Janelle Brown: Smarter Than Your Average Brown (Maybe)

It mystifies me why on earth Janelle will do anything to stay in Kootie's good graces.  It's truly baffling.

It may be low self esteem issues.  I don't know what caused the breakup of her marriage to Meri's brother but if he was as domineering as Meri, that may have been a factor.  Janelle may just feel that this is as good as it gets for her.

I think Janelle is passive and terribly lazy, and takes the path of least resistance. Leaving Kody permanently takes effort. Letting Kody come by once a month and calling it a marriage is much easier, with no confrontation. Janelle's kids do whatever they want as well. The one kid who was visiting his girlfriend during Covid appeared to have zero respect for either of his parents. And Janelle did nothing to put his attitude in check, and didn't appear upset at all by his attitude. Christine mostly raised Janelle's older kids, and now that she has to do it herself, this is what you get.

I am curious as to where Janelle is planning to spend the winter.

Lots of couples have unequal relationships. Many stay with their partner despite abuse or gross neglect for various reasons. That’s worrisome but nothing new.

A lot of people assume that Kody neglects Janelle and that she’s the victim.    And while I won’t deny that it really looks that way (mansion vs RV) and I definitely do not approve of it, I’ve come to the conclusion that she seems perfectly fine with an absent husband. Of all the wives, she hardly complains about anything, let alone Kody’s absence, she doesn’t radiate unhappiness and seems happy with her independence and doing her own lazy, nonsense things…

And maybe that's how she likes it.  Just because it wouldn't work for a lot of us, doesn't mean it isn't working for her.

True, but it also doesn't mean she isn't a masochist!  😉

Agree.  I think she is mostly content with her situation, but I do believe that she loves him more than she shows.

If I were in this situation, I too would be happy with my one day a week with the husband and free to do what I wanted when he's not around.

@Roslyn, that’s very insightful. Maybe this is exactly what Janelle wants. One thing that I appreciate about Janelle is that she doesn’t post cryptic bullshit on social media that hints at strife in her marriage while at the same time proclaiming how strong she is, and then turns around to says everyone misunderstood her and her marriage is awesome (contrary to everything shown on the show). Meri has that market cornered.

Yes- I don’t think Janelle was ever “in love” with Kody in the romantic sense.

I think Janelle wanted to have children (like many people) but wasn’t interested in being a primary caregiver. If you’re the one with the uterus that’s a bit harder to work around unless you 1. Can afford to outsource all of the help, 2. Have an extended family (like a parent or aunt/uncle) that will be happy to take on the caregiving role for you. (Most men in our culture aren’t primary caregivers if the bio-mom is available).

I think Janelle is heterosexual and early on her relationship with Kody and the other wives gave her a way to get many of her needs met. Yeah she LIKED Kody well enough, and she wasn’t repulsed by him, but I don’t think she was ever “in love”.

I think the adults in that family that have the best most fulfilling relationship are Janelle & Christine.

At this point Janelle has one child left at home, she probably doesn’t feel the need to rock the status quo. We often comment that Kody doesn’t have the sex drive he used to have, it’s likely Janelle doesn’t either, so Kody not being around might not bother her that much (from a sexual perspective).

Do the rags like People have to pay them for articles if all the info is gleaned from public social media?

Hmm, looks like the new season is pretty much a redux of last season. I hope this time Kody's head actually explodes, sending ramen noodle hair strands flying out like shrapnel.

I think if the article is, “exclusive “ they get paid, but they don’t when it’s just info gathered from social media.

Based on the book it appears that as  Janelle and her mother were sailing from the LDS church toward polygamy, Adam was sailing from the shores of polygamy where his mother had planted her family to the land of the LDS.

Several members of her family cut ties with Janelle and her mother which probably caused them to double down on their commitment to polygamy.  Because she came from the LDS, she had fewer choices of people to marry.   She already knew Meri and she thought Kody was cute so in a way it was a practical choice and a marriage of convenience for her.  It probably wasn't too easy to find potential polygs as this was long before dating sites such as Polygsrus.com or poly.com

I get that Janelle's idea of fun is roasting  hot dogs and making s'mores. Unfortunately, neither Truely nor Savanah look like they're having fun. They look totally bored und slightly uncomfortable.

Truely might be having a decent time because she gets to go home to a warm house with a nice private bedroom.  Savannah knows that she gets to head back into a confined space with almost no place to call her own that smells like sweat, Plexus and dog farts.

I also wonder if the glum look of the photo is because the two girls are both in the midst of yet another life-changing upheaval...both Christine and Janelle appear to be in the process of pulling up stakes and moving again (to who knows where).

I’m wondering if Janelle is sort of waiting around to see where everyone is going to end up and that’s why she’s really not committing on another lease or purchase. If she can get power to her property, she might explore these houses. I saw a piece about them on tv.  It’s new technology called 3D houses.  Originally, designed for the homeless and seniors.  They seem to be expanding.  Quite attractive and low cost too.

That seems awfully pragmatic for the Browns but maybe?

I love those 3D homes. Very attractive. Again, probably way too pragmatic for the Browns but not a bad idea!

Didn’t know this was a new thing.  Here in Wisconsin, they will refill upon request unless you decide to exchange.

When I lived in CA until we had propane piped in we always refilled the canister. Here in MT when I used my propane bbq I always refilled instead of exchanged. Not anything new and amazing!

🙄

Oh Geez Janelle... The places that you go to for tank exchange sell by price.  They only partially fill the tank so that the "price per tank" looks lower, but in actuality the tank is as little as half full. If you go to fill the tank instead of just exchange...they fill the tank to its intended volume. Coupled with the fact that it is overall cheaper to just have a jumbo tank of propane and fill the smaller tanks than shipping around the small tanks to begin with.  That's why the price is actually cheaper to fill vs swap.

Can Janelle claim a homestead exemption on Coyote Pass since she’s “living” there now?

I was just thinking that, didn't she have to apply for a permit to RV there? I thought it could only be temporary and it appears to me that if she is just learning to refill her propane tanks, she plans on staying a while. I am sure people who live close by probably aren't thrilled there are squatters in sense on land they paid probably a pretty penny to build their "dream homes" on.

Yes, I think she applied for some sort of permit.  I know Janelle said she was going “somewhere” for the winter, but just wondered if she wondered parking a trailer there was considered the same as a house in regards to getting an exemption.  Honestly, the only thing I find interesting about this show at this point are the finances.

Screenshot from a video, plexus blah, blah, blah, gut health, blah, blah, no sugar cravings, blah, blah, blah.

Yet, she started the video talking about pumpkin spice stuff she has to try, and now with the holidays coming it’s going to be hard.

Whatever.
