Today I’m just sad. The house feels different. So empty. But I still have Blake.

I’m so sorry Scarlett. I didn’t have internet yesterday. I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you. I hope each day will get easier.

I'm so ready for the summer to be over already. We had the giant Sahara dust plume here for the last few days and it's made my allergies go crazy. Headache, runny nose, sore throat, etc. I keep thinking I'm getting sick but it's just the dust. Wtf 2020? Enough already.

Yep, I'm with you on that. I live outside Houston so it has not been fun. I have allergies all year round but this week has been crazy.

I'm glad to know it's not just me with issues from the dust, but sad that it's making others sick, too. I've felt like I'm coming down with the flu all weekend and even though I know it's just allergies, it still makes my mind go to anxious places. I can see how people freak out over the smallest sniffle and do multiple Covid tests just to be sure.

I hope everyone is feeling better. I'm staying in for the most part, but, have have watery nose.  No sneezing though.  I guess dust allergies.

I wanted to share a VERY inspirational video of a little wise girl.  This isn't new, but, I just saw it.  It's so touching! OMG.  I just love it.  What insight and pure innocence. So fitting for today's situation.

When I was a little girl, my Dad had a friend, Mr. McGee, who hung out at the restaurant next door to where my dad worked.  McGee always had a bag of peanuts with him and, along with my sister and I when we were visiting, he would stand out on the street and call the pigeons and feed them.  He gave them names and swore he knew every one.  One of them only had one leg and he called her 'Tootsie' and she was always first to swoop in for a treat when he arrived.

So, yes, I think pigeons recognize people, at least people who feed them.

ETA: Mr. McGee was a bookie and a booth at the restaurant was his 'office'.  My dad knew some colorful characters in his day.

I'm catching up on reading these threads...a week and a half ago my granddaughter was born. My DIL was able to hold out until 37 1/2 weeks, so no NICU. My granddaughter is perfectly healthy, just tiny. Everyone is at home and settled in.

Thank you.

So happy your grand baby and daughter in law are healthy.

When I had a cracked tooth, it didn't hurt all the time. It was very small.  The dentist speculates I got it from tooth grinding.  It was my second year of law school and stressed out of my mind.  Eventually, it hurt more and more. THEN, over Thanksgiving holiday, when I was out of town visiting my ex's family, it hit big time.  HORRIFIC pain that was non-stop.  I had to rush back home and luckily got into the dentist's office immediately for a root canal and crown.  I do feel for you. Hope it holds til your visit.  I'd call them to confirm it and ask if they will call you if there are any cancellations, explain it's urgent.  My SIL works at a dentist office and they try to get people in the same day, when they are in pain.

I had a cracked tooth several years ago and never even realized it was cracked. I'd had some pain on and off (my wisdom tooth coming in is what cracked it--and I must have just assumed it was from that), but when the dentist told me I had a cracked tooth, I was like "Derp, what?" And he looked at me like I was moron for not noticing. When they finally removed the evil wisdom tooth that broke the other tooth, that hurt like hell.

@jcbrown I hadn't had a chance to comment on your sister, but I hope she is doing better. That sounds so frightening. 😞

I kept calling and begging to be seen as an emergency and was told no daily. Eventually the pain mostly stopped. I decided I’m going to go through it as soon as possible.

@galaxychaser I hope you get really good care very soon.  Like you said fixing teeth costs a fortune.  One thing that worked for me and still does is some kind of sensitive toothpaste.  I've used the stuff from the Dollar Tree, sensodyne, colgate for sensitive teeth and that's worked.  I hope this helps you.

Yep, fireworks nightly around my area for weeks. Luckily we had some rain recently so nothing is too dry but I'm worried about things catching on fire. I truly don't understand the obsession some people have with fireworks at home.

Several years ago it was illegal to have fire works here (it is legal now).  A house a couple of blocks away had a house fire, and suddenly fireworks started shooting out of the roof.  They apparently had a whole garage full of fireworks, and the entire neighborhood was treated to a great show while the fire department was putting out the fire.  I never heard if the homeowners were fined for having fireworks, but it was quite something.  It reminded me of one of my favorite movies, "You Can't Take it With You", when the fireworks that they made in the basement caught on fire.  Only in the movie it was their business.  In the house fire, they were storing illegal fire works.

In our town, fireworks are illegal in the city limits.  On our street, we have THOSE neighbors.  A married couple with two young sons.  The father/husband gets home from work every day around 3:30 in the afternoon, and pretty much spends the rest of his day yelling and screaming at his family, and physically abusing his wife.  The police are called to their house at least once a month, sometimes more.

Last night, I heard fireworks and they seemed way too close for comfort.  Took a look outside, and sure enough, these people were shooting fireworks illegally.  I was going to call the police, but before I could make a move to find my phone, a police car and a big fire engine came barreling down our street with the lights and sirens.  Yep, they started a fire and were forced to call the authorities on themselves.  Fortunately, no one was injured and property damage was minimal so I am free to laugh at their stupidity.

They are such idiots they apparently continued with the fireworks while they waited for the fire department.  🙃

(I feel terrible for their sons.  Even Lollie and Pops would be better parents than these idiots.)

Fireworks were legalized here a couple of years ago and I have never hated our legislature more. Technically, they're only allowed on July 4th and New Year's Eve and only during certain hours, but of course people don't care and set them off all the dang time. Thankfully my dog does not hear nearly as well as he used to, so he no longer cowers in terror.

