As much as it truly grinds me to defend any portion of the whackadoodle spew that Jill emits, I believe that “Englisher” is in fact a term used by the Amish to describe non-Amish people. (Hating myself a little right now.)

Yes, it is. That's why it didn't bother me either. Maybe they called her an Englisher to her face at one point. 

I'm more intrigued by her newfound pathological obsession with documenting every trip to the store. At first, I thought it was just her being an asshole about social distancing--and I am sure it's that too--but it seems to go well beyond it. That hashtag #feedingourbigfamily. 🙄 I think the speculation on here she may have had CPS called on her about feeding the kids and that precipitated the move to another state was correct. She's incapable of subtlety, and I think this constant song and dance about "feeding" her kids is her defense. Sadly, I don't believe for a minute she's feeding them any better than she was, despite the photo ops. 😞

Can someone tell Jill that many of the Amish do not like having their pictures taken. I believe some do not mind if their faces are not recognizable, but I am pretty sure Jill did not ask them if it was okay for her to take their picture and post it on social media.

I am not at all shocked that Jill and co. did not wear a masks to the store. How many people went on this shopping trip?

Like 20 years ago, I worked in an Amish community. They considered the non Amish  Yankees and English. I really loved the women who would speak English in one aisle of the store, but German when they got to the front of the store. Tricky Amish!

She had a c-section because both babies were breech, and she is allowed only one visitor, the same visitor, for her entire stay.  This is the Atlanta suburbs.

It looks like she is wearing the sweater over the halter dress.  One side I think her purse is pressing down on it, but I swear it looks like the cardigan is pinned to the dress so that we can't get a glimpse of bare shoulders if the sweater moves. 

I have no words for the hair and excessive makeup just to go to the store....

I suppose than in all reality, none of the faces in the photo is really recognizable. Plus it doesn't appear that any (or at least many) of the Amish are wearing masks either. Not that that makes it any better, but at least she is not going against the grain there. 

But as for "fitting in", as others have mentioned, the hair, makeup and clothing are all practically diametrically opposed to the Amish. The only thing they possibly have in common is the fact that they are covered from wrist to ankle, but the Amish also cover their heads.

And I do think she is wearing that sweater under the dress. At first, it looked as though it might have a gathered sort of opening, but zooming in, it looks like a pullover, with the dress over it. Looks extremely uncomfortable in addition to awkward as hell.

Besides everything else, why would they be going to the store to "pick up a couple of things" in this climate? Shouldn't they be planning ahead to make sure they have enough to feed their family for at least a week before venturing out again? Sadly, I suspect that what we see may indeed be most of what they are going to have for the next week.

Two dozen eggs is two meals if each person gets an entire egg. If each person gets half an egg as a serving, that's four very small meals. If three kids are fasting for Jesus, each person might get 3/4 of an egg, so maybe three meals' worth. If David expects two eggs on his plate, well, recalculate. 

Jill wants to show off how full the cart is for just a quick run to the store. However, it doesn't make sense. Unless they're broke, which is possible, what's the point of buying a single loaf of bread when feeding an army? Jill thinks she's fooling her critics, but she just ends up looking arrogant and dumb. 

Also, Jill is delusional if she thinks she and her daughters blend in with this community. They look like the local house of ill repute took an afternoon off to go shopping.

I can't stand a messy shopping cart especially in the grocery store. I like to put same type of items together so they get checked out& packed in bags together.  (Ex:  all frozen together,  all dairy,  all bread, etc.)   Helps putting it all  away.  

Don't  they buy in bulk especially with the laundry detergent and dish soap?  I know Renee said this is a just run in for a few things shopping trip but I would think having a large family would make her be prepared so they don't run out .

In Jill's defense, some store are putting limits on things. There's an Aldi right across the street from my apartment complex. I don't know if they are limiting eggs, but they have a 1 meat item limit. Not one pack of chicken, one pack of pork, just 1 meat total. My mom and I went to Walmart the other night. I had 2 cartons of eggs, she had 1. She was planning on paying for both our orders. The cashier told us they were limiting eggs to one carton per person ( I swear I looked for a sign by the eggs, there wasn't one, just a general sign saying they were limiting things, but those are all over the store). I had to put one carton of my eggs away and we had to split the order into 2. I did a quick search, the closest Sam's Club where they might be able to buy bulk Is about 30 miles from Wooster.... there's 2 Aldis within 5 miles. 

