OnceSane May 14, 2016 Share May 14, 2016 Quote Season 12 begins with JoJo Fletcher getting advice from former Bachelorettes Kaitlyn Bristowe, Desiree Hartsock Siegfried and Ali Fedotowsky before welcoming 26 bachelors to the mansion. One gentleman tries to charm JoJo with a song he wrote for her, while a DJ brings R&B group All-4-One to serenade her. One shy guy shows off his Scottish heritage by wearing a kilt; and one man attempts to stand out by riding in on a unicorn. Link to comment
SallyAlbright May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 Yep, Kaitlyn is still obnoxious. Good to see Desiree though, she is sweet and seemingly normal. Early thoughts: Jordan has this in the bag unless he unravels. He is SO confident and Jojo is eating it up. Josh Murray 2.0, though with a smaller neck, thankfully. Luke the war vet seems nice, though I wonder what he did with that poor horse - it was more appealing than some of the guys, I would have brought it inside! Chad gives off some serial killer vibes. I think it's the close talking. Robby? (guy with the wine) reminds me a bit of Aaron Paul. I think Jojo looked nice and did well, it seems like she's had a bit of a makeover just to polish up her look (the roots aren't as harsh, etc.) Chris Harrison's attempts to stare at her forehead when she arrived were hilarious. 1 Link to comment
lavenderpenguin May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 (edited) A few observations: 1. JoJo must be really attractive in person. She's obviously a pretty girl, but so many of the men kept saying how beautiful she was in person and many of them seemed genuinely nervous, so I think she must look even better in the flesh. I don't think we've ever seen so much fawning and nerves over a Bachelorette before, have we? I think if, last season, Britt had been the Bachelorette, we would have seen some of this, but I can't recall Kaitlyn or Andi getting this kind of reaction from the men. 2. Based on #1, I'm not surprised that Jordan pulled ahead of the pack. He's a former pro-football player, has been around celebrities (including his brother), and has been around super beautiful women, so he's likely not that intimidated by her beauty, as some of the others seem to be. However, I think it's a bit bizarre that he would want to be on this show, except for publicity and possibly to become the next Bachelor. But if that's his intent, I think he's going to have to withdraw, because right now, I'm 99% sure JoJo's not going to let go of him any time soon. Some horrible part of me wishes that he would drop out at F3, just for the drama. 3. I think it's interesting how obvious JoJo is being with who she's interested -- as well as how few of the men she's genuinely into. The fact that she even acknowledged that she wasn't feeling half the men in there was surprising to me. Based on what I could tell, she was only into about 3 (maybe 4) of them total? Might make this an easy season to predict, unless someone makes a sharp 180 a la Olivia last season. 4. What in the world was that Jake Pavelka fake-out? What was even the point of that non-existent drama? The whole thing looked so awkward and unnecessary. 5. Is it just me or do all the Bachelorettes have a type? I swear that Josh Murray, Shawn, and now Jordan, all have a very similar vibe and way of being. I can't put my finger on it, but they all feel so similar and it makes me wonder what's going on there. 6. My personal favorite was Wells, he just seemed adorable. Also really liked Jordan, Luke, and the Marine (can't recall his name). Edited May 24, 2016 by lavenderpenguin 6 Link to comment
Armchair Critic May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 Maybe I am jaded, but I thought she would get a better looking group of guys. Chad is a douche, he insulted every guy in the room. Yay Santa got a rose. :) She picked Daniel the guy who stripped down to his bikini underwear? The guy who looked like a Baldwin brother was so drunk he could barely keep his eyes open during the rose ceremony. 5 Link to comment

This is off-topic, but did anyone else notice something off about Kaitlyn's face? Not sure what is, maybe too much bronzer? It just looked... different. Can't put my finger on why though. Also, why wasn't Andi invited? She's a more recent Bachelorette than Ali or Desiree, and Ali's F1 didn't work out either, so it can't be that. Anyone know? 2 Link to comment

Maybe the producers are a bit unhappy with her? As for the guys fawning all over the Bachelorette, they definitely acted like this with Emily. 4 Link to comment

