I think this is the thread where we were discussing how much some of us love the GEICO "Build Me Up, Buttercup" ad and then someone complained about the woman getting the "girly song" when the guys got "Wild Thing."  I just saw another "Build Me Up, Buttercup" ad with guys in it, so it's not just the girly song. This one's the dude who puts down the white chalk lines in the baseball stadium and instead of the straight lines, he's wandered all over the place, pretending he's on a motocycle.

I love those ads.  Geico has a goldmine if they take it in a right direction.  The song is great. You can't not sing it.  But i have to say i was so embarrassed when i did that very thing. Started singing outloud!  Thankfully i wasn't in public but i did have a guy over!  Sooooooooooooooooooo embarrassed.  As for the guys ad who was supposed to paint the white lines, the should go one step further now and make it like the players have to follow his squiggle hah.

Anyway,  they can even change up the song anytime maybe some EWF.

Speaking of Subaru, I just saw one that made me laugh out loud. The dog family is on the interstate, with their offspring in a car seat in the back when a tractor-trailer comes alongside, driven by another dog. The puppy barks then pumps his "arm" to get the truck driver to blow the air horn. It's the pump action that made me laugh.

That's one of my favorites of the whole dog family series of commercials.  I also like the first day of school:

Dogs have masters, cats have servants.  😀

I love the Subaru dog family (with cat) ads.  Dogs and cats are our family members, our at-home family if you will.

You never met the yellow lab I used to have. She was certain she was the master and we were her servants. She "allowed" us to live with her and take care of her, take her on her car rides, and give her food preferably human food. She got annoyed when corrected on that or when we were off her feeding schedule and would come get you.  She panicked when we left during before it was time for her to eat. She was pretty sure everyone who came to the door was to see her. If she thought she wasn't getting enough attention she would go pouting until you talked to her then she'd run back over all happy. I'm pretty sure she thought the house was the Doggy house.

The first time I heard it was pronounced "queen-o" and apparently it tastes like a dirty, old tree branch.

What is that, a loofah?

Quinoa doesn't taste like a dirty, old tree branch.  It helps to rinse it first to get rid of the bitterness.

Rinse well ... in Bud Lite!

I've never eaten it, it was just what the guy in the commercial said and it always makes me laugh.

Quinoa:  The New Alfalfa Sprouts.

I've never heard of it either.  How do you pronounce Quinoa?

Oh ok so I just Googled Quinoa and I've found out A.) What it is and B.) How to pronounce it -- keen waa

Who knew.  Now that I know that the commercial is funny 😄😄

I am really liking the commercial with Viola Davis pitching some kind of cream for L'oreal.  She radiates confidence.  I think she is a national treasure.  And it's especially great to see a dark-skinned black woman in her 50s being chosen as the face of a beauty campaign.

She's talked before in interviews about how tough it is for an older dark-skinned black woman like herself to make it in the industry, so I am sure she feel especially elated about being this campaign's spokesperson.

I am happy for her.  And still pissed that Frances stole her Oscar. :P

I only found this commercial once, and I can't remember what kind of pet treat it was advertising, but my new favorite features a guy marooned on an island, and he spelled out "help" with sticks.  His dog takes the lower portion of the "p" though, so it spells "helo."  A copter or plane flies over and he's desperately trying to get their attention while the dog proudly runs around with the stick.  The pilot and passenger wave back and sweetly call out "Hello!" and leave.  The ad states that they have something better for your dog to chew on.

I think this is the same company that had the ad at Christmas where the dog had taken the stick that was the snowman's arm and the snowman looks down and screams in absolute horror.

I haven't seen this one on tv yet, but:

I have mixed feelings. One one hand, it's adorable and the sentiment is very true to life (I say this as an introvert whose office never shut down and whose boyfriend has been her bubble from day one, and it still rings true); on the other, maybe I like it so much because it's a representation of what I wish the 'end' of the pandemic would look like (EVERY restriction becomes unnecessary for EVERYONE at a specific and obvious time, and we're all too relieved to care about awkwardness, we just stampede for the door in delirious happiness and commence hugging strangers) rather than what will actually be/is already being the case (a slow drift back towards routine as staggered groups wait out their vaccinations, with the novelty wearing off for some long before others - especially parents - can even know when they'll feel safe).

Is Extra the one that used to have commercials about people kissing endlessly, or am I thinking of Big Red?

Oh, thanks a lot, you two - now I have that jingle in my head!  "Say goodbye a little longer, something something a little longer, give your breath long-lasting freshness with Big Re-ed."

Something something is "make it last a little longer".  Ah 1980s commercials, before the era of Viagra.

The opening lines were "so kiss a little longer, laugh a little longer, stay close a little longer, longer with Big Red".    I remember my teenage self always chuckling at "a little longer".

If it's stuck in your head, you could probably remove it by singing the Doublemint commercial ("Double your pleasure, double your fun, it's the right one, the Doublemint gum, double your pleasure, double your fun, with the Doublemint, Doublemint gum") while picturing twins on bicycles and popping out from behind one another.  Or screech out the Nair commercial ("Who wears short shorts?  We wear short shorts!  If you dare wear short shorts, get Nair for short shorts!)

They don't make catchy jingles like they used to anymore.

Isn't it great that they haven't sold their music to commercials yet?  At least, not that I've heard.

Paranoid was the very first song I sang to my eldest when he was born.  I was too damn tired to think of anything else after the delivery.

"Hush little baby don't you cry *BANGS HEAD* finished with my woman 'cause she couldn't help me with my mind..."
