful to show so many child characters who aren’t that way.

Less than 5. Because this wedding is 5 years after Kate and Toby returned from San Fransisco. So, 16 months later they filed. Big 3 are 46 at the MeanJerk wedding

Mandy Moore does know how to play piano. I think the hesitation was Rebecca, not Mandy.

Only reason I hope wedding singer ends up with Kevin is because she's midsize and us girls deserve hunks too! Also, Katie is also just adorable as a human.

I said that about Josh Malina in Kevin's episode from last year but...

Honestly, my guess is it is too far in the future to use the current actresses and not far enough in the future to use the future actresses and they chose not to cast three new girls for one episode.  However, I would have mentioned where they were.

This episode reminded me why I used to love this show.

The only false move was the “who will he choose?” ending with Kevin. I got an instant flashback to the Friends season-ending cliffhanger of Whose room did Ross enter, Rachel or Bald Girl? At least we don’t have to wait 4 months to find out, not that I even really care.

I cringed when Philip interjected an opinion about Rebecca performing, because we all know how that family feels about outsider interference. I guess he’ll learn where his place is, soon enough.

I need a Beth and Madison spinoff RIGHT NOW.

lol, I forgot all about him...

At this point, who Kevin ends up is just a matter of mild curiosity for me. I have no investment in any of the options we've been teased with so far. It could be any one of them or someone we've yet to meet and I doubt I'll feel much one way or the other.

Randall is the sibling who lives on the other side of the country, and shows up one week a year to criticize how everyone else is performing caretaking duties for his mother.  (I realize that may not be the actual case, but that is how he felt to me during the episode.)  I couldn't believe he nosed around Miguel's medications and then felt the need to comment to Miguel about his tremor.

I didn't really care who Kevin slept with.  It felt more like a storyline that existed because the writers realized Beth and Madison had nothing to do during the episode.

I dont think Wedding singers are supposed to be the best...

A wedding singer is a professional singer.  Unlike in the movies or tv, they are supposed to be pretty good.

While I thought Rebecca's haircut made her look older, I still thought it was a cute haircut.  I also hope 1980's Rebecca didn't honestly spend her time watching He Man along with the kids.  Get a hobby, girl!

Is it because we know next to nothing about Phillip or was he acting incredibly cavalier about his soon-to-be-wife's dementia-addled mother? He was the only one of them to advocate for Rebecca to perform and then he told Kate that he had a backup plan of a cheesy Titanic song in case things went south. It came across like he had no sense of how bad this had the potential to be for all the Pearsons and Rebecca especially.

Mandy/Rebecca’s song is all I’ve seen of the ep so far, and I’m a mess.  Not sure how the cast got through it without blubbing.  And, to correct an earlier poster, Philip had tears in his eyes, too.

Christ! Kevin’s and Randall’s reax put me away!  Glad that Rebecca got to deliver a musical goodbye to her nearest & dearest.

Was the song Rebecca sang the actual theme song to This is Us? It was the performance I didn't know I needed tonight.

I cried at all the Pearsons and Miguel realizing this would probably be Rebecca's last best moment.

And on a cynical note, way to go Big Three for NOT letting Rebecca's illness take over your life. The entire event was arranged around Rebecca.

I lost my own mother to Alzheimer's a year ago so all of this feels very raw to me.

+1 on them not casting Randall and Beth's daughters in attendance. Plus, poor Beth had to play detective with Madison--better it be Beth and Nicky! And Sen. Randall trashes up the day snooping around his mother's meds (I think that's what he was doing when he stumbled across Miguel's pills), making the long depressing speech and completely missing the boat on Miguel's needs. Oh, writers.

I maintain that Kate and Phillip have zero chemistry, walking, talking, kissing, nowhere. Wondering if they dropped an anvil having Phillip comment on the healing power of music at the same time they're linking Kevin and a wedding singer? I'm also past the point of caring who he ends up with--I've already seen him looking healthy, with his son, still taking care of the family. No doubt he paid for that wedding.

Remembering how Catherine O'Hara finally got her Emmy for season 6, I'm feeling optimistic for Mandy.

Show was always good at making me cry. Not this time. Rebecca and Kate as a young girl at the piano? Yes. Putting your mother in that position at this time? With Phillip's BIG support? Just no.

Also, sorry, I didn't like porn staches in the 70s, I'm never going to like them. Even on Milo.

The family photo when the photographers said Pearsons was missing Kate's kids and Randall's. He said he brought the girls as his security detail, so where were they for the family photo? Jack and Hailey were where? Kevin's kids are in the photo and Madison with her husband? They're not Pearsons only the twins.

I loved Beth and Madison, the show dropped the ball not having them be sisters-in-law and just marrying Kevin and Madison. Instead of this fake out of who was he with last night and married to in the future.

I think Phillip seems to fit more with Randall/Kevin than Toby for some odd reason.

