It was on social media, but I don't remember if it was a response to a post on the blog or Instagram. But she definitely made that claim after Gothardgate.

On their blog. Weirdly, they have a photo of the actual cake, complete with "Happy Birthday Mr. Gothard" topper, captioned "Groom's Cake."

Yeah, Kelly, lots of Grooms cake say Happy Birthday with someone else's name on it. Way to cover.

I was hoping to find the picture(s) of Michelle helping with the wedding prep. Either Kelly was oblivious or it was a straight up dig at Michelle. Erin's wedding was featured on 19 & Counting and the older girls were filmed helping Erin getting dressed and Michelle was filmed helping in the kitchen. On the show it felt fake and forced. Anyway Kelly posted a picture of Michelle helping in the kitchen and the next picture posted was almost the exact same picture but the spot where Michelle was 'helping' was empty. It felt to me that Kelly was showing that Michelle's help was only for filming and Michelle split the minute the cameras did.

I remember how the J'Slaves kept trying to insert themselves into the wedding prep and the Bates girls gave off a vibe like they really didn't want them there. Of course, they had to fake it for the cameras because paychecks and all, but yeah, I don't think the two families are as buddy-buddy as they make it appear.

On the first Duggar episode in which the Bateses appeared, didn't one or the other patriarch say the families hadn't seen each other for years? I think the "friendship" was made for television, and then maybe the Duggarlings and Bateslings realized some of them did enjoy each other's company. They're short on IRL friends already, and it makes sense that they'd latch onto whatever new friends they made.

The "Duggars helping" schtick is complete fiction.

More likely, no one wanted the Gothard perverts around anymore so they teamed up. Plus it's good TV.

Kelly Bates,

Regarding your Grooms Cake, which is clearly labeled Happy Birthday Mr Gothard.

Jesus said:

Mark 10:19-21 (KJV)

19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

And if I remember right, they sang Happy Birthday to the child molester.

I was raised IFB and have hundreds of verses memorized and can pull them out easily to shine a light on the fake filthy Christianity. I don't even have to argue with people.  I can post verses all day. Too bad they would all block me or I could tweet them when I'm stuck waiting in the car for my kids. Ha!

I see you are a duggarfan -do you have some inside information regarding your statement to share with the group?  I know that sounds snarky, but, not really, just wondering.  Thanks.

Insider information? No. I'm not an insider, merely a fan of the Duggar family. Do you have any information (insider or otherwise) that Mr Gothard knew he would be presented with a cake at Erin and Chad's wedding?

It may have been since they knew he’d be traveling to attend the wedding on his birthday, and Gil worked for him, that it might have looked “wrong” not to acknowledge his birthday, even though he’s a smarmy foot fetishist.

I was just wondering how close you were to them.  I have no insight into who knew or didn't know or who asked or didn't ask for that cake!!

I'm not close to them at all. I'm just a longtime admirer of their family. Of course, that doesn't mean I agree with everything they say or do, because I certainly don't, but I do admire them in a lot of ways for a variety of things.

I am watching Family Feud, and there is an obnoxious family on there. The one guy is announcing his sisters-in-law and twin sister had two kids under the age of two, and another sister-in-law had three kids under the age of three. My first thought was who gives a rat's you know what, and my next thought was this would be something the Duggars would do. I can picture JB with Michelle, Anna, Jill, Jessa, and Joy or Jinger announcing how many children they each had, or they are in the family way. The one sister-in-law was going on and on about how much she likes the HGTV and cooking shows while talking about how she messed up cooking dinner for her boyfriend now husband. My first thought was Jill or Jessa would do the same blasted thing. My husband kept saying shut up while the one woman was talking, and I think Sassy meowed and rolled her eyes. Ha!

Weird.  Maybe its an Erin/Chad/Gothard polyandry grouping!  That's my story and I am sticking to it!

Bill Gothard was accused of many women of molesting them. According to Wikipedia, it's as high as 34 different women have made allegations of Gothard harrassing them. The women seem to have filed allegations in smaller groups, but there are quite a lot of them. Considering Gothard's beliefs of "eye traps" and being "defrauded",  the culture seems to spread the blame towards women. Its' possible that more women who've had bad experiences with Gothard and don't feel they can come forward.

