Small Talk: The Prayer Closet

Message added by Scarlett45

This is a reminder that the Politics Policy is still in effect.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss political social media posts of those in the Duggar realm- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Political discussion is not allowed in this forum- this includes Small Talk topics. Please stay in the spirit of the policy- I have noticed a tendency for some to follow the letter but not the spirit.

Message added by CM-CrispMtAir,

While we understand the frustration (change is never easy), please keep in mind that not everyone feels the same way and that for those members who don't, the ongoing conversation about other forums and chat options can equally be a cause of frustration.

Out of respect for your fellow posters, we kindly ask that you continue any discussion about alternatives via PM or the Technically Speaking: Bugs, Questions, & Suggestions area.

@jjane Your niece sounds toxic. It sounds like one of those “no good deed goes unpunished” types of things. I feel terrible for you. She totally took advantage of the situation. How did her child react to what happened? It also sounds as though she has a feeling of entitlement. How kind of you to take her and for your husband to keep her one dog and travel the hours commute each day to care for her others. It sounds like you have some hard thinking about letting her live in your deceased brothers home. She sounds destructive and I’d get a police escort to go in there to access what the place looks like now versus how she may leave it when the time comes. Take photos and get the officers name that accompanies you. If she acts up they can take charge as you have a legal right to go in there. I don’t know what your states laws are, but you might need to give her a 24 hour notice. This is not going to help your health either and that makes me angry with her for causing you unnecessary angst. It would be nice if this could be worked out, but she doesn’t sound like a reasonable adult. She also may need a professional evaluation and some counseling or medications. You need a vacation from that vacation. My heart goes out to you.

@jjane your niece knows you love her girl and would do anything for her. That’s why she acts like that. She knows you will continue to be treated like crap because of your love for her baby.  Unless you are willing to say goodbye to both you are stuck until the baby turns 18.

She got herself a good deal doesn’t work and yet has what she needs to survive.

Best of wishes for you.

Jjane, how old is your grandnice? Is she getting close to an age where she can legally leave her mom? I know they are an adult at 18 but can they leave younger than that?

@jjane said her niece was 14.

I 100% agree that you should protect yourself legally and physically. Given what user scum your niece sounds like, would she be willing to sign over legal guardianship for her daughter to you for money or the right to continue living on the property? I worry for the daughter (even more than you), having to live with someone like that. She’s at such a vulnerable age and she make seek out any way to get away from her mother- and be vulnerable to people that would exploit her.

IDK but I have detested that bitch since the Real World.

I had to look it up, and yes she was obnoxious on her run, especially compared to Julie and Jon in the first 2 seasons.  It's like casting thought the first 2 Christians they had didnt pan out the way they envisioned,  so they had to find someone who was a Christian in name only.

I fear poor Jana will be married off to a guy like that. Widower with a bunch of kids.

Little late responding but yes, Jana is heading down that road. I actually thought of Jana too.

I never watched Andrea Mills like a fan.  I knew of her and her family. I'm going to keep a closer eye on him.  I bet he will be remarried soon...wonder which fundie girl will be the bride?

I’m on the train home and this guy standing next to me keeps FIDGETING. It’s the train at rush hour. We all have no personal space, I’m just trying to hold on to the bar so I don’t fall. Dude!!!!!

yes I’m aware there are medical conditions that make people fidget. Maybe he has one. Maybe he has social anxiety, but I don’t have personal space to give him.

@Christina87 I'm so happy  that everything is going well for you at your new school.  You have been in my thoughts all week.  Your new students are so lucky to have you.  How has it been teaching the different grade levels vs just middle school? (I think I have that correct.)

Well, I’m on hurricane watch. I’m the type of person who’s had canned goods, bottled water, and batteries since June. I’ve gassed up the cars and recharged all my external chargers . So take that, Dorian (pflatt! 😝)

I never had chick fil a and I want some so bad.

Anyone eat there?

To be honest, it's a fried chicken sandwich or chicken nuggets.  It's a good chicken sandwich, but still a chicken sandwich.  The ones around me are always so busy, that I hate to even go there.  The drive-thru is ridiculous at lunch time, and the lobby is full of other people's children misbehaving.  If I need to have fried chicken and fries, then I go to Bojangles or McDonalds.

I won't eat there because of the founder's vocal anti-LGBTQ stance.

I do love a good fried chicken sandwich, however.

I love their nuggets. The Chik Fil A where I live is always mobbed, but the counter staff are really efficient. I've never had an excessive wait to get my food.

That sounds absolutely disgusting.

It's a brine which is a common technique in fried chicken and other poultry.   I'm not a fan of their chicken nuggets because they don't have any fillers in them.  It's just chicken and breading.  I grew up eating questionable chick'n nuggets, and when I crare them I want the fillers.

