She is the least pleasant person on that panel to be sure. Still, I'd like to thank whatever P.A. ground up a Xanax in her coffee this morning. I think her shrieking was down by about 43% from her usual average.

Keep up the good work, kiddo.

Regarding the McCain Rule in the forum. From the master mod note:

Quote

Were John or Cindy McCain brought up on the show? If yes, then you may discuss them in the context in which they were mentioned. If no, then they are completely off topic.

Seeing how MM mentions John McCain only within the context of his death (and more specifically, how it affects her), that is fine to be discussed. His politics, personal life, and anything else about him beside the fact that he is no longer alive, is off topic. Please PM me or @Princess Sparkle with any questions.

We need to at least try to understand being a "product of their time."  It's easier for me because I'm OLD...but it would take too much time to explain here and might be misunderstood.  Times change.  Customs change.  LAWS change. People change.  It never entered my innocent/uneducated mind that the gay kids from my late 50s high school might someday be able to marry...let alone even THINK about it.  Is refusing some leeway when one doesn't have all the facts not another form of bigotry?

I am not convinced.  My mom was older than you and knew even in the 40s that gays, as she would say, should be able to live, love and marry. You can go back in history and see that people were persecuted.  I don't think it's a matter of entering one's mind of change in law as it is personal conviction of what a person thinks is right and wrong.

Yes Joy I love you for saying that you will interrupt whenever someone uses the word socialist - and Elsa you lie you are a right winger - you married one and your heart for that shines through you

Why is socialism a bad word now?  I know I like my paved roads, public schools, public libraries, sewer system, water system, police, fire, etc.  Wasn't MM the one ganging up on NY guy about the subways?  Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm that is socialism so maybe she should just get on her horse and ride into work.

At this point, I say GOOD that Meghan's father gets attacked, considering she has no sympathy or empathy at all for so many others who are daily attacked by the President's words and actions. Why does she think she should be the exception? I hope it makes her feel more ashamed for doing her best everyday to defend and lie for him like she's one of his servants--because she should be ashamed.

Okay, Jill Abramson's voice is kind of driving me nuts.

On another note, Meghan and Abby can whine and complain about the New York Times all they want. They're doing just fine.

Even though I like Jill, her voice always reminds me of the sloth from Zootopia, and it's hard not to think of him when she talks.

I had a professor in law school (Labor Law) with a voice like Ms. Abramson. It was SOOOOO hard to stay awake in that class!

And, full disclosure-I got an A in that class and I have absolutely no idea how I did that!

I had to laugh that Meghan made two references to “being up late” last night, and nobody followed through with congratulating her on her stellar job as a political analyst.  They all just ignored her.

I caught that too- so surprised that Ah-bee didn’t take her cue and praise Meghan up and down!!

The quote is “if you ain’t first, you’re last”. Did she at least get that right?  I hate her so much. BTW.

I didn’t not really enjoy jackson Jr and his mom segment either.  Some thing was off.  It was a wonderful idea for a book.

I thought that segment was weird.  While there may be temp wars in homes first thing that popped into my head was she was asking women who don't have to worry about whether or not they can afford to raise the temp in the home.  Frankly how warm I keep my home depends on my budget.

I don't like the way Meghan speak to Joy. It's okay to disagree (It is the View) but based on her age and Meghan's age her tone is completely inappropriate. The way she speaks to her makes it seem like she wasn't raised properly.

That is my biggest problem with her. She is so disrespectful to everybody, except Whoopie.

That was the first thing that popped into my head too, since none of these ladies have to worry about affording heat.  And Sunny only endures the cold because she enjoys being a dutiful wife who obeys her husband.

Whoopi use to be on welfare and Sunny has mentioned before how her family struggled so I have no doubt they experienced    Not being able to afford heat.   They did not mention it so maybe they don’t remember.

They also failed to mention that if a woman is exposed to chickenpox  or measles early in pregnancy, that it can seriously harm the fetus (and sometimes the mother and or the pregnancy) I used to do research on how chicken pox exposure in early pregnancy can cause severe abnormalities in the developing fetus. It was long before the chicken pox vaccine was developed. I was always so fearful of being exposed to someone with chicken pox (because a lot of times you don't even know you have it until many days into the disease) when I was pregnant with my kids. I don't think many people realize some of these lesser known facts.

