Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

They are supposedly friends of the entire Duggar clan and have attended several of the weddings, including Jill Duggar's.

Jill Rodriguez has a blog which she uses to tout their 'ministry' (they sing at fundie churches and her chubby hubby does printing for various fundie causes).  On it, she brags about their close ties to the entire Duggar family including photos of various weddings, etc.  She also is currently marketing her 18 year old daughter Nurie in hopes of getting her married off ASAP.  Google Rodriguez Family Ministries and you'll find it.

JillRod is the product of a strict fundie upbringing and was homeschooled and is now doing the same for her own brood.  Reading the blog is an adventure (!!!!) in PUNCTUATION, capitalization and plain old bad writing. (smile).

Facebook page.  They also have a blog, but I forget its name. I know someone else here will supply it. Jill seems to have abandoned it recently in favor of the FB to do Live presentations to sell her Plexus crap. They also have a YouTube (same name, I think) where you can find house tours, makeup tutorials and more! Have fun going down THAT rabbithole.

Mr Rodrigues, I'm going to give you a fashion tip.  If you have a "portly" figure, horizontal stripes are not your friend.

Why are those poor girls going with Michael pearl?  That is so worrisome!

So his wife writes the blanket training books, is there something known about him besides being her husband?

Well, they both write them. Which is probably enough to make most of us loathe him. plus, he seems to be the main driver of their "philosophy" (or whatever the hell it is.) And then of course there's his story of their honeymoon -- which I'd say is a key beef against him, among women, anyway.... -- So I'd say he's likely to preach a lot of submission-to-males to those girls. But in their case, it certainly won't be anything they haven't heard already.

That honeymoon story was appalling.....Although I shouldn't be surprised.  Anyone who believes in beating babies would have no problem treating his wife like that on their honeymoon.

That may be one of the worst fundie things I ever read, and I've read extracts of Before you Meet Prince Charming, Return of the daughters and books that I randomly picked up about how the bible predicted the soaring price of gas in the 20-00s and cabbage patch kids steal children's souls.

It really reads like a parody.  Something right out of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" but that was a silly movie from the 1950s set in the 1850s.  And even there the brothers learned better by the end of the movie, but I doubt this guy has.

I wonder if that guy that was running a camp to hook up single fundy kids has ever come into Jill's orbit. Remember that guy? The Pearls are bad enough to offer something like this. Maybe skeevy child beater offered to take both girls off her hands to arrange a match between a girl with breasts and a godly parent worshipping male. The rule was they must get married because they must obey their parents, and they offered to take the parents place if the mom and dad were too busy to bother with choosing a spouse for their child.

I was going to second the opinion that it reads like a parody...I just can't quite wrap my head around it...Does the story continue? Is there any sense that this was taken out of context and he later goes on to say that his wife made him understand her frustration? Not that I necessarily expect there to be, given that these people beat babies. I can't wrap my head around that either. It's literally more than I can believe to think that all the bits and pieces I've read about the Pearls are not somehow taken out of context, and they are not as bad as they are made out to be. But I suppose there really are some monsters out there...

Well, this isn't the honeymoon story. But it is the "child training philosophy." So if you think you can stomach it, knock yourself out at the Wayback Machine --

And seriously, how the hell can you chastise women for showing too much clavicle and then describe, in detail, on a blog, how many times you had sex with your wife on your honeymoon INCLUDING the effect on her vagina??? Didn't Jesus say something about taking the log our of your own eye before you comment on the mote in someone else's?

That was awful, she is as bad as he is. He was really enjoying hitting the doll, imagine his pleasure when it's a child. Apparently mothers have to go along and not even look sympathetic, that would undermine the fathers authority, sick! It seemed like the audience was having a grand time too, a real bunch of nuts.

But of course Boob and Mullet never engaged in that sort of discipline. They are certain we all know that because they deleted their reference to the Pearl monsters from their website.  In Touch lawyers, make sure to grill them about their discipline. It was on those reports the four are suing about. Why ask? Because more people need to know about this awful cult.

And he's someone who was admired by the Duggar parents once upon a time, at least, as he's greatly admired by many others in this crowd. So when you wonder where Josh would get the idea that a lot of things are okay .... Well, there's this guy....and the Gothard teachings. ... etc.

Michelle's words back in the day "The first time I say it, you obey it." (or something very similar)

I don't know what children it applied to, but I recall Michelle saying she would have a child in a chair, and tell them they had to sit still and be quiet. She says she sat next to them. She started at 5 minutes, and increased the time. That's what I recall.

ETA I put that quote in google and found this , Quiet and Still (2012)

At least Adam just really wanted a maid and a cook and Milly was strong enough to stand up for herself AND teach them god-fearin' menfolk about manners and etiquette. Pearl sounds like he just wants a sex doll that is also able to make him a sandwich. Blech.

Sidenote: I've always made it a personal mission to try to be like Milly. She was strong and assertive and made her own decisions and didn't take lip or orders from any man. I always respected that.

Sky Man won't give me a baby, so trust Sky Man more. If Sky Man does not give me the baby I want, it's Sky Man's plan. If Sky Man does give me the baby I want, it's Sky Man's Plan.

Mental gymnastics, that one.

That is the basis of Christianity. One prays to the Sky Man and Sky Man has three answers: yes, no, or wait. One is just as blessed by no or wait, as one is by yes. In all things, the Sky Man must be praised because he is all seeing and all knowing. If the Sky Man does not give one a baby, it is because the Sky Man knows what is best for one and one must praise him for his compassionate decision.

Because they have been criticized for isolating their children and this is proof that at least one of them is allowed to socialize with someone who's last name is not Duggar. Oh, and lying just comes naturally to these people. They've been misrepresenting their family for so long, they don't even have to think about it anymore.

It was a bible basketball camp. Several Howlers were there along with Boob and pilot JD. Bateses also attended iwth Gil. So, it's not like they were associaating with "regular" people. Sounds like an ATI sponsored event, as they try to branch out in their attempt to appear more "mainstream."

This was the Bateses' post about the camp. Funny that they talk like they've been there for years, when not that long ago on the show, they went to a camp in TN, only becasue Bobby was a counselor.

The Bates family attended this camp last year.  Warden turned out to be quite good at basketball and all of the boys loved it.  They came home and built a basketball court in their backyard.

I can't help but have empathy for Michael or any person facing fertility issues when wanting a baby. My sister tried for years and was unsuccessful. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. And poor Michael was raised as seeing that as the end goal. My heart aches for her.

Wouldn't fertility specialists require that before they put Michaela through all sorts of tests?

Good question. However, would they do this? Wouldn't they have to work around the whole "spilling seed" belief?
