Jill, Derick & the Kids: Moving On!!

I wonder what Jill does in class. How she behaves? Is she quiet and studious, trying to get what she can out of it, or is she a distraction to Derick (and the other students)?

Maybe she only goes in long enough to get a photo with Dreck and then wanders the halls.

(I wrote this last night but I never saw it post so if it's a duplicate, I apologize. My phone gives me grief sometimes when I try to post here!)

Why the fuck is a professor encouraging it? Hey, I know the students here have paid thousands of dollars to take this class but let’s give your significant others a free education and I won’t call on you when they’re there. That’s bullshit.

Yeah it seems super weird, unless it’s to weed out those not taking the class seriously.

Derick will push this as far as he can. The whole thing is 100% about is ego. He gets to play the part of law scholar and impress Jill, he gets to act superior on SM showing off how much time he spends with his wife and is totally nailing balancing school with being hashtag besthubbyevah. He can show off in class to his cohorts that how wife is so supportive. Bringing her to class is in no way helpful to his studies.

But still.  Why?!  I’ve never heard of attending grad school with ones significant other. It never would have occurred to me to do that. Why would a prof encourage it unless it was for a special presentation or reason?

I can see the UofA law school reconsidering this guest policy at some point if Derick continues to bring Jill.  Probably after he flunks out gets a new calling from Jesus.

Yep. He’ll be the one that pushes the privilege too far and ruins it for everyone else by having said privilege taken away.

I don’t see the issue considering Jill only shows up to classes where students have been enouraged to bring guests.

Also:

“but she’s only tagged along twice so far as I’m aware of”

It’s a public university, so I don’t see the problem with her hanging around. Plus she doesn’t participate or earn credits or anything.

I think the professor rightly thinks the general public could benefit from exposure to legal principles.

That's my read. I wonder what the attrition rate is at U of A. Anyone know? Derick wouldn't be the first to be weeded out. Law school people: does the first semester have a 'babysitting' component?

Duggar’s Taco Soup

Sep 28, 2018 | Recipes | 0

This is one of my favorite soup-ish/fall dishes! I can’t help but to snatch a few bites from the pot while it’s simmering on the stove! For awhile, my mom made this about every Friday evening when they would host a Bible study at their house. (She’d usually triple the recipe to make it “Duggar Sized.”) It’s easy to throw together and easy to keep hot on the stove or in a crock pot.

Makes about 5 quarts (fills one large crock pot)

1 lb. ground beef or turkey, (cook with onion)

1 med onion, diced

1 (4oz.) can green chilies, (my mom would blend if she thought the kids might not like the chunks)

1 t. salt

1/2 t. pepper

1/4 C. taco seasoning (or one pkg.)

1/3 C. ranch (or one dry pkg.)

2 cans hominy (or corn), undrained

3 cans (14.5oz.) diced tomatoes, undrained

1 can (14.5oz.) red or black beans, undrained

2 cans (14.5oz.) pinto beans, undrained

1 1/2 C. water

Brown meat with onion & drain. Add all ingredients to pot. Stir. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer 30 min. Serve with tortilla chips, grated cheese and sour cream.

I have noticed that Jill starts almost all of her comments on other's Instagram post with either "Awww!" or "Yay!"

Sadly it looks like the Reddit mole decided against posting about Derick. All of the mole's comments have been deleted. ?

I make boxed mocha brownies, too. I buy boxed brownie mix, dissolve 4 teaspoons of powdered espresso in 1 tablespoon of hot water, mix it with the brownie ingredients, and bake according to package directions. When they're cool, I cut them in 2"x2" squares, melt a bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips and pipe diagonal lines across each piece, eat the remaining melted chocolate with a spoon, and top each brownie with a chocolate covered coffee bean.

When I was a college student and in different groups, I would bring these to our fundraising bake sales and sell them for $1 each. They usually sold out in the first 15-30 minutes. Now I bring them to the tutoring lab on special occasions, like the first day of the semester or when we're open late in the evenings during finals week. Or, when students get together and bribe me to make them by bringing the ingredients and a Cherry Amp (which I drink instead of coffee).

And how do I get to your house?  I’ll bring salt and vinegar chips as trade

As much as I enjoyed the updates, I don’t blame them. I wouldn’t want to be known by my other classmates as the class snitch.

Plus Derick is doing enough to look like a dumbass all on his own. He really does seem to think he’s the most specialist snowflake that ever fell from the sky.

I hope that Izzy and Sam don't hope to find girls who 'cook just like mama' when they grow up -- I can't believe that there will be anyone who can (or will) dump can after can of food into a pot and call it dinner.

So they had poorly made guacamole, chips and salsa for dinner? It doesn’t look like they had anything else on the table. Mr. I Must Mention I’m in Law School at Every Opportunity obviously has no idea what the words supper or delicious mean. Maybe they had that crappy taco soup.

