I agree. This is the best housewives cast ever put together.

It's like we're constantly watching seven feuding sisters at a family reunion.

Carole is the oldest sister who left her hometown, went to college, got an important job,  so she thinks she's better than her sisters.

Ramona is the sister who married (shotgun style) the high school quarterback whose family owns a successful supermarket chain and so  thinks she's better than her sisters.

Luann is the parents' favorite because she presents well, got good grades, and married the "safe" boyfriend. She's also fucked all of her sisters' men at some point and so, because of this glorious feat, she thinks she's better than her sisters.

Sonja is the sister who peaked in high school in every way possible. She's now living back in the parents' house and acting as their caretaker. She knows she's getting the family house and 1998 Ford Explorer in the will, and so thinks she better than her sisters.

Tinsley is the baby of the family. Although she's immature, she's mostly harmless. Everyone works to not upset her because they don't want to deal with fall out. Since everyone is nice to her 24/7, she thinks she's better than her sisters.

Bethenny was adopted at age 4. She refuses to ask for or take anyone's advice or help. She spends most her time on her phone because fuck you Carole she's got an important job too! She doesn't share DNA with any of these wackos, so she thinks she's better than her sisters

Dorinda is the problem child. She no longer remembers how many times she's been arrested and is always begging for bail money. Even though she is always in trouble and no one can stand her, she, unlike the others, is always supportive and comes through for her family, so she thinks she's better than her sisters.

AMAZING....You win the internet today!  :-)

Intent is an important consideration.

It does. However in discrimination litigation, courts look at whether the law, policy, or action was intended to treat people differently or accidentally treats people differently. Both are problematic. The latter speaks to institutional biases and ignorance. That's the problem with what Luann did.  She's comfortable enough in her privilege to not even ponder or consider if her costume was ok. That's how she can drop the fact that the Count wouldn't like her dating Jacques because Jacques is Jewish and then laugh. That shit isn't funny.

In a non-Luann example, Dorinda handing her coat to the Black guy in the restaurant because she assumed he worked there or her dropping her change into the coffee cup of the guy in the wheelchair. Once again, ignorance, obviousness, and entitlement.

Oh you're so right about Ramona. There are so many accurate things she could go after w Ramona antics for a food true insult (starting with that boob job!).  But not being accomplished isn't one of them. Ramonas swiftly offered benjamins helped in PR and TX. How quickly Bethenny forgets.

I'm not entertaining colonizer bullshit.  "Ignore" is real and a wonderful respite.

Last night's ep was fantastic (except for fucking Luann) and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. Their new taglines are good.

I wonder now if Lu's marrying Tom so quickly was about proving something to the Count versus her really being in love. I'm curious, but after that ridiculous costume I could care less about her embarrassment or "broken heart". I will look forward to every embarrassing moment she has to endure this season. Really Lu, you wonder why Carole didn't call you? Please stop. I spit out my wine when she said she didn't get around to changing her name. Bitch! You weren't married long enough to change your name.

I'm over Sonja. Is she still in her townhouse? What's the difference between Rocco and John? I can barely tell them apart.

Did Carole and Bethany fall out because Carole has her own mind and can't be pushed around? Carole had better watch out or she'll join her friend Heather.

Drunk or not I love Dorinda. She's a fairly harmless drunk so I don't mind her. It's the rest of these women who can't handle their alcohol *ahem* Sonja/Ramona/Tinsley

It appears Ramona had her face corrected. It looks less pinched and unnatural. Luann's actually is obvious for the first time. In her scene with Dorinda she looked unnaturally smooth.

The season Jules was on, Sonja threw a dinner party at The Crumbling Casa - she served dinner with embroidered pillowcases she claimed were dinner napkins.

The surprise guest "Rocco" was invited by Dorinda in her attempt to play matchmaker for Sonja. Sonja and Rocco giggled and said they already knew each other.

So why at the Halloween party wouldn't Rocco go up to greet Dorinda the hostess since he already knew her?

Side question: what was the purpose of the bounty towels sticking out the side of Sonja's head? Are they put there so that the makeup being applied doesn't get on the wig? Why didn't she pull them out and toss them in the trash? Did she tuck them up into her wig so that she could re-purpose them at a later date?

@SCS I never said Luann should be sued. No, it's just an example of why looking just at someone's intent isn't always a governing factor about the harm they cause and discuss why they might have caused harm. Just like the Dorinda examples demonstrate her entitlement, privilege, and ignorance. I'm perfectly entitled to discuss to discuss LuAnn's ignorance and privilege if I want to.

I know you didn't and I didn't say you did but you brought up discrimination litigation and how the courts look at whether the law, policy, or action are intended to treat people differently or accidentally treat people differently. And I am saying that discrimination litigation and how the courts look at whether the law, policy, or action etc etc  don't really have anything to do with Luann's ongoing idiotic behaviors since, frankly, I don't believe Lu or her comments about Jacques or her actions in hi-def bronzer have any real power. Luann de Lesseps? I don't think the world at large gives a shit about Luann de Lesseps and pays her attention other than shake their heads and chuckle. My opinion.

