S10.E07: Oh My, Versailles

The whole parking at the airport thing defines them as people and as a couple. They have to do everything the hard way. They enjoy the strife and the stress and arguing.

That woman who owns "Versailles" looked like LeAnn Rimes from certain angles. That's not a compliment. Her house full o' crap was just consumerism personified. It was just gross.

I can't believe that gross old man put his hands on Megan. I'd have given him a quick shove and sent him right to the floor.

Jeff did the right thing - "Versailles" would have been a nightmare.  The combination of the Queen's bad taste and the King's lack of hubris would make them the worst possible client for Jeff Lewis Design.

Given the personalities, I can only see a lawsuit as the logical conclusion of that collaboration.

Leah, the Queen, and the King embody every vulgar stereotype that I associate with the term "nouveau riche"- from the careless attitude about pet procreation to the quiet acceptance of the money man's lewd and inappropriate behavior, watching the interactions actually bothered me.  None of their behavior was even the tiniest bit amusing to me.

And because that comment was so judgmental, I'll refrain from mentioning how much Jeff's lips bother me.  Ooops!  My bad.

It didn't look like Jeff and his team were amused, either. They camera shots of them sitting at the table not saying anything was so awkward.  Leah was getting off on it, though. She's such an attention whore, I wish Jeff would get rid of her. He could see that working with the classless King and Queen would have been a nightmare project. I was proud of him for not putting the almighty dollar ahead of what he knew would be a disaster. I did get a chuckle out the them wanting to go to Sea World to brighten their mood.  Watching acrobatic whales and dolphins will do that to ya!

Monroe looks exactly like Jeff. She's already got the lips.  It's kind of cute. It was nice to see her happy.

I don't for one minute think that Jeff ever intended to sign on as their decorator.  Their tastes and Jeff's are diametrically opposed.  I look at this as filler.

I did see the Queen of Versaille documentary on Bravo a few years ago.  I thought it left them near bankruptcy as their business "pyramid" imploded.  The house looks to be in the same shape as I remember it from that show.  I doubt they will ever move in.

I found it amusing that the night they are away is the first night that Monroe slept through the night.  She probably woke up, cried a little and settled herself back to sleep.  What was missing was Gage rushing in to pick her up.  Gage and Jeff don't realize that babies have to learn to soothe themselves; they will with the second one.

That house was vile - it may be the biggest but it will be the biggest TACKIEST house in America.  Its like they just scream I HAVE MONEY.  To quote the Countess "Money can't buy you class."

With all the money Jackie Siegel supposedly has, why hasn't she found a stylist who would give her a more age appropriate up to date look? That stringy blond hair looks circa 70's  and no one over 50 should be wearing hair that length.

Best diss: "There's no budget for that house."

"Well, it looks like there was a budget for that bathroom."

Seriously, how can anyone putting himself in charge of decorating actually utter the words, "There's only so much you can do with a bathroom," like Jackie's husband did? I've been planning my dream bathroom for my entire life.

He shows zero respect for his wife. I liked how Jeff seemed to jump in protectively by immediately saying, "If you know any single rich guys for Megan..." when the husband inquired about her marital status. If I were a boss I would be even more forceful about protecting my staff from sexual predators, though, no matter how rich the client. Shocking that a sexual predator who abuses his position and wealth would have a Trump banner hanging in his gilded house . . .

In Queen of Versailles it was obvious she was a hardcore hoarder of children, possessions, and pets. They could do an entire season of Hoarders about that chick. About that warehouse alone! I wonder if they learned anything at all from watching themselves in that film.

When I think of all of the victims of the hurricane in Puerto Rico and how people are doing without food and water, it makes me sick to see such an obscene throwaway of money.  I realize  it's their money but I don't think they have ever heard of the old saying "less is more"  I  literally had tears in my eyes watching that show.  At least Jeff had the good sense to turn down that job!

