Popular Post ams1001 January 12, 2022 Popular Post Share January 12, 2022 Janelle is adorable. Her mom's a *****. Bus from Philly to Boston, according to Google, takes 7+ hours, not five. Nicky: "You have great hair." Miguel: "You, too." Of course their road trip turns into a lecture/philosophy salon/marriage therapy and now Rebecca and Sally are best friends. "I've known him longer than I've known you." You met 50 years ago, spent a little time together, haven't seen each other since, and didn't recognize him when he showed up on your doorstep. Not sure that counts as "knowing him" longer than the man you've been married to for years. Nicky flirting with the flight attendant. 😎 (Maybe he missed her because she still works and was on a trip?) 28 Link to comment
Popular Post DoubleUTeeEff January 12, 2022 Popular Post Share January 12, 2022 I don't mind that Nicky found someone different than Sally, but I did get invested in her so I hope she finds happiness with or without her current husband. As someone who is letting her hair grow in gray, fuck you, Rebecca. I'm not judging you for dyeing your hair at age 71 so you can shut it about other people being happy being gray. I bet Bernadette wouldn't stop salsa dancing over one little condescending reaction from a stranger. I did like that Miguel made up a story about the bird brooch and that Rebecca knew him so well that she immediately knew that he made it up. She is very lucky to have him even though she did have to put up with Jack first. I also liked that while Rebecca and Nicky dumped their issues on Sally and her husband, they turned around and dumped all their own marital issues right back at them. I kind of thought Sally was perfect for Nicky in that moment. Nicky's line delivery of "I'm an alcoholic" and "I'm going to go before I throw up" were hilarious. Speaking of throwing up, there wasn't too much awkward first time with Deja and Malik this episode which was a relief. Did Malik know that Deja lied to come see him? He must have, right? There's no way Randall would knowingly let that happen. 25 Link to comment
KaveDweller January 12, 2022 Share January 12, 2022 I felt so bad for Nicky when it seemed like Sally didn't remember him. I am not sure why, but I always feel so sad for Nicky. But I guess it ended nicely for him, and he was able to move on. It's great for him to finally have some happiness and it is much more realistic than if he ended up married to Sally. That dinner was awkward I could barely watch. I don't really care about Malik and Deja. I mean they are not unlikable, but not super interesting. I don't like episodes that don't have all of the big three. 18 Link to comment
Crs97 January 12, 2022 Share January 12, 2022 I didn’t find Nicky’s behavior on the plane to be flirty and cute. Given all the crap flight attendants seem to have to deal with these days, that scene seemed a little tone deaf. Finally we got a little bit of Rebecca and Miguel. Finally. That dinner was all kinds of hilarious, and ending it with the husband asking “bourbon” and Miguel’s resigned “yes he is” to Nicky’s statement that he’s an alcoholic was just the right note. Answering “life changing” to Randall’s question . . . I guess she wants him to know they had sex. I was surprised he didn’t immediately call her. ETA: Wait, did I miss that Randall didn’t know she was meeting up with Malik? I admit I didn’t pay close attention to that storyline. 21 Link to comment
Popular Post Blakeston January 12, 2022 Popular Post Share January 12, 2022 I wasn't expecting much from this episode, but I ended up loving it. He’s so childlike….plus, he has a child…that and other factors make that a turnoff for me. With the right actors, it might have worked better. I think I’m always surprised when a woman, especially one over 50, is so peculiar about not showing her neck, always wearing lipstick, covering her grey hair…..it amazes me that mature adults feel that way. Lol. I like to look nice, but to be so focused on appearance….I’m glad I’m not like that. I loved the big 3 not being around this week. Awesome. It’s amazing that Rebecca still has so much insight into her condition. Most people that I know with that kind of condition aren’t. People should do what makes them feel good; makeup and hair dye isn’t only for the young. I liked Sally and it was a good episode for Miguel and Rebecca. I agree that Nicky seems different at different times. I don’t think he needed to immediately meet Edie and most flight attendants aren’t charmed by non compliant passengers. Malik looks like he is no older than 14 so it’s hard to see him as a romantic interest for Deja. I did feel bad for him having so many responsibilities in college. 28 Link to comment

