Ok, confession time:  when Tim said he has to tell Jeniffer (?) a secret that she might not like, did you think it could be that he used to be a woman?

Or that he used to do gay porn.

I’ve never been to any of these Muslim countries, but I’m curious about something. There’s all this talk about respecting the culture, covering your shoulders, not drinking alcohol, etc. but when Avery was dress shopping, there was a whole rack of traditional western style dresses, low cut, sleeveless, etc. And if people in Muslim countries don’t drink, why are the restaurants serving liquor?

To my understanding Lebanon is one of the more diversified countries in the middle east with about 40% of the population being Christian.  That would account for the wedding dresses and such.

My first time seeing Muslim wedding dresses as well, and they were stunning!

So wouldn't the head piece, the part that drapes down from the head, that would cover her shoulders? Forgive my ignorance, I'm unsure what that's called.

The liquor, well I guess even in Beirut they attempt to cater to tourists.

Lebanon has a large Christian population, and I believe that the Muslim community is not as strict as others for the most part.

Darcey, you do need to work on yourself... You are simply too much... Have you actually tried to talk to Tom? He may not want an emotional woman, he may want someone a bit more down to earth who doesn't have the look at me look , and not someone who is living the life of a fancy musical...

I enjoyed your post, especially the part about Darcey living in a movie, except instead of a musical I imagine her in an old Bette Davis black and white film gnashing & emoting all over the screen. There's  a French phrase for this type of old movie that I cannot remember.

It’s funny, I can’t see Tim as male or female, gay or straight. And I don’t say that to mean asexual or gender non-binary. I mean Ken Doll smooth plastic crotch area. I wouldn’t be shocked if that was his secret.

Id like it if he was the bio dad of veronicas child because ultimately I think there is a decent chance Tim abandons Colby (?) because Veronica is a jerk and jenniffer basically issues an ultimatum that he never see Veronica and/or Colby and he reluctantly submits so he can keep getting sex.

But I think that Veronica would have brought it up......loudly before now if that was tbe secret.

I think he could be broke though.  That would make sense, the custom gun market has to be highly volatile and sensitive to economic downturns.

Given his need for status symbols, like the car (even if it's a kit car) and fancy, colorful suits that he probably can't buy off the rack he probably doesn't have a lot of money saved from boom times.

Seriously- I was living for the looks of incredulity and chagrin that Omar kept giving Avery’s mom as she was reading about Muslim wives.

Avery’s mom is a nasty, condescending, offensive little witch isn’t she?  Who the hell, as an adult, is rude enough to say that kind of stuff to someone in their face on their turf?  That’s some American arrogance right there.  She needs to watch less toxic news shows, and open her damned mind.  Omar is probably as good as Avery will get.  If Omar came here, and his family rattled off a list of stereotypes about young white girls that wear booty shorts and sleep with men they’re not married to, she’s scream bloody murder.  Someone needs to tell her her racism is showing.

I don’t know what to make of Tom.  He’s maintained his composure quite well up until now, but I can’t forget the bad breath comments and taxi, so he’s no winner either.  At the end of the day, no matter how pathetic, overdone and extra Darcy is, he’s still punching above his weight.  And for that he deserves what he gets.

Same goes for Caesar the idiot. He’s more interested in hot arm candy than a meaningful relationship. I hope she takes him for everything he has (which doesn’t appear to be much).

Rebecca is more annoying with each episode.  She’s one of those women who make you understand how women get slapped in the mouth.  No, I don’t condone domestic violence, but the combination of a flippant mouth, strict social norms, and an unstable man are a recipe for disaster.  Zied might be a creep, but she is wrong for not respecting the culture.  Why intentionally embarrass the man?

And will someone please tell Jeniffer’s chicken-lipped ass that she is not cute.  When I look at her, all I see is the masks from “V for Vendetta”.

Sooo envious of Darcy in London, especially since she could never appreciate it like I do. I've been there three times and there's almost a physical pain when I have to leave to go home. Like I'm already homesick for it!

There's one light rail station here that's underground and I've actually gone there a few times just to sit because it smells like the Tube and I love seeing the lights coming through the tunnel. I might have uttered "Mind the gap between the train and the platform" a few times.

I know that if I was travelling to a foreign country for the first time, I'd do some research on the customs, culture and morals of the place before I went.

