I feel like Jessa is overcompensating for the lack of chemistry and at the same time giving Kendra a big F you. When Jessa was gushing about the wedding It suddenly struck me that she really doesn't like Kendra too much.

Jessa strikes me as the jealous type.  "This is the best wedding I've ever been to."  Really, Jessa?  If we are voting for best weddings, my vote is for Jinger and Jeremy's.  I don't know who I despise more, Jessa or Tori Bates.

Maybe because it wasn't a Duggar daughter being married, and the bride's family actually provided food?

Oh but it seems to me like she might say that at John and Abbie's (like No, actually this is the best wedding ever.) and the wedding after that. Jessa sounds like she's been trying to learn what the kids are sayin' these days. It gave me the "feels" and best wedding ever are her way of trying to connect with their teen audience. She's trying too hard. She sounds like a sitcom parent trying to pump their kid for information. Maybe if she could watch television shows, she would get it.

First of all they could have made this 2 separate episodes.  One being the wedding & the other being the commercials, predominantly TLC advertising their shows. I taped & rewatched it (I missed some of it)  and it took about an hour with me fast forwarding thru the commercials.

Can someone tell these couples-to-be there is more to marriage/your wedding than the first kiss and being alone. For being so religious (or so they think) you would think they could come up with a more unique answer.

What is it with these (fundy) gals and their obsession with their fathers & vice versa.  Lauren's speech was bordering on the lines of a eulogy.

I agree with others, what made Austin the voice of marriage reason?

I did like that JB & Mechelle didnt have a part in the ceremony.

Few misc questions: who sang the Lords Prayer when they were doing the Unity candle?

Who was  in the bridal party? I'm mainly interested  which Duggars were included.

Was food served at the reception besides cake & cheeseballs?

I liked seeing how the cake lady made the heart shaped wedding cake out of circle and square sheet cakes. Brought back many nice memories for me.  My mom made many of these for me and my sister's birthdays growing up.  Very easy to do:  Place the square one to look sort of like a diamond with corners(points) at top and bottom.   Cut the circle cake in half & place each half along side the top sides of the square cake, creating the heart shape.

ETA  Josie's hair really looked cute.

I love this whole post.  Two hours when it could have been easily done in one and still been too long.

Other than the wedding this is going to be the last clip show of the season. Next up in their time slot is Long Island Medium. I don't know which is better.

I guess that frees up Monday night and TLC for me.  back to Monday night football.

Eta: Lauren's breathy "Dear Daddy" speech? Ewwwww. I almost vomited up my Greek salad (take that, Austin!) when Lauren proclaimed she'll always be his little girl. It's not even the sentiment that skeeves me out, it's the semi-pornographic delivery.

agree.  Starting with the officiant who was at the front " Lauren you have a special relationship with your father .. ".  She wanted him to feel special. Only the dad and Josiah are the only two that can calm her down... I had  chill go down my back... Ewww..

IF you are going to do a "tribute" to your father , how in a straight face can you not honor your mother at the same time ?  I mean I've seen those whose mothers have passed get more honor in their weddings/rehearsal dinner. Lauren says nothing about the woman ??? She is sitting right there, on the front row, tearing up too ??

In case you missed it, Lauren's gluten-free.

Jinger looked gorgeous in that brief glimpse we saw of her at the reception.

Abbie's worked for several years? Wow, that's a first.

The few extra pregnancy pounds looks good on Jinger..

ok sleuths... Please - what kind of trained nurse is Abbie - RN, BSN, AA, LPN , CNA, ARNP?

what is (or was) symbolic about 52 ? not saying the note writing should be larger... but seems like an odd random nbr to pick.. were they engaged 52 days ?

I think Jessa is big-time jealous that Kendra got the light, bright, beautifully appointed cabin while she's stuck in the dingy Mold House. Kendra also had a relatively comfortable hospital birth and waltzed out of there looking like she was ready to go to Homecoming. It seems like the first birth is the Super Bowl of Fundie deliveries and Jessa botched it like she played for the Falcons.

