Washington set it as the 4th Thursday of November, same as Lincoln.

Actually, it was the last Thursday of November which is sometimes the same thing. It was changed to the 4th Thursday under FDR.

Monday's TS that I got were fleet, Clyde, yoga, Alaska, bail, Soul Man. Dr Toothbrush was in a tizzy about this being a TS since "The Blues Brothers" is his favorite non-Star Wars/non-Indiana Jones movie.

ZZ Ben Top spending much of the first round in the red is payback for re-writing "The Rainbow Connection", which is perfection as-is.

My FJ thought process was "mourning, no, gratitude. Day of gratitude, duh Toothbrush, Thanksgiving"

didn't get FJ.  That was one of those hit your head when they reveal the answer moments. I said prayer.  But, two of the contestants were totally off going in the same line of thought as me, so I don't feel too bad.

So did I.  I did think of Thanksgiving, but thought it was more recent.  Oh well.

I got Clyde and Soul Man.  I also said Alaska Airlines correctly.

And I got the entire category of the American Revolution correct.

I didn't get Clyde, but did get the rest.

I was singing it during the commercial break.  I really have to force myself to not sing it in order to recite it, and what's the fun in that? lol

Yes! My mother was born in 1923 and as a child her 11/29 birthday was sometimes Thanksgiving. She used to recall when it changed and that they took "Thanksgiving away from her".

My birthday is November 26th.  When I was a kid I hated it when my bday was on Thanksgiving.  Now, I don't much care one way or the other.

FJ = national day of mourning = Memorial Day. Easy. No need to think further.

That's where my mind was going  too but I couldn't come up with anything definite.  I did move on to "celebration" but that's not quite the same as Thanksgiving. DH says they wouldn't have given it to me😄

I should have got Thanksgiving since ours in next Monday.

I think the former since the date of Easter changes but your birthday remains the same.

Except I don't think yours was started by George Washington. But what do I know. (Answer: Not much, obviously.)

Happy early Canadian Thanksgiving! Cross the border next month if you are still hungry for turkey.

This is true. Or by Abe Lincoln either.

I live fairly near the border and the churches in the area often put on Thanksgiving dinners for American Thanksgiving.  They are quite popular with lots of Americans coming over, plus locals too who didn't get enough turkey in October.

I’m getting tired of these lame games. I’m not opposed to a runaway game, but only when everyone does well. This trend of players being in the red or only at a couple of thousand in the second round...what’s happening?

I thought FJ was Wyatt Earp.  I was wrong.

I got viola, Newport News cyle and Baby Grand Rapids.  I think there was one more I might have gotten but for the jumping around.  I really wish they wouldn't do that with weird categories.

So excited! It is my favourite holiday.

Still didn't get FJ though. Like many others, I came up with 'mourning'.

I would have liked it if they'd done the Ra, Ra, Sis, Boom, Ba category from top to bottom as it was meant to be done.

The champ's casino bus/buffet coupon story cracked me up, and I really liked the movie/song title category.

TS I got include Strange Brew, Newport News cycle, and Steve Kroft (yo, dude on the end, Andy Rooney's been dead since 2011, not to mention that Kroft and Rooney look nothing alike).  I doubt they would have given me credit for saying photographer when the correct response was cinematographer, though.

But I couldn't come up with Bill Hickok in time.  I got stuck in Tombstone instead of Deadwood (I know -- not even close to the same part of the country!), and ended up with Doc Holliday.  Oops!

Good gods, another “Women [Profession]” category; will it ever stop?

Things were going well in the first round, with only two TS, and while there weren’t all that many more than that in DJ, a couple of those were surprising.  Support most of all, given the two straightforward definitions.  Viola and Newport News just a bit.  That no one knew Steve Kroft by sight or bit of trivia, okay, but thinking he was Andy Rooney was unexpected.

The only TS I got was viola. But I did get FJ.

Is anyone really hungry for turkey? We finally switched to chicken - much tastier and doesn't take as much time. Then again, we're not a normal family when it comes to Thanksgiving.

I agree about the Ra Ra Sis boom Ba category. Easy enough for them - they can see the board and know the location, but it only shows briefly for us. Boo hiss.

I got Doc Holliday too. Right neighborhood, wrong address. (neighborhood as in Wild West icons)

My generation was like that with the word encyclopedia. On the original Mickey Mouse Club they had a segment on looking things up and Jiminy Cricket would sing, "See the encyclopedia...E.N.C.Y.C.L.O.P.E.D.I.A."  When that word came up in a spelling test, you could hear the kids in the class all quietly singing to themselves...

Merv Griffin used to have a thing where he'd go out into the audience and ask random people to recite the Star Spangled Banner - not sing it, RECITE it like the poem it was written as.  It was really funny to watch people struggling with not singing.

I missed last night's show - I hate being on the condo board, but nobody else will volunteer to take my place.

I was saying "It's Steve, Steve, not Kraft but something like that".  Pretty sure they wouldn't have taken that.