JenE4 May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 (edited) Welcome back, gang! Although I've "seen" some of you Bachelor Nation regulars on other boards, I'm more excited about this group getting back together than I am about the show itself. Here's to an amazing journey of Wrong Reasons! Let's do this! Gotta root for the superfan. Make Bachelor Nation great again! A lean into a barn, foot up, and a wistful stare across the plain is a slightly better classic pose than the guy who put his foot up on a rock and thought HE was doing the best classic pose. Seriously, this is the cream of the crop opening packages? Eh, I've got no one so far. Jojo looks stunning! Swigging wine from the bottle. "My mom will like him." All moms will, Jojo. All moms will. Wait, was it JoJo's mom who was swigging wine directly from the bottles in hometowns?! I think so--drinking while Jojo's brother was interrogating Ben! Then, yes, Jojo's mom will love him most of all! Ok, the guy with the mixed up cards was funny. Hideous, but funny. Chad's hot. Daniel's slightly less hot. (Never mind, upon closer inspection I rescind the hotness decree for Daniel. It must have been a good angle.) There's already a James Taylor, James Taylor. He's this season's Wes. They say love, it don't come easy. Santa?!? "Jo-Jo-Jo!" Ha! Wells not only looks like (a poor man's) Ben, but he brought his very own washed-up singing group that we didn't even need to wait until a group date of the ol' write your own ditty and perform on stage trope. Thanks for telling us it's not a real unicorn, Nick. I was going to say I think this means he thinks unicorns are real--but then he literally said he thinks unicorns are real. PTSD from the war, perhaps? (Commercial break) This guy is still talking about unicorns?! It could be a different guy, because I can't remember what he looked like 3 minutes later, but what are the chances someone else is talking about unicorns? Who is the guy (scruffy beard, sky blue tie) doing ALL of the talking heads this entire episode!? To get THIS much airtime he must be someone to watch. ... Oh, it's Chad! I just thought he was hot 10 minutes ago and can't keep track! Ok, I'm putting him down in top 6 at least. Is this guy with the fortune teller the same one with the cards? Oh, he went too far with the gimmicky stuff. You, sir, are no longer funny. Jordan totally nailed the first impression rose. Santa is not breaking character! I wonder whether he'll keep it on like the one guy who wore a mask for WEEKS in...whose season was it? Des maybe?? (Ok, smart thinking, getting Jojo to sit on his lap.) Hmm. The more Chad talks, the more I think he has Wrong Reasons potential. Daaaaamn, Daniel! Don't poke another man's belly button. Oh, there goes his little tie...and everything else. "Daniel is white Canadian wasted." Lol! Everyone is busting into the interview room, and Jojo just can't even with these drunken fools. Maybe just make your RC cut picks with a breathalyzer. Yep, they still have Chad doing ALL of the voiceovers, including trash talking Jordan. He's totally this season's villian. JAKE PAVELKA?!?!? I seriously just yelled that at the top of my lungs. Don't take him, Jojo! We all remember how he "emotionally abused" Vienna because he didn't like where she put the dresser in their bedroom. (I think that was the big revelation in their Break Up Special.) Oh, you got us, Jake! Me watching the preview: :-O Edited May 24, 2016 by JenE4 9 Link to comment

From what I recall (as this show has turned my brain to mush), Emily had the guys tripping all over themselves on the first night. I remember thinking "she's GOOD" and I didn't even like her that much. It was a different approach, though - Jojo is friendlier. Emily made the guys really work to impress her. One more thought - the short jokes about Alex made me a bit uncomfortable. He can't control his height any more than he can control his skin color or his age. It just seems a bit mean. It is The Bachelorette, though, so I know I'm overthinking this. 1 Link to comment

