The Duggars: In the Media and TLC

Guest

As a reminder, the site's Politics Policy remains in effect.  Yes, Jim Bob is apparently running for office again. That does not make it an acceptable topic of conversation in here - unless for some mysterious reason, TLC brings the show back and it is discussed on there. Even then, it would be limited to how it was discussed on the show.

If you have any questions, please PM the mods, @SCARLETT45 and myself.

An article about Jim Boob and Smuggar avoiding each other supposedly.

https://radaronline.com/exclusives/2019/11/josh-jim-bob-duggar-avoid-each-other-after-homeland-security-scandal/

Another blind item from Crazy Days and Nights.

In addition to all of the other federal crimes this sprawling reality family is facing, some of which are horrific, are all of the money laundering/embezzling/failure to report on taxes charges at least four of the family face. They took all sorts of payments under the table or didn't report them and spent them on strippers and escorts, not just for sex, but also paying for rent and other expenses. It is unknown if they were using them solely for themselves or were also hiring them out for added income. The latter seems likely considering the agencies doing a great deal of the investigations and what they do. The patriarch of the family is involved and several other men in the family, including one who has been in trouble before

Multiple strippers and escorts hired by multiple men in the same family?  Yeah, that lets the Duggars right out... I know protests like these are often the equivalent of shouting into the wind, but no way is this accepted underground (or even networked) operating procedure for multiple Duggar men including the patriarch.  These people are too prudish, sheltered and trapped.

What other family could it be, including a patriarch and a male figure who has previously gotten into trouble? Roloffs? Browns? Bateses, lol?

There’s the Putmans and the federal gun charges.  There’s all the assorted other reality families, the people from Alaska, the gold miners, etc etc.

That blind item has to be the Duggars because it was already confirmed that Homeland Security was there, right?

My guess is fraud and money shenanigans. Josh brings the sex crimes.

Hope Anna doesn't go down like Joe Giudice dragged down Teresa. Teresa is a bitch but I don't think she knew much about her husband's money scams.

Does JD work/volunteer out of Fayetteville? A cop was recently shot right outside of the police station.

Yeah, I heard about it yesterday when Jed! posted about it. Sad and probably very unusual for the area.

Yeah that honestly freaked me the fuck out. That kind of stuff just does not happen in Fayetteville.

The officer who was murdered was shot while sitting in his police cruiser in the police station's parking lot, waiting for his partner to start their shift. The guy who shot him was pursued by other police officers into an alley and was shot and killed. So far, they're saying the cop who was killed was not specifically targeted. I guess the guy just wanted to kill a cop and killed the first one he could find. 😞 The suspect had a police record but nothing that suggested this sort of violence, from what I could gather.

That being said, I doubt JD has anything to do with Fayetteville PD. Springdale would be closer to Tontitown. And constables are not really officially attached to police stations--they operate independently in their precincts. If he does ride-alongs or whatever, that's not really his job.

Well, he's not a cop. But, ssshhhh, don't tell him.

That is horrible and senseless.

I posted this in the Counting On episode thread about Grandma Duggar, but I figured I'd put it here as well:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-7802911/The-Duggars-cry-Grandma-Marys-death-Counting-season-10-finale.html

Joe is married to Kendra, not Lauren. It's the right woman in the pictures, but they used the wrong name.

I was searching out the Duggar books on a used book site.  I think the Devil may have gotten in. On the "You May Also Like" section it listed a Dave Ramsey book as well as Debi Pearls'  Also included was the Harry Potter series.  Wonder what the Duggars would think about that?

That could be one of those stupid pop up questions they ask : Who is Harry Potter?  Or better yet, ask the Duggar kids if they had read the books or seen the movies.  I know they would play dumb by saying they never heard of him or just say they weren't allowed and then Ben or Jeremy would have to rescue them.

I want this to be popcorn-worthy more than anything but doesn’t JB own and keep a cop car on the property for security purposes? I thought I read that somewhere

Would that even be legal to do that and keep any of the cop markings on it? Even if JD has his marked as a constable, the vehicle markings for an Arkansas constable are clearly for a constable.

