Popular Post Gummo March 15, 2019 Popular Post Share March 15, 2019 Ah, now THAT's Project Runway! Makes me realize just how cheap and threadbare* the Lifetime version has been. Even without Tim & Heidi, it FELT like PR and that was a big relief. I think Christian will be a great mentor, he's done this before and he's actually out there, designing very public and celebrated garments. Nina is the perfect touchstone to connect us to the show's past. In fact, everything about the premiere episode seemed designed to say to us, look, we get it, we're restoring class to the show, from the name brand hair & accessory sponsors to the quarter-mil prize money to the 2 day challenge. And it worked! I like that the contestants run the gamut from hopeful amateurs to seasoned professionals, but who are we kidding, the amateurs have little chance. I also like that they run the age gamut and that the models will be varied in size and shape. Basically, they seem to have scoured social media for fan criticism before this reboot and it shows. Not much to say about the individual designers yet, except that Raggedy Ann is going to get tiresome, and I thought Kovid would be annoying but I really like him. Renee is amazing. Frankie won't last but booting Cavanaugh was the right choice -- she made a basic black dress. Period. It didn't fit especially well and had zero ideas. It was a choice between no ideas and no skills, and no skills won out -- for now. 45 Link to comment
LennieBriscoe March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 Frankie was the absolute worst. First, she decided to make the most minimal attire possible. Secondly, she made a rookie sewing mistake with the middle-seam ("We don't want to see the toes of the camel!") and had to rip and re-do. THEN she didn't calculate correctly her model's measurements---and had to rip and re-do. Yet even after that her model's butt hung out. I don't give two Tim Gunns about her losing her boyfriend, her dog, or her domicile---Frankie needed to go. I like the Girl and Her Amazing Technicolor Eyeglasses! Maybe she's a young Iris Apfel! Christian Siriano can do no wrong in my eyes. I like hearing critiques from not only a successful designer, but one who competed on PR. As for Karlie Kloss: She was afterwards on "Watch What Happens Live" and passed a "test" of sorts in identifying the designers of many of her runway outfits. She, too, has an interesting and knowledgeable perspective on designs. I didn't care for the opening gambit of a selective showing of some contestants' designs because there was no sense of their ouevre, so what was the point? The winning design was fabulous, darling [tm Isaac Mizrahi]. 8 Link to comment
pasdetrois March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 Cautiously optimistic. Not impressed with the contestants' skills, but I loved the top two designs for the start - probably executed on very little sleep and fatigue from the travel and adjustment. Hill's was stunning. I hate the sob stories. One preview last week showed some gorgeous design and I hope we get that - I don't want drama TV, and I want design TV. I still mourn the first season's fashion. 13 Link to comment

