Popular Post JeanJean March 28, 2022 Popular Post Share March 28, 2022 (edited) At first I thought WS's speech with the crying was going to be a burst of self-awareness, but then it wasn't. He needed to apologize to Chris Rock first and foremost. Protecting your family in this case would have been going up to Rock after and talking to him about it, not disrupting the show. Williams didn't deck the adult Spanish tennis player when she used a dirty trick to psyche out Venus at Venus's first pro match. And Venus was only 14 at the time. Apologizing to CR would have been grace; instead it came off as just "poor me." Lady Calypso March 28, 2022 Share March 28, 2022 So, here's where I stand. Chris Rock's jab at Jada was inappropriate. When you're going to joke about someone's insecurities, maybe make sure they're ok with it before you do it. I don't know how well Chris Rock knows Jada or Will, but this is why "edgy" humour is hit or miss. And I've read that this isn't the first time Chris has made a jab about Jada. I do not blame Jada or Will for not being ok with the joke. I was fine with Will yelling at Chris about it, even. Unfortunately for Will, what could have been a moment criticizing Chris is a moment criticizing Will with the violence. And now he's gonna have to go on an apology tour instead of celebrating his win. Violence is never the answer and, as we've seen, it's gonna create more problems with you instead of the other person. Because now Chris is the victim and he gets off easy with his jab. I think both look bad, in this scenario. 22 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/33299-the-annual-academy-awards-general-discussion/page/244/#findComment-7368096

ABC was throwing every "bail-out" switch, button or dead chicken over a broadcast console to mitigate the damage. I will say, the guy that directed the show (Glenn Weiss, he of taking the directing job for the Democratic convention during Covid and did so at his LA home wearing shorts, a t-shirt and no shoes with the assistance of having about a zillion dollars of remote truck gear set up in his backyard) didn't miss a shot. The international feeds confirm that. It went wonky for US viewers because ABC made it go wonky.
