It struck me today when Governor Pritzker closed bars and restaurants (except for carryout) in my state, that I wasn't the least bit shocked.  We're getting used to this unprecedented type of news. I'm all for social distancing and closing whatever we have to in order to save lives. I really hope and pray that all of these efforts keep the virus from compounding the way it most certainly would without these precautions.  Every day we learn more.  Mr. BetyBee and I are planning to stay home all week. We do go for walks around the neighborhood.

My company has still not issued a work from home order but my boss has. Our department handles all communications for our company (and we're running 24/7 trying to keep up right now) so if one of us gets sick, we're screwed. So after tomorrow, I'm working from home. It should be a fun week, PMS, coronavirus, and social distancing, woohoo!!

I really have no clue why we are delaying. The schools have closed, and usually we close when they do. My understanding is our system director wants to close, but the county and/or library board has to sign off on it. I'm hoping they make that decision tomorrow, and we close.

I am not an infectious disease specialist, but I don't think it is necessary for you to drive outside of your area to get the signatures.  I presume you need a notary?  If so, I would go wherever you would usually go, but be there right when the place/bank opens in the morning.  Have everything in order and ready to go when you get there so you don't have to spend any extra time searching through the pages .  Bring your own pen, keep it with you and use it to sign your parts of the paperwork.  The notary can find their own pen. Bring hand sanitizer and use it as soon as you leave or, better yet, stop in the rest room and lather up with soap and water.  The notary should be perfectly capable of watching you sign your parts from 3 feet away and then you step back and do the same.  Bring a clean folder or envelope with you in a tote or briefcase and slip the paperwork in there as soon as you're done.  If the things need mailed or faxed or scanned, you could certainly ask the notary to do it for you before you leave so you don't have to handle it again.  Or, take it all home, wait about 10 days and then you can handle it all you want.

All of this is if you want to be super duper extra careful.  Not everyone would feel the need to do all this, but everyone should use their own pen, keep 3 feet between you and others and wash your hands ASAP afterwards.  If there is someone you've worked with before, you could always call and see if there is some way he/she could come to you if you are particularly at risk.

Just because the next county doesn't have any positive tests yet does not mean there are no cases there or that it is any safer for you.  Go to places you're familiar with and work with people you know as much as possible.

I actually was recently in Italy--I live in the U.S.--but that was back in mid-January so I've been cleared by medical staff as being well past the incubation period.

Remember the virus can live on surfaces anywhere from a few minutes to more than a week.  So, anything that is delivered, including your mail, containers and bags from food deliveries, and paperwork and supplies left by the nurse are potentially contaminated.  Use hand sanitizer after handling those things.  

You are not at risk for having been in the hospital at the same time as the Corona virus patient.  Even if you were, the incubation period is two weeks, which would be up in a couple of days.

So, even though you don't have the same risks as someone who is going out and interacting with the general public, you still need to be a bit careful and nobody would fault you for washing your hands or wiping down the countertops with antibacterial wipes more often than usual.  I live alone, and, even this weekend where I have been home except for a couple hours spent at the grocery store and church and my only visitor has been my sister; I've taken to using Clorox wipes on the ktichen counter twice a day along with washing my hands more diligently and more often.

I still added two more huge packs to my stash.

A week and a half ago, we went to Home Depot and bought 6 - 6 gallon food safe buckets. Then we went to WinCo which sells food in 25 lb bags.  We bought one bag of pinto beans, one of red beans, one of split peas, one of brown rice, one of white rice, and one of rolled oats.

We also bought many cans of tuna, lots of pasta and canned goods, bleach, white vinegar (there haven't been Clorox disinfectant wipes and purell in two weeks). We will make do with lots of soap and water, bleach and vinegar for disinfecting.

We also bought lots of spices and dehydrated onions and garlic to season all those beans!

This is for three adults.  We live 30 minutes from Kirkland, Washington

Schools and colleges are all closed and all King County/Seattle libraries.

Our governor just did the same .  No restaurants, bars, gyms, schools, colleges, libraries, dance halls.  Washington now has 769 confirmed cases and 42 deaths.

I keep waiting for the emails from the small businesses I go to saying they are shutting down until things cool off. 

I know social distancing and all that but it is going to be mighty lonely without them. I'm "allowed" into the office as long as no one else is there so I'm going to try and keep that routine going.

It's a bit bittersweet realizing I won't see the Lad for a while either.

The scariest part to me is that my parents are far away. I am already looking into car rentals if flights are hard to come by. I couldn't live with myself if they got severely ill and I wasn't there.

