Lantern7 December 12, 2019 Share December 12, 2019 (edited) Well, next week is gonna be a shitshow . . . maybe even worse than last season. Does anyone walk away from this season unmarked? Maybe even Rob and Sandra might feel tainted due to their involvement (or what little Sandra has done). Elaine . . . damn. Honestly, you figure if any older woman applies to play, their applications go into the trash. And she's got that belly, so you know Probst probably fought tooth and nail to keep her out. But the busted can of biscuits made it far into the game, and she got voted off because she was seen as too big of a threat. I reckon we can call this "the Old Yeller Vote." If the other players went with feelings, Noura would have been bounced. But nope, she only got votes from Elaine . . and Dan. You know, that seems symbolic of this season in general, where the Phlip Shepard-level loony is kept in the game for goat sacrificing purposes, and Feely Dan (I wish I came up with that) didn't want to do that. Dan, you fucking goon. Apparently, he fell off the wagon, and now he's out of the game. Worse, CBS probably has a hard-on to make next week a "Very Special Survivor Reunion." Low lighting, somber music, Probst "rapping" about sexual harassment in a way that makes use yearn for Sexual Harassment Panda from South Park. Like I said: next week? It's gonna be grisly as fuck. Idol from a coin flip? *sigh* Okay, on paper, IOTI seems like a good idea . . . but then you got stuff like flipping a coin and "you took the bait, you lose your vote," and it just unravels. And Rob is the one that does most of the talking. Why invite Sandra at all? She's been giving good snark from the balcony, but I feel she's been underutilized. cdnalor December 12, 2019 Share December 12, 2019 I found it odd that we saw Noura spinning around by herself on the beach and then the IC started off with a spinning challenge. Someone with a suspicious nature might think that production added the spinning to maybe give Noura a bit of an advantage to keep her in the game longer. It's no secret that loopy players like Noura make for a more "interesting" show. I can't wait for the reunion show to see how this Dan situation gets handled. 1 10 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805221

