They don't even seem like good friends let alone some affair! I kinda don't think they're friends at all, to be honest. They used to be friendlier, but she certainly does not seem to like his (now) wife. She's befriended everyone else on the show, but Candice has completely ignored her and is literally the only person from the show who refused to follow her back on social media (and interestingly, she did like his ex- they still follow each other and comment on each other's posts occasionally). So, that's probably the reason she and Grant are less friendly now, it must be. Link to comment

tv echo January 9, 2019 Share January 9, 2019 (edited) I only transcribed Arrow-related comments (just to be safe, I used spoiler tags for anything arguably spoiler-ish)... I Could Never Be Katherine McNamara Popcorn Talk January 8, 2019 -- When asked about the differences between the fanbases for Arrow and Shadowhunters, Katherine McNamara: "Yeah, what I love in general about these sort of fanbases that are all based on source material or these sci-fi fantasy shows that have such a strong following is that, people actually really care. So often as an actor, you'll put something out into the world that you pour your heart and soul into and, you know, people might watch it once and go, 'oh, that's interesting,' but these people are so invested. They watch it over and over again, and they think about it... The amount of conversations I've had where I've learned more than the person I'm speaking to about the show and the character... and it's changed my perspective completely on these things... I'm really grateful. You know, we pour blood, sweat and tears into making these things, and the fact that it makes someone happy out there and they really are invested and care about it, it's fantastic." -- When asked if she was a superhero fan before Arrow and if she was involved in the comic universe, KM: "I've always been a fan of it. I didn't ever know a lot about it. Um, I had seen a few episodes of Arrow. I'd seen little bits of all these different things. And, of course, being someone who's been to Comic Con a few years in a row now, I've seen it and I've seen the frenzy and I've learned about it. But the fandoms are very - they're very different and they're very much the same. They care about different things, but ultimately it's the heart of them that has that core that carries through, no matter what. And the thing I will give them the most credit for - I was really nervous about announcing that I was going over to Arrow because I didn't want the Shadowhunters fans to feel as if I was abandoning them... But they've come together. They go, 'oh great, now there's more we get to watch, there's more fandom, we can bring everybody over and cross-pollinate.' And it's been fantastic." -- When asked what it was like filming the cage fight scene in Arrow as badass Maya and training for that fight, KM: "Well, I'm very lucky, given on Shadowhunters we have amazing stunt coordinators and trainers who trained on their off-time and our off-time. So I would train three to five times a week with these world-class martial artists during Shadowhunters. So I've had a few years of this kind of training. And now, moving on to Arrow, I'm so excited because I get to continue that. So, most of that fight was me, aside from a few of the tricks and things that, for insurance purposes, they won't let me do. But it was so fantastic to be able to show up for my first episode and do my own fight scene and do all of that. But it did make me chuckle, 'cause they said it was a cage fight - in the script, it says 'Cage Fight' - and I said, 'oh, okay, cool' ... An MMA cage, I'm thinking, a boxing ring sort of thing. Then, when I show up on set, it's a full-on, rebar cage. And I went, 'oh, that's interesting.' But sure, why not? It was really fun... When you have an environment that's so immersive, it provides so much more to do. You know, for example, the first thing I do now in the scene is I jump up on the ceiling and boot the guy in the chest. That wasn't in the script, that wasn't in the choreography. But when we got to set, we looked at it and went, 'oh, we can do that.' Let's add that in as the first time you see her be - you know, her booting a tall guy in the chest." -- When asked what fans can expect with her Maya character on Arrow, KM: "Well, there's a lot of speculation, um, and the hardest part about being a part of Arrow so far has been all the secrets, 'cause I have many that I'm not allowed to share and I'm dying to. But I'm very good about keeping secrets, so they have nothing to worry about. My employers, don't sweat... It's a very exciting character because there is so much to mine out of her. And she is someone - unlike Clary, my character on Shadowhunters... Clary is someone who was wide-eyed, thrown into this world, having to figure it out. My character here has grown up in this world. She's a product of that harsh, brutal environment. And she's very much one that will punch first and ask questions later. And one who is not to be underestimated. And someone who has a lot of issues of her own to work through. Um, but she's a - she's a very interesting person. And it's great to be a part of now this future storyline team, which is an amalgamation of new characters, new characters that have grown up, and an amalgamation of some of the old characters too. You know, I just got to work with Colton Haynes for the first time, who I know is a fan favorite - and a personal favorite. He's a fantastic human being, who I'm so excited I got to spend time with. It's been a - and Juliana as well, who is just fantastic. It's nice to be welcomed into a show in such a warm way, uh, given that they're in their seventh season. They're very well-established." -- KM: "I have