Boogieburns, I think just the opposite.  Chrissy mentioned in an interview that she was wearing prosthetics for filming.  Chrissy is actually thinner than her character Kate is. (Thinner being relative.)  I don't know if we'll see her weighing less on TIU, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Same idea though. We both can visualize this smaller version of Chrissy that makes the story less complicated (by complicated I mean they aren't worried about her fitting on a car, they never even think about her size most episodes!)

I'd love to see how she looks now. I do hope she continues to work, regardless. There aren't many like her in the industry but there are many people like her in the world

Really?  Justin usually doesn't do it for me, but the way he was looking at Alexandra in that last scene...um yeah, I'd take that.

The whole thing with the Valentines and the actors that played little Kevin and little Sophie....I bought all of it.  They were both adorable.

I also liked the acknowledgement of Cassidy and Kevin as friends.

I feel the chemistry and cuteness more on his side but she gives me nothing . I’ve felt that way since her first scene on the show . I know she’s a popular actress and people like her on Virgin River but I’d prefer a different adult actress as Sophie .

Kevin/Sophie doesn't feel earned to me.

I feel the exact opposite.  I think Kevin/Sophie has felt very earned...throughout the whole series.  I'm not even a particular fan of Sophie, but I'm 100% on board with how this was done.  They are the messy, broken, and extraordinarily complicated Jack/Rebecca. They weren't the Great American love story like his parents or even the solid long-standing marriage of Randall and Beth, but I could tell by the way that Kevin looked at Sophie that she was it for him.  We've seen their story, and they're both finally ready to be it for each other.

If anything, Kevin/Sophie and Randall/Beth make Kate/Philip stick out like a sore thumb.

Waste of an episode. Total filler and didn't need a whole episode.

Looking forward to Miguel's episode next week.

Yup. I feel the same. Kevin's love life has always been my least favorite plot thread in the series. I mean, I actually do like the character, I just was  like 'whatever' in terms of who he ended up with.

Very curious to see Miguel's story though. TIS, in my opinion, does such a great job with Rebecca's looks through the years, even as far as fashion and hair suitable for each year.

Kevin married Sophie once and dated her again when they were adults, and since then he dated Olivia, Sloane, Zoe, had children with and was engaged to Madison, and then proceeded to date a string of random women before bringing that vapid blonde woman to Nicky/Frannie's second birthday and then the State Farm woman to the engagement party. Kind of hard to believe that it's "always been Sophie" for Kevin.

Just because a person dates a lot of people doesn't mean they're emotionally connected to all of them.  Kevin dated a lot of people in pursuit of being loved like his parents loved each other and in pursuit of the way that Sophie loved him, and he loved her.  Their walk in the field, and their shopping trip showed (to me) that they've always had some sort of emotional connection---a connection that is complicated but has endured.  I buy this.  It's always been Sophie in the emotional sense.  Madison couldn't identify it as Sophie, but she also knew that she wasn't it.

Waste of episode, they could have just skipped to the Miguel episode.  Kevin doesn’t have chemistry with any of these people.  The only mildly entertaining part was Uncle Nicky running around trying to tell everybody his business.  I mean if a bellhop passed by was he going to tell him too?  The only good part of this episode was it didn’t focus on Kate and Phillip.

Ok I’ll admit this wasn’t my number one scenario for Kevin but I am glad it wasn’t just some rando after six seasons of being invested in his life (yes, Kevin is my big 3 fave). The valentine at the end was really well done. I’m not made of stone!

Woohoo after all this time we FINALLY get a Miguel episode next week!!  I’m super excited and also already crying.

Everyone cheering at the end made me laugh so hard. I don't think that was what the writers wanted, though...

Yeah, I didn't fully get it either - I know that they send the clothing of the losers to other countries, since they don't just destroy it I guess - so because of that, people who get those clothes think the Bills won a lot so they have a totally different view than the Americans?

I've actually been to remote areas of Peru and seen people wearing those clothes.  They don't know what football is, they don't know what Buffalo is, they have no idea why the team is named The Buffalo Bills.  They don't speak English and many of them are illiterate or nearly so.  So, while Randall thinks they wear those shirts and think the Bills won the Super Bowl, they really don't.  They actually don't know and don't care about any of it.  Their kids have tons of donated clothes with characters like Sponge Bob on them and have no idea, either.

