S03.E05: Invite-Gate

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping that Landon responding "who cares" is creative editing and not an actual response Shep's question about inviting Kathryn. Both Craig and Shep have articulated that they are well aware of the fact that this show only has second and third seasons because of Kathryn and Thomas. You would think that Landon would also get that she owes 2 years worth of paychecks to Kathryn. The rest of these folks barely provide enough material for interstitials. Everything that Landon gives us would be on the cutting room floor on a better show.

I cannot imagine Shep actually walking away from his own party in real life because Kathryn wasn't invited.  No way.  I smell production and ratings.  We all know this show'd be cancelled by now if it was not for Kathryn.  Shep slept with Kathryn, that's true, but he doesn't seem to even like her.  Obvi Shep walked away because it was probably producer driven.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if TPTB got some of the cast members who were icing Kathryn out and told them to "get with the program" (i.e. - actually film with Kathryn).  If there is too much of a Kathryn disconnect there is no show.  She pretty much drives it with her BSC self.

I know I basically tune in for the Kathryn - Ravenel shit-show.  And sometimes Patricia and the house porn.  The rest of the cast, meh.  I am sick of Cameran's non-baby storyline.  If she doesn't want to have a baby - don't have a baby, but it's a real crappy thing to do to your husband if you agreed to have kids and you're purposely refusing to give it a real try.  That's a real deal breaker IMHO.

I just saw the preview clip of Shep finding out Kathryn wasn't invited to his party. Landon's 'who cares?' was so rude. She's acting like it's her party. I believe she was lying through her teeth when she said she texted Kathryn. Just admit you just don't want to be around her instead of using someone's party as a way to exact revenge.

Idiots, all of them.

I have been pretty tough on Shep recently, but he gets major points from me for standing up for Katheryn not getting an invite to his birthday party. Seems like he made it clear he wanted her to be invited and included, and Landon ignored his wishes and then seems to be acting like what Shep wants for his party doesn't matter...it only matters what SHE wants. Kudos for Shep standing up against that bullshit. I find it truly amusing to see the way she went from rooting for Thomas and Katheryn last season, to trying to make their problems even worse this season (by icing Katheryn out, etc.) Now this could have happened for one of two reasons...either she has developed a thing for Rich Uncle T-Rav, so she hates Katheryn, or she truly despises Katheryn because Katheryn ASSUMES she has a thing for Thomas, and Thomas has told her things Katheryn has said about her.

Landon's true colors surely showed through! The very definition of mean girl.

I think Landon is setting her cap for whatever bachelor boy is around, be that Thomas or Shep - she was dismissive of Bailey as well.

I also think Landon believes Kathryn is bad person for getting knocked up.  Just like she thinks people who dress well must be good people.  Landon thinks she is better than Kathryn.

But Shep said he wanted her invited.  He said he didn't want to exclude anyone.

Unless it was producer driven, Landon would have been much smarter to invite her and have her decline because she couldn't skate what with pregnancy.

Well, "smart" is not in Landon's bailiwick.  I wonder if her husband dumped her because she couldn't keep up with an L. A. crowd.

Do you need money to write about your travels on the Internet?  Has she "written" before?  Does she even have samples to show an investor?

Has she ever heard of a business plan?  Dumb as dirt, bless her heart.

Several people noted they had had something in writing about the birthday party and I thought I heard that even Thomas mentioned an email to Kathryn.  Thomas even made a personal effort to get Kathryn included.  So Landon needs to learn to lie a little more convincingly than she did here.  Other than that, she just showed herself to all her friends what a lousy person she really is.

As others noted, this party was for Shep.  It was poorly planned and badly conceived on Landon's part, right down to the half-assed attempt to include Kathryn and then to rudely dismiss the concern of the guest of honor and another guest regarding the exclusion.  Landon is one of those people who will never feel remorse for her behavior, coming off as the spoiled, entitled brat that Landon is.

For all Kathryn's flaws and there are many, Landon looks far worse here, as someone who fails to understand basic decency.  Cameron is no better, either, with her horrid response to Kathryn's invitation.

I am glad to have made neither woman's personal acquaintance.

I think 90% of the drama is producer driven. Shep said in a recent interview that the first season with production they had no idea what to expect. He said the second was a more collaborative effort between the cast and production but the third was very heavily produced, with some cast members becoming very upset with the production staff. The bullshit about party invitations or lack thereof is classic Bravo milking the absolute shit out of the most mundane detail.  You know good and hell well that Landon didn't pay for the bus or rink rentals. Bravo did. The pictures of Shep at the roller rink are all from the Bravo website.  I am covered with shame that I know this

As batshit crazy that Kathryn can be, if Shep wanted her invited, Landon should have honored his wish.  I actually felt badly for Kathryn this episode (and I rarely feel badly for Kathryn).  She made an effort with Cameron, and Cameron shut her down.  Whatever reason Cameron had, that's fine.  I think that if you truly don't like someone, there is no reason to meet for coffee or lunch, or whatever, because that would be hypocritical and two-faced.  Having said that, seeing Cameron rolling her eyes at Kathryn's invitation was kind of sad.