My daughter is a librarian just across the border from here in Rhode Island. They don't want to close, but are having a staff day to work it out today, so I am going to go watch my granddaughter as her daycare is closed. Hopefully the library will decide to close so my daughter won't have to call out of work I don't mind watching my granddaughter in the interim, but I know she won't want me to do it everyday. This is going to be really rough on people whose workplaces will have to stay open if they have school or daycare-aged kids. I can't imagine. 

We'll be self-isolating as much as possible. but as of right now, my daughter and son-in-law's jobs are still requiring them to be there, so I'll be available whenever they need me to watch her. If everyone follows protocol insofar as hand-washing, etc, I guess we should be OK.

My daughter is now looking into still  getting married on the original date the beginning of April, but moving the reception to the end of May. Their honeymoon was to be the middle of May, but it involves travel, and a music festival in Florida. I feel really awful for them.

It suddenly hit me during the night that if Amazon is late with my delivery next week, I will not have cat food.  This would not be good.  So I got up this morning and was at the market just as they opened at 6:00AM (in the dark, in the rain).  There were only about 6 shoppers the whole time I was there.  I bought some cat food--not what they usually eat, but cat food.  I didn't need too much for home as I am pretty well stocked, but I did pick up some cans of soup, cheese, ice cream, and wine.  There was very little meat, almost no eggs, and not much pasta left on the shelves. The man checking out ahead of me was asking about toilet paper, and the checker said it is hard to keep stocked.

I did order cat food from Chewy, too, but they said their deliveries were taking longer than usual and they couldn't say when it would come.  Amazon orders are taking longer.  If I end up with too much cat food I will donate it to the shelter.  I was going to order groceries from Walmart, but they did not have any delivery slots available.  I checked Safeway (Albertsons), and there were no delivery dates available for over a week.

I am going to stay home and start organizing closets and drawers.  We'll see how far I get.

That has to be disappointing.  At least they are making it work.  I hope it does, so that at least their honeymoon can happen. 

  I'm trying to stay positive about plans and events.  I have a wedding invitation for mid May.  The bride is a good friend. She has said to use our own judgment as to whether we should attend.  I'm waiting to see how things go. It's at a private home, outside on the beach in NC.  Probably 50 people would be in attendance. I would love to attend, but,  I may just sent a nice gift.

  My sister, works in a men's...um..not a homeless shelter..but a Christian help center for recovering addicts who were homeless (I'm blanking on the right terminology for the place.) They give them a place to live, and in-house (Christian) counseling as long as they stay sober. My sister did all the intake for all the men, gave them their monthly allowances, etc.

   The CEO of that company just called her into his office, and today she was MADE to go home, until further notice (with pay!) because he's worried about her due to her "advanced" age. (75yo)

This is a crazy idea, but how about the government trains select restaurants/cafes how to do serious hygiene, and pays restaurants, cafes etc to cook/prepare heavily subsidized meals that would be delivered hygienically to urban & suburban households. It would help keep these places in business, and it would stop these supermarket shortages. And it would remind people on a daily basis that civilisation has not ended (except on Mondays).

I think toilet paper and soap will end up requiring ration tickets or something.

I'm now working from home for the foreseeable future, which should be interesting. I left work with one of my giant monitors, my laptop, and a docking station, and totally left behind my mouse and keyboard. Ugh. I may have to go in Wednesday afternoon for a meeting and I'm swiping what's left at my desk. It's not technically kosher to take anything but your laptop home, but my boss okayed it since one of our comms programs is virtually impossible to use on a tiny laptop screen. I just walked out of my building acting like I owned all of the equipment I was toting, lol.

I know exactly what you mean. I am normally completely happy to stay home and read and cook and play with cats but now we're under a shelter-in-place order the only thing I want to do is go out to lunch. 

Dad told me they enforced social distancing at his care facility at meals today. Only two people are allowed per table and they have to sit 6 feet away. They don't have enough space for everyone to eat together like that so I'm not sure what they'll do. He said the tables were all too crowded before, anyway, and he's happy for some personal space. At least he's not grumpy. Yet.

Nah.  Near my home are two different large paper mills, which produce either Charmin and Bounty or Scott and Northern products.  They are running at full capacity. Ready to serve our needs.  Maybe we should build a wall around WI!  And protect our cheese, canned veggies and frozen pizza as well from marauding Aussies.  🤔

I'm worried about my son, still in Pensacola. He finished his training for air traffic control in the Marine flight school down there, and was slated to go to a new command in Yuma, Arizona, but due to a couple of things going on, Corona virus among them, he is stuck there for probably the foreseeable future - they are trying to rearrange things all over the place, and he won't be able to take the break he was hoping for to visit us before transferring. But even worse, he says that practically his whole command has been coming down with swine flu, and as an unrelated virus, I'm afraid that Corona could give them all a double-whammy! It sounds rather frightening...