I think Chrissy must've been referring to prosthetics to age her, not to bulk her up; unless she is also wearing them for public appearances.  She's made multiple appearances on awards shows and other entertainment events in the past few months and she looks the same size as she is on TV.  If she is wearing padding, it can't be much and what would be the point of that?

I have to question the likelihood of a dry cleaner letting a total stranger choose something off the "abandoned" rack and finding a garment not only the right size but also perfectly appropriate for the occasion. Factor in the garment being incredibly flattering to your hair color, skin tone, and body type and coordinating with your footwear...you'd better skip the party and head for a casino - you're beyond lucky.

I have even more skepticism about going into someone's hotel room, getting helped out of your dress, changing into your jammies, and then forgetting to take your dress when you leave.

No doubt Kevin tucked Arielle's poem into his wallet, right alongside that Valentine he's been carrying around for 32 years.

Why would Kevin and Sophie have their big Boy Gets Girl Back moment in the middle of a room full of people (other than so that the other guests can give them the applause that we viewers weren't able to)? Gotta think that IRL, if the conversation started getting that serious they'd have maybe gone somewhere with a bit more privacy.

Kevin c-blocked himself when he started Pearson-ing Off about the scent of Sophie's hair. Should have just stayed in the moment, but it all worked out thanks to Rebecca's advice, even if said advice came from a slightly addled place. Ain't love grand.

My GF said, and I quote, "Not to be cruel, but I don't think Kate would be comfortable in that car."  She's so diplomatic.

Clearly she wasn't wearing prosthetics or a fat suit during the bedroom scene in San Francisco.  That was all her and there was a lot of her.

There are too many posts to read but I have a sense that most people here didn't like the episode. I did. I like how they are wrapping up the stories and any flaws that might come up I can ignore because I still think the writing in this sow is above average of the mostly crappy stuff I see in other shows.

I liked Rebecca's unintended premonition about Kevin not being ready at 20, but that he would be when he is older.

But the best was little Kevin. The kid is adorable, his smile just lights up the screen.

Makes me also think the showrunner was also a little sick of watching his wife have love scenes with an extremely handsome male lead. That is why he probably stuck Madison with King Dork.

At least she is happy.

I am giggling at this, but having to hold it in because Mr. Dingochick is asleep.Thank you for the laff.

I haven’t seen this mentioned yet as I have a couple pages of the thread left to go, but anyone else get Luke horoscope vibes (Gilmore Girls) when Kevin pulled out the valentine?

Randall’s speech bugged me, but not as much as his toast in the previous ep. I am so tired of him going on and on…Beth is a saint for putting up with all his crap. And I used to be a huge Randall fan.

Why would the singer give away her lyric napkin? Doesn’t she use them for her songs?? So weird. How long was she writing that thing anyway if it was ready by the time he sat down?

And FFS, everybody clapped for Kevin and Sophie? Gah.

ETA I actually did like the episode.

Same.  We've seen Kevin looking at Sophie like she's the only woman in the world.  We've listed all the ways he's shown Sophie  he's matured, with his care for children and his mother, and with his control over his alcoholism.

What about Sophie?  How have we seen her mature?   Is her new best self the one who takes a job in Berlin when her marriage needs attention? What faults has she acknowledged and worked through? Is it enough that now she is willing to allow herself to be worshipped?

What woman has, after many long years, finally fallen into bed with the one man she truly loves, and after some passionate kisses and tearing off of clothes, suddenly put the brakes on the whole thing because he murmurs, "Ummm, I remember the way your hair smells?"

Sophie's not a woman in love she's a taskmaster.

I think that shows her growth.  In the past, she would have jumped in again and would have ignored the little warning voice in her head saying, "no, wait, something's not quite right."  This time, she knows better than to set aside her concerns just to be with him, and wants to make sure they are on the same page because it won't work otherwise.

I feel like we are supposed to think the exact opposite.  I’ve said it before but I don’t think Kate is supposed to be as heavy as Chrissy.  For example, and I know this is delicate, but that car.  There is no way Kate would be able to fit in that if she was supposed to be Chrissy’s size.  I also think if Kate was supposed to be as big as Chrissy it would have to be a part of literally everything she does and that wouldn’t be very entertaining to viewers, plus would probably be hurtful to the actress.

