Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

So I wonder if this means he bailed or if he was never there in the first place.

Maybe it was an alien abduction. The good people of the Zeta Reticuli star system have mastered light speed travel, time travel, and have still not solved the mystery of this person receiving such social prominence. So they had no choice but to Rapture Josh up with a tractor beam from a strip joint parking lot for close scientific analysis.

My quote thing is acting up today, but I'm in with cherrio' s game. If you don't pay the "lady of the night" a recording telling you how sweet and special you are plays while you are smacked with the wooden spoon. My kindle must be filled with fundie spirits today. It wouldn't let me type the word that starts with an h. It kept changing it to Booker.

I have a friend who saw Anna at Target on Sunday. She took a pic but it's from the back. She had two sister nannies with her.

I know it's always possible that Anna wanted her sister nannies (love that term) to come with her. I wouldn't even blame her if she did. She's probably exhausted so she could welcome the help or she could want reinforcements in case the tabloids show up. But the skeptical side of me thinks she doesn't have a choice. Now that Josh is gone she's a child again. She must be with someone at all times and under constant supervision because she can't be trusted to be alone without a man to tell her what to do and protect her. Something pretty disgusting and ironic about that.

I have to cut Anna some slack here.  If I were her I would not want to venture outside without some friendly support.  And let's face it- the "sister nannies" know what it is like to be wronged by Josh too.  I'd like to think they are having a real bitchfest when JB and Michelle aren't around to hear them.

The law of the state where they live applies, not where they were married.

There are a very few states which allow covenant marriage as an alternative to conventional marriage, and if you want one, you have to specifically request one. If the state they got married in doesn't have covenant marriage, they don't acquire one when they move into a jurisdiction which allows them.

Personally, I think they would have mentioned it if Josh and Anna had one, when you consider what a fuss they made about Jill and Jessa having them.

From everything I've read, Josh and Anna don't have a covenant marriage as they were married in Florida (which doesn't have them) and didn't apply for one when they were living in Arkansas.

I know it's unlikely ever to be put to the test but I always wonder if a covenant marriage is actually Constitutional. I mean, 2 versions of marriage based on making one harder to get out of? Or is it based on the theory that marriage is a contract and different contracts can have different clauses? I find so many things these people believe in to be very strange and contradictory. Like how they say they want less government regulation when it comes to gun control but MORE government regulation when it comes to birth control.

If someone saw Anna at Target on Sunday, I guess that means that the Duggars don't believe that Sunday is the Lord's Day and you shouldn't do anything except go to church? (Or is shopping at Target on Sunday OK but working at Target on Sunday makes you a heathen?)

I'm not sure why a covenant marriage is really any different than a prenup. It makes an agreement prior to marriage about what will happen if the marriage goes south. You aren't required to have one so it's something you agreed to. There are many ways to get out of the marriage even if you have a covenant marriage and I'm sure that just like a prenup a good lawyer can get it tossed.

One thing I did find when looking through it. You can take on the bounds of a covenant marriage after you've been married so I guess it's possible Josh and Anna have one now although I agree with the poster who said I think they would have made a big deal of it during Jill's wedding if Josh and Anna had gotten themselves one. Of course if Anna ends up wanting a divorce, even if they have a covenant marriage she will be able to get one because adultery is an allowed reason for a divorce

Heathens and sinners have prenups, but godly and jebus-fearing folks have the covenant marriages.  But only in 3 states.  And only if they know about it.  And only if they ask for it.  And only if their preacher knows what it is.  And I'll bet it costs extra.

I really do not get the covenant marriage.  (Well, I totally understand it was a lobbying thing- but I don't understand why any religious person would think it was necessary.)

I was married in the Catholic church.  My marriage was a sacrament. If we divorce (for non-biblical reasons) it is a sin. Who cares that the state says it is okay? God (well assuming you're into that thing) says it isn't.

I don't need the state to set up guidelines to make it harder for us to divorce.  GOD already made those guidelines for us.

But you are approaching this with reason and logic. The idea behing a covenant marriage sounds like a way to oneup your neighbor.

I still remember Anna being very haughty about cloth diapering, and using that to justify something else (driving a hummer).

Yeah I don't get that either. Like you said, it seems like the only people who would be interested in it would already have a different reason for opposing divorce that has nothing to do with the state. Weird. With respect to the Duggars, the fact that they can't see the irony in needing the government to enforce their own religion on them really underscores how clueless they are, in my mind.

Okay, the covenant marriages and how other religion deals with the prospect of divorce topic has been interesting, but we have beaten the poor horse to death to the point of no return. Lets move the covenant and religion point of view discussion to the Religion thread please. Thank you.

