The Duggars: In the Media and TLC

Guest

As a reminder, the site's Politics Policy remains in effect.  Yes, Jim Bob is apparently running for office again. That does not make it an acceptable topic of conversation in here - unless for some mysterious reason, TLC brings the show back and it is discussed on there. Even then, it would be limited to how it was discussed on the show.

If you have any questions, please PM the mods, @SCARLETT45 and myself.

They're all dressed in the same outfits as the promo photos as last season, which makes it look photoshopped somehow. Joy is pregnant with Gideon in that photo.  Jinger with the baby about to be born.

Maybe that's the reason. Maybe their trying to hide everyone's midsection to hide pregnancies and non-pregnancies to avoid 'time stamping' the photos and to keep viewers guessing as to who is pregnant and how far along they are.

That has to be the absolute worst composition for a group photo that I've ever seen. You've got super tall Jeremy and Derrick way off the the left and then the entire right side looks like a bunch of miniature people tacked on as an afterthought. Bin and Jessa are over exaggerating the fake excitement and Joseph looks like he's about to take flight. TLC is really out of fucks to give, aren't they?

I just f'love that picture! It's one of the worst group photos ever taken. Each and every person in it manages to look either awkward, foolish, or deranged. Derwood is the best though. He looks like some random hobo who wandered into the picture. I may have to change my profile pic to a close up of him in that shot. I love the long, hippy-esque tresses just a'swinging in the breeze ... who knew the look was nothing but a cover designed to conceal the hateful craziness that lurked within him? The asshole!

Jingle and Jeremy look fairly normal but that only serves to emphasize how odd everyone else looks. I like how Jeremy is clutching Jingle's arm as if to say to her, "no we are not going to join in with a ridiculous pose, too, honey.  Let's just stand here looking dignified compared to the rest of these clowns."

LOL It's fabulously awful! Derick does look like a random hobo, but I think my favorite for this pic is Austin. He looks like an ax murderer they dragged out of a dark alley and told to look friendly.

It's Jana's arm & Joy's hand. Joy has her arm around Jessa. I think Jana is probably clasping her hands together. I also think Joy is supposed to be looking at Jinger pushing her way in, not rolling her eyes. Even their professional shots are stupid. Jeremy wouldn't have let Joy look like that.

Had a hard time figuring out who Joy reminded me of in that picture....it just came to me....Rodney Dangerfield!

Derick looks like hobo, because?? His hair is long? He has a beard? His clothes at least are neat and clean. He looks clean if not clean-cut.

It's a combination of the scrawny body, shaggy hair, ragged beard, the too-big flannel shirt/ beat up jeans ... He looks like he's spent a hard year ridin' the rails eating pork and beans out of the can while he sits by a campfire. If he had a beat up hat and a stick with a bandana tied into a little bindle at the end, he'd be *perfect*

Exactly!

If we was sitting on a sidewalk somewhere I'd drop some coins his way. Oh, wait! I better not give him any ideas for a new grift!

Omg, that's so true. It looks like he and JD are having a contest to see who can look creepiest.

Josiah looks like he wants to crawl in a hole and die.  Poor kid, he knew what life held in store for him.  Joe looks like he just finished a tap dance number or something. Ta-da!

Good Lord, I can’t even tell the difference between Joe and Josiah. They really are all interchangeable.

Dear @Celia Rubenstein, as much as I love your current avatar, (me in 20 years;) I think Derwood's stupid asshole pic would be a lovely tribute to that prick.

I am sure that Jer absolutely hates the obligatory visits to AR.  Who in their right mind, wouldn't?

What's indescribable to me is that these photos get taken by (presumably) a big-city professional; and clearly the above has to be the result of the photog giving them some "wacky" instruction.  Only in this case, regrettably it looks like his/her mandate was, "OK, now everybody look like they're trying to rush me and the camera!"

I think the photographer was trying to create a sense of "energy" from these blobs. It also looks very very photoshopped. I can't believe that TLC couldn't have gotten a better photo, and a better job of photoshopping if anyone had cared at all.

Plus, let's not forget Duggars can't dance, so the photographer can't have them dance about like loons or even wiggle goofily, so is more or less hamstrung in ways to loosen them up.