Paws December 12, 2019 Share December 12, 2019 If CBS has any sense, they can save themselves so much money by just quietly giving a million bucks to Tommy, Lauren, Dean and Noura and having them vote for Janet as sole survivor, because that’s the only way they can redeem themselves. I didn’t let my daughters watch survivor until a few seasons ago, and they’ve seen some crappy seasons (David v Goliath notwithstanding) and they’ve yet to see a female winner. If this was the bachelor they'd act the entire thing out for us using others to show us what happened. I realize that Survivor thinks they're more classy than that, but they could at least give us that. It depends if the victim asked for privacy and confidentiality, though. Of course, we don't know for sure if she did, or if producers chose to keep the details hush-hush, but I do want to have a little hope that they're not revealing a whole lot of details in favour of the victim. Of course, we kind of already got leaked the basics of what happened, anyway. Dan inappropriately touched a female member on production after an immunity challenge. Production took Dan aside and kicked him out. I think that's basically all we need to know. The only part that would give clarity is after which immunity challenge that this happened. If it was after F6 immunity, then the discussion and booting Dan happened within hours. If it was after F7 immunity, then there was some time in between for production to discuss and then kick Dan out, but that also depends on when the victim stepped forward. Either way, that information, or lackthereof, doesn't change the outcome; Dan was removed from the game and, thus, he won't be part of the jury and he likely won't be part of the finale at all. The fact that they tacked this on to this episode and not the finale goes to show that they probably won't be showing Dan at all next week, nor will they talk about him. However, even as I state the above, it also doesn't mean that they didn't colossally screw up by waiting this long for another incident to happen before finally removing him. They had so many instances and production chose not to act until now, which is entirely on them. Had Dan been removed earlier, we'd likely have a very different finale upon us. I know some people call winners edit for Tommy, but he sure is petulant and whiny. Saint Janet for the win! I guess I'd grudgingly accept Lauren because I like her better than Dean and Tommy. But I'm assuming the final 3 is Tommy, Dean and Noura. But I'm guessing Elaine'll be back. I was wondering what was going on with the timing of this episode. The commercial mid-tribal council really threw me off. Then I wondered if Elaine somehow got a never before mentioned Survivor version of the Tim Gunn save. Then we started again and I assumed it was a 2 hour night. And then that. I have lots of thoughts but many aren't coherent, but very happy (but sorry for the staffer). The reunion is going to be bizarre I bet. But as long as we can hear Cochran's thoughts on the whole thing, I'll be fine. From what I recall - Brandon Hantz went nutso after figuring out they were going to vote him out and had a tantrum that included dumping their rice and wrecking stuff, and then I guess they called Jeff (don't remember everything! 🙂 ) and he stood there with his restraining (yet friendly!) arm around Brandon while they reviewed what had happened, and then Jeff made them all orally vote him out right there and escorted him away. 1 hour ago, tvgoddess said: Aside from the wrongness of Dan being kept around this long and having another female violated (I'll think this until it's proven otherwise), a couple of hilarious moments from this episode. colorbars December 12, 2019 Share December 12, 2019 Going by that statement from People, about it being while getting on a boat and it being witnessed by other contestants, my guess is someone (I'm assuming a woman) on the crew was helping him up onto the boat and he decided to cop a feel under the guise of a joke or accident of some kind. What a creep. Loved that Kellee's statement expressed disappointment in how things were handled and she didn't praise CBS or the producers for how poorly they handled it. bamlou December 12, 2019 Share December 12, 2019 It's so frustrating and sad that this whole saga has stained what started as such a promising season, and that it took this long and another incident for production to finally do something about Dan. Jeff is being so cagey in interviews about how they plan to address these types of incidents and better protect players moving forward, and I think they need to be more direct and clear about what changes they're making, or how they're improving their HR process or something, to reassure me as a viewer that they won't let it go this far again and that they've heard the backlash and understand why so many fans are upset about how the situation has been handled. And in hindsight, it's now making me raise an eyebrow at the remaining players / jury members who have since said that they had no clue / been seemingly surprised by the backlash, when they at least knew Dan was ejected. For those who had heard about Dan making some of the girls uncomfortable - at the tribal where it was openly discussed, and particularly Missy and Elizabeth who leveraged it in their gameplay - wouldn't seeing Dan being removed from the game make them now start to re-assess those original accusations against him? Wouldn't you reflect at some point over the 7 months after the show and maybe have some concerns about some of your gameplay or what you said in light of Dan's forced exit, and maybe approach the episodes with some hesitation as they aired rather than feigning after-the-fact that you had a limited scope of the facts? Maybe I'm judging the players too harshly since it's difficult to truly know what and how all the info was communicated by production (and between players) and it's easier for me to judge from my couch vs. the unique experience playing this game. But I also find it harder now to excuse a lot of the poor behaviour and choices players made during/after filming as simply, 'I wasn't aware'. 20 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805335