Lea Black looked like a mess at that restaurant.  She really is thirsty.  So glad Jeff turned down decorating that monstrosity of a house.  Not that it will ever be completed enough for his touch.  I think the whole thing was producer driven.

7 nannies, followed by the baby sleeping through the night for the first time while her parents are out of town. Part of Monroe's problem is her parents' behaviors. I betcha all those fired/quit nannies tried to tell Jeff and Gage how to do things better, they didn't listen, and by the time the latest nanny arrived they were too exhausted to get in her way.

Monroe does indeed look like Jeff - she has his lips.

Agree that the Siegel thing is show filler. David Siegel is a creaky old lech and Jackie is a clueless hoarder. I watched them horrified and fear for their children and pets.

I think we saw Megan's first formally-produced talking head, yes? And she's featured in the intro. So she's finally a true cast member.

Whoever said Jeff has sold out is correct. He has the right to live his life as he chooses, and it's clear he's always had the acting bug (having worked in a casting office), but at one time he tried to actually work as a serious flipper and designer. That's all gone now - he spends most of his time working on his own properties (endlessly) and appears on this show. And is reduced to having Lea and the Siegels on his show. Good thing Gage steered him towards the speaking engagements and product offerings.

I'm sure his career before the show was a lot more hectic - so if the show allows him to slow down and actually enjoy life ( and his family) then kudos to him for taking advantage of it.j

And when the show started I think he was only working on his own projects.  The design aspect didn't really come until the housing market crashed and there was really no money in flipping so he had to take on the design work. Now that things are trending up I believe he's already stated that he doesn't want to work for other people much anymore.  He has the ability to pick and choose.

One of the Siegels' older daughters died of a drug overdose while they were out of town, shortly after they taped an episode of Celebrity Wife Swap. The whole thing was very sad and weird. I guess there would've been no point to mentioning her on this show, but at the same time it was strange how they seem to have moved on without her.

Bull cookies. there's no age that requires someone to cut their hair. Her hair was no different than Megan's. you want to go after hair go after Lea she looked line it hadn't been combed in weeks.

I agree. I am not a person that thinks a woman over a certain age should have a certain length of hair. I do think, regardless of age, you have to take care of it though. I think it is easier to spot on longer hair when it could use a trim or a flattering cut, because it tends to start getting stringy with a lot of dead ends. Though I wondered if that was Jackie's actual hair or extensions.

I am a bit similar to Jeff, because when I watch Hoarders I start to clean and I am a fairly neat person anyway. If I walked into that warehouse I would probably go home and start throwing things out.

The talk about the alligators and hiring some one to hunt them  and how she likes alligator meat? Ugh!!

Her husband was a pig but she was worse. All  that crap, tasteless crass semi pornographic statues and just junk. At least Candi Spellings stuff was neatly organized and stored.

I'm glad Jeff told them they wouldn't make a good working team.

Out of all the shit in that warehouse, Jeff thought he could use "a couple dozen" pieces and I think he was being generous.

How about a cabinet to keep the dust off?

Oh wait, Leah is married to an old man...she is used to the dust...

Too bad the nanny euphoria lasted only one episode...she was good at teasing Gage...to the amusement of Jeff.

I agree with you. Obviously a lot of people here don't but I say if you are middle age and you insist on having long, outdated hair then condition the crap out of it, get it trimmed regularly and really put the time in it takes to keep your hair looking healthy because let's face it, as you age your hair thins out, loses it's shine and body. It's not going to look like it did when you were younger. And if you are lucky enough to still have thick, lush hair then good for you, you won the hair gene lottery.  Most of us aren't that lucky.  Queen Jackie has the means to get a great dye/highlight job and cut but instead it looks like she uses the $10 box from Walgreens. Again, ok for some but not if you are going to wear your hair that long and bleached.  Leah is another one that has the worst hair yet all the money to go to the best stylists. Oh, and for what it's worth, Meghan's hair is too long too.  JMO and I will get off my soapbox now.