Just stopped by to say I am glad NY is back on.  I have pretty much given up on all the other HW shows.

Luann and her costume, was that almost black face?  What the hell between the skin color and the stupid wig it was very off putting.

  • I like Rocco.
  • I love Dorinda.
  • I like Carole's hair color.

See you all next week.

And....what?  I mean this nicely and it is of course only my opinion but unless someone on the show has been brought up on charges discrimination litigation, the courts  and law policy and so on are completely irrelevant. I'd wager 95% of viewers watch this stuff for house and clothes and vacation porn but also to chuckle because of the ways these women behave with their institutional biases and ignorance. If law and policy were germane to these shows Ramona and Tamra and Teresa G and Danielle and the nasty loud little bitch from Miami who punched a cast mate and LeeAnn from Texas who seems borderline psychotic and Nene and Porsha and -- did I miss anyone-- would all have been brought up on assault charges. Compared to some of this stuff sundry HWs shows have aired, Lu's behavior tells us only that she's an asshole. Surprise. Who knew? It's just not that deep.

Isn't that part of the show's purpose -- to let us enjoy these dames and their privilege and their ridiculous, sometimes delusional self-importance?

I thank you.

No. Ramona didn't want to go all the way to Quogue in summer traffic for the horse riding. BETHENNY and Carole insulted Jules for living in the wrong part of the Hamptons. Different.

Sonja was the one that turned up her nose at living in Quogue. She was insulting and embarrassing to the host while she was a guest in her house in Quogue. For someone with such financial difficulties Sonja is quite the snob.

I don't find the things Hunter listed -- Luann's cozy comfort with the Count's anti-semitism,  Dorinda reflexively handing her coat to a black man in a restaurant  -- enjoyable to watch. I find that shit appalling.

Enjoyable to me: trying to figure out last night what Sonja's inch of belly display reminded me of, and finally realizing it's this:

Sidebar I love that KKB has made a real career in Real Estate.  It's a regular employment and she's out there hustling.  I would really like to see her back on the show and I think she's a lot smarter than anyone ever gave her credit for.

Let’s not get carried away. She had her first open house, less than a month ago. Lol. That does not quite make a career.

However, I wish her good luck in her new endeavor.

I can't speak for Ramona's affect on women other than I know she had a skin care line and jewelry line that actually existed, for more than 1 season! so Kadooz to her for that. Did she have those products before the show began? I came in a few seasons late.

But, a lot of these women (on RH shows, at least) that claim to take pride in "empowering women" use a lot of misogynist stereotypes and/or nudity to get their point across.  Isn't sexualization of women what feminists are trying to get past so we can be taken seriously as intellectual equals and not just looked at as sex objects? Between Erika Jayne claiming she empowers women, to the RIchards sisters offering makeovers to the homeless, Siggy Flicker bringing in cosmetic surgeons and make up artists to her seminars, and Beth thinking we want to see her in each of her eleventy billion bikinis or getting naked on vacation with the girls ...I must have misunderstood the whole movement or what "empowering women" actually means.

Let's not forget Bethenny costuming herself as Barbie.

I almost get the feeling that Kelly is going to be the social media presence for the brokerage house rather than the actual broker.  She might bring views to the properties.  The woman is always hustling for a gig.  She seems from photos to be back in her Police Building apartment, not uptown where she had supposedly moved.  Does anyone know?  She's also in the Hamptons most of the summer, even though she sold her gorgeous house.  Don't know who hosts her.

On the charity side, Kelly has been consistent in her work for the Food Bank since her days on the show.  Her daughters have volunteered there as well.

I can only champion and empower women if I'm nice to all of them including ones nasty to me? I can never say I don't like or agree with a woman's behavior? I guess I don't empower women because I can't stand a ton of them and if you fling s*%^ my way, I'm going to put rocks in it before I throw it back.

100% this. I loved the Bethenny takedown at the Brass Monkey where KKB simply called her out on her shit and her antics it took integrity and guts on Kelly's part to attempt it. And I was on it from day 1. Ramona attempted a takedown (mention it all! Spread eagle convo) in the Berkshires and I loved her for it. Keep going Ramona.  Bethenny telling Ramona to call her when she accomplished something was despicable.  Ramona made her own money and has raised a bright healthy daughter ! Empowering women? Ok Bethenny.

I love their dynamic. They just go at it and neither one backs down. I like both of them. When they fight I don't think oh poor Bethenny or oh poor Ramona.

However during this fight, being dressed as they were...all I thought of was this GIF and I busted out laughing

Normally I'd agree with you but with these people in this situation, I think it's helpful.  People in Beth's circle tend to compete with one another.  Saying how much someone gave goads others into giving as much, if not more, than that.   People in PR are still dying.   If being "tacky" saves lives, I'm not mad at her.