The song comes from the end credits music. Also, Rebecca sang a version of this to the kids. And the tune comes up again when Adult Randall plays the piano about farm crops.

1. Wedding Detectives Madison & Beth are the spinoff I need
2. Was Rebecca singing an extended version of the theme?
3. At this point I hope we never learn Philip's last name, so it can forever be Mean Jerk
4. Kevin definitely did not sleep with the wedding singer - those clothes looked like they were intended for someone skinnier
5. 12 hour wedding sounds like hell. If it is gonna be 12 hours. the last three quarters better be food, having fun, and dancing
6. I wonder how many crew cameos (if any) we had in the wedding/reception?
7. I was thinking Miguel was taking the blood pressure meals as anxiety meds, since I would certainly get anxiety in his shoes.
8. I wish Randall had referenced the power of Pearson Speeches during his funeral-worthy toast.

Didn’t Kevin already have a stand alone episode? Do we really need another one? There are only 5 episodes left and I want to see everyone.

Also, Randall is a wet blanket and so annoying. Madison and Beth definitely need a show after this ends. They had great chemistry and were hysterical. Of course, it’s because they were playing the characters but I’m not sure if it would work otherwise. One can dream though.

Having Kevin’s twins in the Pearson family photo is what made the absence of all the other kids so glaring. I’m assuming they didn’t have Randall’s kids in the episode because of aging issues. The current actresses look too young, and the deathbed versions look too old. I’m guessing not having Jack and Hailey there for the photo had something to do with the availability of the kid actors in terms of limited working hours? So, in that case, Nicky and Franny shouldn’t have been there either. We could have just been witnessing the adults only part of the photo shoot, and we wouldn’t be distracted by why some kids were there and others weren’t.

Several posters have already remarked on Randall's depressing toast, but how about Kate's depressing vows? "You hated me the first time we met and I hated you too. This was not a love at first sight." Even with the time she had to prepare, she still found only miserable things to say. And I thought Randall's comment about Philip bringing out Kate's smile "after a long time" was an unnecessary dig at Toby.

I'm sure the writers thought they were being clever throwing in the Scottish guy giving an incomprehensible toast, but that was a terrible cliche. I lived in Scotland for several years, and every single Scottish person I've met is able to tone down their accent when they're in a group that includes non-Scottish people. Also, Philip's accent is very posh southern English, so it doesn't make sense for him to have a father or older brother who speaks like that.

I noticed that too, but I think you're giving the prop department too much credit. Their brief was probably just "pink lacy bra" and not "pink lacy bra that fits the actress who plays the woman with whom Kevin will end up." FWIW, I don't think the woman is Sophie, but I did find it strange that Sophie's husband didn't come to the wedding after coming to the engagement party.

Miguel is already in his 80s by the time of the wedding. He was born in 1945 and the wedding is supposed to be in 2026, I think. So definitely nothing unusual about him taking blood pressure meds. If Beth hadn't already been part of the "who did Kevin sleep with" investigation team, Miguel should have taken her with him to the wine tasting. We know that she likes wine just as much as Randall does, but she also knows how to read a room and would have let Miguel have fun for a few hours without asking questions.

Plus Beth could have even stashed some edibles in her handbag just in case the opportunity arose.  Beth was too cute with Madison in this episode.  I'm almost always Team Beth.

Is the drinking Scotman supposed to be Phillip's father?  Major fail on writers' part to miss the differences between England and Scotland, for starters.

Agree that it's totally plausible if not very likely that Miguel at his age would be on blood pressure medication.  I just love Miguel even more after this episode and my heart breaks for him.

Randall’s speech was way too long but that’s very on brand for him.

Depressing, a real buzz kill, and not about anything to do with the love of Kate and Phillip, their courtship, anything about him and just that Kate has an infectious smile (news to me).  We know nothing new about the happy newlyweds.

Rebecca singing that depressing song while everyone held their breath was just stupid. And I loathe when a performer can't play the instrument and they fake that they're playing it.

Mandy can play the piano.  Trust me, your hands are a dead giveaway about your age, and showing an older woman's hands made sense.

What didn't make sense was how strong and perfect Rebecca's voice was.  I'm nowhere near the age she's supposed to be, and I can't belt like I used to, in perfect health.

Good Lord, that was the most depressing wedding on TV since the Red Wedding.  Randall's kids were right to stay far, far away.  The good thing though, given the last minute surprises on this show, is that I was waiting for Miguel to have a stroke at the reception.  Whew.  Didn't happen.  Don't kill off Miguel, show!

I do not care which of the women Kevin was sleeping with.  I bet it turns out it was none of them.

Mandy did a great job.  Emmy reel.

