My cousin used to work at a high-end department store over 20 years ago.

Even back then, she said the customers (at least 90% of which were women) would bring back a pricey garment to return.

She said it was so gross because you could see pit stains, sometimes spilled drink or food stains, and would sometimes even have aroma d'BO emanating from it.

Because these customers had money (which makes it even more ironic that they were returning the clothing in the first place), to keep their business the sales associates were instructed to accept the return and credit their account without argument.  The returned items weren't put back on the rack, so I'm assuming they were a write-off for the store.

I'm pretty sure that's same type of privilege Sonja gets when she pulls her wear-and-return fuckery.  The stores don't want to offend her and lose her business, so they let her pull this shit on the chance that she may keep a few of the expensive garments.

I don't understand why she doesn't use something like Rent The Runway. I've used them a few times and always been happy. https://www.renttherunway.com/

Luann may have had work done.

Sonja has the townhouse all refreshed. It used to be all old and dark.

I don’t know what Luann had done but she doesn’t look good to me, especially in the THs. She looks hard.

Actually, none of them look good this season. Sonja is an absolute mess. I really wonder if she has a mental illness or is medicated. She seems off.

I didn’t like Leah last season and don’t like her this one either.

Ramona looks a bit rough.

Eboni is thirsty. Her bragging reminds me of Wendy on Potomac. That is all.

I want to know Coco’s regimen. I know smaller dogs live longer, but that girl is 17 and has quite a lot of pep in her step! Mr. Witter (who occasionally pops in to watch) looked up at the tv and said: “I don’t know how Ramona has managed to keep a dog alive for 17 years.”

Go Coco!!! ❤️

Did Ramona get bigger implants or did I just forget how bad they looked on her?

Because she didn’t remember how she got home a couple times.  Because she’s “allergic” to alcohol.  Sure Lu.  I must be “allergic” to tequila.

Luann said she had had several blackouts during the summer at Sag Harbor and couldn’t remember how she got home.  That may be enough to keep her off the sauce.  Maybe.

I think that it's so interesting that so much care and respect is paid to Judaism whether we are Jewish or not but a Black woman just being herself is shoving race down people's throats, apparently.  Wearing a sweatshirt is not talking about race.

I think I missed this discussion.  I hope we can kindly disagree.  I think we can agree Leah will never be Orthodox.

Wearing a sweatshirt on RHONYC with racial overtones is talking about race.  It just is.  Eboni made the point she wanted to make.  Good for her.

Why?  It's Real Housewives of New York.  New York is enormous and it should be about anyone based there.

Even if it was about my city where I'm from, I would be so annoyed if it was just about women in the richest area of the city, and my city is probably like 1/10th the size of NY.

I keep thinking about that too.  I am wondering if people could comment whether Charlotte's storyline was accurate and respectful or not.

Not to mention that the Upper East Side is the most boring section of the city. I like a little variety.

Leah wearing modest clothes is not going to happen.   I see some Orthodox families around the city and in 99 degree weather the mom has a wig on and long sleeves and a long skirt.  The children have long sleeves and pants/skirts.  Did Leah consult her daughter about this?  She would be the type to ignore traditions of no phones at certain times or driving/cabs, etc.  She sounded like a fool when she talked about it.  No genuine reason, just another way to get attention.

I don't care where they live in the city as long as they have huge apartments and a big clothing wardrobe and a gorgeous summer home.   That's what I want to see.  UES is no longer the wealthiest area of the city; it has long since lost that status to areas downtown.   But if someone is from Soho or Tribeca I want to see edgy streetwear fashion, not the mish mash that Leah puts together, and huge lofts, etc.   When Eboni mentioned Harlem I thought oh great, she's bought one of those gorgeous brownstones.  But no, its a one bedroom in I suspect a typical new construction high rise.  And Leah in the Financial District, no interest to me.  Real estate porn is half the show.

I thought last season that for all of the outrageous persona that Leah is trying to present, she mostly doesn't know who she is. And that was reinforced with this episode. Converting to Judaism strikes me as Leah trying to find some sense of purpose, which isn't a bad thing. But if you're going to do it, you have to be all in and I don't have a sense that she is.

I like Eboni so far and found her comments on social justice and fighting for racial equality appropriate.

Sonja remains ridiculous. Lu and Ramona are at least entertaining and for all that sometimes Lu's elitism is grating, I appreciate the fact that she always seem to be trying to a better version of herself. She often fails, but I can't help but rooting for her.

This sounds like a description of Haredi Judaism, which is defined as “ultra, ultra Orthodox” (though the Haredim reject this definition, it’s the best one I can come up with that gets the point across).