So far we have her just doing it for the red carpet opportunities, bragging about it on social media, etc.  Then the ROL story was brought up.  Apparently one of the Bravo crew was all whining about Bethenny being mean cuz the crew person was late because there was no cell service blah, blah.

Currently they still have no homes, no power, no jobs as a result of no power, no food.  People like Bethenny and Jose Andres are the only help they see.

I don't think folks should be derided for only writing checks.  Some people don't have money, and they give their labor.  Some people can't or don't give labor, and they give their money.  Some do both.

It's all good and it's all necessary.  There was plenty of social media presence for organizations collecting support for PR after the hurricane.  Almost all of them used the word "we" in their posts.

My point is, nobody bagged on her for her relief efforts. That I noticed anyway. I can't stand her, but I think what she did was outstanding. So nobody mentioned John asking Tinsley if she was a virgin. Of all the suspect things he's said, this has to be the most disgusting.

Since Tinsley's Madonna was from like "Like a Virgin" era, I took his comment as riffing on the song. But it was still skin-crawling of him.

I think most of the things these HWs attempt during the run of their shows fizzle out quickly (music careers, cannoli kits, hair care, books). Ramona's skin care, pinot, and jewelry enterprises all seemed relatively short-lived, but she had a successful business for a long time as a wholesale buyer, long before the show started. That's why B's "call me when you become successful at something" was not just nasty, but also inaccurate.

I agree. When I hear Bethenny do this w Ramona I hear Bethenny bantering with her mother and vice versa. Ramona has mothered Bethenny through the years with a firm maternal criticism as well as support  (thru the fibroids, hugging it out in the pool in Mexico, supporting her causes, "borrowing" dresses /clothes haha) I see a very maternal thing. Yup, and Bethenny has had her share of failures too.  Remember the shapewear?  One appearance on QVC and out with a zillion customer complaints re fit.  Same with her overpriced blender on QVC, one and done.   Same with most of the products she launched under the SkinnyGirl umbrella.  In fact if you look at her website now, no products are listed.  Its been that way for sometime.  She lucked out big with Beam/Suntory.

As for her real estate acumen, the first apartment (the one with Jason) sold immediately.   The second apartment did not.  It was for sale for months and months and was then rented.  Market has changed on the high end bracket.

I've seen her behave so inappropriately to her employees both on Instagram and on the show, I can never see her as someone who empowers females.  Latest was her ridiculous dance routine in the Hamptons with her "SkinnyGirl staff."  She was completely inappropriate herself, but then forced her employees to get up and "dance sexy."

Yes, she did great work for Puerto Rico.

I agree. I am kind of surprised at all the backlash at Luann's costume. Black face is exaggerated and mocking..literally painting one's face BLACK (A skin tone that does not even exist) with giant white eyes and lips.  It was done by Caucasians in a time where African-Americans were severely oppressed and completely disadvantaged by Caucasians, and there is absolutely no place for that reference anymore. But are we supposed to pretend there are no different skin tones? Why is making your skin slightly darker to emulate a beautiful, respected icon so disrespectful? Darker skin is lovely, as are all shades. Now, the ridiculously enormous Afro wig she chose flirts with stereotype and was cartoonish and could be considered mocking, I suppose.

Yes, even when Beth is being charitable and deserves to be lauded, her delivery is crass and devalues her efforts.

in addition, her trips were all documented by Bravo tv.

Also, That line she threw at Ramona last night was horrendous. Yes, Ramona is cray however she is also an accomplished woman.

And while, Beth is right, Ramona is not kind, let’s not pretend that B is mother Teresa, herself.

Those two are really rough and tough women who deserve each other!

Thank god for Dorinda, she made the episode watchable.

I agree with everything with the exception of Dorinda being a fairly harmless drunk.  She stabbed herself last year while drunk, she's been very aggressive with some of the others ladies while drunk.  She has fun drunk moments that we all have, but she can get to a sloppy, nasty, scary place and we've seen that several times on this show.

While I would like to believe Lu, this is clearly bullshit. In all the past ten years, she has never been that dark.

Yes. I have a 50" TV. Her face was noticeably darker than the rest of her, and it didn't just look like bronzer to me. I immediately said, "oh shit, the Countess is wearing black face." And it was offensive as hell.

I completely get what you are saying and I've asked myself that question.  I also think cultural appropriation outrage for the most part is ridiculous.    I get when it is done in a stereotypical, mocking fashion but we've gotten to the point now where putting on a Mexican hat on a Taco Tuesday is considered racist. However, I'm white so I feel like I don't exactly have the right to say what is offensive and what isn't offensive to other races who have endured a long legacy of oppression and racism and clearly there's still quite a bit that exists today.    In this era, it's better if you are white to ensure your costumes aren't culturally offensive even if that means your bronzer is offensive.