to give the biggest credit to - I haven't met everybody yet, but one of my first experiences on the Arrow set - I went up for some meetings and fittings and such. And I happened to be in the hair and makeup trailer... They had this episode that was basically this big fight scene. Um, top to bottom, Stephen was getting his butt kicked from the beginning to end, and kicking butt from the beginning to the end of the episode. Not easy to shoot. I know from doing that on Shadowhunters. And it was one of those days. He stepped into the hair and makeup trailer for something else, stopped everything, jumped out of his chair, came over, said 'hello' to me, really made sure I felt welcome. And that's been sort of the best example of my entire experience on Arrow. And it's such a nice thing to be the new kid but feel like I belong." -- When asked how old her character Maya is, compared to the other characters in the Arrow flashforwards, KM: "So I've been told that I'm - I think, between - they haven't told me an exact age. I know I'm between 19 and like 23, I think. So I don't know where exactly I fall. But I know I'm playing my age now, which is awesome. (Laughs) Someone who's been playing 18 for the last four years, it's really awesome to play my own age." Edited January 9, 2019 by tv echo 2 Link to comment
tv echo January 9, 2019 Share January 9, 2019 (edited) ^^^ Additional transcription from KM's Popcorn Talk "I Could Never Be" interview above... -- After she found out that Shadowhunters was being cancelled, KM was concerned that she wouldn't get another acting job. KM: "I had been gone for almost four years from L.A. I didn't think that anyone was going to remember me or know who the hell I was or even care. And I get back to L.A. and Arrow was the second audition that I went on and I ended up booking it. ... It was the second audition I booked so very quickly. I went, 'oh, thank God, at least I have another job, at least I have work for a little bit.'" Spoiler -- KM: "And with Arrow, it's, oh, now, I'm playing an actual badass who's really quite, um, a hard core human being in every sense of the word. Um, which is - you know, I'm a very bubbly, bright person and she is not. So, you know, you have to find that part of yourself." Edited January 9, 2019 by tv echo Link to comment

tv echo January 14, 2019 Share January 14, 2019 (edited) MG did this podcast interview back on Nov. 13, 2018, but it was only posted yesterday (go to link to listen to audio recording)... Person Place Thing with Randy Cohen: Episode 241: Marc Guggenheim Posted on January 13, 2019 by RANDY COHENhttps://personplacething.org/episode-241-marc-guggenheim/ -- MG first talked at length about his love for Billy Joel songs: “There’s no scientific or rational explanation for it." -- He first used a Billy Joel song on Eli Stone. Most recently, he had the villain attack a Billy Joel concert on Arrow last year. -- MG said that he "had a lot to overcome to win over his wife [Tara Butters]" and that his Billy Joel "fixation" helped him because it showed her that he was capable of "that level of devotion." -- 101 Federal Street (in Boston, MA) is where MG used to practice law. He was a commercial litigator, "mainly companies suing other companies." He was practicing at Hutchins Wheeler & Dittmar, which, "at the time, was the oldest law firm in Boston." Per MG, that law firm "went under about a year after I left... you can draw your own conclusion." -- MG said that his last day at the law firm was a "revolving door" of lawyers coming in and saying they wished they could do what he was doing but they had families to support and bills to pay. -- MG then gave his cynical opinion on litigation success (size of "war chest", how much money each side had to spend). He would not encourage people to go into law. After Randy praised defense attorneys, especially public defenders, because they seem to be happier because they get to "live their values," MG said that he has "an incredibly high regard for defense attorneys" and wished he'd had the guts to become a defense attorney. -- MG thought that having experience in the world before becoming a writer, and his legal background, made him a better writer. He said that he didn't go to film school, but hopefully made up that lack by just having dealt with people in the real world. He also said that he's a "big believer in people going to law school," but he's "not a big believer in people practicing law." He said that law school is "great" and "fantastic" because "you're learning how to think differently... [law school] changes the way you analyze problems, analyze situations... I can't think of another academic pursuit that does that in quite so direct a way." Also MG: "If you're not going to go to film school, definitely go to law school." -- MG then talked about how you can take a blank sketch book to comic cons and ask artists there to do sketches for you (sometimes for free, sometimes for a fee). He has a collection of sketches from about 14 years of doing this. He initially asked artists to do sketches of comic book characters that he'd written for. But then he started asking artists to draw whatever they wanted to draw. -- MG said that he "always treats his comic book scripts like... personal letters to the artist." Unlike a teleplay or screenplay that's disseminated to cast and crew, the only person who really needs the comic book script is the artist. He said that he thinks "comic books are a visual medium" and he does consider them "to be an artists' medium." However, he acknowledged that this "writers versus artists" issue was a "highly contested and debated thing... 'Hey, if not for the writer, there would be no comic book' ... There is no comic book without the artist." Edited January 14, 2019 by tv echo Link to comment
