Quite a fall for Jill, from being featured in the title (it was "Jill and Jessa: Counting On" at first), to not being on the show (and thus not in the group photo). She must be so thrilled with that #besthusbandever of hers who once bought her chocolate milk and got them canned from TLC. Or quit TLC, depending on which story one believes.

I thought this back with the original "Jill and Jessa: Counting On" promo pictures and it goes double with this one--it's amazing how you can tell from still photos that this is a family that does not display any physical affection towards each other ever. I don't know *how* Jana touching Jessa's back looks unnatural, but it does.

 

It's Jana's arm & Joy's hand. Joy has her arm around Jessa. I think Jana is probably clasping her hands together. I also think Joy is supposed to be looking at Jinger pushing her way in, not rolling her eyes. Even their professional shots are stupid. Jeremy wouldn't have let Joy look like that.

I don't know what fascinates me about watching (un)reality shows about cults.  I think it might be partly because I'm thankful not to have been brought up by the kinds of parents depicted on them.

I also find cults fascinating! A few months ago, I read some eerie but excellent books on Jim Jones and Charles Manson. They make Gothard/the Duggars look like amateurs, of course, but there's definitely some similarities.

I agree the *idea* is that Joy is "looking at her standing siblings".  The photographer should have been smart enough to direct her to either look diagonally at either of Jana or Kendra IMO, as opposed to going straight up; because of course "straight up" looks like she's rolling her eyes.  Or dead.

I think this was one of a whole series of pictures that was taken when the photographer said something like "sqeeze in real tight! Jessa, hug Joy!" It's a bit sad to think that this was the best photo out of hundreds.

Wow, they're dropping like flies. No Anna. No Jill. They (JB) stuck Kendra in there so the viewers won't know the count is off.

They don't look like any fun at all. And again: scissors needed. For the hair and for the raggy infinity scarf.

Aaaand , are they (JB) trying to hide the pregnant bellies to draw in more mainstream viewers......or to keep the suspense going? Neither are working.

Jessa is still trying way harder than anyone else to make this happen.

Joy looks like a cartoon character. The deranged sidekick.

They're all dressed in the same outfits as the promo photos as last season, which makes it look photoshopped somehow. Joy is pregnant with Gideon in that photo.  Jinger with the baby about to be born.

Maybe that's the reason. Maybe their trying to hide everyone's midsection to hide pregnancies and non-pregnancies to avoid 'time stamping' the photos and to keep viewers guessing as to who is pregnant and how far along they are.

I just f'love that picture! It's one of the worst group photos ever taken. Each and every person in it manages to look either awkward, foolish, or deranged. Derwood is the best though. He looks like some random hobo who wandered into the picture. I may have to change my profile pic to a close up of him in that shot. I love the long, hippy-esque tresses just a'swinging in the breeze ... who knew the look was nothing but a cover designed to conceal the hateful craziness that lurked within him? The asshole!

Jingle and Jeremy look fairly normal but that only serves to emphasize how odd everyone else looks. I like how Jeremy is clutching Jingle's arm as if to say to her, "no we are not going to join in with a ridiculous pose, too, honey.  Let's just stand here looking dignified compared to the rest of these clowns."

That has to be the absolute worst composition for a group photo that I've ever seen. You've got super tall Jeremy and Derrick way off the the left and then the entire right side looks like a bunch of miniature people tacked on as an afterthought. Bin and Jessa are over exaggerating the fake excitement and Joseph looks like he's about to take flight. TLC is really out of fucks to give, aren't they?

LOL It's fabulously awful! Derick does look like a random hobo, but I think my favorite for this pic is Austin. He looks like an ax murderer they dragged out of a dark alley and told to look friendly.

It's a combination of the scrawny body, shaggy hair, ragged beard, the too-big flannel shirt/ beat up jeans ... Dear @Celia Rubenstein, as much as I love your current avatar, (me in 20 years;) I think Derwood's stupid asshole pic would be a lovely tribute to that prick.

What's indescribable to me is that these photos get taken by (presumably) a big-city professional; and clearly the above has to be the result of the photog giving them some "wacky" instruction.  Only in this case, regrettably it looks like his/her mandate was, "OK, now everybody look like they're trying to rush me and the camera!"

I think the photographer was trying to create a sense of "energy" from these blobs. It also looks very very photoshopped. I can't believe that TLC couldn't have gotten a better photo, and a better job of photoshopping if anyone had cared at all.

Plus, let's not forget Duggars can't dance, so the photographer can't have them dance about like loons or even wiggle goofily, so is more or less hamstrung in ways to loosen them up.

This entire string of comments re: the deranged group picture is killing me.  I rarely actually laugh out loud at something I read online, but you guys are on fire.  And I don't want to admit to my husband what I'm laughing at, so the muffled laughter might actually kill me.

People magazine has been doing mostly web articles about the Duggars. In the latest print issue, with Whitney Houston on the cover, there was a one page feature on Josiah's wedding. It took up the entire verso side of one page in People. It was mostly photos with a few quotes from the happy couple. They love children and look forward to starting a family together. Josiah says his family gave him advice to put Lauren first.

I have always believed the real reason the Duggar family has 'decided' that dancing COULD BE sinful and avoid it is only because Jim Bob Duggar can't dance worth squat....so he doesn't allow any one else to either.

I don't disagree entirely, but AFAIK, Jim Bob was reared Southern Baptist, and that church has a long tradition of banning dancing. 

Just based on my observation, I don't think that prohibition on dancing has been all that strictly followed by Baptists these days, but if JB sucks at dancing, of course he will see no reason for his family to depart from the old ways. I wonder if Gothard also preached against dancing. I remember reading an interview with Boob and Mullet during their heyday, earnestly explaining how dancing (and I think also music with a backbeat) is just too high risk for sinful thoughts and feelings, to be allowed in their world for their offspring.