If Rebecca had done that, she'd have learned the following:

  • adultery is a criminal offence punishable by up to 5 years in prison, so the fact she's still married is a serious issue for Zied as it could result in him going to prison. And then how would he get his K-1 visa with a criminal record?
  • tattoos in Tunisia have very negative connotations, being associated with the secular Berbers and criminals rather than the Muslim community. Attitudes are starting to change but there are many who still consider tattoos to be taboo.  https://www.thejakartapost.com/life/2018/12/20/long-despised-tattoos-emerge-from-shadows-in-tunisia.html

She just didn't have a clue that her tattoos were liable to attract negative attention - or bother to understand why that might be. It wasn't the fact that her shoulders/arms were bare - there was another woman shown in the bar who had bare shoulders.  You've have thought she'd have brought a lightweight coverup she could have worn, rather than the pleather jacket.

Darcey - oh dear. Where do I begin? She is so obsessed with the idea of being "in love" that she's unable to actually think about whether she's attracted to Tom or not. That fake English Gentleman look he's affecting is ridiculous. He'd given the impression earlier that he lived in London but was originally from Nottingham. But this week he admitted he lives in Nottingham - which is the Pittsburgh of the UK, but without the charm of the industrial heartland of PA. (I grew up 15 miles from Nottingham.) Trust me that if Tom went out in Nottingham dressed like that he'd get the shit kicked out of him. I also doubt he had a nose bleed from Darcey hitting him in her sleep. Dude looks like a nose-picker to me. He is so not into her that it was embarrassing to watch that scene on the boat.

Darcey needs therapy and/or AA for sure. It's almost painful to watch her. But not quite, so I'll continue to gloat about how happy I am to be single if being Darcey is the alternative.

Tiny Tim is so boring I can barely watch the faked-up scenes. The most interesting part of his segments was wondering why the little girl kept disappearing - one shot she'd be in her car seat and the next she'd gone. I suspect she was on the floor playing with The-Teddy-That-Was-Bigger-Than-Timmy and wasn't strapped into the car seat at all. So much for Jeniffer being such a good mother ...

Avery's scenes were, imo, heavily edited. Omar was beginning to explain to her mother about how in Islam the husband is meant to be kind and then it cut away quickly. I think all that 'beating the wife' stuff was edited with pauses to make it more dramatic, as this couple has very little drama going on.

Benjamin seems sweet and although he has an inkling that Akinyi might be seeing him as a cash cow, they do seem genuinely to like one another. His son is adorable!

This week's bonus:  No Pole, Kareena, Angela or Mykhul.

ETA: I care so little about Ceasar and his fake storyline that I totally forgot about him!

If Rebecca has such a bad experience with a Muslim man then why date another one.  Either respect the culture while there or fine someone you are on the same page with.

Is Darcy and actress or really a mess?   Sleeps with full makeup and false eyelashes (I’m sure that is partially scripted).  And her heals when getting on the boat etc....I mean come on?  She can’t wear a pair of comfortable shoes or gym shoes?   I know that is the most important thing for me when traveling.

Jennifers hair annoying me when they showed her working out.  I don’t understand how you can have your sweaty hair all over your face and neck when exercising.   Maybe it’s just me but my hair has to be up if it’s hot or when I am working out.

I think this is a valid theory as well.  My hubby, aged 54 (I say this as he didn't just get into guns last week) has been a gun enthusiast since age, oh I don't know....age 7 or 8 and has made a part time living off being a gunsmith since college.  The lower level of our home is his workshop, he has a LLC corporation.   So......having said that:  he looked at Tim's online store and was NOT impressed.  He was like, this is not a viable business where you make a steady income.  He had two guns for sale!  TWO!  I was expecting 20 or 30!

PS - I am NOT trying to be political or pro gun or anti gun, these are just the facts, lol.  And no, I am not trying to drum up business for hubby.  He is busy enough!!

I think the secret is that Tim slept with his ex probably. No shocker there.

And if Zied were a little older with more relationship experience, he could've used reverse psychology on Rebecca's sad manipulative tactics. When she took off her jacket KNOWING he would get jealous, and it would cause a lot of stares from men- he should've said "Fuck it, let 'em stare." And been totally blasé about it. She would've found a way to get pissed about that also, rest assured. She WANTED to start something. She knows he is jealous, she KNOWS the rules of Muslim countries. She just wants the attention/drama. When girls do this, it can be dangerous, and they risk putting their men in harm's way "defending their honor". Poor Ziggy.