Richness December 12, 2019 Share December 12, 2019 Ding dong, the bastard is gone! I was wondering about the odd placement of the advertisements surrounding tribal council. And when the show kept going after the nighttime torch walk, I was fearing that something really bad happened, like someone got seriously hurt. Well, something bad did happen, to a production member, but it's something good for the viewers as it means Dan's gone. Woo hoo! Too bad it's 11 episodes too late. With the obvious out of the way, here are my thoughts on a few other aspects of the episode. First, I fast forward through most of the Island of Idols build-up nonsense, most of the time at the island, and the follow-up nonsense once the contestant returns to the tribe. For several episodes now, I only watch the bare minimum to understand what's going on and what the outcome is. Second, as much as I've come to like Elaine, I fast forwarded through most of the tears at Tribal Council. Just like I don't want to hear the sob stories during family visits, I don't want to sit through tears at TC either no matter how touching the story might be. Third, as much as I'm sick of Boston Rob (and Sandra to a lesser extent), I did chuckle at Rob making fun of the stretch and flex guy. Fourth, while the editors usually give away stuff far in advance, they gave me some amusement during the Immunity Challenge. While one of the contestants was trying to spell "YOUR" (displayed on the screen as "YO R"), Jeff voice overs something about "You need to win," which I took to mean the missing "U" in "YOUR" and not "You". Fifth, did Disney pay for the "SITH" shout out in the IC word blocks so close to the release of "Rise of Skywalker"? However, given it was Dan's blocks, they probably don't want to be associated with the guy. All the Sith Lords out there should protest their unfortunate association with someone like Dan. Sixth, the entire Immunity Challenge was actually fairly amusing. I know lots of people love the "caller leading their blindfolded team through an obstacle course" challenge due to the hilarious pratfalls that occur. but the opening spin portion of this challenge seemed like a much nicer and less painful way to ensure hilarity ensues. I hope that have many more dizzy spin challenges in the future. If we're (un)lucky, they'll come right after a contestant has eaten, and someone will blow chunks. 2 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805442

From the above link: Quote Why Survivor Contestant Dan Spilo Was 'Removed' from the Game and What the 'Off-Camera' Incident Was The alleged incident happened when Spilo was getting on a transport boat after an immunity challenge By Steve Helling December 12, 2019 12:24 AM At the end of Wednesday night’s episode of Survivor: Island of the Idols, it was revealed that contestant Dan Spilo was removed from the game as a result of an undisclosed “incident.” The explanation that appeared on screen was nebulous: “Dan was removed from the game after a report of another incident, which happened off-camera and did not involve a player.” PEOPLE has spoken to multiple people involved with the show’s production, who confirmed that the incident in question — which involved a member of the show’s production team — happened after an immunity challenge as Spilo and other contestants were getting into a boat to transport them back to the camp. At one point, Spilo allegedly touched the female crew member’s leg. According to multiple sources, he insisted that the contact was inadvertent and accidental as he lost his balance while trying to get into the boat. At least one of the remaining contestants witnessed the incident. But the show’s production team wasn’t convinced that the contact was merely incidental. After consulting with the show’s legal team, producers eventually decided to remove him from the show. Kim was voted out of the game — and Spilo apologized, saying, “I work in an industry in which the #MeToo movement was formed and allowed — thank God — to blossom and become powerful and strong,” he said. “My personal feeling is if anyone ever felt for a second uncomfortable about anything I’ve ever done, I’m horrified about that and I’m terribly sorry.” In an interview with Entertainment Weekly published after Wednesday’s episode, Probst was asked to elaborate on the nature of the incident. He declined to give more details. “The question is a fair and reasonable one,” Probst responded. “I’ve endeavored to be as forthcoming as possible with you regarding everything that has happened this season. In this situation, out of respect for privacy and confidentiality, I can’t say anymore.” Neither CBS nor Spilo are providing additional comment at this time. One other thing I saw as a comment elsewhere that made me think... Cast members sign all sorts of waivers about how if something bad happens to them, they won't sue. The crew doesn't sign those. So a crew member complaining may be a LOT scarier to TPTB than a cast member. 8 11 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805444

Probst said something about Dan getting on the boat to leave. That was a bummer for me. I was hoping they'd taken him behind a production hut somewhere and uhhh… actually, I don't think I can post the rest of that thought without violating the TOS. But apparently I have too many old farmers in my family. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805453

