Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

I know they claim it’s “all natural” but who’s checking, really? And ephedrine was originally derived from plants. Ergo, “natural.” I checked and  Plexus is not reviewed by the FDA. Who knows what’s in it.

Yes, the good old "all natural" so it must be okay theory.  Cyanide is also "natural."  I don't think it's a good idea to take it tho.

That's the entire reason his parents operate the way they do--to keep their children dependent and under their control. I met people who had pretty sheltered and controlled childhoods at a Christian college. And even though that wasn't the greatest place to spread your wings, a lot of them really benefited just from being away from their parents and being exposed to other ideas/other people. Tim's best chance was where he was--away from his family at school.

I just can't wrap my mind around wanting to raise an army of zombies, when Jill and Shrek know full well that when they go off to that great Plexus castle in the sky, their offspring will be left to wander in a daze wondering what to do, how to get a job, how to keep the lights on, etc.  That's not love, that's abuse.  So much squashed potential in the kids of these nutcases.

I agree. It seems like the moment Tim found slivers of independence and happiness, Jill swooped in to blow it all to shit. Now he's failed out of two colleges, failed at starting a business and is living in an RV. I imagine his self-esteem is in the gutter, right where Mommy Dearest wants it.

Omg, I hate that crazy bitch with a burning passion.  She is singlehandedly ruining 13 lives.  I say singlehandedly because I think Shrek is a spineless slug who only does whatever his lunatic of a wife tells him to do.  I think we all know who runs the show.

Almost makes one wonder whether Shrek is just as browbeaten and afraid not to produce whatever Jill demands - from rebuilding a barn to her rabbit-warren standards to producing more children. It might be that he eats his feelings, zombie-like, through whatever Jill puts in front of him, while she beams in self-satisfied delight at being such a godly wife who puts her husband second only to God. The heck with the kids.

But...but...she's supposed to be subject to her husband! The don't-work verse said so!!
Oh...but the same verse also said she needed to be sensible and kind, didn't it?

I would imagine that in the limited universe in which Jill and her family exist, there have been more than a few discreet whispers about keeping daughters away from the Rod boys.  Sure, they can "fellowship" and put up with the screeching in the name of Jesus, but that's the extent of their acceptance.  I highly doubt anyone wants their daughter to marry into that mess.

I'm not sure I would paint David as a victim. Sure he could be, but I'm not sure that's what's going on. Jill may run the show, but he may have no problem and he's happy with it. That makes him complicit. We don't know what really goes on in that house. We don't really know what he's like because Jill is the one on SM.

That wasn’t my first thought, although it should have been.  That is terrifying.  It’s a disaster waiting to happen.

My first thought was that they finally let Janessa stand on her own for a picture. Then I realized that the toddler-sized child was 5 1/2 year old Sophia  and Janessa is being held by (and Kaylee) in her coat the way you would hold a baby in one of those snuggle carriers (or whatever they are called).

Funny how all these patriarchal religions make it nearly impossible for all but a few men to have any real success.

Once you're a patriarch, you apparently can't rest until you're sure you'll be the only patriarch.

To varying degrees, they're all like those little groups of polygamous old men who run the young men out of town so they can keep all the girls for themselves.

He's close enough to the GoJo factory up in Cuyahoga Falls.  GoJo is having a banner year making Purell and other cleaners.  He could also get a cheap apartment in Akron if the commute is too long.

GOJO has a distribution warehouse in Wooster. They've got three shifts to fill and are busy, too. Less money than the manufacturing plant probably, but an easy commute so he could keep living in the RV. They probably have jobs he's capable of -- and the more experience he gets working for other people the better it'll be for his resume and his common sense, long term. (not that his parents believe or want that, of course)

Amen. You have to get away. The surveillance and various forms of intimidation and guilting when you're there kill your initiative and of course eliminate outside influences. Any place "away" is better. Even an awful job that you get away to for eight hours a day. A cloistered convent would be a more open environment than the home of a super-controller like Jill.

well Timbits' response defending the self review of his own business states his goal.  "I am sure you probably would have done the same thing if you were working your but off to become totally self employed"  and yes he spelled butt with only one t.

tim doesn't want to work at any available job or though he is 20, mama is not allowing him to do so.

timbits may be getting licensed and insured, but since he only accepts cash, how did he pay the fees there. His godly business is avoiding paying taxes at the very least. probably timbits/the godly handman business has no bank acct either and he hands the cash over to mama to write the check.