Dunno if I buy the story Rebecca is feeding us about her ex being controlling. She seems to purposely go after younger boys SHE can control. Something tells me she pulled an Avery and was all too willing to embrace covering up at first and immersed herself into the culture. He cheated, and now she is resentful. So she's spinning the control/jealousy angle. And I will say it again, even though his pics are blurred, her ex husband looks disturbingly young next to her. Like she was sleeping with one of her son's friends type young.

I totally believed Jesse when he said Darcy had a drinking problem. Major duh there. She is the spitting image of my BPD/alcoholic Mom. I used to come home from school, find her passed out in lingerie, with some strange man in our house, while my Dad was out of town. Complete with the weird crying jags, then immediate anger when she wasn't comforted. Amazing how quickly the tears would dry up! Lush central. I couldn't believe all the people defending her when Jesse suggested her drinking problem. Knowing a few lushes in my lifetime, it was ALL too obvious to me. Bet she has wine breath 24/7, I can practically smell it from my tv screen.

I wonder how she'll spin this to them this time around? Last time it was all Jesse, Jesse, Jesse's fault.

I felt that Jesse was abrupt, but was basically on his side through much of the drama between those two. She nattered endlessly at him about EVERYTHING. Her nattering and the way she speaks in general, combined with her phonyness makes me stabby. I never liked her. I didn't like Jesse much, but I could see his point most of the time.

Avery is planning to get married 6 months after converting.  Oh, swell! 😕

The rest of the sad sacks, well you all know the basics....more delusion!

When I was in the Marines, there were a lot of fundamentalist groups targeting recruits. I saw a lot of people join fundamentalist Christian religions. A lot of them then quickly married. This included my roommate. Many of the marriages were short lived. It seems to be a common thing

She pulled the same shit with Jesse. On the taxi ride from the airport. He's trying to tell her about the city and the sights and she says it feels like home and she can see herself living there. Like try to spend more than an hour on foreign soil before you start proclaiming that you want to move there. Darcey is an immature lunatic. Luckily her ex has custody of the girls.

THIS. I spend a lot of time in the UK and i love it. My first thought was , Wow, I want to live here. After spending a lot of time there, I still love it but I'm not sure if I would want to live there. If I did move there, at least I would go knowing what I was getting into. Being there on vacation is different from living there. I LOVE London. My best friend lives in London SW and I spend 5-6 weeks or so there  ever year. Living there is exhausting.  Air quaiity is not great. Its crowded. Publix transport, while plentiful can take forever and its CRAZY expensive. My friend is moving to Newark this week after 30 years in London and he cant wait to get out.

I live in Orlando and you see the same thing here. People go to the theme parks and decide they want to live here. They have no clue about what it is really like to live here full time

Lebanon is not a Muslim country. It is around 40% Christian. IME with knowing many Muslims over the years, many drink despite the rules, just like many Catholics use BC despite the rules.

I agree about how the women who are planning to marry and live in certain countries that have restrictions on alcohol, attire for women, laws on public conduct, etc.  REALLY need to consult with a legal professional BEFORE they get married.  Good luck on just winging it.

Tim doesn't seem to be into Jennifer, even though he says she's beautiful. She picked up on it too.  She asked why he wouldn't look at her in the car.  It sure seems like a big effort just to have a fake lover/wife.  I didn't like how Jennifer verbally snapped in front of her kid though.  Her kid was imitating her by shaking her hand in a negative way towards Tim.  Not good.

I'm not sure what it is, but, I just don't buy that Tom or Tim are really looking for a wife at all.

I just wanted to say that Avery is not wearing a burka (I've seen a few comments around the board mentioning her burka). Burkas aren't from the Arabic parts of the world and are more of an Afghanistani and other parts of central Asia thing. There are garbs similar to the burka in the Arab world, but Avery isn't even wearing one of them either.

That is unfortunate. I have a had a lot of great Indian food there. Unfortunately, there will always be some bad ones, especially when there are so many. I am lucky that I am usually with London friends so they steer me in the right direction.

Was Darcy drunk every time they showed her walking or does she not know how to walk in sky high heels??  If you can't walk in them, DON'T WEAR THEM!!  Watching her teetering around was just stupid and not sexy at all.  I wear a lot of heels, but I don't walk like that unless I've had several shots of tequila!!