For the Duggars shopping at Target is ok on Sunday, but if you go to Trader Joes, you are a heathen headed strait to hell. ;)

I agree. If Anna wants the sister nannies around, then that's great. I totally see that. My worry is that she doesn't have a choice. If she gets the sisters around her that are willing to bitch with her, then great. If she gets only the ones there to make sure she's not thinking about anything other than waiting for Josh, then it's just a way to control her.

Ugh.  That made me really dislike Anna.  Added to that was her eye-rolling and "judge-y eyes" (thank you, Megan Edmonds, RHOC), when they were in the Ethiopian restaurant in D.C. and when they went to Josh and Boob's trainer's church.   It just gave me a little insight into who she really is.

But isn't Target making their toy section gender neutral? You'd think the Duggars would be out there protesting the idea that boys can play with dolls and girls can play with cars, not shopping there.

I think it's a toss-up on whether Anna actually wants the company of others, or simply wants to be left alone.  Some people, no matter the situation, cannot be completely comfortable on their own and without other people around.  Others absolutely adore being able to decide when and where they want to interact with the world at large.  That's me, and it's a completely foreign thing to my SIL, who can barely be alone for the time it takes her to shower.

We don't know if Anna and the littles are living separately from the main Duggar hive, or if she's with them in their own place.  I'll admit, I'm curious about it.

It's the middle of the night and I'm giggling into my pillow in a hotel room trying not to waken my kids. I just managed to stifle my way through the Cake references and then you hit me with this! Too much!

How sweet, precious did I say special yet that you chose to fellowship with us  while on vacation!

I find it completely strange she is at Target.

I sometimes feel like I am in hell when shopping at Trader Joe's.  Does that count?  When the lines are really long, I feel like I am slowly moving through Dante's circles of hell.  The again, one of our local Target stores is always really warm inside.  Maybe that's the true hell.  Dammit! Now I'm seeing hell everywhere!  What have the Duggars wrought upon me?

Believe me, the Hell WalMart on Black Friday would be a walk in the park compared to the Union Square Whole Foods on a weeknight.

I didn't think much of that since everyone I know who uses cloth diapers is very haughty about it.

Well, yeah, but  while there are advantages in cloth over disposable (not as many now that they're starting to make biogradable disposable, but still), energy efficiency is not one of those advantages. Washing and sterilizing diapers is actually less energy efficient than disposable. So when Anna announced that she was driving a car which gets diesel mileage in the low single figures to transport 4-6 people but she was balancing it with cloth diapers, well, not so much.

Sure. I totally get the.comparison. Because I drink a fifth of whiskey every morning and balance it out with a bowl of organic granola. #duggarlogic

If you pour the whiskey on the granola, you'll save time.

Maybe that kind of thinking was behind all the paper plates. "We're using all this disposable dinnerware, but think of all the water we're saving by not having to wash everything!"

Last night, I watched the episode where Anna is getting all three kids ready to go to the grocery store. It's the episode where she stocks up on prepackaged, processed Thanksgiving foods to feed the Duggar's. As she is shoving Marcus into his coat, she reminds him that they are going to practice impulse control while shopping. She asks him how they practice impulse control and little Marcus doesn't know. Anna tells him, it's Instant Obedience and the frightened, little shaking head on Marcus made me scared for him. Years ago, I attended a conservative christian church, and they were doing a class on the Pearl's book and the talk was all about Instant Obedience and,of course, plenty of spanking.

Well, to be fair kalamac, Josie licks her food straight off the countertops, so I guess that cuts down on the dish washing, disposable plates,  and water use.

What are the odds that the porn star Josh supposedly had sex with - her last name is Dillon.  Amy's husband-to-be's first name is Dillon, and then there's Derek Dillard. And Jill and Derek use the term "Dilly" and Amy's fiance calls himself KingDillPickle, and the Duggars are known for loving pickles. It's just kinda weird!

I've been to Paragould many times, although I haven't in a very long time.  There's nothing much of interest there for outsiders.  A couple of technical colleges and a satellite campus of Arkansas State and that's about it.  Oh, and one of John Wayne's grandsons lives there.  I can't think of a reason to fly there unless you're running drugs, although if you were going to do that, you'd land on one of the many cropduster landing strips instead of using Kirk Field.

My best guess would be that the Paragould flight was a charter rather than personal business.  Unless that's where Josh really is (or was taken to meet other transportation there) and the Rockford flight was the misdirection.

Poor Pricilla,I actually feel sad when I see her,she was obviously placed with David for a reason.

Your choice of words was perfect - and interesting. I also believe Priscilla and David were "placed" with each other.

Very curious if Josh is at RU, another rehab, hiding back at home, or wherever. Too bad none of us are on the ground, because the super-sleuthing that happens on this board is pretty amazing.

Tonight's the RU freak show live steam. I'll probably tune in to see if Josh is there. I swore he was there last week. Striped shirt. 4th row.

Wow- I just realized today is Friday and not Saturday.  I was wondering why there was so much traffic this morning.