The convent would probably be more fun too.

Besides being control freaks, JillRod and JimBob don't see any of their kids as adults. To them the kids are still 12-15 and they treat them accordingly. They don't teach their children any adulting skills because they don't believe they'll ever be adults. And since the kids don't have the skills to be independent adults they remain attached to their parents who are vindicated.

The real sin Jill committed was marrying a guy who matured into a man and forced/encouraged her to cut the cord. Nathan has seemingly done the same with Nurie, but she doesn't have a social media platform to document any changes she making.

When the Rod boys are in their forties and fifties, they will find themselves in the barndo with the designated unmarried sister(s) and Janessa, still the baby after all these years. Shrek expired when his gut exploded from his daily diet of quarter of a whole half cow, mashed potatoes with fake cheese sauce, beige glob, and hummingbird sugar water. The unmarried sons are emotionally shackled to their crazy mother, whose continuing mental decline just adds to her meanness and demands for hourly dusting of the tchotchkes. Jill's head started a 360-degree spin about fifteen years earlier, frightening away any potential brides. Plexus was discovered to be made from toxic waste and banned, but Jill, long an addict, makes her sons get her bootlegged jugs of it. Gabriel is trying to run the printing business, but no one in the house is capable of proofreading a simple sentence. Janessa occasionally drinks the printing ink because it reminds her of Mama's milk and the e-coli-infested bathroom chair. Gutter Cleaning for Jesus was doing OK until Tim, still waiting for his insurance and license to come in the mail, fell off a roof and became SEVERELY quadriplegic like his Aunt Amy Foster. The Dinguii and their remaining cow and chicken moved away in the middle of the night. The Church of the Giant Neon Sign packed up and left town one weekend when Jill screamed and breathed fire at the congregation for being nice to a gay couple. Jill's sister, the author of Serena's Serenity, is thinking about using the Rods as source material for her second best seller.

Accurate.

I am not so sure they even see them in that way. for JB and Meech the kids have always been a bragging rights things. an attention getting look at us, look at us, we have 19 kids. Jb told strangers that on camera in other cities and countries.

I believe it is the same for JillR. first thing on the family blog is nothing about Jesus it is the 13 kids

they can't let the kids grow up because they lose the one thing that they most brag about - the entire brand they have worked so hard to market

When was the last time we saw someone like Kate next to a photo of Jill and two of the Plaths? I can't stop staring at this screenshot based on my incredulity!

NEVER in my life did I think I'd ever see Kate next to Jill or a Plath family member. I'd pay good money to see Jill try and convert the Cambridges! I wonder if she knows George is just a wee bit older than Sophia? "So, you're saying there's a chance?" hahahahahahahahahaha!

@iwantcookies, this isn't snarking on you or your IG habits.

Jill needs to go read Proverbs 31 and re-read Titus 2.  Oh who am I kidding, her ability to actually comprehend stuff is at about a -2

She quoted Proverbs 31 in today's Make Your Life Count minute. She was prattling on about selling Plexus when she got cut off. Good times. 😁

You'd think once their kids start popping out babies like Pez dispensers, JB would perhaps start to worry about how his kids are going to support their own broods, but I guess if kids are only for bragging rights then the grandbabies are just more evidence of JB's manly chest-thumping patriarchy.

I think it’s worse than that...they think babies are God’s merit badges. The more you get the more God likes you better than other people.

Hence the bragging. And the palpable neglect of children once they stop being infants.

Those children look unwell. They remind me of a commercial for St. Jude’s or Shriners Hospital. Can James’s even walk?

Tim is working. Does he ever buy food and give it to his brothers and sisters on the sly? Maybe he does, and that's why he's on Jill's shit list.

The lowest level math they had at Moody was Algebra. I doubt he passed it. I wonder what courses he took at Fox Valley; they likely offered the remedial coursework Timmy needed. But would Tim have it in him to talk with a counselor and chart a reasonable path of courses suited to his academic level?

I also wonder what class he was taking that caused some other students to show him porn (according to Jill)?

Biology  ?

I could see that. If she caught him buying and sneaking food to his siblings, she'd be furious, taking it as an implied criticism of her parenting. Although he may not have any money at his disposal at all. I wouldn't put it past Jill to demand that he turn over every cent he earns and then spend it all on herself.