They showed one of each designers’ looks & there were some interesting ones. There are several designers over 50, which I am here for. But there’s also a woman who annoyed me in record time. She made (IMO) an ugly dress with those sequins that change colors that my 11-year-old used to love (when she was like 9). & they did an intro to Christian & the workroom in which she came across as pompous & judgey. She spells her name “Cavenaugh” or some such nonsense & I pre hate her, hard. Looks like your pre-hate was well founded! Buh-bye, you pinched little sourpuss. Frankie may be dramatic, tearful, and a big ebullient personality, but she's clearly kind, warm and a nice person. Everyone gathered round to help her and lift her up, while bitch face Cavanaugh (obviously not at her best since she had to sleep on a twin bed, gawd) had to get her model to help her. 13 hours ago, Sew Sumi said: They're doing a competing show for Netflix or Prime. Bonus...She looks like a real life human Mavis from Hotel Transylvania! Cavanaugh was a good choice go. However, Frankie had better Step. It. Up! if she wants to be here. I usually don’t have any room in my teeny tiny heart for sob stories, but damn if Frankie’s didn’t get a rise outta me. I would love to find that ex BF of hers and kick his ass. What an asshole to do that to someone you’ ve dated and lived with for NINE years! So far, I am liking this Bravo version, Karli and Christian and the judges. Or maybe I’m just so over the sadness of Alyssa Milano’s hair and outfits over on Lifetime. And the almost 2 year old dragged out, stale “All Stars” season. Oh come on, you know they love a quirky girl! I predict she's out by episode five. The only way she lasts longer is if she Wendy Peppers her way through--always in the bottom, but always one person worse. I felt terrible for Frankie, I hope her ex is curling into a ball with embarrassment and remorse. I don't thinks she'll last long but maybe she'll surprise us all. Some people take a little longer to find their feet, especially the ones who are over ambitious in the first challenge. I was all for keeping her over that snotty supercilious Cavanaugh. As the judges said, at least she had an idea. 11 hours ago, Kitty Redstone said: I like all the new judges and Christian as mentor. I'm especially happy they got two days to design and sew. Hopefully all the challenges going forward will be the same. One day challenges are the worst. Seeing everyone together "at home" was also something I've missed. The large workroom and sewing room were also great. Everything just looks more thoughtful and with higher production values than any of the Lifetime seasons ever had. Having an initial runway with the designers non-competition looks was a wonderful idea. I'm fine with Frankie staying. The look was hideous but at least she had an idea. Kavanaugh's look was so basic. Also, she just sucked the joy out of the room. Nothing - not even the pillow she slept on - escaped her bitterness. Both of the top two looks were amazing. It must have been a hard choice for them to make. Brandon clearly loves transformative looks. The first designer to understand that will enjoy a long ride on this show! Oh, those fish bone earrings Nina wore at the beginning of the show were so beautiful. Usually I'm not an earring person but I'd buy the knock-off version of those! Renee's outfit gave me life. It was so beautiful and classy, with a nice Dior New Look, retro vibe. It reminded me of the kind of things Stanley does. Elegant, luxe, for a lady who wears gloves. I adored it. And she has NINE kids? I am bowing down right now. Looking forward to seeing more from her. 9 hours ago, heckkitty said: I thought I’d be annoyed with Kovid & now I saw him with Mimi and I freakin adore him. Popular Post politichick March 15, 2019 Popular Post Share March 15, 2019 I quite liked the top two looks, but so many of the others were very questionable. I can't believe the judges liked the one with the feathers and one sleeve. I also really like the diversity among the designers, but is it really fair to have someone like Frankie in the mix? She is doomed because she clearly doesn't have the skill level or taste. The designers who pitched in to help her were very sweet but they may not have that kind of time next time around. And, while this may not be a popular opinion, I think that it's fine to have a selection of challenges with different size models, but would like to see more with not stick figures, but not models like the one Frankie and the heinous Cavanaugh had. Do the designers with the slimmer models have an unfair advantage? Why not have challenges with either all slim or all plus so that everyone's starting off in the same place? 26 Link to comment

Hester redeemed herself with me slightly by showing kindness and concern when Frankie melted down after her model's torso was so much longer than she expected. It really is unconscionable that they were only supplied bust and hip measurements on the model cards. If she wants to remain Hester is going to have to bring it on the runway, because all of the affectations of her personal dress -- especially including what she seems to think makes her stand out in a good way -- the juxtaposition of PLZ DIE, DEAD, and F OFF, etc. messages on her clown hats and clothing don't convey intelligence or artistic sensibilities in any way to me -- quite the opposite in fact. 25 Link to comment

Maybe it would be more even if they met their models right at the beginning of the challenge instead of just having the model card. They would be able to take their own measurements and gear their design to look best on that specific model. There's always an expectation of having to do some changes which is why they have the fitting but with the variety of models they have the changes can become more challenging once they've already cut their fabric. 31 Link to comment

Fellaway March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 Add me to the viewers who found the quick cuts away from the designs on the final runway maddening. We're here to see the designs, Show. For some, I don't think they even gave us full body shots of them! I just watched this episode last night and, honestly, I've completely forgotten what the winning design looked like. It was black? Maybe? But I remember 2 and 3. Renee was robbed. And I can't believe that third look was the third look. Seriously, there was nothing better than that to put in the Top Three? Because that look was bad. I am already so over the Frankie drama. That was a season's worth of drama for one contestant right there. As to the elimination, I would've auf'ed Frankie over Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh's design was at least wearable and better made. If "ideas" was the thing for the judges, they both had ideas, but they both made cutting mistakes that landed Cavanaugh's supposedly outfit making jacket back in the workroom, while Frankie's ended up on the runway.. So, yeah, they got to see Frankie's idea and not Cavanaugh's, but... I dunno, but I bet Cavanaugh's jacket was a better idea than whatever Frankie originally intended to send down the runway because her design looked like crap from the get. Cavanaugh was quite the pill, though, so maybe I'd have auf'ed both of them. Or kept them both and given them another week to settle in or not. 9 Link to comment

