Holy shit, Joy was what, fourteen at the time?! Was Michelle seriously going to leave the care of a preemie in the hands of a freaking teenager?! I can't believe she could be that stupid.

My understanding is that when they thought Josie was going to be a normal full-term pregnancy she was going to be Joy's buddy. (She was 12.) It was when they had to do an emergency pre-term c-section and she came out with complications she got moved to Jana.  But I thought that was Jinger. Joy as far as I know didn't have dedicated buddies until Jill married and she took over Jill's buddy team. I think Joy was still mainly a tomboy at that time.

God forbid that Josie’s actual mother care for her. JFC

has anyone noticed, and this may have been pointed out, that Austin's smile just doesn't quite reach his eyes? It's part of what makes him seem so terrifying. Even when he's smiling he just seems so angry about something. It's unsettling.

Right? When he's smiling, he looks angry, and I always feel relief when he laughs, like, "ok well, I guess he must not actually be mad."

They actually took until Josie was home to move on from Joy to Jana.  Michelle had that little comprehension of the needs that Josie had.  Then she became Jana and Jill's responsibility.

Don't forget Michelle left not long after Josie came home to go to Central America. That's where she and JB were when Josie had a seizure and had to return to the hospital. It was an "emergency" that Michelle and JB had to leave the country and leave the premie in the hands of teenagers.

No, he was at the hospital when Josie was born. Just before they went into the OR, he did a quick video that was actually sincere, talking about how their lives were about to change forever.

Austin looks like the kind of husband who will make Joy endure a home birth...agony and all.

I think some of these super religious guys get a perverse pleasure out of the suffering of women during childbirth. Women need to suffer for the sins of Eve and all that garbage. It makes some of them feel superior. Very sad for the women they claim to love.

J.B. was home when Michelle had Josie. But several of the older children were in El Salvador. That’s why Josh and Anna came to the Duggar home to watch the younger children.    When the older kids  got back, JB trooped the entire lot of them into the NICU to see the baby.

Your right. I looked it up it was in season five Kids to the Rescue that Michelle and Jim Bob were in El Salvador when Josie had a seizure. She was a little over a year. They tried to claim it was an emergency that they had to go to El Salvador because of adoptions stuff when people questioned why they would both leave the country and leave Josie in the hands of their teenage children. Because if El Salvador had an emergency like that they'd contact those two to first.

I just have no words for parents that leave a 1 year oldish premie at home and take off to another country to do missionary work and leave all the young kids at home with 20 year olds or younger.  Who thinks this?  Also, I'd be curious how long it took to treat Josie at the hospital since neither parent was there.  I ask because when babysitting a nephew and taking him to swimming classes, he hit his head lightly on the side of the pool, but the swimming class insisted he be taken to the hospital - it was a college campus with both.  They would not began an exam until we could get his father on the phone and let him give permission for the treatment.  Makes me curious if Jana has like a blanket medical authority writ for all of her younger siblings so that she can give permissions in emergencies.  (and yes I know there is an official, legal term for that, but my coffee has worn off)

i was thinking about joy and her pregnancy.   no updates, very very few photos, no shower news, no game playing about twins, no boy vs girl stuff.....it struck me as very sad that for her first time, even if she IS a baby herself, she seemingly does not get to enjoy her pregnancy like any of the others  or even like most other women.  i wonder if this is her doing, as in 'meh its just another day' or if she really is restricted from social media and sharing her life. then there is the removal of that video of their house. it all seems weird to me...and a lot sad.

I may not be remembering correctly, but I seem to think that Joy was to "get" Josie, but Josie was too early and too small.

Well, at one point they had an awful lot of little kids (more than one point, actually). So they almost certainly corralled at least all the girls and maybe even some of the boys into various age-inappropriate little-kid-handling work at times. Jill was likely helping cook dinner and clean the living room while trying to teach James to say the alphabet all at the same time when this picture was taken. And somebody had to drag Hannie around, so another girl in Jill's buddy team was designated.

I don't think there's any way that the four oldest girls would have been able to handle all the tasks they were stuck with all the time (even less chance if any of the four was crafty and ever snuck out of assigned tasks). And we know their mother and father offered little to no assistance. This was not just a very large family but a fricking huge family -- beyond any size that could be managed in anything like a normal. way.

Just the size of the family, along with having its mother be lazy and psychologically disturbed, constitutes a certain level of child abuse all by itself, if you ask me.

It might be a lot of factors. Being pregnant was likely one of the very few times in her life where she was the centre of attention for longer than 3 minutes. Then Kendra and Jinger get pregnant. Now she's not so special anymore. She'll get attention once she delivers the baby but Kendra and Jinger's babies will be born shortly afterwards.

That's right. But he was in DA when Michelle got her gall bladder out, which started the premature labor to begin with. That's what I mixed up. My bad!

It could be that Joy is living her 'normal' life which never included social media.

Jill acted as if she was the first pregnant woman - ever (except for all the women whose Pinterest ideas she stole). Jessa was and is, using her pregnancies and children as marketing tools.

Joy is probably happily barefoot and pregnant, pondering how the baby actually gets out and hanging with Austin fixing up homes.

If Austin is fixing up homes, they aren't in his name in either Washington or Benton Counties. The only home in his name is the one they live in (and he still hasn't put Joy's name on the deed).

I may be misremembering, but I think your timeline is off. Mullet had her gallbladder out well after Josie was born. The Duggars THOUGHT her gallbladder was the issue when Mullet went to the local hospital and was then airlifted to Little Rock, but she turned out to have preeclampsia, which is what caused Josie's premature delivery. Then, months later, Mullet did need her gallbladder removed.