I did get Morse code.  Not sure whether the contestant really didn't know that telegraphs used Morse code, or just thought they wanted something more specific.

I am and will be, when all the shows, tv and radio, are talking about the green bean casseroles and how to best cook turkey, then what to do with turkey afterward. I have no family so I will try to find a couple legs sold individually after the day so I can sort of have my own holiday meal. I always got the leg when I was a kid, it was a family tradition ... for me, anyway.

I ended missing FJ again. Doc Holliday was my first thought, but I knew he died in a hospice in Colorado. So I thought Wyatt Earp (who was born not far from me ... Wyatt Earp and Ronald Reagan, go figure), but once his wife OD'd and he took off with the show girl, I didn't think it was him either. But couldn't come up with any other name. I've never read much about Hickok, but I know he was holding the Dead Man's Hand (two aces, two eights) when he was shot and killed

I miss being able to watch the show. Reading here, some of the categories and TSs would have been good ones for me. I could use feeling smart for a few minutes.

I thought that was a horribly written clue.  From J-Archive: "New evidence suggests that the QWERTY keyboard design may have sprung from telegraph operators translating this."

Like the contestant, I assumed the "this" the operators were "translating" was a specific word.

That's what I thought, too.  So, it was another hit my head moment when the answer was revealed, because, duh, what else did telegraph operators translate.

The champ from a couple days ago said she took up taxidermy and stuffed a mouse and a butterfly. How does one taxidermy a butterfly?

I couldn't look at Ben with his beard. He could almost knit it into clothes. Nasty. He has a wife, too. Amazing.

Alex thanked Mental Floss for providing that category when only two clues were revealed. That would have been my first selection category.

Thanksgiving. Add me to those who love turkey, baked with crispy skin.

I love turkey. We fry a couple of breasts (no one in my family likes the dark meat) and my dad uses the left over meat & the carcasses to make turkey & andouille gumbo. I like the gumbo better than the Thanksgiving meal itself.

Only two ts's for us: I got Strange Brew and Mr.Trey got Morse code.  Instaget FJ - the reference to cards made it pretty obvious to me.

We are pretty fond of turkey but last Christmas we got such a big turkey and had so much leftovers that even we got sick of it.

I had to read the archive, and I'm a little bummed I won't get to see Alex calmly read the shouted movie lines.

I'm shocked Sydney was a TS; how did no one even guess that?!

Woke was pretty surprising, too.

The Member of the Wedding and mausoleum, I would have thought someone would get, too, but it's those first two that really surprised me.

I could not for the life of me remember Jerry Maguire.  I was sitting here mentally muttering "Cameron Crowe movie, Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr., that 'Did you know the human head weighs eight pounds?' kid, 'You had me at hello' -- goddammit, what is the name of that film?!" and it just would not come to me.

Wow, so many TS in the first round!  At least it picked up some in the second round, but there is no excuse for missing the Pathfinder DD in a Mars category.  I got that as well as Gallipoli (thanks to the movie back in the day), Tasman, woke, A-frame (how was that a TS????), mausoleum, and Hartford.

I also got FJ.  I think I wore out my copy of "Graceland" -- vinyl and cassette!

As did I, it's my favorite album of all times. I still love it, never get tired of it. (I have diamonds on the soles of my shoes!) FJ was faster than an instaget for me, I didn't have to finish reading the clue.

Side note: Some years ago, I was driving all night from northern Illinois to Little Rock, Arkansas for a dog show, playing my Graceland CD non stop. I was leaving Missouri, entering Arkansas around 3 a.m. when it struck me ... I'm going to Graceland. I pulled into a rest stop and spent the rest of the night, then drove across the Mississippi into Memphis early the next morning. I was the first person in the Graceland parking lot, did the entire tour, then drove on to Little Rock later that morning.

Some things I will never forget.

I also got Gallipoli thanks to the movie--back when Mel Gibson was synonymous with male beauty and not nasty behavior--plus Tasman, mausoleum, FJ, and a few others I didn't bother to write down. I had no idea "woke" had a negative connotation. As for the A-frame, my first thought was teepee. Then I went "duh!" when the answer was revealed.

In a gazillion years of Alex’s bad accents I don’t even know where to start with his New Zealand accent, it was so bad it made me briefly think I must have misread the category.

FJ was an IG.

It was UrbanDictionary.com. Woke in most instances now has morphed to be used in a pejorative manner to mock because most people who describe themselves that way demonstrate that they are not.

I'm embarrassed that I missed FJ - I, too, have never tired of listening to Graceland. But I blurted out Billy Joel.

I said chalet first than switched to A frame.  Other ts's were Gallipoli and Tasman. Oddly enough, son and I were just discussing the Turks as our enemies in WWI.  Actually, not so oddly when you consider current news.

I really had to think for FJ and came up with Paul Simon at the last second.  I hadn't been aware that there was any controversy over the album.