Sister Havana March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 I thought Renee’s outfit should have won. I would totally wear something like that too. The winning outfit was all right. The back of it was very cool. I wasn’t impressed with most of the other runway looks, though. I knew Cavanaugh would be the one aufed as soon as it was between Frankie and her. When it’s between bad and boring, boring almost always loses out. 5 Link to comment

roctavia March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 I am really glad to see PR back on Bravo, I hope the rest of the season continues in this vein- linger challenges, more supportive cast... not completely bonkers judging. i was okay with the top and bottom looks; mostly... though the winning dress was middle of the road to me. I think part of the problem was how it was cut in the front and the fact that models don’t wear undergarments... the dress seemed to hang from her nipples and it just wasn’t appealing to me. I agree that I would have picked the other dress as the winner. I was also okay with the person who was aufed her outfit was boring and I still have flashbacks from whichever season that was where one of the top designers kept making boring skirts and crop tops with gallons of praise. Frankie was drama tastic, but I would rather see more from her than Cavenaugh. I think her outfit could have been neat and tasteful if she had enough time and it covered more of the models booty. I loved the blue and the striping she did... she also was getting so much screen time I had a feeling she was staying, since why give the sob story only to eliminated her? In a few episodes it would have been the loser edit. Christian was very much channeling Tim Gunn with his mannerisms and just his approach to the contestants. I miss Tim but Christian was a better mentor than I expected. Comparing this to All Stars is not even a fair comparison it is so many miles better! For me, the only solution was to hit the mute button every time he opened his mouth. But he's really grown up a lot since then - both as a person and as a designer. He's dropped his "fierce" affectation (thank goodness) and his designs are stunning. I actually look forward to seeing (and hearing) him now! I think he'll be a good mentor. I noticed he gave the designers good, actionable, feedback. Tim became famous for "make it work", but Christian's suggestion to Frankie, which would avoid her having to start from scratch with only two hours to work, was much more helpful. 15 hours ago, Plums said: At the same time, I get how they could justify keeping her over Cavanaugh, from a design perspective. At least Frankie took risks and had a clear, unique aesthetic she was trying to get across, and it actually had something to do with the challenge. I liked the juxtaposition of both Frankie and Cavanaugh realizing they screwed up the main features of their designs and how they tried to fix it, with Frankie basically starting over her construction from scratch, which left her in an impossible time crunch, but still trying to make the design work, and Cavanaugh basically ditching her design by not even attempting to fix the tweed jacket. So she was able to send functional clothes down the runway, but they were entirely uninspired and basic. I really felt for Frankie. It wasn't that her model was plus size or that she was so tall, but the two together and her having a longer than average torso that was the problem. I'm sure the designers are given basic height/bust/waist/hip measurements, but I doubt something like torso length is on their cards, and they may not be given crotch depth, either. When a model with proportions so different from average is a possibility (which you wouldn't know unless you see them), you have two options. You either design something that will fit regardless (like a dress, without a waist seam) or take a chance (like Frankie did) - design what you want, draft to the measurements you do have, and hope for the best. Frankie didn't take the easy way out; she gambled and her garment failed. But at least she took a chance; Cavanagh didn't. I think that's why she stayed. I was so glad Cavanagh got the boot. Getting kicked off first may do her a lot of good because she needed to be taken down a few pegs. I don't know what market she thinks she's selling to, but hundreds of likes on an IG post (on a photo taken by a professional photographer, she made sure to tell us!) doesn't always translate to sales. As anyone who watches Say Yes to the Dress will tell you, the average person doesn't know fabrics (beyond, perhaps, "I don't like shiny!"), or how to tell a quality fabric from those that... aren't. I'm not saying she shouldn't use quality fabrics in her clothing, but the design is what most people are looking at and is what will sell the clothes. Edited to add: I just took a peek at Cavanagh's IG. She has almost 7000 followers, but averages about 150 likes per post. (My CAT has 1000 followers and averages 110 likes per post, and HE'S NAKED). The clothing in her IG posts are very basic. They appear to be well made, and the fabrics are good quality (natural; wools, silks, etc) but the prices are high. $550.00 (on sale for $440.00) for a pair of black wool flared trousers.... Popular Post Ilovepie March 15, 2019 Popular Post Share March 15, 2019 Wow that was great! I am so happy this show is back on Bravo after the trash version the last few years on Lifetime. Definitely an upgrade. I liked the judges, and Karli is fine. I don't think she's any worse than Alyssa Milano, and maybe she will like things that aren't just short, tight and shiny like Heidi....time will tell. Christian is fantastic. I had high hopes for him since I thought he did a great job judging the PR: Junior edition. I really liked his advice to Frankie to just make a short so her model had something to wear. I honestly think her model would have looked better if she had followed his advice. That bottom was tragic. I am glad she stayed over the insufferable Cavanaugh though. Why she didn't incorporate that tweed as some kind of trim on her all black outfit I don't know. I am glad she is gone. I liked that there was minimal drama over the different sized models. No pandering and patting themselves on the back for it as if they are so magnanimous for letting a woman who weighs more than 100 pounds on the runway, just pick a card, there's your model. As it should be. I also liked that there was just an accessory wall, no JCPenney, Just Fab, etc. in sight. I liked both top two looks, but the third top look I was like WTF?!? Those feathers were bananas......definitely missing Michael Kors at that moment.... More than anything though, I heard the words that were music to my ears: "This is a two day challenge." I hope that is the standard moving forward; going to primarily one day challenges was one of the contributing factors of the decline in quality in my opinion. Overall I am super excited for this season, more than I've been in so long. I hope this marks a return to greatness - fingers crossed! 25 Link to comment

