Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Wonder who took that photo of Nurie and Nathan, in whose kitchen, and how it got to Susanna. I'd love it if it was sent by Nathan to bypass Jill.

Jill must be tearing her hair out (not hard to do in its current state). I hope she drinks down all her Plexus profits.

I figured they were at Susanna's house, playing Yahtzee. Maybe its Nurie's kitchen. Does Susanna live nearby?

I was thinking that too. It looks like she has gained some weight, and I mean that entirely in a good way. And if she has, that is 2 out of 2 Rodrigues children who automatically gained weight after leaving home. But yes, Jill, just keep telling us it's because they are all naturally skinny.

I think her improved appearance is just the poor lighting, guys. Her arms and jawline still look as thin as ever. I hope she does gain some healthy weight, but I don't think it's happened yet.

Yeah that could be. What a sad commentary on these poor kids that they're so thin and poorly that bad lighting can make them look healthier. 😞

Any bets as to how many of those pamphlets are going to be tossed into the trash without being read?  What a waste of time and someone else's money.

Mostly all of them.

It would be cheaper to go door to door. They don't need to knock;just put them in the door.

I guess the goal is to win more gifters to Jesus

Mailing those cards means a bit of revenue for the USPS. Which is fine IMO. And I'm sure creates less litter than if they decided to plaster them all over town by putting them on car windshields in parking lots, dropping them off on porches, etc. Though all those cards will end up in the trash, with maybe a few put into a recycling stream somewhere.

I wonder how much profit is actually made (for the Rods) from something like this. I’m sure they do it all for the Lord, not the money, but if this is how David is supporting the family, I have questions. It’s not like he is putting out anything that a 15 year old couldn’t do with basic software and a Kinko’s.

Chelsy Bontrager Maxwell has a new blog post about her sister Allison's wedding. Allisonwedding

Allison got married over three weeks.  The pictures make it look like a beautiful wedding, but I watched the livestream and it was the worst wedding I've watched or been to.

Allison's dress and veil were beautiful and made by an Etsy seamstress.

Chelsy got her bridesmaid dress from Citrus and Lemon!

The last picture is of the Bontragers; Marlin and Becky, their 10 kids, 5 in-laws including the groom, 6 grandchildren.  (Carolina was heavily pregnant with the newest grandchild Jemima Virtue!)  Chelsy says this about the picture:

"This is one of my very favorites of the professional pictures, because it is such an example of God's goodness to my family! Only five years ago we were a tribe of twelve--two parents and ten very single singles. 😃 At the beginning of 2016, my parents began to very seriously fast and pray for marriages in our family. And what do you know, as my dad would say, "they started dropping like flies". 😃

Four of us got married in 2017, making our number 16.

Two grandbabies arrived in 2018, making our number 18.

Two more grandbabies in 2019, making our number 20.

Another marriage and three more grand babies in 2020, at the time of this post, with granddbaby #8 arriving, Lord willing, in early December.

By the end of 2020, our clan of original 12 will have just over doubled to the number of 25! Wow!"

Thanks for the update.  At least Chelsey looked & seemed happy for her sister's big day. She usually looks sour & unhappy in the pictures with her in- laws, the Maxwells.  (I can't blame her, I would too with that group.) I think a lot of people are happier being around their own family especially when they live far away from one another.

Those glasses (of water) need coasters, but I think there are rings on that table..... so...too late.

Ugh on the candy. Hands digging in ? No scoops or spoons?

The room looks dark and smokey, dice on the table, drinks, Nurie's hand almost in "hit me" mode......is this the Fundie version of a casino?

I'm sorry for their loss, but I really didn't need artsy-fartsy posed photos to accompany the announcement.  The Bates girls just seem so superficial and phony.  Everything has to be turned into 'likes'.

Most people on SM are like that. It’s pretty sad. It’s all about getting followers/clicks.

I'm sorry for their loss, too. I also inexplicably feel bad for Willow, who's first birthday had to be shared with the announcement of another sibling, when it should have been all about her (even though she won't remember any of it). It's the same way I feel about people proposing at wedding receptions, it's selfish and annoying.

The church may get a reduced postage rate.

They do. It's about 8 cents per postcard. Did anyone post those? They're horrible.

Didn't see it. The postcard is slides 3&4.

No Jill and David were hired by the church to send out mailers to try to get people to come to church. The information isn't about Jill and David, it's about how you should worship God and join this church, which is not owned by Jill and David.

I don't even know why Janessa is on stage in the first place. She's too young for this. And note that almost all the kids in the Sunday School group are Rodspawn.

The little boy in front is the cutest!

Are you sure Jill thinks that she doesn't own it?

I mean like WTF is that??  I could see maybe a nightgown, but it's just an ODD dress...

It looks like whatever Jill could find to throw on her.

The younger kids look like they dress in thrift store rejects

Oh gosh, I looked at the cards. Yep, they are horrible. Bloody Jesus on the cross. And the use - certainly unintentional - of scare quotes. Like: I CAME - because of "your" sin and YOU MUST TRUST - putting your "complete" faith in Jesus Christ.

At eight cents apiece, that's four grand of revenue for USPS so it's not all bad.

Good lord, the Duggar girls need to teach the Rodriguii how to properly thrift. You don’t just grab something just because it’s cheap. These little  girls always look like rag pickers.

i am happy that Nurie seems to be thriving. I would love if she could have just Kaylee, Renee, and Tessie come to visit. Of course, Mama wouldn’t even let one of them be Nurie’s Maid of Honor, so there is no way she would let them visit without her

Why did they dress that little girl in a red shroud?

Jill shops at Handmaids Kidz. No, but that’s clearly a knee-length dress or tunic for a teen or grown woman that Jill has poorly hemmed at the bottom and sleeves. Maybe one of Nurie’s old numbers that she left behind.

This reads like the subtitle of a p0rn flick called, "NIKE!"

I was reading some Twitter discourse yesterday about a still of Oscar Isaac from the upcoming Dune movie, and this fits the discourse.

Here's the picture for reference

My kids loved getting the mail. I'd be one pissed of momma if my young kids ever saw that postcard.

I'd complain if that tract came to my house through the mail or left at the door. I don't think it would be welcome by most people in the town where I live or very effective at persuading anyone, but things may be different in Jill's neck of the woods.

Those quotation marks are annoying.

I bet this project was the Rods' idea, and their contribution was free labor provided mostly by their malnourished children. It may increase traffic at the Church of the Giant Neon Sign (a result that Jill will gladly take credit for), but I doubt most people would leave their own churches, and non-church people are unlikely to be impressed. I'm glad the Post Office made some money, though.
