In my experience, the people that never want to discuss race are the racists. I would like to be wrong about Sutton because up until now, I really had no major issue with her. But her knee jerk and extreme reaction to a completely organic conversation about race makes me think I am spot on. If you aren't in the mood for whatever turn the conversation takes, excuse yourself to go do something. Who the hell is she to insist what may, or may not, be discussed?  Unless a whole lot was edited out and there is some other explanation, Sutton can F-off along with Kyle, Dorit, Lisa, Erika and probably Kathy.

I wasn't sure whether or not to go there because I also liked Sutton until now and hope we're wrong, but that's been my experience too. (Either never wanting to discuss race or ALWAYS bringing up race and saying it's others who need to shut up about it.) The people who hate for minorities to share their experiences, feel attacked hearing about them, and jump to well we all have stereotypes, yeah racists. I'm hoping there's more to it, because otherwise, I'm really disappointed in Sutton.

First Kameron Westcott let me down, now Sutton! I'm running out of Housewives I like.

I thought it might be Reno or perhaps an executive airport in Nevada. It was definitely not the Lake Tahoe airport.

Crystal vs Sutton...hmm.  Sutton did react oddly..but Crystal also came across as calculating.  I'll be interested to see how this plays out as the season continues

And I'm totally there for it!   Seriously Sutton, no one is attacking middle-aged white Southern women with concrete blocks on the street.   STFU and listen or if you can't be bothered to listen then excuse yourself from the conversation.

It was a good discussion but I laughed out loud when Kyle’s response was essentially, “I wasn’t making the comment to hurt you with racism, I meant to hurt you in another way because you came for my family.”

The thing is that most people who have not suffered discrimination do not understand that.  The thing is Garcelle knew it was not racial but I feel she needed the reaction from Kyle for Kyle to get it.  The truth is Kyle is an asshole not a bigoted I think she got it.

Listen, I'm a Texas girl born and raised.  I want US to be represented in a better way.  We're not all yahoos.  I was just kinda hoping Sutton could carry that water. NO!

Showed her dumbass, couldn't shut up, couldn't LISTEN, couldn't LEARN.

For all Kyle's bullshit, I think she actually LEARNED from Garcelle in their convo.  Think she still would have done it; just used another excuse... But she acted like she underSTOOD.

So... there's that.

I thought Kyle behaved very well during that conversation - but she even admitted she didn't need another excuse - "if we had been getting along I wouldn't have said it!"  😄

That being said - Garcelle had bid at her auction, and in fact hadn't paid her bill.  And "they had an old address" doesn't work as an excuse; when you buy something at a charity auction they don't try to guess your contact information based on where they think you might live; you give it.  And in this day and age it's email and phone number, not an address.  I'm not "stereotyping" her, it's just what happened.  And I can see Kyle throwing the nonpayment in the face of any woman she was displeased with, which is why I think she was very gracious in response to being called a racist on tv.

Kyle’s new nose is... not good.  However, it suits her.  It makes her look kinda mean, and a mean girl is what she truly is on the inside.

It hurt my soul to see all that salmon burned and wasted.

I like Crystal and Kathy so far.  Kathy is super weird and I see a lot of Kim in her - the fun quirky ‘I love turtles’ Kim, not the toxic mean side.

They had a "strained" relationship at the time? Granted, I may have missed that, I only half watch these days, but I thought they barely met each other? It usually takes these women a tiny bit longer to hate each other. Me thinks she got some major blow back. On the positive side, I was only here to see Erika crash and burn, but now  I am interested in how this plays out. Two points of interest is amazing. Last year the whole season was horrible.

I'm right there with you! I've got another episode in me and then I'm done. I'm not a fan of Rinna but I'm already sick of Garcelle coming at her to educate her/question her/doubt her. What more do you want the woman to do? She apologized, she said she would try to be better, she acknowledged she was an asshole. But for some reason, Garcelle (with her admitted gift of gab) couldn't get a word in so now she's back to complain some more.

And I'm sorry but promising a charity money and then not delivering on your promise is not a race thing, it's an asshole thing. And Kyle should call out anybody who is also on this show who did that. I'll believe it was more sinister when we find out Dorit, or Lisa also promised money and didn't pay but only G was called out. Till then, Garcelle should take a page from Rinna's book and apologize and shut up about it. She's embarrassing herself bringing it up so much after the fact.

