  2. Oh Julian Fellowes. Is it realistic to think a company in the 1880s/90s would pay the equivalent of 20 million to buy a patent? Higjly doubtful but totally Fellowee with his magical storylines. And I nearly lol when the camera dramtically swept up to the cabin windows of the ship during the wedding night. It takes just lay back and think of England to a new level. And it seems like now that Gladys us shipped off to the UK, Bertha will go back to her scheming and plotting. But it would seem that reality in that kind if situation would be for Bertha to follow and help Gladys adjust, staying a few months, while reveling in her new status. I am team Monica and her ugly dress. Gladys wedding gown was gorgeous. Bridesmaid dresses were beautiful. The men all looked great. You know who didnt? Bertha! Her MOB dress was a huge letdown and was giving me dressing gown vibes.
  3. I didn't know that about you, many hugs. I can imagine how this looks from your perspective, although it's bad from anyone's perspective. I keep hoping that this ridiculous plot is setting us up for some kind of denouement that shocks Carrie back into reality and she admits her denial of her feelings for Big and how getting back with Aidan was part of her avoidance of facing them. Because there's no way any of this makes any sense or does right by anyone unless it's leading up to that.
  4. So glad Leonard finally told someone about his father. And not just that he died, but that even in death his father rejected him, specifically not allowing him to come to the funeral, that was most hurtful. I was glad Alphy was at least sad that Leonard didn't feel he could talk to any of them. Loved Leonard finally asking for help and saying that he loves Mrs. C. I didn't really get the reason for killing the guard but it served the purpose of Leonard finally opening up. Alphy, please just read the letter. Geordie came so close. Soon his son won't care and it will be too late.
  5. Hey, you are pretty darn ‘absolutist’ yourself. The left, far left, pacifists, people in different countries, all of them do not form a solid front or believe the same things. Also you usually sound as if you are laying down the absolute truth. i think Palestine has my sympathies because so many people are being hurt, losing their lives and future and families, starving and traumatized. people do not have to be perfect to be on the ‘right’ side. That is likely the point. Time and resources taken from the groups stated goals is well put. I was in Toronto for some of it and knew some of the people you are talking about. Of course your point of view is valid and it is worth discussing. I guess you aren’t possibly discussing it with the people you grew up near who would resonate with your experiences?
  6. I totally agree. If I feel like what I'm saying isn't reaching a receptive audience instead of staying silent or raising my voice I just see myself out. Life is too short to waste my time with people who don't care what I have to say.
  7. They DEFINITELY changed the story.
  8. I love that Ashley won veto. Fantastic! And this is not relevant to anything but my sister said Rylie looks like the sloth from Ice Age and now that's literally all I can see when I look at him lol.
  9. So few comments here...the reunion dress should have taken up this board alone! Glam squad drama is usually when one of the Glam squad talks to podcasters or posts on social media items about the women, this time we get women fighting over glam squads that are seriously not good at their jobs, the women look horrible. The little bit of the reunion that I watched Cynthia was silent, like sitting there watching along with the rest of us, I like her and over the years watched her make mistakes picking men to marry, watched her various birthday parties, etc...she is just a bit bland but gets extra credit for wearing a decent dress. As far as Porsha keeping that enormous house is ridiculous, the upkeep is not worth the money, can she sell it and buy something that won't drain her bank account? I just do not like Phaedra, I do not like anything about her and never have.
  10. I am so frustrated that I can’t just watch it all. The second half of the season looks just as good as the first.
  11. Another meh episode for this late in the competition. Good points: Lowra didn't make it into the immunity challenge. Lowra didn't have a meltdown. Bad points: Still had 25 minutes too much Lowra content, especially considering she didn't even make one of the better dishes. A mystery box involving garlic and a random herb? FFS, even I could make something reasonable tasting with those two things! 😂 The continuing lack of screen time for those contestants who will very likely to be next to go i.e. Ben and Depinder :( And I think that's literally all I have to say!
  12. CountryGirl

    Tennis Thread

So was this meant for Sabalenka or Djoker? Although I kind of answered this for myself with "Both?"😂
  13. It really depends on the group. And if you are being "silenced" by a particular group, then it is a good idea to take a step back and evaluate. Not all groups are for everyone. It could be that your personal experience does not match that group's goals, and every time you open your mouth you are taking away time and resources from the group's stated goals.
  14. Reverend Forte was the minister of the church Ada and Agnes have long attended, so I assume they continue to attend services there. I think the writers are using the Temperance movement to show Ada grasping onto a women's movement that was gaining popularity at the time. The connection with her husband is indeed near zero but I guess for Ada it falls under the umbrella of "good works" in general. She's been pulled in by a charismatic speaker/leader of the movement and has become a fervent believer. Haven't watched the latest episode yet and I'm interested to see how she will behave basically the same way when she meets the spiritualist. Ultimately we may see her tone down her enthusiasm for these "movements".