Modern Orthodox Jews generally look like everyone else, except the husband will probably wear a kippe.  Ivanka is an Orthodox Jew.

Not that this is any kind of defense of Leah’s “conversion,” which didn’t seem authentic at all, but she can technically become Orthodox without looking like she stepped off the set of Shtisel.  What is more concerning to me is that her sister asked her which rabbi she is working with, and Leah replied “orthodox.”  That’s not the name of a rabbi, which leads me to believe she doesn’t have one or she forgot his name, because he’s not important.

If anyone remembers that terrible show VanderPump Rules, it is just like the times that Andy would ask Stassi’s boyfriend, Beau, “what do you do for a living?”  And each time he’d reply “I’m in commercial casting.”  That’s not a job, that’s an industry!  Same with Leah—“orthodox” is not the name of a rabbi, it’s a branch of Judaism!  Both people were highly suspect to me in their truth-telling to bullshit ratio.

And just in anticipation of anyone saying maybe Leah didn’t want to say the rabbi’s name on film...this show has a rich history of bleeping out names.  All of season four, Jill and Ramona were arguing about someone whose name was bleeped, and it drove me crazy!  So, they can bleep once for Leah, or if she was afraid it wouldn’t be bleeped, she could tell Alien Eyes that she’d text her the name, but, regardless, “orthodox” isn’t an appropriate response, unless she was working with good old Rabbi Orthodox, of Lower Manhattan!  We all know about him, right?  😁

That's also how I feel.  I'm not religious myself but I recognize what it means to those who are true believers and followers of any particular faith.  I think what she's saying  makes a mockery of that.

It reminds me of a Ron Swanson scene in Parks and Recreation when he said about another character,  "”He’s a tourist. He vacations in people’s lives, takes pictures, puts them in his scrapbook and moves on. All he’s interested in are stories. Basically, Leslie, he’s selfish.”

can a Jewish person in NYC or someone who's across this, explain how she can possibly convert orthodox... is this a flat out lie? Im just curious how a Rabbi would approach a request from her like this, especially if she seems to want a community to belong to rather than to actually follow a faith.

I am an atheist but I respect people's religion just as I hope they respect my right not to believe. That being said, I find Leah to be so ignorant and disrespectful in her use of this as a storyline. It is apparent that she did no research before jumping into this. If she thinks she is being cute or funny she is dead wrong.

I didnt expect Leah to join the Hasidic Jewish Community and move to Brooklyn. I would think she would speak with a Rabbi about converting to a secular Jewish synagogue.    If it was a good fit then she could move on to following a more stringent form of the religion.

Most Orthodox Jewish women dress in a modest modern way but they do not dress like the Real Housewives,  especially Leah. She would definitely have to throw away half her wardrobe.   And I wouldn’t consider Ivanka a role model for the Orthodox Jewish community.

I think Leah usually bites off more than she can chew and in this case she has again.  If she is all in with becoming an Orthodox Jew she will have to say good bye to the show, 90% of Orthodox Jews do not even own a TV much less star in a some times raunchy reality show.  She could have gotten her feet wet with going to a Chabad in her neighborhood, maybe a Reformed shabbat service a couple times a month, taking a course at a Hillel, anything but the extreme.

What she does not understand is the Orthodoxy is very oppressive to women and she will have a problem with that.  Any questions she has about anything, the rabbi will tell her what she should do or it will be in the Talmud, even Modern Orthodox Jews have rules, rites, laws to live by.   Does she realize she will have to keep a kosher home, should not be in the company of single men unaccompanied, not grind up on other women, not have sex unless it it is in the confines of marriage, this will be a real blow to her image and libido.  I guess she will miss out on the Friday night parties, Saturday daytime festivities, wait until after sundown till she can use her phone, electricity...Rabbi's expect you to actually walk the walk, talk the talk of conversion.

Sorry for the vitriol, I don't like Leah at all, can you tell?

Exactly. Leah is a moron. For starters- she’s using a phone & working (filming) during Yom Kippur (supposedly).

No, she’s not at all serious about a conversion. It’s a bullshit storyline. But, she’s full of shit anyway, so it’s fitting.

It's crazy to me, too.  I guess the stores figure if it's a customer who spends a great deal of money throughout the year, then taking a hit on a handful of returned unsalable garments is worth keeping their business.

Large upscale department store chains can probably afford to take such hits, but I sincerely hope smaller boutiques refuse these types of returns as most of them likely couldn't absorb those types of losses.

That would work well if, when caught with her tags hanging out, Sonja would mention the name of the boutique and designer/brand, and how much she loves that store and that article of clothing, it's so comfortable and versatile, the salespeople are so friendly, etc,...Which, if Sonja were smart, she'd do, if for no other reason, to keep her return privileges.