Now this blue/orange one has long straps like Christine's on PR All-Stars. Hester's looks like a cupcake. Now the big bow thing, we've seen before. Sonia's is nice, I wonder if she knows Leanne in Portland. Lela's drapy outfit was a little weak. The loft workroom is pretty cool-looking. Still "brother" sewing machines - at least some things are staying the same! They get two days to work on their garments!! I wonder how many pairs of glasses Mickey Mouse girl (Hester?) owns. 2 Link to comment

StrictTime March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 I think the winning look won because it stuck to the inspiration photo more than the look produced by Renee. Renee’s design was great, but looked more Fall than the inspiration pic. You could easily see the nautical influence in Tessa’s design. 2 Link to comment
Lamb18 March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 Karlie Kloss seems very familiar, has she been a judge on PR or one of the other fashion/models shows? It seems like they have more money, too, for fabric and other stuff. $250 for this challenge. Funny how Cavanaugh complains she doesn't have enough money, then in the next seen the two designers are amazed they have so much money to spend on one garment. One is the woman who is currently living in her car. Now, where's Swatch? 7 Link to comment
njbchlover March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 So glad this is back and back on Bravo!! Hopefully, the rest of the season will have more two day challenges, so we can see actually well constructed and finished garments!! I'm liking all the judges (well....not crazy about Nina, but she seemed a little less nasty last night), and love Christian - I've been a fan of his since his PR season! And, it seems like a nice mix of designers. I can't remember - did the designers come up with their garment designs before or after they chose their model card? While the winning look was interesting, it looked interesting because of the model's height and shape. That same garment would have looked like a ridiculous sack on any one of the more curvy models or on a shorter girl. One other thing I was wondering - does it seem like the backlighting and/or backdrop is MUCH brighter when Hester (Grown-up Rainbow Bright) is doing her talking head interviews? Just seems like the producers want to make her look like human sunshine! 2 Link to comment
Lamb18 March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 I like Frankie, she seems familiar, too. Actually I know who she reminds me of - a contestant on a past Project Runway or other competition who looks like her but has a much higher-pitched voice. Maybe a cooking competition on Food Network. Hester sure has a mess at her work station, especially all the scraps on the floor! 1 Link to comment