You really cannot discount Michelle's inherent laziness when it comes to this issue.  I have many conservative Christians who may also homeschool that utilize my library.  I have seen the parents look over the books their child chose and have the final decision in checking the books out.  I have seen parents and guardians bring books back a day later because they looked over the books at home and decided they were inappropriate for their child.  All of this requires work which Michelle was unwilling to do.

I have always said, I was super lucky growing up, insofar as my mother cherished this ridiculous idea that the librarians were monitoring the books I checked out of the library for appropriateness.

Granted, lurid covers wouldn't have worked out well for me, but secreting two in a stack of twelve if they had tame or nonexistent dust jackets was easy.

It isn't just a brine.  There is definitely dill in there and I can't stand dill anything.  It's very gross to me.

Today was G’s last day. My mom gave her a small bonus with her last check, and took the house key. I have a new key chain for it to give to M on Wednesday.

My Mom told G if she had any questions about her medical care feel free to call her. (She’s a physician) G starts dialysis after the holiday.

16yrs is a LONG TIME, in another 16yrs I’ll be 49 and my sister will be 47, and my Mom 87. I’m sure she will be fine, she loved M when M was here for the interviews and trainings. Who knows how much she understands but we told her G was leaving for weeks now.

Im really in my feelings.

I’m old - does that mean you’re feeling emotional?

The chicken is marinated in dill pickle juice which makes Chik-fil-A inedible for me.

Well, I'm glad I know that....I've never eaten there, but based on how many people love it, I was tempted. Now I'm not. There are very few foods I really don't care for, but things involving vinegar make up a good chunk of them.

When I was growing up, I lived barefoot all summer. So did most of my friends.

I'm still barefoot most of the time I'm outside. Actually, it seems to be a thing lately...grounding...it's all rather new agey and woo-ish, but the thought is that being grounded (as in electrically) with the Earth is good for any number of ailments. And given how robust my immune system seems to be overall, I'm not about to discount the notion altogether. Heck, even how easily my brush with cancer seemed to play out, I feel as though my system is looking out for itself.

I like our Chik-fil-A. It is newer and very clean.  The staff is very polite.  I really like the grilled chicken salad, but friends say the chicken sandwich is good.  It is always very busy, but the staff is very efficient and I have not ever  had a long wait.  They have a special "kids room", so I have never found it too noisy where I am sitting.  I don't go very often, but I do enjoy it when I'm there.

I love all things Chik-fil-a (or Chik-a-fil as my mom used to say.)  Their sweet tea is one of my favorites as are the small breakfast chicken biscuits. Our local CFA is ready for the lunch & dinner crowds by having workers taking orders on a Mini I-pad standing in the drive thru lines rather than the customer having to give their order the usual way thru a speaker. Seems to be much quicker this way. The order takers have the capability of taking credit card payments or if paying by cash, there is a separate booth before the pick up window for that.  By time you get to window, you can just take your food & go. Much more efficient.

ETA:  I know other fast foods like McDonald's have separate payment & pickup windows. CFA is quicker since you can give your CC payment to the order taker at the  time your order is placed which saves another stop in the drive thru lane.

I find the Duggars' belief system appalling.  The founder of Chik-fil-a is even more troubling than the Duggars.  They back their hateful ways financially and don't try to hide their anti-LGBTQ beliefs.  I haven't been in one of their restaurants for 10 years.

Totally different topic, but TIL (Today I Learned - relearned, actually) that honesty really is the best policy.  A grade school group of 4 of us women have met once or twice a year for the last few years, for lunch.  We drive all over creation, which I hate and this spring one of our group suddenly passed away.  When there were 3, our differences (mostly political) seemed more glaring and I really dreaded the lunches.  Last week I came clean with the other 2 about it (not mentioning the political differences) and they were both lovely about it.  I think they were just going through the motions too.  I would have been more open to it if we'd been communicating between the lunches, but it was just lunches every 6 months to a year with no phone calls or visits in between.  That just wasn't working for me and it felt so good to get it out in the open and even better to have it received so well!  We are all staying in touch, but without the group obligation.  So, as Jill would say, "Yay!"  ☺️

Mindthinkr,  I saw Dorian has taken a more northerly turn last night. Are you and your family in the path now?

Every once in a while I just CRAVE Chick fil a for some reason. I'll donate to an LGBTQ charity to justify my lunch of hate chicken.

We had to visit Indiana while Pence's "Religious Freedom Restoration Act" was in force (it allowed discrimination against members of the LGBTQ community). We donated money to groups fighting the law to make up for what we spent in the state. My husband called it "liberal offsets."

When I opened the newspaper this morning I was surprised to see "Say yes to the Dress" as the top pick of the "best bets on tv" tonight.  Really?  Best thing to watch?    That just seems kind of sad.  It really is a low bar.