Manny seems like a cheapskate. Sunny has talked about him saying she uses too much toilet paper and now the heat. She can praise him all she wants I wouldn't want him as a husband. She reminds me of Wendy Williams sometimes except I doubt Manny is abusive like Kevin.

Interesting to me, is that the two people I have heard criticize Stacey Abrams for being a "loser" are Meghan McCain and Sarah Palin.  Hmmmmmm..

I was born in 1950 and my mom was pregnant with my sister in 1953. I caught chicken pox during my mom's second trimester and she came down with it as well. My sister was born with mild-to-moderate mental retardation.

But sometimes, we think something is wrong because our parents, teachers, and priests have told us it was wrong.  It's difficult to develop a strong conviction that goes against everything you've been taught.  As a teenager, how do you develop ideas that contradict everything all of the adults in your life tell you?   The adults are responsible for teaching you about life, for teaching you right from wrong, and shelter you from knowing about anything that contradicts their way of thinking.  The nuns taught me that even questioning "matters of faith"  would send me to hell.  And everything was a matter of faith.

I grew up in all all-white neighborhood, went to a private elementary school where everyone was white and catholic.  EVERYONE.   Movies, tv shows, books, were restricted to what was allowed.  Yes, in high school I began to develop other ideas, because I was exposed to people who thought differently, and to books.    But I was careful not to talk about anything at home that might not be inline with what my parents believed.   (except when I decided to cause trouble - then I'd talk about the Vietnam war)

My first knowledge of homosexuality was a girl in the all-girls high school I attended, who sent a love letter to another girl.  Parents heard of it, complained, and she was expelled.   It was a LETTER.  It was the first time I heard of same-sex relationships.

this is all to say that people can be programmed to believe a certain way.   It doesn't have to be lifelong, but it often takes leaving the environment you're raised in to be exposed to any other ideas.

MM pulled some statistic out her butt that 70-80% of women were against abortions after the 5th month of pregnancy.  Would love to know the source and the context of that stat.   Abortions after 5 months are rare and are almost always due to a determination that the fetus is not viable or to save the life of the mother.  Women (and men) overwhelming support abortions in those situations.  It is a myth that MM has chosen to loosely support that women are getting abortions "just because" in their final trimester of pregnancy.

I also love a jewel tone dress and a broach, so I agree both MM and Stacey Abrams looked lovely.

#1 = I have nothing to say to that,  My experience was very different with our very diverse area.  We were working class.  Our community, with the pullout of the Iraq war,  took in thousands of Iraqis and Bengalis and they just were welcome and meshed right in.  They brought their food and we all love another type of food.

#2 = Did you not think that was horrible for the girl?  If a purple being walked down the street and I saw it being beaten I still would know that it was wrong.

Here is the real question - Must empathy be taught or does ones nurture towards bias hold true?

Thanks for talking about this.  Few people know about the dangers to pregnant women & the repercussions they may have to endure for a lifetime.

I love your entire post, Tinkerbell.  I also went to Catholic school, first through high school (1946-1958).  Not only were we not taught to challenge any teachings, teachers, parents...we were definitely discouraged from questioning anything or anyone.  My friends and I were innocent and naive.  We were not mean or cruel to anyone, but we didn't have enough experience (yet) to be fully formed human beings.

Those years in school, I saw only 3-4 boys who were "sissies," and I had no idea what a homosexual was or what they did...male or female.  I just thought those boys were girly and that's it--nothing to do with sex.  No "authority" ever discussed SEX with us (other than Don't Do It)...let alone mentioning people of the same gender having sex with each other.  Sounds like it was different in different parts of the country with "more enlightened" families, school, friends.  Most of us evolve...eventually.

I now find it so hard to envision Sunny as the rough tough prosecutor she claims to have been.  Between the toilet paper story, and now the thermostat story, I picture her quaking in her boots, afraid to offend the lord and master.   June Cleaver had more backbone.

They were/are all (including Jill Abramson) highly intelligent women, from different parts of the country, so maybe it's a smart woman affect? I ended up having to FF through the Abramson interview because it was making me crazy.

Meghan's desperate attempt to remind people about her "political analyst" job the night before was comical.  I love how the hosts breezed right past her.  On a more pleasant note, Meghan looks great in the blue she was wearing today.  You know, blue like Democrats, which means she will never wear it again.

I stopped watching the show when Jenny joined because wasn't that the first season after Joy left?