It has to be more than just touching her leg, unless he grabbed her inner thigh high up, or they're using "leg" as a euphemism for some other body part. 8 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805462
violet and green December 12, 2019 Share December 12, 2019 Well, that blew chunks. I was so mad when Dean got the trip to see Rob (who I now love, wtf!) and Sandra, and won something useful, and then won Elaine's immunity.... So mad every time Tommy whined. So mad when they started ramping up the soulful violins to underline Elaine was definitely going... So mad when she went, but goddamn, she sounded so cute and lovable, she was like Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz - she's got to come back. Soon. So mad when I thought I'd only taped one half of a surprise double episode or something, when Jeff showed up - and then that shock announcement, blerk - and then there was no Elaine bounding up the beach like a happy puppy, "I'm back!! I am off Janet. I could almost handle Lauren winning at this point. Frankly, Noura would not be so bad, after all of this. Anyone but Dean or Tommy Van Gogh. 8 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805529

After last week i can’t stand noura, and now Elaine is gone . Sigh . Until last week with her ratting our Elaine for no reason i would have said that. Janet for the win. I take it this is the first time a player has been booted off ? I can't stand Noura, but she ratted out Elaine to save herself, after Dean ratted her out. But, they are also employees, doing real job, not contestants who signed up to play a sometimes crazy and brutal game, so they probably retain more legal rights. Also, Survivor probably doesn't want the names of their crew members to be public knowledge as it could lead to them getting hounded for spoilers. 8 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805557

It's gonna be sitting there like the biggest elephant in the room, ever. He should've been gone a long time ago. Elaine deserves a second chance, as does Kellee, if they want it. Kellee might not and I wouldn't blame her. It's just an awful situation. I think they plan on addressing it. The reunion show won’t be filmed live for the first time ever related to issues of security and sensitivity.... or something like that according to Probst in EW. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805578

Not just the handsy stuff but calling other people weirdos and losers and making faces behind their backs. I also haven't liked the way Janet has repeatedly defended Dan online and on twitter by telling people like us to, "Stop the hate." I'll hate anyone I want, thank you, Janet. Didn't Karishma look beautiful at tribal? If she was back I'd vote for her. 16 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805600

Why did they go to tribal council and wait until the next day to remove him? Maybe TPTB were hoping he'd be voted out anyway? But then sending him to Ponderosa would be another problem. I wonder when the people at Ponderosa found out about this. Were they told when it occurred or did they have to wait til the next TC to see him gone? 1 minute ago, JudyObscure said: Me too, so with Elaine gone, I really have no one to root for. Agreed. Elaine was the last person I felt I could root for. I appreciate that Janet was so compassionate with Elaine, but her buddying up to Dan even after the earlier blow up soured her for me. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805603

Not necessarily. With Dan's prior record of unwanted touching and the warning he was given, touching any part of a female crew member's leg could be grounds for ejection. His, "I stumbled and accidentally touched her" story sounds a lot like the BS excuses he made at the explosive tribal council about snuggling to keep from freezing or accidentally brushing into a woman while trying to get through a crowd. I wonder how often he has made those excuses in the real world? I could definitely see him as the type who "accidentally" gropes women at clubs, or on mass transit or elevators. 30 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805608
amazingracefan December 12, 2019 Share December 12, 2019 I'd be ok with Elaine coming back in a returnee season, she expresses herself quite well. Though I'm not sure painting herself as a big threat at tribal helped her. Even the sob story stuff could have got jury sympathy. Maybe she didn't have to play it as hard at that tribal as she thought, or maybe it was all decided anyway... Apart from the setup of Island of the Idols some of the tests are weird in themselves. Depending on a 50/50 coin toss is supposed to be a good move from what we were told, yet taking big risks before wasn't considered good. Maybe if he lost the coin toss the lesson would have been - be more cautious. 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805609

After her gaslighting, she might not know what the hell to believe. Also, even Kellee, the only one on record with a complaint was willing to work with Dan and target Missy. Janet took one bullet for Kellee, Missy and Elizabeth. I am not sure it is fair to expect her to keep taking bullets. She stood up much stronger against Dan's groping than the women who were actually groped. Karishma did clean up nice for jury duty. 20 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/104870-s39e12-just-go-for-it/page/3/#findComment-5805614