Zoomama:

I just did a home sleep study a few weeks ago.  It was a little difficult to get the belt with the monitor fastened correctly, but it helps if you have someone to help you.  I really did not want to do the sleep study in the lab, but agreed that if the in home study did not provide enough info, tha I would come to the lab.
Today I went for the follow up with the sleep specialist.  It seems that I had about 30 “disturbances “ per hour.  My oxygen levels did not go very low, but the dr told me how the cpap machine would work to help me.  I told him I wanted one ASAP.  It seems that there is a home health equipment agency that supplies the machine and shows you how to use it.  If I don’t hear from the agency tomorrow, I will call them.  I will drive out to their office (about a 30 minute drive) to get it..

I am hopeful that the machine will help me to sleep better.

Feel better, Zoomama!

We have, strangely. It hasn’t been like this before. Usually just on the 4th. It’s been going on for a couple weeks now. Also illegal here. I guess people are bored?  It’s super annoying and disruptive for the dogs and our sleep.

Not every night but a few times a week. It is fucking annoying. Bad enough there have been several drive by shootings when there hasn't been a shooting in years here apparently. I initially thought one of the shootings was another idiot setting off fireworks.

We have idiots doing fireworks now and then. It started before Memorial Day, tapered off a bit and has restarted for the 4th. 🙄 Fireworks are illegal here. This is the one reason I'm glad we don't have a dog.

I'm crabby today. Just sick of everything and discouraged. Plus I should call my Mom and that can go in a variety of ways. I need to start my book club book and I just can't seem to settle! I know that checking off tasks would make me feel better so I guess I'll get to it!

Fireworks are illegal here except for one twelve-hour period on 7/4. It’s one of the reasons we moved here from Maine, where a hideous creep of a governor made fireworks legal and our nervous dogs got to deal with them all.summer.long. Also New Year’s eve. Also, for some bizarre reason, Thanksgiving.

So I was sooo happy to move away from that crap only to discover that laws don’t mean squat when they’re not enforced and it’s Armegeddon here every 4th for a week before and after. New Year’s, ditto. Plus random, wall-shaking explosions during most summer weekend nights. Which nicely complements the target shooting practice, often involving semi-automatics...note this is always illegal here. I fucking HATE IT.

Nobody will be sleeping for the next ten days and I have tried every drug and device I can find on this poor dog and nothing works. He’s now 11 1/2 and I just keep hoping he’ll go deaf.

Rant over. Scarlett45, you okay?

When the first words used to describe a person is Holocaust Denier, that tells me he is a whack job.  Reading the first link actually made me laugh.  It's really all I can do when people try to make Anti-Fascists some sort of boogeyman that needs to be stopped, instead of, hear me out on this one, the right thing to do.  And, also out of all of the places in this country radical leftists might want to make a stand, have a demonstration, knock down a few statues, Gettysburg is not it.

I have been having struggles with my internet speed which is making working PAINFUL. I had my internet upgraded and my extender is on its way. I have a day off tomorrow and a therapy session, along with dinner at a friend's house (yay for humans).

Today I removed Mr. Norris from my Chewy.com profile, ordered his Christmas ornament, and donated the money I would've spent on cat supplies in July to the rescue where we adopted he and Scarlett in 2003. I am wondering if I should change my avatar since he and Scarlett are both dead now.

@zoomama FWIW, Hal Turner is a real whack-job with a history of spreading hoaxes, so I would take anything from him with a massive grain of salt.

Never heard of him either.  But the world we currently live in makes even rational people scared.

Last Saturday night, we were watching  "A Hard Days Night," on TCM.  When suddenly, a car stopped at the bottom of our driveway, and a group of young guys ran from the car into our driveway ....... to shoot a basketball into our hoop.  And then went up the street and did the same thing at the other hoops on the street!  5 seconds of terror and then we laughed.  Yet, now we are prepared if it is something worse.  Sad times.

I sometimes change my avatar just because I feel meh, or I'm in a mood..I think it should be up to everyone to do what they like with it, whenever they feel like it. Sometimes I think "oh, but everyone"knows me" by that picture..and then I'm like "F that! I'll change it if I wanna! They're not the boss of me!

That's my extremely mature mood today🙄

At- home fireworks are illegal in my Seattle suburban city, but the Indian reservation nearby sells tons.  All around me,  and extremely close, we hear lots of bomb like fireworks.  Super loud.

The overwhelmed PD tell us not to call and report it.  Heck, they can hear them, there's a small police office 4 blocks down the street.

At least my dog doesn't seem to mind at all.

I have a question about phase two of reopening.  We've been in phase two about a week and can now have people over.  Up to five people can gather, not counting my own household.  I'm only having my daughter over, so far.  It's wonderful seeing her again,  in person, after 3 months.

But are we supposed to wear masks around each other?  (We're not).  Are we supposed to be six feet apart. (We're not). I am having her and my husband, who's high risk, sitting at opposite ends of the table while we eat.  But that's all.

Walking my neighborhood last evening, a family was having a very big social gathering.  There were many cars parked all up and down the street and hordes of people partying in their backyard.

No matter where you live, the rules are so arbitrary and confusing.  I guess we have to decide what is best for our  unique situations.

Several months ago, I was scoffed at when I wished we were still in the dead of Winter when the worst hit.  Like in Italy and Spain.  Pretty easy to control social activity when it is cold outside!