The only thing that bugged was during the first impression rose where a piece of hair was falling out of place. I'm all for good looking hair but cut it back dude! She was very obvious with who she liked so I think the season while, dramatic will be pretty much be the same 4 guys or so. Chad is a perfect contestant for this show. I do like that he's calling men out for their crap (not like he doesn't have his own but still). I get so tired of fakety-fake people but name of the game. I like Luke but he probably has his own issues. The men are pretty though, I will give them that. Jo-Jo doesn't seem to be too drama herself. hyacinth May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 Finally! the Bachelorette has begun! My life is complete. :-) I'm impressed with Jojo - she is so warm to all the men! (It reminds me I need to be a little warmer with my online dates. I tend to be too snarky, which is good for PreviouslyTV, and bad for online dating. :-)) If I'd been on the show, I think Luke would have been my choice for the first rose. That is a fine looking Texan. It's obvious that Jordan wants to win this thing. He came to find Jojo again to get in a great first kiss. Are there many media opportunities for the winners? I don't find him all that attractive, but his confidence is probably alluring to Jojo. She really does seem like a sweet girl. 3 Link to comment

I was actually surprised by how transparent she was about her frontrunners. I'm trying to recall, but I don't remember any Bachelorette just flat out admitting that she wasn't into half the dudes there. I mean, I'm sure they felt that way, but I didn't realize they could just put it out there like that. I was hoping that she'd give the first impression rose to Luke, to at least keep some little bit of competition in there, but right now, it looks like Jordan is a sure thing. Link to comment
Riplet68 May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 I've never watched before, but at least a 1/4 of those guys are gay, right? I'm horrible with names, is chad the guy with the temper? Jordan is good-looking, well-connected (duh!), and used to be a pro athlete, so it's unlikely he's having any trouble meeting and dating beautiful women. So why is he on the show? It's down to him either wanting to be the Bachelor (in which case, he's going to have to eliminate himself, because JoJo's certainly not going to), or him wanting to be a part of a "famous" (D-list is still fame, I guess?) couple, like Kaitlyn and Shawn or Sean and Catherine. Bachelor fame is so fleeting, so if he's smart, he'll go for option 1 -- he gets all the fame of his own season, gets to pick a lady of his choosing, and then can go be a part of a showmance relationship afterwards to stretch those fifteen minutes a bit further. crgirl412 May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 So many of these guys looked the exact same with very similar personalities and lots in life- cool guy, hot, jock, frat boy, and fairly successful. They are a dime a dozen in reality but it's the different and diverse types that these girls should go for. Ali even said it was her attraction to Hot Roberto that clouded her judgement. The whole format need to change in order for people to find love and have it last. In watching what happens on this season, it seems like there is a lot more testosterone and alcohol mixing like they do in more "low brow" reality shows. I like the new show Coupled as it's way more informal, people get more chances with different people and the beach porn is amazing! 1 Link to comment
petalfrog May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 I'd read that the names are written on the roses... at points you could see Jojo reading the names. The subtle change in her facial expression--a little flare of anger--was noticeable to me when Daniel's name was called. She did not put him on her list and that was clearly producer manipulation. Something tells me a handler will get an earful. There's is no way the kilt guy should have gone home over him. Speaking of... why was everyone so terrified of a kilt? I'm a hasher and kilts are common-place among hashers and very manly! When Jake walked in I literally pointed at my door and yelled "GET OUT!" What a completely unnecessary set of drama. Luke the cowboy was pretty... Jordan looks like a more well-proportioned Shawn Booth (Kaitlyn's fiance). It was eerie to me. 12 Link to comment
Madding crowd May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 I'm a huge Aaron Rogers fan and his brother is just as cute. I noticed he got out of the limo first. which usually means the person goes pretty far. A lot of the guys including Jordan have that high, floppy hair thing going on. I couldn't believe JoJo gave Santa or the drunk Canadian a rose. I guess those are the safe guys she won't mind getting rid of. A lot of the guys were cute, it will take me a couple of weeks to see which ones I like. I don't mind if Jordan is compared to Josh Murray, I liked him too. I think he is way, way better looking than Shawn Booth (who strongly resembles Alf). I like JoJo so far and can't wait to see all the cheesy drama. 2 Link to comment

