Josiah and Lauren: He Has To Marry Somebody

Oh absolutely. From what I've seen of her, I dislike her immensely and would have no patience with her bullshit if I had to deal with her. In the context of the Duggar universe, however, she's the most entertaining to me. Her snarky comments to Josiah and his family when they do/say something ridiculous; her refusal to play along for the cameras when Josiah annoys her; her not giving a single fuck at how awkward and uncomfortable her in laws feel when she throws a tantrum. In a small way, I kind of feel about her behavior the way so many felt about teen Jinger's eye rolls. I'm not a whiner, but if I were dealing with the Duggars and the nonsense TLC wanted me to do, I know my face and my attitude would tell quite the story.

It's a bit "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Ah yes I can understand that. I've only ever watched 2 episodes, and one of them was the marriage counseling one in which she loudly proclaimed she was not feeling well, admitted she was fine but pissed at Josiah, and proceeded to languish on a couch with her back to everyone.

I was so appalled that a grown woman would act like that. Like, I couldn't even find at funny at a certain point because it was so childish. I can't remember if when that aired if she had already had her daughter or not, but I just felt bad for that kid and that's all I could think about, how awful it would be growing up with a parent who was that self-centered and histrionic.

I think I'd have more respect for her if she just said what she thought--"Fuck you, Duggars!"--rather than the passive-aggressive bullshit. She will never do that, though, because I think Lauren would like very much to be famous and would have no objection to anyone in the family if she got her way.

I’ve always liked Josiah, which may be why I feel so awful for him.  I couldn’t imagine having to live with that bitch for the rest of my life.  He has to be miserable.

I don't think Lauren's attitude is because of the Duggars. I think she'd pull that with anyone. Lauren looks for reasons to feel slighted or hurt. I think the only thing disappointing to her about the Duggars is they don't pay enough attention to her. She's just another DIL/SIL that gave birth to another baby. Duggarland does not pay attention to special diets, aches and pains or whatever else Lauren uses to aim the spotlight on her.

Lauren would only be happy if she married a singleton son and became the new "daughter". And even that happiness wouldn't last long.

Lauren can't compete with her sister-in-law Little Mary Sunshine (Kendra). She's pleasant and smiles a lot, and laughs at everyone's jokes, even if they aren't funny. She's everything Lauren isn't and the stark contrast is well...stark. Lauren's face just chases people away and people naturally gravitate to Kendra. She'll never be the favorite and she's not married to the favorite Duggar child. She could put forth some effort to be different but I think the discontent is bone deep.

I would rather have to deal with a Lauren than an Kendra though.  Kendra is going to bottle up everything and pretend she is fine when she really isn't, so you really will never know where you stand with her.  Deep down she may hate your guts, but on the surface she will be all rainbows and butterflies.  Lauren and I can come to an understanding where I call out her passive aggressive bullshit and she can openly loathe or like me, her decision.

I'm just talking about her family and in-law interactions. I don't think I'd like either one though Kendra might cause less of a ruckus in the family or out in public (a la Lauren lying on the sofa ignoring everyone at the retreat). You know the family talked about that one.

And Kendra's really internalized the "keep sweet" mantra. Girls's got it down pat.

I’d rather deal with a Kendra than a Lauren because I would trust Kendra to have social graces, respect social rules and have a pleasant attitude. Now that doesn’t mean I don’t think Lauren would be a genuine friend to someone she actually liked, but on an acquaintance level I prefer Kendra.

Also I’m more like Kendra temperament wise. I’m generally a happy, upbeat individual, and Negative Nancys always scream “attention whore” to me.

Ok that last picture- why in hell would you take a picture sitting in the overgrown weeds in what looks like the grounds of a haunted house?

Oh Halloween pictures, that must be it, lol.

All the Duggars have their formal photos posed in the middle of a patch of weeds; it's become a tradition.  Lauren really needs to ditch the hat; it doesn't suit her and the more I see it, the less I like it.

The Bates also like their formal photos in the middle of a patch of weeds.

I guess she doesn’t realize that’s a majority lesbian thing 🤣.