And then, this hot mess of a birthday party for Shep, given by the new mean girl, Landon.  Landon had no intention of inviting Kathryn - that was evident during her conversation with Whitney.  Her horrible attempt at lying about it made it even worse.  Did she not think that Shep would find out that she didn't invite Kathryn?

I have a feeling that Shep is going to be super pissed off at Landon, and deservedly so.

Kathryn was born into the same elite, out-dated iron-clad layer of Charleston society as Thomas and Shep and Dani.  Landon wasn't.

Thomas and Kathryn's messiness makes them less desirable than Shep or Dani, who remember turned Thomas down in Season 1, but they were born into that rarefied social class and their memberships there seem irrevocable, no matter how out of control they get.  Landon, and, probably, Patricia and Whitney, are insanely jealous that Kathryn is such a fuck-up and still gets that place in society.  Contrast their behavior with how gracious the super-secure Dani was towards Kathryn.

Landon can only reach those heights through marriage to either Shep, who isn't interested, or Thomas, who she's hoping is desperate enough to settle for her.  Obviously, making it on her own as a young divorcee was too hard a row.

Why is Shep so freaking critical of Craig?  So Craig can skate?  That's embarrassing?  No, your jealousy is shining through, Shep.

And last week he HAD to go to basically verify that Craig was really signing up for the bar.  Who cares?  If Craig signs up or does not, none of your business.  If he doesn't take the bar, that doesn't impact Shep one bit.    All Shep has going for him now is his family name, which I guess means something in that area - and that is it, and his trust fund.   Shep is slowly morphing into a younger version of Thomas.

I love that Cam, who has never had a child, thinks that Kathryn should be focusing on her unborn and born child.  Well, as anyone who is a mother will tell you, you also need time to focus on yourself and relationships with other people (and that does not make you a bad mother).  Kathryn reached out to you and you shut the door.  As Kathryn said, she wasn't asking to be BFF's and take selfies with one another.  She asked to meet for coffee or lunch.  Gosh, I used to like Cam so much.  Not anymore.  That was mean.

Yeah to Craig and Shep.  Landon and Cam can go over to the corner and be mean girls.

Landon is just pathetic.  The party was pathetic.  Except for Craig showing his skating skills.  Loved it.  Who knew... Landon would love to have a relationship with Craig, Shep or TRav.  I don't see that happening.  Hey, and maybe Whit.  Ugh.

Liked the comparison between the moving companies and the difference between the houses TRav was moving into and the one Kathryn was.

I think Craig was spot on about Whit and Kathryn.  And I'm liking Naomi more and more.  I'm glad he's getting his act straightened out cause I really didn't like him last season.

His primary scenes each episode seem to be a phone call to the fake girlfriend...

'Hey babe! It's Whitney...' Oh yes, that was natural. Frequently people who refer to me as 'babe' then rush to identity themselves. Oh no wait, ONE PERSON calls me 'babe' and I know his voice without him saying who it is. Faaaaaaake girlfriend.

Oh my god, Shep is so jealous of and threatened by Craig it's killing him. He's such a petty bitch, a younger Ravenel-in-training. Why are these women all over him? I don't see it.

I'll take the unpopular stance of being delighted at Kathryn's shunning. Yeah she's a thirsty social-climber, but worse than that, she's rude, unpleasant to be around, and unwilling to control herself. We all know this person in real life, the exhausting, entitled energy suck who never fails to make a scene. I watch despite her, and in fact usually just tune out when she's on screen caterwauling about why does no one like her.

Oh, I'm loving the exclusion of Kathryn, even though I know she's part of the reason this show is so successful, so the cast almost has to respect her and her villainous vixen act/hussy-hustle.

I still love to hate her though, as sad as her and Thomas's situation with those kids truly is---I should hate Thomas just as much, but her angry public outbursts, jealous rages and childishly self-absorbed nature just bugs me far more than gross old T-Rav and his own crude antics.