I feel like the power dynamics of the situation (all these men/women competing for the same guy/girl) creates a lot of desperation and attention-grabbing behavior, so anyone who seems confident, at ease, and not too eager will naturally stand out. wovenloaf May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 Serious creepy, sleazy, cokehead vibes from Chad. Ugh. As for Jordan...I don't see the appeal...I find his hair douchey and dumb. Face a little wonky. And he comes off kind of disingenuous to me, like too practiced or something. Kicking off that "media" career he claims to have, I guess. Yep, from where I'm sitting, Aaron got most the genes in that family! At least he's not alone in the inferior-to-Aaron-Rodgers category of mankind, ha ;-) Man, that rose ceremony didn't end until like 6 or 7 in the morning, judging by how light it was outside when the rejected dudes left. reggiejax May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 Quote Chad gives off some serial killer vibes. That's giving that dickhead way too much credit. Serial Killers have something going on underneath. Granted, it is horrible, but it is there. Chad has nothing going on underneath. He is all surface, and that surface is douchy and meatheaded. There is nothing wrong with him a good ass kicking couldn't cure. And frankly, I couldn't care if it cured him or not, just bring on the ass kicking. This guy makes that moron ManCode Dave look like a model of civility, restraint and class in comparison. Aaron Rodgers much less talented brother looks to be the big winner here. Though as much as I do find JoJo to be quite beautiful, it looks like little brother will come in second in yet another category, what with Aaron Rodgers dating Olivia Munn. Harsh, but not untrue. yorklee2 May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 I have to agree with others that JoJo came off really polished and down to earth which is what I liked about her in Ben's season. She was great at putting the guys at ease and making them comfortable. So hard to rely on first impressions on this show because as we know through the course of the show they can be completely turned around but having said that, some of my first impressions: It's obvious who some of the top drama inducing and/or big share of camera time guys are going to be. Jordan, Chad, Luke, Robbie and maybe a couple of others. As others have said JoJo didn't try to hide the top 5 or 6 she was into and previews of the season seemed to bare that out. Of that group my favorite was Luke. The two biracial guys had good intros and seemed ok. Grant and Christian I think? It will be interesting to see how far they go. The guy who works with erectile dysfunction patients and the one who had the long straight hair who didn't know anything about JoJo because he didn't watch last season, well they were just kind of...pitiful I really liked Wells and hope he goes far although he seems a little too tame and polished for JoJo as she admitted she seems to go for the more rugged, bad boy types. I think he would have been a better fit for Caila if she had been chosen for B'ette. So here goes another season. Look forward to all the snark and observations. Link to comment
Superpole2000 May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 There is a singer-songwriter named James Taylor, but not THE James Taylor. There is a pro-QB named Rodgers, but it isn't Aaron. All-4-One came out to sing, but I swear everyone knows Boyz II Men was the better three-word singing group with a number in its name. JoJo isn't that hard up that she needs to pair off with any of those second-best situations. Most of the compliments on JoJo's appearance seemed like thinly veiled, "Wow, check out her rack!" comments. Based on JoJo's assessment of Jordan's butt, it seems she's thinking along the same superficial lines. 4 Link to comment
Andromeda May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 A lot of meathead types chosen for JoJo, not surprisingly. They seem her type. But I am seriously mixing up half of them already. There's Jordan, and Chad, and someone else or two or three with the same hairstyle--light brown hair shaved on the sides, and POUFY on top. Until the pouf escapes its jail and flops around like a dead chicken head. Only a few of the manboys stood out to me: I like Ali, the one whose family fled Iran, because he's really hot, talented, and has an adorable doggie that looks a lot like me! Sadly, JoJo didn't look nearly as impressed by his classical piano performance as I would have been, and so I don't think he'll last long (probably too intellectual for her). I can't say I liked Chinese/Scottish guy, because his joke about the Scottish half being the bottom half was very crude (and stupid), but it was inappropriate for the other guys to talk like he was wearing a silly costume. Traditional wear from any culture isn't a joke. A lot of people with Scottish roots consider kilts their formal wear, and even get married in kilts. As for Santa, I didn't mind his outfit, but he was stupid not to shed it as soon as he could -- grab an early one-on-one with her and then TAKE IT OFF. He seemed to be wearing a suit underneath, why did he keep it on? He was sweating like a pig. What was she doing keeping Daniel, the drunkard pool boy? How stupid is that? My opinion of her dropped a bit there. But then, I don't have much of an opinion of her one way or the other. She's kind of your average hot girl, nice bod, thick styled hair, pretty face (though not super memorable and kind of a square chin thing going on.) I can't remember much else about her, and I chuckled when Harrison described her as accomplished. Isn't she just a real-estate agent? 3 Link to comment
violetr May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 I like JoJo, but it's already looking like she's got bad taste in men. In real life, the hot bad boy often turns out to be a massive, abusive dick. Oh how I love the editors of this show. They are so unsung. There was one cut from Daniel's weird, creepy facial expression to an equally weird, creepy looking teddy bear that made me burst out laughing. This season is going to be a very entertaining train wreck. 8 Link to comment
bosawks May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 I don't know why but Jordan in his skinny jeans, in the rain, on a high school field staring plaintively in the distance gave me the giggles. And then Pavelka showed up and ruined my buzz. 14 Link to comment
Bobcatkitten May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 I thought JoJo looked amazing. I can see why the guys are falling over themselves. She is a stunner. There were maybe five genuinely hot guys and then the rest were just average. I am a fan of Jordan so far; really like how warm Christian is; there was a another shy, cute guy who got a rose - Derek I think - who seemed nice. Alex seemed very genuine and cute as well. Chad is way too intense. Back it down dude. And something was off for me with Luke. Not sure what. Obviously Daniel is a producer pick. There is no way in hell she would have picked the strip down guy on her own. He's over the top and creepy at the same time. Also, do we think the guys know who Jordan is yet? 2 Link to comment