I have not heard that.  I know the basic outline of the aesthetic, and also that it's been around for centuries,  and Taylor Swift dabbled in it for her latest album,  but not the lesbian connection.

From Wikipedia:

Cottagecore has become a subculture of the LGBT and particularly the lesbian and female bisexual community, stemming from the drive for an escape from heteronormative society. Cottagecore videos of LGBT women performing tasks like baking bread, embroidering, and thrifting to calming music have gone viral on social media app TikTok. Some proponents of cottagecore report wishing to reclaim non-sexual ideas and images of intimacy and togetherness – as one Reddit user explains, "cottagecore sees love as a connection between two souls."[6]

We also don't have ANY food delivery or grocery delivery service, no Uber/Lyft/taxi, and spotty cell phone reception.  If we're making our own food, it's because we have to.

I make 95% of our food myself because I like to, but no one could possibly take a photo of me doing it and come away with anything other than a disaster. Even after 35 years of cooking, I still manage to be the person who destroys the kitchen just trying to boil water. My end results are generally pretty good - sometimes downright impressive - but there's hardly a clean spot at that point to place the food to take a photo.

Third, I wonder if all these folks pining for simple country living are aware that there's very little internet out here.  🤣

This made me laugh so hard because it is true. In general, I tend to find the Pinterest aesthetic of country living . . . not very reflective of reality.

The bugs, the amphibians,  the reptiles,  and the rodents sure do make country living something special.   I don't know if the pretty, Instagram pictures are worth the bug bites.

I suppose its better than sitting dangerously close to the edge of a cliff. So there's that. 🤔😁

And the smells!  They fertilize pastures around here with chicken litter.  😳

That's a smell you don't soon forget, especially when it's baking under the summer sun! 🤣

Large poultry farms are one of the biggest industries in my rural Arkansas county. Anyone who's been in the area for any length of time knows not to buy land too close to one precisely because of the smell.

To bring it back to the Duggars, as someone who actually lives in the country, one of the things about them that really pisses me off is the way they pretend they are out in the woods when they're not. It is nowhere near the most toxic thing they do, but it just makes me so angry.

I can only speak for myself, but I like having someone who lives in Arkansas on these boards so we know the Duggars are full of shit.  Speaking of that, over on Reddit's FundieSnark page they make fun of a fundie who bought a dilapidated house in Ohio and tries to make it look like she is living out in the country on her Instagram.  The reality is she and her husband bought the worst house on a suburban street.

Aww thank you! 🙂

That Ohio story is making me laugh so hard.

Well I have to say I've never given Arkansas, and a few other states, much thought, other than where they are on the map and what their capital is, so it was easy for me to picture the entire state as a rural podunk state. In hindsight it feels a little foolish, but like @Ohiopirate02 said, its nice to have a poster that knows the area, filling us in on the NW part of the state.

Yeah and one thing I really can't overstate enough is I know virtually nothing about the Delta parts of Arkansas other than driving through it periodically! It's just so different from the Ozarks geographically and culturally. I'm always interested in folks who talk about that side of the state because it is like new territory for me! If the Duggars lived in a more eastern or southern part of the state, I'd be a lot less able to talk about anything. Then again, I'd probably be less interested. The whole reason I even started following their exploits is I was just annoyed they were in my general area. 😂

For a moment there I thought you were talking about the Rods.

Makes me think of a house we had, in Connecticut, back around 1996 or so. We had a gorgeous piece of property, but one side ran alongside a hayfield which was always fertilized with chicken manure in the Spring. Luckily, the worst of it only lasted a few days a year, but during that time, the stench was unbearable, and used to make our eyes water even indoors with all the windows closed. And the flies! We got so infested with flies every time. I think even they were trying to find a better place to breathe. The kids used to get harassed when they got on or off the school bus.

So I guess it's not just Arkansas

True. A school that hosted outdoor track meets in our area butted up against a farm. It was torture. Breath through the nose and smell it, or breath through the mouth and taste it. What I would have given for a mask back then. lol