I want to know how these kids get their pick of a house that gets gifted to them? Do you win a lottery for the house? Do you have to kiss your way up to a free house? What about all the years that the girls put into raising their brothers and sisters, does that not matter? I can see why Jessa would be jealous. She got a shit house vs Joe.

Anddddd who is living in the pool house now?

Fully expected a bunch of comments about Josiah wearing his ALERT T-shirt in the ep, maybe on the way to the church for his wedding?

Austin and Joy both seemed quite relaxed and content.  It made me hopeful and happy for her.

I get the sense some of the family dynamics are starting to change with so many more getting married and the shift due to the different personalities of the spouses entering the family looking to be themselves, not simply an interchangeable Duggar cog.

John David was like a whole new man.  It seems as if he and Abby are in complete control of their relationship -- maybe kind of how it works when we have two adults entering into marriage versus a couple of teenagers.  I sense Abby is prone to eye rolling -- and I love it.  Put JB and Michelle on screen with her if so.  I'll tune in for that.

I think the narration about the future was set up with a shot of Jana to make us think she has a relationship on the horizon.  If that were to be true, I wish she could be entering into it as confidently independent as Abby seems to be doing -- with a man who is completely confident and independent from JB and all things Duggar.

In Josiah's wedding picture, someone filled in the missing spot in his mustash. The boys all seem to have it..a small round bare spot right below their noses. The snot  must run down there and kill  the mustach hair folicles or something..it just looks really odd seeing that bare spot on all of them.

Jessa's pimping it like the rent is due tomorrow.

Out of all the Duggar couples, Si and Lauren are the least authentic. I've never once sensed they're madly in love. I don't even think I'd say they politely tolerate one another. What sort of feels is Jessa talking about?

I totally agree with you.  Everything about this "wedding" was awkward to watch.  The kissing scenes made me feel uncomfortable and I don't know why.  When she surprised him for behind in her wedding gown, he said (and I quote) "It looks good on you."  SAY WHAT?!!!!  That's when I knew this was all a sham.  What kind of husband-to-be says that to his bride on their wedding day?  He said it like she's was modeling a dress off the JCPenny rack.  Maybe they'll grow to love each other.  I think right now, they're just good friends who like each other and felt they couldn't be platonic friends in "Duggar-world" because there's no such thing as a "friend" outside the family.  So, so sad.

The one bright spot in the episode, what we see missing in Josiah was full force on JD's face the minute he called Abbie into the interview with him.  I actually thought he was one of the more dull humorless of the boys but he also doesn't get a lot of screen time.  That huge smile was promising for their relationship.  I also like that he walked in and said Here's my girlfriend but did not announce the official Duggar phrase "we're courting".

Never saw what others disliked in Lauren until now - can't even say why but there definitely is something there that lacks warmth or sincerity; I sort of feel like everything she says and does is a carefully orchestrated act but more in a phony way than in Jessa's carefully crafted image way.  Can't explain it but I definitely see now what everyone has been saying about her.

Well don't you know in Duggarland you only have to be married 24 hours to become a marriage expert.

I understood it was married 24 hours to become pregnant?

We do know now that there is a "trend of honeymoon babies" after all.   Do they have any concept of how that even sounds?

I agree with all who have said the obsession with the first kiss is cringe-worthy.  Josiah really went for it.  Did anyone notice he wiped his mouth afterwards?  Then when he went in for a second kiss, and Lauren rebuffed him.  That was so awkward!  And everyone watching -- it's just creepy for me.  And yes, as someone already noticed, some woman seated behind Michelle did kind of roll her eyes.

The idea that you have never kissed, never spent any time ALONE with the person you are now expected to spend the rest of your life with.  Crazy.

That big D looked like the D at Disneyland.  It looked ridiculous.