Honestly though, she does seem so tiring and gloomy to be around---she even snarks on her own few friends who film with her! She's been a rude, snarky bitch to every person in this cast at some point, after all, not to mention having slept with at least 3 of the male cast members on there, which has gotta be a bit awkward for everyone involved. Again, I fail to see all this "charm", humor and sweetness that everyone else on the cast promises she exudes when she's not onscreen---after seeing her on WWHL and the reunion shows too, I still don't get it. I do find it interesting that everyone who claims she's so cool and awesome are men, gay or straight; maybe her beauty is just that enchanting and she's such the bedroom goddess that she charms anyone possessing a penis?

She'd better hope and pray her looks stay youthful and fresh, because she doesn't appear to have much else going for her beyond her sexual charms and her old Southern linage.

I agree with everything  you said except the bit about Cameron. It's her right to keep crazy out of her life but she could have declined in a better way. I still like her best of all.

If Shep wanted Katheryn there it was his right and his wishes should have been honored.

I don't understand the Cameran refusing lunch with Kathryn. I thought that would be plot advancement if nothing else.  It's lunch with a pregnant lady, very little likelihood of screaming and tossed drinks.

It's Kathryn both of those things are entirely possible. I have no problem with Cameron being dismissive of Kathryn, she doesn't like her and it's not as if Kathryn has not been dismissive of others.

Danni even mentioned that Kathryn hadn't been in touch with her so I also believe Elizabeth when she says she has tried to reach out.

I don't watch the show for Kathryn and Thomas, I find them both tiresome.

I don't think they are hangout with Thomas because he has money, I think he can usually manage to hold it together at events and can even seem interested in other people; whereas Kathryn is so freaking self involved it's ridiculous. I don't think we have ever seen he be genuinely interested in anything other than gossip and herself.

How convenient that Naomie happens to have another house that she and Craig can move into. :/
I don't have an issue with Cameran choosing not to have coffee/lunch with Kathryn, but the conversation was cringe worthy.  I was more put off by the fact that Cam was flossing her teeth as she was walking down the street toward the party bus.  That was just weird.
Overall, this was a pretty boring episode.

First time Craig didn't look like a buffoon this season?  Well, bust my buttons, it was him skating (in spite of the dumb outfit).  Btw, his butt looked adorbs in those tight pants.  The guy does seem like a good athlete.  Horseteeth always looks like such a dork.  And I didn't believe what he said, implying he was cool when he was young.  I bet he was always an unathletic dork.

Bailey's painting (that she gave to Horseteeth) looked OK to me.  Man, whiny Landon was really nasty to say it was shitty -- not just once, but twice.  Maybe she said that because it was better than anything she could do?  You know, it's easy to dismiss whiny Landon as a harmless flake.  But she isn't just a flake.  She's bitter, nasty & mean.  Um, did Bethenny clone a Southern version of herself or what?

Horseteeth made a very misogynist comment, referring to Bailey.  Ugh, it made me wince.  And then he laughed hysterically at this comment in his TH.  Made me wanna kick him right square in his fake horseteeth for saying it.  To me, it revealed his true misogynist nature.  This stuff on him feeling anything about Kathryn not being invited to his party?  Meh.  I don't think he gives a shit about her.  Not buying it.

I really hope we don't get a season full of Kathryn not getting invited to parties.  She has to get invited somewhere because she needs a reason to go nuts & cause scenes & entertain us.  Besides, I'd love to see Kathryn call out Whitney on his bullshit (cough, cough, fake girlfriend, cough, cough).  Hey, wait a minute, did Whitney mention being at the Playboy mansion -- or did I imagine that?  Er, huh???  And just what in the hell would he be doing there?  Having a cup of tea with Hef?  That's about as much as Hef could manage these days -- or about as much as Whitney would be interested in doing there.

I didn't understand Cam not going to lunch with Kathryn.  Her reason not to meet with Kathryn made absolutely NO sense to me.  Staying away from drama?  Uh, what the what?  Cam, hun, you are on a Bravo reality show.  You do know that, right, sweetie?

I really like Naomi (Craig's girlfriend) and Danni -- both are kind, down-to-earth and decent -- such a contrast to the others on this show, namely Landon and Cameran.  I agree that the Ginger Tornado (LOL -- love that nickname, HunterHunted) and her drama with TRav is the primary reason the show is still on.  When did Shep turn into such a goober?  When did Cameran go from being the nice "voice of reason" to a judgmental beeyotch?  Sorry, but she could have had coffee with Kathryn, who really needs a friend or at least a sounding board right now.

Spoiler

Whenever I click to post, a spoiler box appears, and I have no idea why.

I don't Twitter but I have to imagine that Landon and Cameran are taking some heat this morning. Landon was especially nasty, calling the painting "shitty". That's because Landon can't paint anything but stick figure flowers. I don't believe for a minute that Landon sent an invitation to Kathryn.