I don’t really like Avery’s mom. I guess it is hard seeing your child change but she acts like not drinking alcohol is a bad thing. The way she turned up her nose at eggplant. Lots of religions support “traditional values” but people don’t practice them that way. I recently went to a Christian wedding where there was a lot about the “head of the household” and I know the groom, he is a decent guy.

I can see why Avery may be trying to “defect” from her family as her mom is a piece of work.

ETA: why doesn’t  that kid in Columbia wear the seat belt in her car seat? I mean WTF, why bother with the car seat then?

Something about the Cesar and Maria story didn’t ring true to me. I had a hard time believing anyone could be that stupid.  Seeing him running around an international airport that just happened to be empty was the final nail in the coffin. I mean there wasn’t another soul at that unmoving carousel. Plus, he put the ring in his checked bag.  Really? This is clearly a scripted story line. The producers at TLC seem to think that viewers of this show are stupid.

All that you said. Also, wasn't there something in an earlier episode about however many siblings, half siblings, and grandparents that all lived under one roof? Nothing wrong with a large household, but I can see how that would feel chaotic and why a person would want to get out.

Mother Avery, back off and be polite. This is your daughter's current choice and whether you like it or not, she is old enough to make her own choices and mistakes.

She is old enough that she should be able to make her own choices and mistakes, however the show has made it clear that she is not. There has been no mention of education, job, career goals, she lives with her parents. At this point any movement in her life needs to be enabled by her parents.

Avery is a twit. She obviously so badly craves attention from her mother and Omar is just a pawn she’s using to get it. She asked him what he thought of every dress she tried on and it seemed she was almost salivating to get him to say something negative. When he suggested that the one dress was too tight, he even turned to her mom and asked, “right?”

For the record, that dress was too tight, it was not flattering on her at all. Watching the show I said to myself that that dress would be cute if it was a size or two larger.

I think Mother Avery is a bit too blunt about things.  But, I see her as mother who sees her young, immature, impulsive, naive daughter potentially making a terrible and possibly even fatal (if she goes to war torn Syria) mistake.

It seems to me like she is both asking some legitimate questions and trying to see if she can get Omar to show Avery another side.

The situation is really bizarre when you think about it.  Avery converted to Islam 6 months ago (does anyone know why?) and since then has decided to spend the rest of her life with a man from halfway across the world, who she knows almost nothing about and had never met, and who lives in one of the world's most dangerous war zones.

Also, they are supposed to be married in a couple of days.  It is not like Avery has time to get to know him and spot any possible red flags for herself.   If they were going to date for 6 months or even if she was bringing Omar to the USA on a 90 day visa before the wedding, she would have more time to be more subtle and polite.  But, IMO, this is an emergency situation.  Maybe there is nothing wrong with Omar and things will turn out great.  But, she only has days to find out if there is something horribly wrong.

All that you said. Also, wasn't there something in an earlier episode about however many siblings, half siblings, and grandparents that all lived under one roof? Nothing wrong with a large household, but I can see how that would feel chaotic and why a person would want to get out.

The mom also brought home 2 medium carry-out pizzas for something like 5 grown-ups.

My god, just ask him to fuck you. You are a grown woman, what is with this high school coy shit about having sex with a man you are allegedly in a committed relationship with?

She doesn't want to ask because she had this whole trip planned out in her head:  she'd arrive in UK and Tom would propose in the airport.  Anything other than that is problematic.

Her ex, I understand, is a 50-year-old white guy who fancies himself as a rapper. Yet he is considered the more suitable parent to have custody of the girls.

Both Darcey and Stacey picked losers to marry and they were both homely so I guess they were just looking to be supported.

The way she turned up her nose at eggplant

There are so many delicious eggplant dishes, I don’t get why so many people have hangups about it.  Is it the name?  The color?  The texture?

If you are an unadventurous eater, try eggplant Parmesan .  Almost identical to chicken parm.  Baba ghanoush is just a hair more exotic than hummus.  Hell, I have had delicious grilled eggplant at a backyard barbecue.

Yup, I would LOVE it a lot if a man said he felt like he was babysitting me.

Definitely babysitting! After he fed her at the restaurant, he gave her a bottle, put her to bed and probably read her a bedtime story about a princess being rescued by a knight in shining armor.