Any medical folk here who have ideas on how something like this could play out?

It’s really not a crazy idea for the government to pay people or businesses for honest work in a time of crisis. We camp a lot here in Florida and many of the parks have trails and structures that were built in the 30s by the Civilian Conservation Corps that employed young men. They were paid plus a certain amount was sent back to their families. I think your idea is a better idea than Romney’s $1000 per adult that would be nice, for sure, but I still have a job and don’t need it now. There are so many more people that will need it when businesses go under and many of them would be happy to have a job that pays them. 
I think the bureaucracy from both sides of the aisle has destroyed any ability of government to be nimble or smart.

I don’t know what to expect except that this will be life altering for the world and I will be eternally grateful if my family and loved ones survive. What does lift my spirits is how so many states have no deaths. This afternoon WV had ZERO cases. Imagine that. 
 

Tomorrow I must go to my office for a few minutes to attend to a matter that I can’t do remotely. I can’t avoid it. I am taking huge measures to provide safety for my client and myself. I hate to wear a mask, but, I am.  I’m not touching anything that hasn’t been bleached. A quick stop at the bank and then I’m headed home for the next foreseeable future.

Library I work for part-time is closing to the public, as of tomorrow morning, though we are going to try to provide curbside service for check out as well as answering reference questions and the like via phone and email. All the county offices in my area are following suit of staying open but not open to the public, so people don't lose paychecks but risk is minimized. We're not one of the counties that has had a case yet, though we've had at least 1 negative test result.

Oh I meant to add. I went shopping for my grandmother today before work. She asked me to pick up some food and other essentials, plus toilet paper. I have never been so preemptively embarrassed about buying TP since I was an awkward teenager who was assigned shopping duties. LOL

Our TP aisle at Wal-Mart was completely wiped out ;), but I saw some woman with Angel Soft in her cart so I was like, "There's some in here somewhere!" In any event, I finally found the only TP in the store. The store had an employee standing next to a pallet, and he'd give you a pack. It seemed to be working pretty well!

My stepmom put me in charge of the grocery shopping when I was about 15--which really was a good idea--but part of it was keeping track of coupons and price matches. And almost every week, we either had a coupon or price match for toilet paper, and it was like the universe was conspiring against me to not just be seen publicly buying toilet paper but also to draw attention to me buying the toilet paper because I had to interact with the cashier about it! Like, I just died inside every time. I thought I'd overcome that with adulthood. 😉 

In retrospect, maybe this is why I am such a big fan of self-checkout. LOL

Week 2 working from home, and I’m already tired of it! I’m sure we will be at home at least through the end of the month, and I predict even longer. Today I found out the person who sits diagonal from me at work is a confirmed case, but is now recovered. There is a low cubicle wall between us, and she was only in the office one day a couple of weeks ago (we had very limited contact) so I am now outside the quarantine window. Someone else emailed me to let me know that he had been exposed 2 weeks ago and although he was fine he was alerting people he had been in contact with for an extended period. He called a local hospital for advice and was told that since he was not ill and it had been (just) more than 14 days that he did not need to be tested and probably was not infected. I’m guessing that 3rd times a charm for me, since I have been lucky so far. I’m continuing to stay home except for 2 unavoidable grocery/pet food trips (I’m now set for at least a month) I’m fine, if a little bored.

Im fine. Just self quarantining. Today schools closed. I met with students to show them the online learning website. But a student of mine had very suspicious symptoms 2 weeks ago (fever, coughing, liquid in her lungs, negative flu test) and was sick for days but still in school. I have elderly parents so I’m self quarantining for a few days before I go home to visit them. Thanks fir asking.

Son of Barb's smaller office finally made decision for everyone to work from home this morning so he just left to get his things. (They had left it up to the workers if they wanted to work from home or not.) Even though he's younger & healthy, I was still worried about him catching the Corona virus because he gets hit hard when he gets just  a cold. He spent most of his Christmas vacation out of commission with a cold.  So now he can stay put & help break the chain of the virus especially around high risk me even though we've been keeping 6 feet & more distance from one another. 

@Jynnan tonnix, that is a double whammy for your son & hope things work out OK for him and everyone in his unit.  I was worried about something similar happening to me if I had kept my wound center appointments later this week.  I was worried about being exposed to other viruses & germs in addition to the Corona virus since the wound center is located inside our local hospital.  

I feel not as anxious as I was since my home nurse advised me  what I need to do in case I think I have the Corona Virus since I am a high, high risk person. I try to stay inside & away from people in the winter anyway so this isn't much different for me.

So I'm off to work on my jigsaw puzzle. Luckily I have plenty of them to keep me busy.