In a retail management training (regional drug store chain), one of the speakers told us the story of when he was promoted from store manager to district manager. He told the incoming manager about a lady that would, predictably, return an empty can of store brand bug spray every summer, and demand a new one. He said the money that woman spent in the store on prescriptions and other products more than made up for that $2 can of bug spray, and it was worth her loyalty.

Now, a can of generic bug spray is A LOT cheaper than clothing, and unless she's also purchasing her Sharpies at the same store, I'm not sure what's in it for them. I know if I had sold something to her and had her return it a few days later, then saw her wearing it, with tags attached, on tv KNOWING she had returned it, I'd institute a stricter return policy, or try to get a mention or SOMETHING for my troubles.

My initial thoughts about Eboni:

(1)  I question the judgment of anyone who decides to "bet on themselves" and ignore their bills in the meantime.

(2)  I've never met an attorney who, when asked what kind of law they practice, replies, "Everything."  At the risk of sounding elitist, great lawyers don't do "everything" -- they end up specializing, so if I met an attorney that said they do everything, I'd be less than impressed (I'd be thinking "jack of all trades, master of none").  ///rant over

I read a story about her in Vanity Fair that said she did a short stint in corporate law and then another in a public defenders office.  It doesn't mention how long so it might be just a few years.   But from there she headed to NYC and hasn't practiced since, instead getting into broadcasting as a "legal/political expert"  first at Fox and then at something called Revolt TV.  She's also written a book:  Pretty Powerful: Appearance, Substance, and Success.

I think by men, they mean in the RHONJ sense where the men are tied to each of the women (husbands mostly, with the random ex and current BF). This way you have the supporting cast of men without the women competing for them.

Other shows like RHOA and RHOD also have men, but they don't add to the fun the way the RHONJ men do, so be careful what you wish for.

So far I like Ebony.  I laughed when she said she went to the bank for a mortgage and her friend replied “and the bank had some news for you?”.  Heh. Banks are full of bad news.

I thought it was funny that tptb are obviously not even pretending this is a show about housewives anymore.  Not only are the current cast mates not housewives (or even wives) but even the new cast members aren’t housewives.

My dislike for Leah was back within about five seconds of watching the show when she threw her dirty ass mask on the table at the gym.  What a pig.

I really don’t care what these women (or anyone else for that matter) think about masks as long as they still wear them.

Sonja looks awful.  That brunch food just looked like stuff you pick up prepared at the supermarket and they just took the plastic top off the platters. Nothing to write home about. Ramona looks great and I really liked her wavy hair at Sonja’s party. Luan may be a tiny touch too thin but as usual, the Countess looks good.

What I found odd about this episode is that they're "introducing" Eboni to the cast at Sonja's brunch. Towards the end, when they're sitting inside, they played flashbacks to events the prior week, when everyone was present and fighting. So why are they acting like this is the first time the women have all met Eboni?

I don't think anyone enjoys wearing a mask but when you have a platform like they do, bitching about something something that is a public health necessity right now, and one where they could actually have a positive influence over those who don't wear them (ie: they could make masks cooler or fashionable or more acceptable among those who don't want to wear them)...That is unforgivable IMO. You have to wear a seat belt to protect yourself in a car, well you now how to wear a mask to protect others and yourself. Bitching about it just comes across as they're above it, they're too good to wear one, etc. Oh wait! They DO think that, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised!

I hear you, but I’m coming off of RHOOC (where Kelly basically called Covid a hoax and said there’s no evidence masks are effective) and RHONJ (where the women flounced from event to event unmasked like a pandemic wasn’t even happening) so a little carping about mask-wearing by people who actually still were wearing masks seems innocuous by comparison.

I will agree with you about Lu...she could care less about anybody who isn't rich and famous. She is possibly the most entitled, privileged white woman on this franchise.

And she’s never felt guilty about being privileged.

I'm witholding my opinion on Eboni - not quite sure how I feel about her just yet.  In some ways, she reminds me of the lawyer/professor from Real Housewives of Potomac (I forget her name) - kind of a lawyer only on paper - someone who got her law degree just to become a legal correspondent on TV news programs, but not to actually practice law.  Time will tell whether I like her not.

Wendy Osefo from RHOP doesn’t have a law degree. She has a B.A. in political science, a M.A. in government, M.Sc. and PhD in public affairs.

Sounds like her husband should be the one with a PhD in public affairs.

I’ll see myself out….

Wait . . . Wendy has four degrees?? You'd never know! She keeps that so quiet!! 🤣

Meanwhile, back in New York . . . . (I've got nothing, I just wanted to loop it back to the NY show). 😀