I know that was weird. I am just guessing that  by that age they where busy with college or work and couldn't get away. They should have acknowledged that because I spent the whole reception looking for them. But maybe that is why they had a bid engagement party, they knew a lot of people maybe couldn't make the wedding. They couldn't even count on Rebecca being there, But maybe they planned the wedding around when overseas guests could attend???  IDK , I don't like the the future story telling because timelines can't make sense and I can't believe Kevin has gone 5 years and not found someone.  Rebecca singing was good though

Re: Randall and Beth’s kids - if this is in the summer, maybe they have jobs they can’t get out of.  Annie might not be old enough to have any kind of “real” summer job so if she’s not working she might be at a camp as a camper.

Miguel and Kevin broke my heart seeing how Rebecca had forgotten she was married to Miguel and thinking that Kevin was Jack.  Kevin's face showing so many emotions between being heartbroken about his mom and being physically and emotionally exhausted. Then the scene where "Jack" walked into the room was fantastic and then when Nicky said "kid" to Kevin made me so sad.
I know so many people love Randall, but last night I was hating Randall because Miguel needed some down time but Randall was only wanting to talk about Rebecca because he hadn't been around to see how she was deteriorating. There are times when you need some time to have a "regular" life and Randall didn't see that.  I hope Miguel doesn't die before Rebecca, but it looks like he probably will. It did make me happy that Miguel walked Kate down the aisle. After all the issues the "kids" have had with Miguel, having him walk her down the aisle meant a lot to me.
Mandy Moore has been knocking it out of the park I think. I hope when the Emmy nominations are announced, she is nominated.
And ending on a light-hearted moment, I loved Beth and Madison trying to figure out who Kevin slept with. Maybe that wasn't appropriate for the storyline, but it made me laugh.  Who knew that Beth and Madison had friendship chemistry?
And one other moment that made me laugh - was when Philip said if Rebecca wasn't able to perform the song, he and the band would sing "My Heart Will Go On."

There were glimpses of women in hats/fascinators that I assumed were supposed to be his British relatives because - hats.  Same with random Scottish guy. I think the writers watched Three Weddings and a Funeral and assumed the hats and loud Scottish guy are representative of Brits at weddings.

Well, that happened. I caught myself wondering why you'd have a big wedding shindig when your mother suffers from fast progressing Alzheimer's and any deviation from her routine is stressful for her. Why not have a little intimate celebration near her home or at her home and the big reception afterwards without her? Then I remembered: Pearsons don't do little! Pearsons also don't give short speeches!

  • The scenes with Jack/Kevin were heartbreaking.
  • Randall acting with the tact of a snow plough on a rampage was in character. Glad Miguel finally exploded and let him have it.
  • I may have burst into laughter about Kate's 'infectious smile' - glad I was not the only one.  Amid all the discussions about Kate last week I asked myself what I remember about her character from all the years the show is on, and it's mostly her angry and glowering face.
  • The little Big Three were little Big D****.  I don't care about them being kids, if you don't know decency at that age you won't know it as an adult. I hated Rebecca just standing there like a wilting lettuce.
  • As much as I enjoyed Beth and Madison as giggling Lady Detectives that plot felt like an episode of HIMYM.
  • Why was the drunk Scotsman there? Phil called himself an Englishman in this very episode so that can't be his father (or Phil has some issues). Random stereotype alert?
  • Nicky and his lady were great.

I think Deja would be 22, Tess would be 17 or 18, and Annie would be maybe 13 or 14. I agree that they probably just didn’t want to cast older actors for one episode, although I think the only one they’d have to do that for is Annie. Different clothes and makeup could age Deja and Tess.

Where is this wedding supposed to be? Central coast? Napa/Sonoma area? And more importantly...WHY? A destination wedding makes no sense for a number of reasons, not the least of which is Rebecca's illness. They had to arrange an unusual schedule for her, so why also have it take place in unfamiliar surroundings?

Miguel definitely did not look over 80.

Is he supposed to be? I thought he and Rebecca were around the same age, so he’d be 75-ish. No? (Also I can buy that he’d age slowly.)

And I agree that the big TWELVE-HOUR destination wedding with Rebecca performing would be harder on her, not easier. I don’t want to go to a twelve-hour wedding and I’m relatively young and healthy. If they were that concerned they’d have had a small thing close to home earlier and shorter so she could take her leave if she felt unwell.

Rebecca lashing out at Randall like “why would you say that about Jack?” was really well done. I’ve seen people with dementia do that when people try to correct their version of events.

Yes my mother (and I) cared for her aging mother, 24/7 in our home, for her final 15 years, and my aunt and cousins would come once a year and act like visiting royals.

Speaking of which, I was so mad at Princess Diana when she ruined the timeless look of her wedding, (golden carriage, teams of matched horses,  massive gown) with that soccer mom cut.  At least Mandy Moore looked prettier with it.

I felt like this whole episode was a trailer for, "Who does Kevin choose?" and I don't really care.
