Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Nah. Sierra's man is Latin and they have a similar name, no problem. As long as there's no whiff of Catholicism.

The girls...the outfits... the accessories... the makeup and hair are so Level 1000 WTF.  I'm pretty much speechless. I think the lack of food has affected their critical thinking skills.

Sierra's kids aren't nearly old enough to be married off, though. Plus her husband looks less "foreign" strange slovenly effing ugly.

Jill's got so much eye makeup on, she can barely keep her eyes open.

What's with this War on Easter ?

Maybe the Fundies are offended by the word "Easter" because of its pagan origins. Depending on which source you read, it was either named after the Anglo-Saxon fertility goddess Eastre or the ancient Babylonian fertility goddess Ishtar.  Either way, the very idea is enough to make a Fundie's head explode. Boycotting the word "Easter" and substituting "Resurrection Sunday" makes the holiday seem so much safer and so much more "Christian".

And less fun, which is a fun-die requirement. The Resurrection Sunday bunny sounds like a real drag compared to the Easter bunny.

I allow shoes in my house because 1. plantar fasciitis and 2. I absolutely hate the sound of bare feet walking. I really can't bear it. Despite that, and despite having cats and a dog, my carpet still looks better than Alyssa's!

Adding to this, I'd rather have a bit of dirt from my guests' shoes than have someone's ugly feet bare on my floors!  Sorry.  Also, I don't like my feet or even my socks exposed on other people's floors (or carpets).   Yes, I'm a bit anal!

As for Amy's BABY photo- what's with the Duggars and Bates' with all of the balloons for every occasion?  Balloons are terrible for the environment.

The other girls look like they have escaped from a 1980’s wedding. Those sleeves!!!

Prada Kitty, this is hysterical!  But I cannot find the photos.  Were they removed?  I need to see these monstrosities!

Huh I have heard of her but don't keep up with her, so I had no idea. I boycott that store because of the obnoxious commercials. When my family suggests shopping there (namely out of curiosity), I pitch such a fit that they change plans. 😂

Do locals know it’s a fundie business?

That's a good question!

I must confess that I didn't know, but since I am in another county, I don't really have any exposure to them other than the commercials. And that's really never been mentioned in any of their unfortunate TV commercials that I can remember.

I only lived in the Fayetteville area when I was in grad school and spent most of my time buried in work, so I was not hip to anything going on. But I would bet that folks who have lived in the NWA area (Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, Fayetteville) for any length of time are more familiar with the company's beliefs, especially since they seem to be vocal about it with charity events.

You have to scroll through the Instagram post (the one that starts with Jill's and David's ugly mugs)-- there's an arrow on the side of the picture. The worst of the fashion monstrosities (i.e. the youngest girls' dresses) are the last photos.

Oh my goodness gracious, those poor rodrigues children in the purple monstrosities and crazy done up hair!  The older girls!  😧 and the one boy holding a bible, the photo angle makes it look like he has a tiny arm!

Janessa now resembles the rest of the family!  Maybe not so skinny yet!

Omg I just got god bothered on the train home from work!  A guy thrust a pamphlet at me and mumbled “read this”. I politely declined. My first thought was “Omg the Rodriguii do this same thing!!!”

Right after 9/11, I was at the Milwaukee airport.  I was surprised the Jesus tract people were still allowed to hassle travelers in the terminal outside security.  When I was approached I asked what makes you think I need you to tell me about Jesus?  The Jesus person got quite angry.  Considering I am a person of faith, the irony of that situation lingers.

I think this whole “spreading the word” thing is actually an extension of an overgrown ego. And when you turn them down and they get angry...how dare anyone rebuke my attempts to “save” them?  One thing I always wondered...how would they know that they aren’t god bothering one of their own?  Is there some sort of secret handshake or something?  A code word?

I was approached in a parking lot yesterday as I was putting groceries in my car.  He was a big man, very polite, and just said he had something to give me if I would take it.  It was a devotional book that I'm sure cost much more than dad R's tract.  I just said "thank you" and he said "have a nice day".  Actually a very pleasant person.  No discussion, no strong-arm, just a polite wave as he went off across the parking lot.  I actually had quite a bit of respect for him and how he approaches strangers.  If it must be done, this is a good way to do it.

I'm gonna guess that Resurrection Sunday bunny brings festively decorated hair shirts, stigmata and the complete Spurgeon's Sermons (leather bound, especially for our boy Jeremy!).

And for girls, Wet n' Wild makeup and nail polish*, dollar store costume jewelry and perfume, and Kleenex (for bra stuffing). Gotta catch those fun-die men, ya know. Melt Head Jill said that's how you do it.

Hey, Wet 'n Wild has stepped up their game in terms of quality. They actually have some pretty nice stuff at relatively inexpensive prices, especially when the other drugstore brands are pushing the 10-20 dollar range. My WnW Walking on Eggshells eyeshadow trio gets pretty heavy use.

Even Wet 'n Wild has moved on from the 80s. JillR should take note.

They need to ditch the black hose especially for spring.  Nurie looks like she is wearing tights. Her hair would benefit from a good trim as well.

Nurie’s outfit would’ve been nice without the modesty shirt (if she had to do one a lacy cami would’ve been nicer than a man’s undershirt) with no tights.

I've been trying to keep myself from commenting on this, but . . . .

Jilly and Nurie have attended a fundraising banquet (Jill has money to contribute?) for an organization working to deny women's reproductive rights in part through lies and trickery, and they feel the need to go on the Internet to show off their ugly outfits and brag about their volunteer work (they have time to volunteer?). I'm not surprised, but I'm growing to hate, Hate, HATE Jill Rodrigues.

For snark purposes, what's the 2010s version of Wet n' Wild?

Quality aside, the name has always, to me, suggested spring break and all that craziness (and maybe a porn genre 🤷‍♀️). It's certainly a price point that would appeal to Rodrigii, especially considering economies of scale. But it's hard to imagine a godly connotation of the name Wet 'n' Wild. These are people who can't bear the term deviled eggs (to borrow from another thread). I want to see the mental gymnastics.

I was surprised at how much I like ELF mascara (speaking of low cost makeup).  It is only $4 where I am.

Shouldn’t Jill’s text read, “Heaven and Hell ARE real”?

Well, maybe it is a store, like "Citrus and Lemon."

I suppose these people would only buy from "Heaven and Heaven," though.  Or maybe "Heaven and Paradise."

Oh, there will always be a new Maxwell post!  Sarah will write about the exciting walk in the park, or cooking 6 months of meatless burritos, or sing the praises of her mother's new book glorifying her master (husband).  There will always be a new, boring post.