I knew Joy was in Jill's buddy team, but was she actually a sister mom herself?  She looks about 8 years old here and hefting Johannah on her little back is not a good thing.

In one of their older travelling episodes - maybe NYC for a Dateline appearance - I remember one of the Howlers practically falling on his face as he was hauling a lost girl on his back.  For some reason I remember it was when he stepped off the up escalator, but I may be making that part up.

I remember that episode, and I was impressed that he actually "got" it.  No droning on about God, etc.  Just our lives will never be the same.  I've always thought that Michelle was the true fanatic in that pair.

People talk about how the camera crew rushed in to catch Josie's seizure in close-up, which they did.  But the larger impression I got was that the producer and crew rushed in to handle the medical emergency.  Jana was absolutely freaked out and emotional - no judgement, she had a house full she was responsible for - and the crew called the EMTs, etc.  As awful as this show actually is, and as mercenary as TLC has been, I think they've probably saved the lives of a Duggar or two or three.  I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Jim was the one who finally released sobbing, Jessa-abandoned Jordyn from the lock on high chair.

I believe that was a different seizure when Josie was 4 or 5. Maybe during the lag time between canceling 19 Kids and starting Counting On. One of the howlers saw Josie starting to blank out and Jana called the nearby crew before calling 911. M & JB were somewhere in the States and made it home after Josie was released from the ER.

I have no earthly idea why you would want to put off this surgery.  Two of my siblings had theirs removed, and it's an easy procedure.  My sister was miserable during her second pregnancy when her gallbladder was acting up.  She had her's removed less than 2 months after having my nephew.

My husband almost had to have his taken out not too long after his transplant. Another patient got a bad gallbladder infection that was causing problems with his new kidney. I guess now transplant centers are requiring patients to have their gallbladder removed before getting a new kidney. The kidney specialist was concerned about it because my husband would have to be cut open due to the scar tissue from his transplant. So far so good. No need for surgery for almost fourteen years. Hopefully he will not need to have his removed.

I guess God did not save Michelle from having her gallbladder removed. She must not have prayed and read the bible enough.

Joy very well might not enjoy being pregnant. I didn't. I didn't feel well, I was uncomfortable with my belly, I hate the attention it drew, etc.

That being said, this is so funny....when they overshare it is "longest pregnancy in history" or "we don't care" or "weekly pictures like a teenager would do" so she is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. Maybe she just doesn't love the spotlight and it more comfortable not sharing?!

That's what I'm thinking. I do get creepy vibes off of Austin but I think Joy's absence from social media is all her doing.

I think Joy's spot on the Duggar line-up is significant, here. Growing up on the show, the focus was on Josh, the four oldest sisters, and the youngest kids. Joy wasn't a sister mom so people weren't interested in hearing from her, and she was too old to be considered cute during talking heads. She never had to deal with the public or TLC producers being interested in her specifically, so she never had to learn to engage with the cameras as an individual. When she was shoe-horned in with her older sisters it was extremely obvious that she was out of her element and was bored out of her mind. The first time I remember her being included with the older group was when they did that group interview before any of them were married about what they were looking for in a husband, and Joy had no idea how to answer questions, even the pre-approved ones from the producers. In that light, it's not at all surprising that, once out of the house, she doesn't actively seek out attention. It wasn't her job to do that growing up so she never developed the habit or interest.

Because pregnancy produces hormones, estrogen and progesterone, that are built from cholesterol.  Because of the metabolism of those hormones, the cholesterol level in all pregnant women is high (never get your cholesterol checked while pregnant).  What are gallstones made of?  Cholesterol!  So, if a woman is prone to gallstones, she is going to make more of them in pregnancy and this can lead to serious, even life-threatening, complications.  My grandmother died of complications after gallbladder surgery.  It happens.

Consider me a conspiracy theorist who thinks the baby is already here, and that's the reason for the radio silence. Then they'll play a little game where they show us a few newborn pics, and not much else until about thanksgiving maybe. Anytime we see joy, she'll have a giant blanket or something where we can't see the baby. ?

It's kind of surreal to see a Duggar girl's natural, non-orange-spray-tanned skin here on Joy. It's really a glaring reminder that they paint themselves with fake tanner even with modesty and all....

I hated being pregnant. There are maybe six-seven pictures of me when I was pregnant (that's including both of my pregnancies).

I always thought I'd do cute bump photos/pregnancy photo shoots with my husband.  Then by the second trimester, I was so uncomfortable, felt so gross all of the time in the humidity of south Louisiana, and was so over being pregnant, that I found the idea of doing pregnancy photos of myself as repellent.  (I still think it's cute when people do them. I'm jealous that the pregnant women look so serene and happy cradling their bumps. I felt anything but cute or serene once I started to show & wanted no part of doing my own pregnancy photo shoot.)  There's no way I'd be taking pregnancy portraits or even cute mirror-bump-selfies when I was pregnant if I knew thousands of followers would be looking at them (as they would Joy's). I'd be exhausted just thinking about it.  Good for Joy for not feeling like she "has to" do the photo documentation of her pregnancy for the whole world to see.

They're now 262 days post wedding so definitely "in the clear" from all the conspiracy talk.  Not a lot of photos have been posted from Joy or Austin ever so I don't think it's strange at all that they are being quiet now.  Joy is probably involved in exactly what she should be of doing final preparations and maybe having some fun before the baby gets here.
