It's a real insight into pre-Internet advertising that the American Express commercial was all, "To sign up, find an application [somewhere] and fill it out." Perhaps the first filter for AMEX when evaluating membership (which has its privileges) was that you were the type of person with the gumption and wherewithal to track down an application?

I listened to last week and this week back to back and when I heard the Hello Fresh ad I was all, "What kind of meal service whores is the Cole/Ariano household?" So I was glad (? relieved?) to get Dave's bit of editorial update at the end of the ad.

That's because Stephen King's darkest secret is that he's at his best when he leaves the supernatural stuff (mostly) out of it! I know that's not how his "real" fans feel, but it's where I'm at. Even The Shining, my favorite of the books of his I've read, is only really scary when viewed as the story of an abusive alcoholic falling off the wagon, rather than a  goofy-ass haunted hotel.

I love Marc Evan Jackson in everything. One of the things that makes Thrilling Adventure Hour so great is that he uses pretty much the same ultra-dry delivery, but as an action star who rights the outlaw wrongs on Mars with both a laser gun AND a pair of robot fists.

For me, the pièce de résistance is when Jake lists one Cage movie too many and Kevin flops, crawls to the Zone of Safety and says to Jake "Are there no other actors?!" I just adore it.

It's weird what people think are obscure shows, because I was going, "Wait - hasn't everyone heard of Biker Mice from Mars? Or Mummies Alive?" (OK, I know the answer to both of those is "no", but I didn't think they were especially obscure). Though it was only because I've watched Brad "Cinema Snob" Jones videos on Tequila & Benetti (Tequila was a talking dog, but it was inconsistent whether it was just his internal monologue or whether Benetti, other dogs or other people could hear him) that I'd heard of that show.

I liked Trial & Error Season 1 more than the current season thus far.  I think the quirk started at an 11 this season.  Last season was a straight up send up of The Staircase.  This season they're doing the Jinx.

Of course there was a Love Boat-style show built around a nuclear powered cross country train, because 70s.  And I almost wish I could have watched Totem & Pole. 

I loved Game Time.  Dan Casino is a master game creator.

I should try it, but I was really turned off by the marketing, which featured a critic's blurb overtly making a Big Lebowski comparison. I love that movie, but I hate it when marketing for shows or movies try to reel me in with such comparisons.

Truly some of the clues were more obscure than the titles themselves. But you and I both know there were plenty of us thinking, "Well, Witchblade is bound to be next. I wonder whatever happened to Yancy Butler?"

ETA: every time I hear or read mention of Lodge 49, my brain runs through the same cycle of thoughts. From "Why no mention of Thomas Pynchon?" to "This show sounds right up my alley" to forgetting I had ever even heard of it until the next time it's mentioned. Peak TV, amiright everybody?

To "reboot" just means to reset the continuity of a serialized story. If continuity is not thrown out, and a show continues from where it previously ended, it should more properly be considered a "revival".

It was a pleasant surprise to hear my own Game Time coming up unannounced and not at all because it was a replacement Game! I don't know if it was my error or Dave's, but it definitely should be Louis 14th not 16th in Versailles. There were also a few "Well, actuallies…" in the list (Arthur Winters in Doctor Who is referred to as President Elect, Bruce Campbell played candidate Ronald Reagan in Fargo, though he would have been President by the final episode, but I needed to make up the numbers and decided against making all the additional footnotes). And Harry Shearer probably did voice George Bush (Sr) when he appeared on The Simpsons episode "Two Bad Neighbours". Not that it mattered much. Congratulations Tara!

ETA: Also, in my games it's always worth guessing Doctor Who as I think I've included one Who answer in every game I've done (though I couldn't in the one I'm compiling ATM).

I think Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee started to sour for me during the Louis CK episode. Not because of I knew anything about the allegations about him way back then, but because he told (what felt like) an incredibly long story about his boat running aground, and I could not for the life of me figure out why I suppose to want to watch two wealthy assholes sit around talking about the challenges of boat ownership. 

Hooray for Making It being the Winner of the Week! It really is such a charming show; I am excited to see what they do in Season 2.

I forgot what podcast first pointed out to me the huge demographic disparity among the guests of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, but looking at the wikipedia entry confirms that there's like 12 women guests and like 12 minorities among the 100 or so guests in the show's history. And one of the minorities happened to be Barack Obama! It's a really pathetic ratio, especially given Seinfeld's remarks about "I'm only interested in funny!" If you can't find women and minorities funnier and more relevant than Colin Fucking Quinn you aren't looking that hard.

It'd be time consuming to do a comparison with similar "comedian interviewing comedians" shows like the WTF Podcast (or any of the zillion other such podcasts), but WTF at least felt a lot more inclusive than CiCGC.

Well, it's never once occurred to me to watch Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, but I want to join the anti-Seinfeld pile on. How dare he not give Kesha a hug! Like, I don't want to hug Kesha either, but there's a way to do that without holding your nose and acting like your country club started letting women in the Coho Room during lunch.