A woman who grew up with and married this same man, an addict X 2, who twice broke her heart. A man she left when they were 20 because he hadn't met a temptation he could resist, and who dumped her the second time -- after an urgent, poignant campaign to regain her trust -- because simultaneously, he'd also been getting hooked on pills.

Now she's ambivalent and skittish. Kevin murmured that her hair smelled the "way it used to." Sophie knew (1) it didn't and (2) that was a red flag, because for her -- for them -- the way it used to be is a dead end. A car crash on a dead end. She hadn't waited decades to fall in bed with Kevin; she'd first done that 30 years before. What she waited decades for was for Kevin to be able to be present, commit himself and follow through.

Ignorance is bliss, y'all. Also, Kate's like 210 pounds in my mind these days. (As in, I don't think about her weight at all, she doesn't seem to, so I'll mentally agree she just isn't stick thin. I know Chrissy is closer to 400 pounds. But Chrissy isn't Kate. It makes no sense except in my very weird brain!)

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has this thought!  No way Kate is supposed to be the same size as Chrissy. I think we are just supposed to suspend belief on that, which is fine because she’s acting and actors play people different than their real selves all the time.

But the thing is, they don't know each other in the present. There's no way that they can until they spend time together, go on dates, see her interact with his kids, have him stay with the same woman without being a confused mess for more than 5 minutes. They are BOTH holding onto the past. He's not the only one in love with the "old Sophie." She's in love with the old Kevin too. That's why I found her speech annoying. What do you want Kevin to go by? You guys have to give it a whirl in present day and then take it from there before you know if you want this to be "it."

I think people are expecting his story to end with a flash forward to his death (the fact that we haven't seen him in the flash forwards at the cabin combined with Rebecca making a point of appointing someone to make decisions if he is unable to leads to speculation that he is no longer with us when she dies).

Yes, I think that's what she's proposing. Kevin was never only a mess, and their love wasn't only a movie. Sophie knows that something in Kevin and their times together had substance as well as limerence, a substance that she's only felt with him, and in which he was who he wants to be. Call it soul or character.

That's what she's been carrying with her, along with the pain. That's what Rebecca was talking about. And now Sophie's glimpsing Kevin's character coming out in the daylight in his new relations with the extended family he's created -- his twins, Madison, Nicky and Cassidy -- as well as his much stronger relations with his mother, brother and step-father.

Meh, it’s her second wedding. And it’s not like they went on stage to declare their true love; they were off to the side sharing a kiss. It’s the rest of the guests who were obviously watching them (kind of creepy, really) and broke into applause, so the attention-stealing is on the guests not Kevin.

Yeah, that was beyond ridiculous.  Even if the dry cleaner does get rid of clothes that are never claimed, they're not going to let virtual strangers go into the back and take their pick.

More likely, being as he is rich and famous and undoubtedly paying all the bills for his sister's very expensive, very fancy, second wedding; all Kevin had to do was let the hotel concierge know that there was a guest who needed a dress for the festivities and any and all high end boutiques in the area would've sent a salesperson over to the hotel with an assortment of suitable options in Sophie's size.  Heck, they'd even provide a seamstress to do any alterations right then and there.

I thought of the concierge too! While traveling on business I've seen concierges perform such miraculous services, you'd swear they went to Hogwarts.  And that's just for ordinary hotel guests!  For a celebrity, the sky would be the limit.

You're right, and Sophie would have been hated for it. That degree of realism wasn't worth it. The show chose the opposite route from Princess/Pretty Woman montage: it had Sophie be resourceful and use the occasion to share, with Kevin and us, something about her past to which he had been oblivious.

(And, also real: the dry cleaner didn't need to recognize Kevin to sense that this was someone it was smart to be charmed by, just like many other patrons of the winery resort. Celebrity emits a force field that's both alluring and protective.)

I know there will be happy stuff too but I just feel like Miguel has had kind of a rough life, plus playing second banana to Jack for a lot of his relationship with Rebecca has got to be hard.  Especially since he is such a gem.  I am not spoiled so this isn’t a spoiler at all but I do also get the feeling he will die at the end.  Miguel, Rebecca, and Kevin are my faves on this show so I’m just prepared for some sad tears.  I hope some happy ones too!