JudyObscure May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 (edited) These Bachelorettes really go for the high-top fade don't they. Shawn had it, the first time I saw it was on Emily's Jef, and now you could almost line up JoJo's favorites by their hair. Too bad because my favorites, Wells and James Superfan don't have it. I think Jordan has the same job Juan Pablo has -- ex-pro athlete uses his face value with the fans to sell sports tickets and other team branded stuff, plus works PR. In both cases I expect their bosses made them come on the show. Of course he's confident around JoJo because he's used to having beautiful women throw themselves at him. That's one reason I think confidence is over-rated. It can just mean a guy thinks he's all that and he may not make good husband material at all. I think Kaitlyn looked different because her skin was darker and her hair lighter and she was wearing the pale lipstick, so now she was all one color when she used to be a nice contrast of hair/skin/ and red lips. They've done the same thing to JoJo to a lesser extent, but she still looked great. I do hope she'll wear brighter lipstick with different clothes. JoJo isn't the type I admire most, I prefer a more delicate look, but she is definitely a ten so why did they cast so many fives to sevens for her? No wonder all they could do was gush and mumble. I remember Emily's guys being gaga over her, but they didn't act like 14 year-old boys asking the head cheerleader for a dance. Get a grip dudes! Edited May 24, 2016 by JudyObscure 2 Link to comment

I think that was in the "coming up on this season!" montage though. It wouldn't surprise me if they already know though...Jordan seems like he might lead with the "I'm Aaron Rodgers little brother!" thing, while pretending to be bashful about it. He probably gets more attention from women for that then for his illustrious football career, in which it appears he never made it off the practice squad and/or got cut well before the season started. 3 Link to comment