  15. Ugh, I know. It drives me insane when they just leave water running while they brush their teeth or wash their face or poop. No, she said she was 32. Adrian is 23 so I guess 32 seems old to him lol. I already hate Vince. I wanted to like him but he's giving asshole while pretending to be this super nice guy. I was rolling over how the shower was an hour then an hour and 1/2 then 2 hours then 70 hours (tm Rylie). This is the kind of thing I wish we could have seen on the feeds. Mostly because it's fun and funny but also because then we might have a better idea of how long it actually was. I do think it's rude and it proves Ashley is self-absorbed but I don't really see why anyone gives a shit. Honestly, that kind of person is good to keep in the game. But most of them didn't actually care, they just didn't want to get nominated so they just piled on to set the target on someone that wasn't them. Katherine though seems like she might have just decided for some reason that she didn't like Ashley and therefore took it way too seriously. I wanted to like Katherine but I think she's probably going to suck. I feel like Jimmy could be a really fun villain type or become really awful and annoying. All in all, I thought this episode really sucked and I'm worried for this season lol. I haven't watched the feeds yet though. Hopefully they're better.
  16. That has never been my experience. All I see is privileged people being heard.
  17. Apparently 3 of the books were used for this show. The Desert Star had 2 cases only one of which (the Councilman's sister) was covered in this show - so not sure why they didn't cover both instead of taking a couple of cases from other books unless they thought that would be too much Bosch. It's been quite awhile since I read the book but I thought the murderer was someone else so I don't know if my memory is bad or the show changed the story. I did like the show. It certainly kept my interest. I don't get why they arrested Ballard - seems lilke no police work was done. Wouldn't the first thought be that it was someone in the cartel? Olivas was certainly a sleezy character.
  18. Lord, I cannot watch "Boss Baby" clomping around pretending to be everyone's boss. Your "job" is to do ball work on your husband's, (Mr. Shoma) "old balls" ™️Adam Sandler. I hope when Mr. Shoma trades up for a new boss baby to do ball work that we can keep him. He seems sweet, and he rescues dogs.
  19. It's also insulting to viewers. During the initial run of SATC I wanted Carrie and Big together. As I got older and after many rewatches I realized they did not have the most healthy relationship but it was what it was and at the end of the second movie they seemed to be happy and in a good place. And during the first episode of AJLT they also appeared to be happy. And then he died. And we watched the rest of the first season Carrie mourn and be devastated by his death. And now we are supposed to believe that was what? An act for her friends? She did it for sympathy? I've said before I am a widow. I lost my husband in my forties. He died after an illness so it wasn't sudden like Big but it still devastated me. And I didn't have millions of dollars to comfort me. Carrie is allowed to move on. But she doesn't have to cast her marriage aside in order to do that. And does Carrie think she is the great love of Aidan's life? Was his marriage to Kathy just a rebound from her? Did he have kids with her to just pass the time till Carrie was available again? I feel like the writers are hellbent on alienating viewers. They did with Che and Miranda and the rewriting of her relationship with Steve. And now with Carrie. A better story would have been Carrie feeling like loving Aidan again and maybe that would be discounting her love for Big. Miranda and Charlotte could have assured her that was not the case. But instead we are seeing her loving Aidan, not again, but never stopped, and she is discounting her marriage to Big.
  20. The left and far left are becoming increasingly absolutist (something i thought they were supposed to be against). The Australian Greens are continuing with their Free Palestine stuff again, by the way. Mehreen Faruqi grew up in West Pakistan, firmly molded by its societal and cultural beliefs (which continue to linger there today with regard to their views and approach to the now-Bangladesh). She has no credibility in her claims about opposing apartheid regimes, the oppression of an indigenous majority or opposing genocidal states. None of which she did as a child and youth in an actual one. https://greens.org.au/news/media-release/anthony-albanese-should-get-serious-about-tackling-all-racism
  21. I was told by a diversity group commenter back when DEI was at its height that I was “centering” (her word) and that my views don’t really matter (I was talking about language challenges in immigrant communities as well as immigrant/child of immigrant experiences growing up in suburban Toronto in the 80s and 90s. She seemed to think that the yuppie lifestyle my parents had was an exception for Asians rather than something fairly common for my circle. As in I wasn’t the only Asian kid in my class and that we were all more or less kids of white collar professionals).
  22. I haven't seen the episode, so I don't know if any of this was mentioned. This is what ATK has to say about Hong Kong Wonton Soup on their website. They cite the cookbook source of the recipe.
  23. Does Larry know that Agnes (or rather, Oscar) lost most of her family fortune, though? While it was clear to the subscription societies that Agnes was no longer paying, I can't recall if it was common knowledge. Regardless, kind of a tacky comment from Larry. How would he even have the information on the size of their fortunes? Sounds like a comment from Fellowes to let the audience know. That the Russells would be worth billions at their peak doesn't surprise me. Rather, that $10 million (today's dollars) would be enough to be considered very rich in that world.
  24. Sad to say, in addition to the lineage beauty is the only things Marian has to "sell". It's not called "a marriage market" for nothing.
  25. I’s assume this qualifies as there being still a few bugs in the system and what you mean by silenced. You seem fairly vocal and are on a lot of groups and you’ve said silenced a lot. What do you mean bu silenced? Serious question.
