I remember hearing about from an interview with Hank Aaron. There were a few letters were begging him not to break the record because they had been there with their dad or not wanting their favorite's record broken. Which he understood. I get too. It was hard when my favorite gymnasts records got beat. I hate to see Simone Biles's record beaten because she's awesome. But most were horrible  nasty letters and so many death threats. It's sad, it's infurating but it's so also so stupid! It's just a game.

It wasn't that long ago he did an interview (I think it was TCM) in which he talked about all the roles he did on TV and film.  I remember him best from The Virginian (playing the local Sheriff), but that man was in everything!  I was impressed he was still alive and seemed to be thriving into his 90s!  He even demonstrated how fit he was by squeezing one of those hand strengtheners! If you've ever tried to use squeeze of those, it's not that easy to use.

And I saw him many a time on DVD in that fourth-season premiere of The Streets of San Francisco, "Poisoned Snow" (OAD Thurs. Sept. 11, 1975 on ABC), where he was narcotics inspector gone rogue George Turner (one of the finest season premieres in television history, IMO).

Grease was JUST on TV! Fate really has a cruel and sadistic streak.

I know the odds were not good but I really wanted her to beat cancer! Fuck that disease to the seventh circle of hell.

And I’m just gonna say even though Xanadu sucked, her singing in that movie was magic.

Every guy my age crushed on Olivia’s Sandy.  Her “If You Love Me Let Me Know” was the second album I ever bought.  
I expect that the World’s Greatest Musical in the Sky, just got one of the world’s most angelic voices.

Damn!  My family all watched Grease when it was released in theaters!  My parents thought it was a hoot (having been teens in the 50s and appreciated the 50s era cameos throughout) and I loved the music!  My friends and I used to play "Hopelessly Devoted to You" over and over again!  Later, in middle school, when "Physical" became a hit, we used to annoy my science teacher by changing the lyrics to "Let's get CHEMICIAL!".  He was slightly amused!

“Grease” was the first movie I ever saw in the theaters without my parents at age 11.  I saw it in the summer and was obsessed. When the school year started again in the fall, my teacher asked us what we did over the summer. I said “listened to the Grease soundtrack.” And that I did, over and over. 🙂

I had the extreme good fortune to meet Ms. Newton-John on a couple of different occasions.  She was exactly like you'd expect her to be warm, kind and generous with her time.  I feel so lucky to have had those opportunities.

Please let me echo others who have shared their love for Olivia and her music.  I recall how much this song meant to me as a kid. I played and sang it over and over. Just the best memory to cherish.  Thank you Olivia for leaving me so many happy memories, plus those of Grease.  Classy lady for sure.

I knew all the words to all the songs to Grease.   Then we all got physical because she asked us to.

I'm so sad about Olivia Newton John, too. I loved Grease and the cheesy goodness of Xanadu. Her music was a big part of childhood and teen years. And she seemed like such a lovely, kind woman.

It actually doesn’t surprise me.

For all her sweetness, she was one hell of a fighter, having beaten cancer twice.

Grease is my daughter’s favorite movie, even though she was born in 1985.  I’ll bet this one guts her.

RIP sweet angel, help make the Heavens sing.

I was a huge fan of ONJ's from the first time I saw her perform If Not For You on TV in the early 70s. I adored her through her country era, her sweet pop era, her movie era (good and bad alike) right on through her more provocative pop era, and then kept sending positive thoughts as she repeatedly battled for her life. Such a strong, beautiful soul gone. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I also loved seeing the more world-weary and cynical side of her as exemplified in the last project I saw her in, 2008's "Sordid Lives: The Series." #RIP to a true entertainment legend.

Miss Newton-John was a phenomenal singer. However, it should also be noted that she was the maternal granddaughter of the German-born Nobel Prize winner Max Born (1882 -1970) who had fled his homeland after the NAZIs came to power due to his Jewish heritage! One of my fave performances she did was when she, her then-husband Matt Latanzi and their almost two-year-old daughter Chloe were visiting Miss Newton-John's extended family in their Australian home and she did an a capella song celebrating her love for her homeland on January 1,1988 on live television in anticipation of the 200th Anniversary of the first British colonizers arriving there!

Yes, I know she'd struggled with cancer for many years but somehow, this still is a shock. If nothing else, she gave her loved ones extra time with her via her determination and positive attitude despite the odds,

RIP, Miss Newton-John.

This one really, really hurts. I treasure the autographed index card I got after writing to ONJ in late 2002/early 2003. She was on the cover of McCall's the month I was born, and my mom saved a copy. 

Her wonderful career aside, she was a true inspiration for women. ONJ went public with her diagnosis way back in the early 1990s at a time when a lot of people were not doing so. She donated a significant sum of money to research. All in all, Dame Olivia was a fighter and a survivor. God bless her!!! 🙏💔💖

I just read his story on the Johnstown flood of 1889.

Gripping, yet with an easy style.  Very, very thorough.  I’ve also read his fabulous John Adams book.  What a great loss to readers, but he lived a long, good life.

It should also be noted that Dame Olivia's father was an MI5 officer. Mr. Newton-John was assigned to the Enigma project at Bletchley Park, and was a part of the capture of Rudolph Hess during the Second World War.

Also, blasphemy to some, but I always thought her version of Country Roads was the best version.