I agree. If the Bachelorette is now permitted to tell one or more finalists that she has fallen in love I think it should also be allowed for her to admit that she is just not into most of the dudes and is basically being forced to keep them around for our entertainment; so bring on the crazy! 3 Link to comment
leighdear May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 Pretty good first episode, but I think JoJo was teetering on the edge of nervous hysteria there during the intros until she got a grip. She was a bit too enthusiastic to me, trying hard to "sparkle" and be engaging. Just a bit fake & over-the-top to me. But she reigned it in ok. I agree most of the guys homogenized into a mass of beardy, dark haired dudeishness. Except for the half-asian kilt wearer and Santa Clause. And I absolutely believe JoJo gets to pick some of the guys she wants to keep and the producers get to choose the rest. That's the only reason Daniel the drinking dipper got to stay. Seriously, his family has got to be mortified. But then, every first episode has to have a McDill! 5 Link to comment
Cornhusker12 May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 (edited) I was a little bummed that Jojo was chosen for this season because I didn't think she was all that great/interesting, but she came across fun last night and I think she'll be a solid Bachelorette. Seems like Jordan is the safe pick already, right? Unless he implodes or has a freakout or something. The preview made it look like we're set for a pretty huge Jordan vs. Chad battle throughout the season, especially since it seems like Jojo has a "bad boy" predilection that she can't shake so she'll keep Chad around even though he seems like a total dick. Should be fun to watch that go down haha. Other thoughts - I was cracking up every time they showed Santa still wearing that suit. My god. It was like one of those SNL sketches that starts weird, then hammers the same joke over and over until it stops being funny, then keeps going long enough that it becomes funnier than ever because it's so absurd. WHY was he wearing it the entire night??? Huge props to that guy for somehow getting a rose hahah The Erectile Disfunction guy - I thought he would end up being a creep but by the end of the episode I was rooting for him to stick around. He obviously isn't her type or anything, but seems like he could end up being one of those guys who's a good comic relief guy around the house like Tanner a few seasons ago. Ali - Definitely seems like a cool dude, very down to earth and super talented on the piano too. Not sure if she's feeling him, but I got a good vibe from him. It's rare to have a guy on this show with a different personality than "ex-jock/current personal trainer" or "producer pick freakshow" so I hope he sticks around haha. Artsda May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 She kept the drunk pool guy over Peter? Pool guy should have been first to go. Jordan I really liked. I knew he looked familiar, but I had no idea he was Aaron's brother until after the episode. He needs to make it to hometowns. I wonder if Aaron would show up. Chad seems the bad guy. He's very angry all the time, and wow that preview. 1 Link to comment
b2H May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 My guess is that drunk guy is producer's pick. I can't imagine Jojo would've done this on her own. 3 Link to comment
Alapaki May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 I think JoJo is going to renew my love for the 'Ette franchise. I still have such seething hatred for Kaitlyn and Andi and, for me, Des was just so "meh", that it's great to have a smoking hot lead with a great set. I'm guessing lots of swimming/swimwear related "dates" this season. And the guys take narcissism to a whole other level. There's a Chad, which is fun for me because my fake "Bachelor Name" is "Chad Z." And they really tried to sell us Pavelka? After he almost gave Vienna the back of his hand during that break-up segment"? Barrel bottom? You've been scratched. Get water for my horses and mead for my men. Because we're about to take off on this journey!!!!!" 7 Link to comment
threebluestars May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 My first thought when I saw Pavelka was "of course you're still single" lol. Is my memory failing me, because I remember a few years back that there was a bachelor (I think) who had one of his friends posing as a contestant to give him juice on the other girls ... I actually would've liked if they tossed Pavelka in there to do that for Jojo. The guys would have DIED and it would have been fucking hilarious to watch. Missed opportunity. If you're going to trot out the Wings of Love, make him a wing man for Jojo. 8 Link to comment

We all remember how he "emotionally abused" Vienna because he didn't like where she put the dresser in their bedroom. (I think that was the big revelation in their Break Up Special.) Oh, you got us, Jake! Me watching the preview: :-O That was one of the most delicious moments in Bach history. I couldn't stand either of them, and I despised Vienna especially, but actually came away feeling sorry for Vienna. (for about ten minutes) Jake will probably be on BIP. thus the 'return". Uck. I don't think being with the second place little brother "also ran" Jordan will sit well with Jojo. Plus trying to wring a future out of a washed up football career probably won't amount to much. If she is truly looking for marriage material, and there are any viable candidates there, then he will be sent packing in the finals. I think Kaitlyn had something done with her teeth. Although i once again have hopes for this season, the caliber of men that can take time off and risk their reputations to do this is about Kaitlyn's speed. A do-nothing, going-nowhere barfly. For her, anyone will do..as we can see. Edited May 24, 2016 by seasick 1 Link to comment
huahaha May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 It was nice to see the guys be genuinely giggly and nervous over a bachelorette. Other seasons, the guys have claimed to be interested, but the body language and facial expressions were much more obvious for JoJo. Ali actually gave JoJo good advice about going for compatibility instead of chemistry, but then JoJo jumped straight in with Jordan. I guess some things can't be helped! Link to comment