I also brought up the concierge!  Like, Kevin is rich and famous, but even if he was just a normal these ritzy resorts go above and beyond to please their guests.  Some strings could have been pulled.

I watch RH of NYC and one of the former “housewives” had a boyfriend who was a high end dry cleaner (like I think he cleaned Princess Di’s dresses when they came to the States for display or something). Anyway, when things were left unclaimed he did bring them home for her to use.  I don’t know if she got to keep them or what, but I guess if they are past their pickup time anything’s fair game.

I've checked luggage for a three day trip.  It all depends on the purpose of the trip, and how much you need to carry.  For something like a destination wedding, you may end up packing even more than usual.

I always check a bag.  I don’t like travel size toiletries plus I want to take as little as possible in the plane with me.  I am also one of those weird people that likes to unpack fully rather than rummage through my suitcase for a couple days.  I did wonder where Sophie got an extra bra from but yeah, maybe that was included in “underwear”.

As an aside, if I’m going on vacation I always pack a light extra outfit in my carry on and a bathing suit.  That way if my luggage is lost/delayed I can still enjoy the pool or beach!

I don't think Kate is supposed to be much smaller than Chrissy. The first season was all about her size. They've mentioned it less often since then, but it still comes up.

She was initially rejected by the fertility clinic because of her size. And then the writers were pretty explicitly informed us that her pregnancy complications (which led to Jack's blindness) were caused by her obesity.

Just recently, Toby didn't think she'd be able to visit his boss's place because it was uphill.

I don't think these would be plot points for a 210-pound character.

The fertility clinic one might be.  When I was undergoing fertility treatments I knew two women who were told they needed to lose 50+ pounds before they would even be considered for treatment.  They were both much smaller than Kate/Chrissy.  I really side eyed that whole plot anyway, I don’t think any fertility clinic would have taken her on at her size.

I know it's a stupid question but what are the chances of Kate being that morbidly obese when her parents look like Jack and Rebecca and we know her grandparents aren't large either. The show did a great job with casting for the most part but I don't think Kevin and Kate look anything like each other or their parents whatsoever.

Dry cleaners do not have unlimited space for all the unclaimed clothes.  At some point, they will have to get rid of them--either throw them away, donate to thrift stores, take them home, or sell them.  Airlines have warehouse that sell the contents of unclaimed baggage, why wouldn't a dry cleaner do the same?

I think viewers are expect to cry for the Miguel episode because we are convinced he will die at the end of the episode. Another loose non-Pearson thread tied up nice and tight!

I think the viewers will also be crying, not only because Miguel is gone; but because that means no more sweet scenes of him being a caring, loving husband to Rebecca, no more scenes with Miguel as the voice of reason and sanity.  It also means that, from here on out, Kate will be in charge of Rebecca's care and we all know that that means scene after scene of Kate complaining about how hard it all is, how sad it makes her, how unfair it is to her while Randall tries to backseat drive the whole thing and Kevin stands at the ready with his wallet, ready to buy whatever Kate wants for Rebecca.

I think the storyline of adult kids being placed in charge of their mother's care and planning for her future could be a good one that would resonate with a lot of people who've done the same thing. However, on this show, they manage to ignore the great big elephant in most people's living rooms; how much getting good care for an elderly parent costs by making Kevin rich enough to afford stuff that is well out of reach for most of us.  A real story, with the 3 of them pooling money trying to pay for home care, or to find a better quality care facility; would be a lot more meaningful, I think.  Instead, Kate will make a decision, refuse to consider any alternatives, and stick out her hand for Kevin to lay the cash in it.

I know it's a stupid question but what are the chances of Kate being that morbidly obese when her parents look like Jack and Rebecca and we know her grandparents aren't large either. The show did a great job with casting but I don't think Kevin and Kate look anything like each other or their parents whatsoever.

Because Kate's morbid obesity is not genetically based but rather caused by a lifelong eating disorder, overeating (binge eating) as a response to her emotions.

As someone who periodically engages in such behavior due to clinical depression or anxiety, I recognize the signs and can relate.

Luckily, when I was in my 30s, I sought medical help and now respond quickly in a positive way when I start sliding down that hole.

It appears that Kate doesn't recognize she may need help.