My daughter made this soup today but used her own recipe. It was delicious and didn’t look like what is in this pot at all.

I love salt & vinegar chips!

Undrained beans thicken up the soup, although I doubt this is why Jill doesn't drain hers. I use my slow cooker, dry beans and fresh veggies for my taco soup, although I do use packaged taco seasoning. And l leave out the hamburger because I don't like hamburger in soups. It started out as 2 cups of dry beans and a package of taco seasoning in the slow cooker with enough water to cover them, plus 2 inches because I was really poor when I first made it. These days I add a chopped onion, some garlic, and a red bell pepper (not a hot pepper fan) for added flavor.

PS: I don't suppose anyone took a screenshot of the undercover law student's posts before he deleted them?

And, Duggar’s Taco Soup. Just one Duggar?

I make delicious taco soup all the time and it’s much fresher and better looking than that. Chilies would be too chunky for kids, but beans aren’t?  And I drain the beans!!!

Ok, so this has reached an even more pathetic level. I remember my law school ex not seeing me for TWO WEEKS during finals!!! What's more, he lived across the country, and went home for Christmas not long after that. Being a law student's significant other is definitely not easy in any way, shape or form. It sucked, but it was what it was, and I wanted him to do well.

If Jilly is not permitting Derick to miss ONE NIGHT of dinner...wow. Finals are going to be fun! What about Izzy and Sam as teenagers? I know they will not be allowed to be friends, but what if they want to have dinner with a friend? Are they allowed to ever miss a night? It's just so weird. Plus, that seems like such a messy meal choice to transport.

Any normal student would think, "I have to stay here to study tonight. Good thing there are some fast food options on campus." My college cafeteria had a Subway and Chick-fil-A, and it was always fun having an excuse to eat it, plus there were tons of other restaurants in walking distance. Why would you want the distraction of Jill showing up? Wouldn't it be way easier to grab a burger and eat while you study?

Ok a question about this, I do not do much social media just here and Facebook, is it rude to check someone's old posting history because that sounds like what someone was doing.

I don’t think it’s bad in itself. But in this situation, it sounds like someone was trying to discover and out this person’s identity. I can see why the poster would be upset.

His turn? The old law school tv drama I used to watch, The Paper Chase, showed terror in the law school classroom, ‘cause you never knew when you would be called on.

Law school terror can make for some good tv, and while true that we didn't know ahead of time when the professor was going to call on us to answer a question, going all the way back to kindergarten, I can't think of one time ever where I was given a head's up that I was going to be called on in class.  TV/movies like to portray law students being humiliated in front of the class if called upon and he/she is unprepared or doesn't know the answer....because that's entertaining, and the purpose of tv/movies, by and large, is to entertain.  While I can certainly only speak to my experience, which comprises some infinitesimally small percentage of all the times professors have randomly called on law students during class, so may or may not be of much value, I never once observed (or experienced myself) a professor terrorize a student in class.  (Keep in mind, also, that when someone was completely unprepared/behind, it was common to just skip class that day and stay home reading like a fiend trying to get caught up for the next class....and you can't get called on if you aren't present lol).  I also never experienced any of the cut throat, classmates purposely sabotaging/undermining each other crap you hear about.  Not saying it never happens, but from my experience, it seems to be the exception, not the rule.

As far as Jill attending class with Derick.... I sincerely hope that she went only because the professor was indeed encouraging it for whatever reason.  If that's the case and Derick wanted her to accompany him, then it was a supportive, kind thing to do for Derick.  If it wasn't by invitation, then I can't imagine why in the world you would choose to attend law school classes with your spouse - unless you're jealous AF, needy AF, or happen to be really interested in law (and I seriously doubt the latter applies to dear Jilly Muffin).  And I don't mean that last statement as an insult, but Jill has never given any indication that law interests her at all.  I mean, I was enrolled in law school, I (mostly) enjoyed what I was learning, and I can tell you that often, given the choice, I could have come up with A LOT of things I'd rather have been doing than going to class.  ;-)

Ouch.

Jill could use a good adult literacy program. Many community colleges offer them. She could brag that she's going to college, and Derick could feel relieved that he won't be a lawyer with a semi-literate wife.

"Late night study session"? Should the boys be at home in their pj's ready for BED?

I wonder how late this study session was & thought the same thing that the boys should be home in bed.

I'm sure  not much studying got done so this pushes Dimwit back a little more.

Until @DragonFaerie pointed it out that it looks like guacamole,  I thought the bowl may have contained  some type of taco salad which wouldn't  have been too bad if she had added things like meat or beans to it. Still not very filling if this was a late night dinner & he hadn't eaten since lunch. (just assuming)

Do you think Izzy & Sam were allowed to run wild while the Dimwits stared lovingly into each others eyes?  If so, they were being inconsiderate of their fellow diners esp since young children aren't usually found in a college cafeteria. But that doesn't surprise me.