As for the Amish and pictures, it's always rude to take pictures of people you don't know, but they aren't anti pictures amongst themselves by a long shot. When I worked in an Amish community, we couldn't keep film or disposable cameras in stock, and the amount of undeveloped rolls and developed pictures that went in and out of the store was astronomical. It was 20 years ago, so before smart phones. Let me tell you how much fun it was trying to make sure you gave the right pictures to the right customer.... when there's like 3 Amish last names, Miller, Byler, and Yoder.

The Amish don't like their pictures taken for religious reasons, they consider them 'graven images' which the Bible speaks against.  As far as I know, it doesn't matter if their faces are seen, they don't want their pictures taken and amongst those of us 'Englishers' who've lived near Amish communities for most of our lives, we respect their beliefs and don't photograph them without asking first.  Or, don't photograph them, ever.

Those of us who've had exposure to the Amish having lived near them for most of our lives would also usually not refer to ourselves as 'Englishers' or 'Yankees' (Amish terms for non-Amish) because it is akin to mocking their language and accents, IMO.

As for refusing to wear a mask and then stopping to pose for pictures in the middle of a public place, well, that's just rude.  While I get it that the Amish aren't wearing masks, it doesn't excuse Jill and her brood from wearing them, especially since we already know that they have been ignoring guidelines on social distancing and large gatherings all along.  The Rodriguii are far more likely to carry Covid than the typical Amish housewife.

As for Jill thinking they fit right in with the Amish, it is to laugh.  If she wants to find a crowd where they can blend in and feel inconspicuous (never in a million years does Jill want to go unnoticed, but let's pretend); Jill and the girls need to hop in a DeLorean and take a trip back to 1962 and hit the Kroger with Betty Draper.  NotNurie looks like an extra on Mad Men.

I don't care about her sweater since it is always freezing in the grocery store and I have been known to wear some odd ensembles there, too. Also, most grocery stores are putting limits on staples like bread and eggs and such around here, so it is possible NotNurie can't get more than one or two of certain items.

Are you sure they weren't Mennonites?  There are different types of Amish communities out there, Mennonites broke away from the Amish a while back and they're crazy liberal compared to the Old Order Amish.  There are also different Amish sects; so maybe some of them have loosened up on the photo restrictions; but, having lived in NE Ohio most of my life and encountering Amish fairly often (they love the zoo, BTW); I was raised by my parents to not take photos of them.   Around these parts; we've got some Taylors thrown in for good measure, but, you're right, there are a very small number of Amish surnames and it is hard to tell who's who, especially when everyone is wearing essentially the same outfit.

A couple years back, we got a resident in OB/GYN who had a typical Amish surname.  She was clearly not Amish (they don't go to med school, she was wearing pants and earrings).  I asked her about it and she was surprised I knew.  Her dad was raised Amish, but left when he reached adulthood.  He was a dairy farmer, though, and I'm sure he learned the trade from the Plain People.

Yeah, no, they were Amish. It was Middlefield. LOL! I worked for Ames and film and pics came in and out of the electronics department. Tons of film and pics flowed in and out. Sure not all of it was Amish, but I'd say probably close to 50%. There was a few things we couldn't ever have enough of, film, pet supplies, and candy. It was like they had discovered animals for pets, not work animals, for the first time, photographs, and candy, it was like Halloween amounts year round. Oh and greeting cards and fabric! I had worked at 2 different locations in Lake County before going to Middlefield and the things customers wanted in Middlefield were heavily influenced by the Amish.

LOL! Everyone thinks the Amish live such clean lives and eat such healthy diets.  Nope!  They're the biggest junk food junkies out there.  Aside from the fact that everything they eat is covered in butter and/or gravy, they love their sweets.  Follow an Amish person through the store and you'll see them loading the cart with chips and candy.

I got a puppy from a rescue down in Holmes County where they still consider dogs to be a commodity; I'm glad some of them treat them as pets.