chocolatine January 12, 2022 Share January 12, 2022 (edited) When did Jeffrey Nordling become "old?" I thought he's in his 50s. Last time I saw him on a show a few years ago (Big Little Lies), his character was married to Laura Dern's character. At first I thought Sally married her husband later in life and he was a lot younger than her, but then she said something about them meeting when they were both young. The dinner was so cringeworthy, but I loved how Sally and her husband just rolled with it. I was surprised to see Malik living in such a shabby apartment, I thought he got a full ride with campus housing? Still not buying him as Harvard material, he just doesn't seem particularly smart or eloquent. This was already too much Deja, and after Randall inevitably finds out that she lied to him, there will be even more Deja, ugh. She/the actress has no charisma whatsoever. Nice to finally get some details on Miguel and Rebecca's backstory, but I feel shortchanged that it was just told and not shown. It's like Fogelman et al. wanted to show us that they read the comments, but couldn't be bothered to shoot some flashback scenes. Also like everyone else has said Malik looks like he’s 12 so itvs awkward. Were they in a club at one point? How? Good for Nicky finding love but I feel like there’s no time for a new character so I hope they don’t spend too much time on them. Nicky gets too flustered to buy a camera but he just flirts with the flight attendant like a pro. Ok sure show lol. Barely any Randall so that was nice. Kevin used to say too much to fans, so they might have cut him off. lol I loved mature storyline this week and not the tripe with the twins and garage etc Kevin isn't 20 or 30, he's grown and maybe needs some time or counselor to let go of his expectations. Starting from Nicky stating that Sally took his virginity, to Sally's husband stating she's deflowered most of the midwest (?), etc etc etc. I am happy that Nicky found someone and it wasn't Sally but he put the idea of Sally to rest. Malik to me looks like he's 15. I don't know why. Is he suppose to be playing 21 year old? It's because older women are invisible in society. When the hair is grey, they're considered old hags, unlike grey haired men who are called silver foxes. Again can make the complexion more sallow so they add some colour with lipstick. It's not about being focused on appearance; it's about wanting to be seen. I don't understand the hate for Jack. He's an integral part of Rebecca's life, as well as the three kids. Her memories are going to include him. I do agree that I'd like to see how Rebecca and Miguel got together, how they went from friends to lovers and got past the notion of "betraying Jack", which would be a common thought. 40 Link to comment

Good Queen Jane January 12, 2022 Share January 12, 2022 (edited) To correct where I watched it, it was on the NBC app. I have too many streaming services. But it definitely said Yellow Brick Road as the title. Maybe Sir Elton objected. Edited January 12, 2022 by Good Queen Jane 2 Link to comment

Malik should definitely know better. Unless I missed it because I could not care any less about these two characters, but I don't recall any dialogue about Malik already picked up condoms or Deja already being on the pill. That bothered me too. I hope they don’t go down the road of Deja pregnant, although it would be more plausible than the usual TV trope of the medical doctor who not only doesn’t think to use contraception but then doesn’t figure out she’s pregnant until she starts fainting or throwing up (I’m looking at you, Grey’s Anatomy, among others). Add me to the chorus that doesn’t like the Deja/Malik storyline and who is disturbed by young he looks. The fact that the actress who plays Deja has matured into a rather beautiful young woman, as opposed to girl, makes it more uncomfortable. I found the scene with Rebecca’s seeing her reflection in the car mirror quite poignant. I think it’s a common experience for women of a certain age (probably men, too, but I can’t speak for their experience), to be sailing along, feeling young and carefree suddenly seeing one’s reflection and thinking “who’s that old woman in the mirror?”. I found it quite touching and relatable. 27 Link to comment

They both arrived before Deja and Annie. 1 minute ago, Trillian said: Add me to the chorus that doesn’t like the Deja/Malik storyline and who is disturbed by young he looks. What's funny is that I believe the actor playing Malik is actually a few years older than the actress who plays Deja. 4 Link to comment