I’m not sure how prudish they really are. JB is too much into the hey-hey-hey and humping minigolf to be a genuine prude. I actually think this family is hyper sexualized in a weird way, with the constant emphasis on breeding and tracking of Mom’s fertility. Gross! They spawned a Josh; there may be more.

They’re played out. People were interested in the older girls’ courtships and weddings, but now they are all married off (except Jana) and nobody cares about the boys. The endless parade of sheltered, barely-out-of-their-teens moms churning out babies is more depressing than interesting, as is watching the younger kids run screaming around the TTH while receiving no education or parenting. Even snarking on them is losing its appeal, because there’s nothing interesting to discuss.

i feel like TLC is really missing an opportunity here to revitalize the show and make it interesting by following the married girls and giving a realistic portrayal of their lives.  Talk to Abbie about hyperemesis, and how being pregnant was not the joyful experience she anticipated. Ask her how she feels about the thought of experiencing it 10 more times.Talk to Jill about her struggles having to spend so much time alone with the boys, and learning to renegotiate an adult relationship with her parents. Talk to Ginger about the uncertainties of life in image-conscious LA, and how that is affecting her. Get REAL.

But of course that would never happen, because the Duggars would have to agree to admit their childhood and faith might not be perfect.

right.  Good idea that won't happen - they have sugar coated everything so far.  Not likely to change.  I'll bet Kendra has some melt down moments and then feels guilty about them.

Agreed. Kendra seemed overwhelmed at times with just one kid. It would be interesting to see how she's handling two.

@mynextmistake. Great ideas. Let's hope TLC reads here.

My opinion is that Kendra is still a 'little girl' and she is now saddled with the sole responsibility for two babies with no other siblings to help her out like at her parents' house. I think she's not prepared for this much responsibility all at once...marriage, sex, household chores and now babies. Lauren, the drama queen, is young also and I think experiences the same, mostly acting out with her 'tantrums'

If only they weren’t raised in a cult obsessed with virginity till marriage and then pop out as many kids as possible because that’s what their God wants them to do, they’d actually have a few years to get to know each other and bring children into the world when they are ready (or maybe decide children aren’t for them at all). I don’t blame Lauren for having “tantrums” it’s the only thing she has in her life that she can control. I’m not saying I like the way she behaves but I can’t blame her. I do hope Kendra and Joe slow down the baby train but I doubt it.

Kendra went from 0-100 within the span of 24 hours. They were so strict on the touching while courting and during the engagement. She legitimately got pregnant within the first couple of tries (Garrett was born 273 days after the wedding). Going from 10 second sidehugs to having sex with no prep time in-between is not healthy.

My idle speculation is that the Dugs didn't expect Lauren to be this much of a drama queen. Once they had her paired off with Josiah there was no going back though.

I wouldn't be surprised if Justin is courting though. If they are savvy she'll be TV ready and a sympathetic character for the audience by the time all is said and done. But this is the Duggars we are talking about so I'm doubtful they are actively searching for women that will connect to the TeeVee audience.

I know a couple of Laurens in real life. For them it's not about control. They are all about attention and drama. They can somehow turn anything at all into a negative. And everything thing they do is some kind of self-sacrifice.

We secretly call one of the Laurens "even though". I dust even though it irritates my allergies. I ski with my husband even though I hate the cold. I love my son's tutor even though she's a half hour away.

I imagine being a Duggar is very hard for Lauren. Her need for attention will always be unfulfilled with them. But she will turn that into 'even thoughs'.

I loved being at my inlaws for Christmas even though I hate crowds. I went on the marriage retreat even though I had morning sickness...

Yes, I think she expected being part of a famous TV family (who also consider themselves Fundie Royalty) would bring her a lot more attention than she's gotten. The courtship/engagement/wedding didn't cause much of a stir because there have just been so damn many of them by now. Except for Anna, who is part of the constant drama surrounding Josh, the fans will always be more interested in the daughters than in the daughters-in-law. She's married to Josiah, who falls right in the middle of the pack and has never been one of his parents' favorites. I think she was shocked to discover how low her place on the Duggar pecking order really is.