Lamb18 March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 Karlie and Christian next to each other - it's like a ventriloquist and her dummy. I'm curious to see how Christian works out as a mentor. He doesn't sounded excited about Cavanaugh's garment although he said he was. 1 2 Link to comment
Ms Lark March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 Cavanaugh: Alexis Rose on Schitt's Creek. Initial and final reactions! Buh bye. (Although, Alexis is actually funny.) Hester: Aside from what she sent down the runway, looks like her designs are for children, juniors, and clowns. Renee should have won. That was a stunning outfit that fit the challenge perfectly. Have a feeling Frankie will be out next week. Nina's side eye with the crying was priceless. A lot of the outfits looked really cheap. Some of it was poor construction, some was poor choice of fabric, some were both. Inspiration photos weren't really inspirational. Weird choices. I do like that the judges get a closer look at what they're judging. I don't know. Too many contestants for a start. I'm sure Hester and Frankie are cannon fodder, which is a shame. 4 Link to comment

Lamb18 March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 The editing is clever how they show one designer expressing an opinion and then next is shown a designer expressing the opposite opinion on the same subject. I feel like they don't like Cavanaugh very much. I liked Sebastian's look quite a bit. I first I thought "hoochie mama", then I realized it was like a swim suit and covering garments. But it was fun. Of the three top looks, I liked Renee's the best. Poor Frankie. I hope she's not eliminated but it's not looking good for her. I'm glad she got to stay. I can't help wondering if pity went into the judges' decision. 5 Link to comment
Gloriosa March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 The designers were so excited to see Christian! I noticed, too, that he has a grown-up haircut now. I recently saw him on his season - what a difference. 6 Link to comment

Karli must be 8 feet tall- hopefully she will get better over time. Anyone else remember Katie Lee as the season 1 host of Top Chef..? I recall Christian being a lot more bitchy, but he was super nice and supportive of the designers. I definitely like Renee's style of clothing so far. I wonder if Afa and Ansuelo ( 90 Fiance ) are related, he could be his older brother Christian the contestant was quite snarky. Christian the judge on PR Juniors was a very thoughtful and helpful judge. He was direct and honest with the kids -- and most importantly gave feedback that gave them something to takeaway and use going forward. I was nervous when he was sitting there to judge the kids at first. 15 Link to comment
Popular Post Ashforth March 15, 2019 Popular Post Share March 15, 2019 (edited) Christian was only 21 years old when he won PR about twelve years ago. He's had lots of time to mature and gain confidence instead of bravado, and it shows. Plus, he is indeed (indeed! LOL) a successful working designer and I think that brings value to his critiques and suggestions that a teacher or fashion editor can't provide. I don't miss Heidi at all, and I'm sad to say I don't miss Tim, either. I won't go into all the reasons because this thread is about the current show. I really felt bad for Frankie, she just had one problem after another. It did say a lot about her personality that several other designers jumped in to help her pull it together in the final minutes. Cavanaugh was a prissy bitch and I’m glad she’s gone! 11 Link to comment
Ms Blue Jay March 15, 2019 Share March 15, 2019 (edited) Watching the episode again (so I can really concentrate this time). I love that there are other people who do this. Kovid seems amazing. What a great guy. Karlie says "like" way too much for my taste. Hopefully she'll watch this back and realize. That quirky woman says "literally" when it doesn't make sense, which is my pet peeve. No, quirky woman, you are not "literally in your head going Ahhhhhhhhhhhh." Edited March 15, 2019 by Ms Blue Jay 2 7 Link to comment

I agree. On WWHL Christian answered the question, was it fun, with a bit of ambiguity. He eluded to this bunch needing a lot of help. And that came across in the 'fashion' I saw. I like Karlie after seeing here on there, too. 10 hours ago, LennieBriscoe said: I didn't care for the opening gambit of a selective showing of some contestants' designs because there was no sense of their ouevre, so what was the point? The winning design was fabulous, darling [tm Isaac Mizrahi]. I agree. I don't miss Tim or the old opening though the new one is not good. I loved the winning dress. The one with the cape than many loved I found well done but boring. 1 Link to comment