Her attempt to be more relevant is boring me. I thought last season she was a total bore so I'm not sure how/why Bravo thought when cleaning house she was one to keep. Although shes better than Brandi so there's that.

Right? It kind of feels like their relationship became strained because of this incident. Because otherwise, they didn't seem to interact enough in two episodes to have a "strained relationship."

Also WRT Garcelle and Kyle - I am reposting something I posted yesterday with permission from @Door County Cherry.

Quote

I think teachable moments - even from crappy reality shows based on rich women dressing up and going to dinner in different locales - are valuable. I found the moment between Garcelle and Kyle quite refreshing and a model, even a very small one, for how people of different backgrounds can discuss difficult issues without rancor or defensiveness. Clearly YMMV but teachable moments come in all forms. That's why they're called teachable moments.

Agree, but what did she really "cook" except very burned salmon?  Mostly, she just barked orders at the help (can I say that?) and rushed around a lot, looking like she was doing something, but in reality she didn't cook squat.  I was actually surprised she went ahead and served that burned mess that nobody ate.

I don't know that Sutton's not nasty or a Karen.  We barely saw her last season and anyone would look nice next to Rinna who was sucking up all the scenery.

The way she jumped in to cut Crystal off and announce she didn't want to hear any stories about racial stereotypes because she's been a "victim" too seemed way too natural for her.   The Beverly Hills bubble has been broken with the addition of Garcelle and Crystal and I could not be happier.  About time.

It's going to take more than an after the fact post on Instagram to convince me.

I agree.  Many people were pro-Sutton, based on her not being as horrible as the others last year (same with Dorit).  But, we really don't know that much about who she is.  Hopefully, she learned a valuable lesson from this.  Goodness knows, we need some positive people to root for on this show!

Maybe Sutton didn't want to have to defend herself when there was no reason to have to, at that moment they were chatting about a different situation the Crystal says she has been stereotyped, etc...Sutton has not offended her in anyway up to that point then it seemed that Crystal wanted an apology from Sutton for things that Crystal had to deal with...it was misplaced anger toward Sutton and she tried to shut it down.

I have had my share of bias, nasty comments, and exclusion but I am not picking a fight or demand that someone that had nothing to do with it apologize.

The racial issues are real but I want to see the real estate porn, the jewelry, clothes, cars, all the trappings that I don't deal with on a daily basis, the news is full of horrific things, can't we all have just one nice thing without having to deal with real reality?

But Sutton had no reason to bring up the points she did. Crystal was mentioning her own experiences of being stereotyped and Sutton jumped it and tried to shut it down, even though Crystal wasn’t saying anything about Sutton.

Exactly! Nobody was even addressing her period!  Crystal was speaking directly to Kyle and saying, Oh, I've felt that before, I've felt how Garcelle felt in that situation.  Here's how.  And Kyle was listening.

Then Sutton jumped in and started shrieking like a banshee!  It took a long time for Crystal to even realize WTF Sutton was doing because nobody was addressing her and it had nothing to do with her.

Kathy's lisp is common for people who wear full dentures. Botox and fillers make it more prominent. Kyle might be laughing at Kathy's big sister teasing now, but I suspect there will come a point when she gets butthurt.

Yeah Rinna, you be you...a big, stinking pile of dung.

Erika is such a poser. If "worked for the mob" means sucked a made guys dick, then maybe I believe it.

Am I surprised that Sutton isn't woke? As shocked as I was that the sun rose this morning.

Dorito calling all the ladies "baaaby" in her best PK mimic is annoying and condescending.

So far, the most interesting thing about Crystal is her husband's career.  It's too early to tell what dynamic she'll bring to the group.

I don't know if it will be a good season, but it can't be worse than last year....unless brandi drops by to tell everyone she hooked up with one of the ladies.

The convo between Garcelle and Rinna was a big wtf for me with Rinna saying she couldn’t promise she wouldn’t use anything against her or something to that effect. I wouldn’t share a thing with that backstabber and I wouldn’t develop a relationship with someone that said basically, you can’t trust me. I’m sure Garcell has taken note.