I liked that John David just walked into the house and said, everyone, meet my girlfriend Abbie.  They also seemed more affectionate, forgoing the "only hold hands after engagement or courtship or whatever" rule.  And poor Jana.

My favorite part of the ep was Jer's horrified face as the birth coach "pretended to be in labor" but actually looked and sounded as if she was having an Earth-shattering orgasm.

Wedding nights with these hapless, repressed manboys must feel like 20 seconds of a bee stinging the inside of your vagina, because you know none of these assholes have heard of foreplay. I'd wager that it takes a good 2-3 attempts for them to even last long enough to get inside her, let alone make it pleasurable.

In the wedding preparations scenes on the two different days, did anybody else think this one guy looked eerily like Josh? He had a black shirt one day and a red one another. He was wearing a hat both days. It freaked me out.

YES. He just, um, weighed a lot less than we’ve seen of Josh this past year, but had I not seen their social media pictures, just the show, I don’t think I’d have realized it wasn’t him. I think we’ve done double-takes over whoever it is before, at another wedding?

Yup. I was struck by just how much she wasn’t even pretending - or trying to keep a polite neutral smile frozen in place - given that she was seated only 2-3 rows back, front and center, clearly in the shot of any footage of the three parents. I immediately opted to fast forward through Lauren’s daddy speech, half covered my view of the screen with my hand during the kiss like an eight year old because it felt so awkward (but not OMG can’t look away awkward like TFDW and Priscilla’s), and rewound to double-take at that woman’s look away of total non-amusement. She was clearly not charmed by all this first kiss circus business. ?

For the girls, I caught Jana, Kendra, Kendra’s next-oldest sister, and Joy. Anna, Jill, Jessa, and Jing were definitely not bridesmaids. (At one point I thought the side of postpartum Joy was perpetually-pregnant Anna, but it was still Joy.) I can’t assign names to faces for a lot of the middle boys, but Joe, Austin, and I believe the twins were groomsmen. (I’m not sure about the next few boys - maybe Jason, clueless re James.) No Josh, JD, or BILs except for Austin.

I’m blanking on his name, but I definitely saw Derick’s brother (Dan?)  in one of the early audience shots, in or just after the one with Jing (who looked fantastic) and Jeremy, to the right side of the screen. I didn’t catch Jill, Derick, or Cathy. (Or Jessa and Ben, for that matter.)

With Jessa’s gushing, part of me wondered if she really, really enjoyed just getting to be a relaxed guest and NOT part of the wedding party? I mean, yeah, it’s special and an honor and you wouldn’t want to “just be a guest” if you were bridesmaid-level-close with the bride (like, that would sting or be bittersweet), but I remember rediscovering the relaxed freedom and casual enjoyment of being a normal guest after the string of bridesmaid years. (“Oh! This is so nice!”)

It was funny and I agree with all the people who said previously that Jinger never had any intentions of using that birth center. Her facial expressions rotated between wtf?, complete disinterest and "yeah, I'm so not doing this" when the midwife was rolling on the floor in agony (ecstacy?). I think her doctor refused to film so the birth center was recruited to show Jinger's prenatal care.

The woman sitting behind Michelle is Jinger's mother-in-law, Diana Vuolo.  The guy behind her is cousin Amy's dorky husband, who couldn't even be bothered to wear a tie to a formal wedding.

Neither have the Lions. They've won four NFL championships, but the last was in 1957, a good decade before the Super Bowl started. Also, thank you for writing it properly (Super Bowl, not Superbowl.)

Back on topic: I doubt Jilly has the intelligence to realize how blighted her childhood and adolescence were.

Having watched a little over half of this mess, I'm now convinced that there is some kind of Katie Holmes contract in place for Lauren's marriage to Josiah. Only instead of 5 years, it's a lifetime commitment with a bonus paid out for each offspring produced. I can't otherwise reconcile the disparity between what she says ("there's nothing I don't love about Josiah") and her outward behavior (mocking his bad breath in front of millions--and that's only the latest example of belittling behavior directed his way). Just maybe her cheerful veneer masks a well of contempt for Josiah because she considers him beneath her. Their chemistry is awkward and unnatural; there doesn't seem to be anything "organic" about the way they came together.