People magazine has been doing mostly web articles about the Duggars. In the latest print issue, with Whitney Houston on the cover, there was a one page feature on Josiah's wedding. It took up the entire verso side of one page in People. It was mostly photos with a few quotes from the happy couple. They love children and look forward to starting a family together. Josiah says his family gave him advice to put Lauren first.

I have always believed the real reason the Duggar family has 'decided' that dancing COULD BE sinful and avoid it is only because Jim Bob Duggar can't dance worth squat....so he doesn't allow any one else to either.

I don't disagree entirely, but AFAIK, Jim Bob was reared Southern Baptist, and that church has a long tradition of banning dancing.

Just based on my observation, I don't think that prohibition on dancing has been all that strictly followed by Baptists these days, but if JB sucks at dancing, of course he will see no reason for his family to depart from the old ways. I wonder if Gothard also preached against dancing. I remember reading an interview with Boob and Mullet during their heyday, earnestly explaining how dancing (and I think also music with a backbeat) is just too high risk for sinful thoughts and feelings, to be allowed in their world for their offspring. IMO that whole line of thought is so moronic I can't even. And of course those vessels of hypocrisy and greed were at that time blithely covering up the fact that their precious oldest son had molested five tiny little girls in their righteous godly home. If I believed in Hell, it would have a special and torturous place for those two horrible people.

How do they feel about Gospel music? Because to my atheist ear, a gospel beat is about the sexiest thing there is. Kind of like a waltz on steroids.

When I read your post, my mind went straight to that joke, then I saw your comments!!  It cracked me up!!

Of course, Boob doesn't let any of this stop him from acting like he did on the mini golf course, does it??  Thank goodness there was no music playing!

Did Michelle dance during her defrauding cheerleader dating years?

Could be another reason Boob hates it.  He thinks nothing of dry humping and making an ass of himself every which way, but I can't picture him dancing without looking even more ridiculous.

Now I want to see your deleted joke, @Jeeves!  PM it to me if you would be so kind.

Back in my Seventh Day Adventist days, dancing ( and all other fun) was most definitely evil! The Adventists love Ellen White, who has this to say about dancing:

I live up the street from the (recently torn down) building Ellen White had her vision in. Tour busses would make pilgrimages and people would pour out to take pictures. For years there was a dive bar on the first floor.

I went to a Christian (Free Methodist) college where we signed a Lifestyle Statement saying we wouldn’t have sex, drink, smoke...or dance. Same for me when I went to college!  They only recently allowed dancing!

Why do these take so long to produce? Joe & Kendra have been married long enough to have a baby and yet TLC is just now showing their honeymoon. These people are boring as &%*# to begin with, but waiting so long to air the shows makes them even more boring because we've already seen & read about it. I don't how many episodes a year TLC airs, but I think they'd do better to air 4 weeks worth every 3 months. At least then we wouldn't be hearing about a honeymoon a year after it happened.

You've got to be kidding me. So we're getting the SiRen courtship, JoKen honeymoom, J'Austin "midwife" appointment and JinJer baby announcement, meanwhile we've already seen Si's wedding and the latter three couples have already given birth. They've got to find some way to produce these episodes closer to real time.

In the 8/13 episode, we have events that happened in February (the babymoon) and JinJer's announcement (Thanksgiving). How effed up is that? If they're going to show events that happened months ago, at least make them linear.

We'll need score cards to keep this all straight.

I hate this new structure that started with Joy-Anna’s wedding of the “event” then the “flashback” to the process. It’s awful.

They can produce them they don’t want to- no idea why.

Maybe they should just go back to VSEs - in real time. That's basically what these episodes are.

It seems all reality shows eventually start only filming birthdays, vacations and wedding renewals. The producers seem to forget that they gained viewers by showing a day-in-the-life-of episodes.

Yes- maybe see what the Seawalds, Vuluos, Forsyths, and Joe &Kendra do on a daily basis, though it probably won’t be that interesting as they haven’t reached “mega family” size yet.....they are just young marrieds. I don’t think they will show much of what Jana and JD do as they will have to be at TTH.....although I would be interested in watching Jana run the household.