The only two lies and a truth answer that surprised me was Crystals! I’m curious to hear more of her backstory. Her clothing and demeanor would be great on NYC.

I have had my share of bias, nasty comments, and exclusion but I am not picking a fight or demand that someone that had nothing to do with it apologize.

Based on such different posts about the conversation, and number of likes on each one, I was stumped how it seems the board is 50/50. It's like we watched two totally different episodes. I replayed the convo. They both interrupt each other a bit, but this is what I heard.

Crystal: "From a perspective of someone who's not white, when it hits you from stereotypes, it can be so painful that you can't see anything else. I've had friends who've said things to me, Asian comments, stuff like that. Do Garcelle and I share the same exact ones? No."

Sutton: "No, there are stereo . . . I am sorry, I am not gonna do this. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not doing this. I'm gonna tell you right now!"

Crystal: "You're not doing what??"

Sutton: "I am not talking about racial stereotypes when I am . . ."

Crystal: "Well it's easy for you not to."

Sutton: "Um, see, this is why."

Crystal: "I'm sorry, that's not true, not true. You probably have a lot. Everyone does."

Sutton: "Why? Because what? I'm a southern white girl?

Do you want to talk about when I see dumbass rednecks on the TV?"

Crystal "Yes, I wanna know about that, yes."

Sutton: "and that's supposed to be me? I also have a stereotype, but I don't want to bring it up. We are educated."

Crystal: "That's insane"

Sutton: "We are traveled. It is not insane. It's called 2021."

Crystal: "Are you one of those people that don't see color? Tell me you're that girl. I don't see color?"

Sutton: "Are you serious with me right now?"

Crystal: "Is that what you're saying? Are you that girl? I don't see color?"

I don't think there's any disputing Sutton is the one who raised her voice and got upset first, so I included the whole conversation if anyone was referring to another part. I'm not trying to be snarky, but I genuinely don't see how Crystal picked a fight just sharing that racial stereotyping among friends can be painful. She didn't ask for an apology from anyone either. After dealing with the likes of Rinna and Erika, how did three softspoken sentences from Crystal that had nothing to do with Sutton trigger her? Her reaction was ridiculous and tone deaf.

Exactly. It's too soon for me to have much of an opinion on Crystal, and Sutton was actually a favorite of mine last season. I'm not writing her off just yet, but I still think she was totally  the one who got worked up and went all "I'm not doing this! I'm not doing this!" when all Crystal did was share that she's had issues with her friends regarding race. It was nothing against Sutton, and had zero to do with Sutton.

Yes. If every woman could place themselves in the shoes of another race, there would be no such thing as a racist woman.

Yup. Who defends themselves before they're accused? And who shuts down an Asian woman discussing the different experiences of people of color when there's been all this racial unrest and 150% increase in Asian hate crimes? Really, Sutton? It is indeed 2021, and looks like someone hasn't watched any news in quite awhile.

Totally. There would have to be some major editing tricks for Sutton's reaction to make any sort of sense. I'm really curious how this plays out.

To me, that conversation did highlight some of Sutton's insecurities. Yes, Americans from the south do get pegged and stereotyped, and not in a good way. I wouldn't be surprised if Sutton had to deal with people stereotyping her that way, given that she now lives in BH, and probably has to deal with even her friends probably ribbing her about where she is from.

Where Sutton falters is not realizing that for every negative stereotype about white southern people, there are plenty of positive depictions of them to counter that, and plenty of positive depictions of white people in entertainment and the media in general to counter that. Not so much for Black and Asian people in the US. And it's not like the stereotypes about southern white people could end up getting them killed...

I don't believe Sutton is racist per se, at this point I would probably file her under ignorant more than anything else.

I could definitely see that. I'm sure many people in BH compliment Sutton on having a cute accent, being kind, well-mannered and showing southern hospitality. But I know there are going to be snobs. Crystal even immediately apologized after she said "it's easy for you not to." She didn't dispute Sutton being stereotyped and said she'd like to hear her experiences, but Sutton wasn't having it.

I particularly agree with the bolded.