Oh, and she's a mush mouth who needs to learn to enunciate so people can understand what the hell she's saying.

Abbie and John are not following the Duggar "rules of engagement" that JB has for the girls.  John is 28 years old.  Abbie is gainfully employed.  They are two adults and I think John realizes that and that's why he didn't bother asking JB for advice or approval or whatever.  He understands that this is his life.  They were so "normal" at the reception.  Abbie had her arm around his chair just like any normal girlfriend would do.  I bet she wears slacks and even shorts!  She doesn't appear to be a fundie and maybe that's one reason John kept her under wraps - so to speak - LOL!

She was raised in a similar environment. Her parents were big into IBLP (Institute of Basic Living Principles: founded by Bill Gothard and now run by others including Gil Bates) and ATI (advanced training institute: the homeschooling wing of IBLP). To this day, a picture of her family and all of their children is on the ATI part of the IBLP website.  A lot of fundies have stopped dressing the old school way and have change some of the rules, but they are still quiverfull and many of the core beliefs remain the same.

Superficial notations from me:

Really, Josiah?  White socks with your suit, on your wedding day?  Who dressed you?

Joy's hair was greasy looking as hell, in the TH's and when she was donning bridesmaid's getup.

That D looked just dumb.  V and D references did make me laugh.  Are these fundie people really that clueless?  Never a risqué thought?  Huh.  I don't buy it.

So Sinner Twin was a groomsman, and Smuggar Lite twin wasn't?

Why does Joe blink noticeably sometimes?  Is it a nervous tic?  Not snarking on Joe, I think he and Kendra are really a good match, unlike SiRen.

I love Abbie already.  It took me years to appreciate my curls, but I finally embrace them.  I did find the comment about a Pentecostal Perm a bit puzzling.  To me, they look natural.  JD hopefully has no fucks to give over the bullshit courting rules.  This couple seems genuine to me.

Love reading the comments and other's views.

Does anybody know what Josiah does for a living?  What about Ben?  What about Joe?  I may have missed the shows that showed these young men going off to work every day.

Since John David has a pilot license, I am making a board assumption that he earns income from that.  But I don't really know that for sure.

But somewhere along the line she scooted away... not only with the attire , but you have to go to a real state licensed pgm to become a LPN and have the aptitude and experience to  pass the state exam - which is more than I can say for a few of the women in the bunch. Plus with her being in her mid-20s - that is considered an old maid in the group.

Agree I saw a different JD. It was a good welcome sight. The love of a good woman...

JD and his piloting & income... hmmm... and he's the one whose the law enforcement w/o pay right ? I wonder how he feels (1) girlfriend makes documented income more than him { there are pleny of men who would have  BIG issue } and (2) she's going to give that up - most likely - to be a Duggar wife. Just hanging her Oklahoma LPN license on the wall will hopefully inspire other women raised in IBLP to something, outside of their circle, in a traditional setting/program/college before marriage.

Has she too been living at home all this time and banking her $$  ?

Abbie's father appeared on the Duggars' special Raising 16 Children back in 2006. He was interviewed at Big Sandy ATI Camp with a bunch of other parents who were bragging about how many children they had. Clay Burnett had one of the smaller families at 5 girls and 3 boys. Clay and Cheryl Burnett and family also posed on advertising for ATI homeschooling. They also worked as chaperones or counselors at the Institute of Basic Life Principles Northwoods retreat center.

When I first saw this I had to do a double take I thought that was Josh, But surely TLC aren't dumb enough to show his face on tv?

Anyway this wedding episode was just plain weird, I don't see the attraction between Josiah & Lauren and when Josiah asked Lauren's Dad if he could kiss her eww I felt sick.

Also if you call your Dad daddy shouldn't that be a sign that you're to young to get married.