I found it gross that the kids slept in yesterday's clothes and started their new day in the same clothes.  And not just comfortable tee shirts.  Jackson worse a plaid button up shirt with a vest TO BED!  Sheer lazy parenting.  Or way too many kids!

Jackson is also sleeping in Jana’s bed.

1461 mm is 0.001461 km, although I think it’s an odd question. Would the computer program explain how whoever miscalculated? The easiest way to calculate it would be to convert it to 146.1 cm which equals 1.461 m, and then figure out 1.461 m /1000 m. The simplest way would be 1.461/1000 (in metres) = 0.1461/100 (in lots of 10 metres) = 0.01461/10 (in lots of 100 metres) = 0.001461 (in lots of 1000 metres or 1 kilometre). Or they could move the 000 in front of the 1.461 and keep the decimal point where it is. It helps to use pencil and paper. That’s how I would have done it when I was ten.

That’s just gross! Isn’t that lad 15? After all this talk about male children being “defrauded by observing a diaper change”.  I guess the cheapness of Boob trumps any family teaching.

He was 5 at the time.

Smarmy Mike Munro was 59.

Sucks they weren't sent Mark Ferguson. He was super hot.

2009 video

This stuff that JB says in this vidoe is directly from the white supremacist playbook (I'm not saying that JB is a white supremacist, he may have heard this stuff from Gothard, but it's still scary).

It's at about 4:40 where he explains that the right sort of people need to have children to maintain the population or there will be "lots of problems." He, of course, can't actually explain what those problems will be, and I don't know if it's because he can't remember what Gothard told him, or because he doesn't want to say racist things on camera. Again, it's scary.

100% agree there is a racist subtext to qf. I think part if the debt-free, self reliance, goody goody issue is to prove you're better than 'those people' who are all on welfare and criminals. It's a huge political scam to take control of the government.

I do think there's a racist subtext. But I'd say that this group also goes beyond just wanting darker-skinned people to avoid having children.

They want anybody who doesn't embrace the correct Jesus to have as few children as possible, too. Because, after all, if we fill up the world -- whether we're white or darker -- we're just making it harder for them to get to the Final Days and the great heroic battle they're going to be triumphant in and their great reward in the hereafter.

Basically, they're trying to outpace the vast majority of us on this planet when it comes to producing offspring. ... And even with SOTDRT "training" they have to know that they're outnumbered to start.

No wonder JB and M were hoping for those 200 grandbabies.

If any of you haven't yet, I recommend checking out the documentary Jesus Camp.  I think it's still available on Netflix streaming.

This is all over the news today: 13 Children Held Captive By Parents

The similarities?  Double digit family (leave the size up to god), home schooled, isolated from mainstream entertainment, uber religious with the kids having to memorize bible passages (and in this case entire books of the bible).   I know a lot of fundies have problems with child abuse and this family is obviously far at the "bad end" of that spectrum but it's a sad day when something like this makes the Duggars look positively progressive by comparison.

I don't think JB and Michelle would have ever abused their kids like this but it does make you wonder what their lives would look like if there was no TV show, no TTH for them to spread out a little, no Jeremy for Jinger because nobody outside of Tontitown knows they exist, no media spotlight on Josh the porn king.  There's no way to know but knowing this family has secrets even with what we see on the show it really does make me wonder what they would have been without it.

I immediately thought of the Duggars (and the Rodriguez family) when I heard about this. The picture of the mother reminded me of Michelle.

I too saw the story of those poor 13 kids. My first thought was this is Jill R's future (not the torture part, just the kid hoarding and the control over them). Those kids look better feed then the R kids. When will a service agency open their eyes to the R kids?

A comment I read on FB. I should have copied it. But in summary, people questioned why the older kids didn't leave, the poster said something about those kids having loyalty to the one that controls them. Very chilling. This is why fundie kids never leave I believe.

If those kids have been treated like that their whole lives, they probably aren't aware they could leave.  They probably just have no concept of freedom.