Pretty much nothing's going to look like it did when you were younger. That's life. Accept that, and thrive. Physical appearance is certainly an important part of life, but maybe as you get older you realize there's more to life than worrying about how you look all the time.

It's all just personal taste, anyway. Personally I'm generally not a big fan of really short hair on any woman of any age (with some exceptions), but I know lots of people do like that.

I think this applies equally to short hair. If anything, I think long hair offers more camouflage for poor condition because you can always throw it in a ponytail or braid it or something. Not too many options with short hair other than a hat.

I do agree that the super-bleached blonde look doesn't suit too many women, like a lot of the ones on Real Housewives of Orange County over the years.

I live in Florida and agree with you. Why, why, why do the developers here insist on plowing down every beautiful tree in sight just to make way for some ugly, treeless cookie cutter subdivision. Maybe not so much in northern Fl but south and southwest Fl they do. They have ruined it for me. Can't wait to get out.

Just think of all the GOOD these people could do with their money if they had any awareness & compassion to help relieve suffering that's going on in the world.

Jackie clearly has a mental illness & I was sick from the gross display of consumer gluttony.  Spend a couple million at each auction?  Filling up semi-trucks at a time?  Breeding her dogs & giving the puppies as gifts?  ...Nothing is sacred.  She seemed pretty insecure & downright *dim*, and her husband David reminded me of a wannabe Hugh Hefner.  I don't think Leah enjoyed the interactions with him - she simply knows how to play the game around rich vulgar men.  They say gross things & she laughs so no one is outwardly embarrassed.  Later Jackie's comment that David didn't talk much about the meeting & was "more horny last night than anything" showed how socially clueless these people are.  Yeah, I get they are swingers & engage in lots of activity, but put a lid on it when the film crew is there, will ya?!

Very happy that Megan is now having THs, and I laughed outright when Jenni stated in her TH: "I'd be more nervous than a whore in church to take this job on."

Unlike others here, I do believe Jeff was open to taking on Jackie as a client, but that was before he went to Florida and got a glimpse that this was no-win situation.  Jackie was never going to stop buying crap and Jeff would ultimately have no authority.  That house will never get any further along than it is now- and like many have pointed out, it seemed pretty much at the same point it was years ago when the documentary was filmed.  It's a hobby project for Jackie and she lacks the focus to complete it.

I remember reading the online news story of her death; very pretty girl, too.  Hmmm.  Not sure if what we're seeing on t.v. is a facade.  Perhaps participation on a reality show may serve as a sort of therapy for parents still grieving the loss of their child.  I have never lost a child but know plenty of people who have and the pain, no doubt, is always present, despite appearances to the contrary.  Sometimes I think the hardest job you'll ever have (besides raising children) is losing one and trying to act normally in spite of it.

I think you're totally correct when it comes to normal people. David and Jackie are a very strange case. From The Queen of Versailles I got the impression that David really didn't care about the kids that much, especially Victoria, who Jackie had from a previous relationship. Jackie is a mystery. She apparently has a computer science degree and was successful on her own, but she comes across as a total dingbat. She took a lot of criticism for her odd behavior at Victoria's funeral (photographing the casket, wearing a revealing dress, carrying a zebra-print cup of coffee), and while those behaviors are unusual, people do grieve differently. I can give her the benefit of the doubt on that stuff, but she's just so vacant in general that I have no idea what she really thinks about anything.

I concur. I thought it was just a way to mix things up a bit this season - out of California, kooky potential clients. I found the scenes in their crazy house interesting, but the King definitely was not amusing. I definitely saw Jeff and crew sour on him at that dinner. But I don't think they EVER really had any intention of taking that house on.

Monroe appeared to have SEVERE colic the first few months of her life. That can make any PARENT want to run away, let alone someone who isn't as bonded to the child. I'm not saying Jeff and Gage's behavior didn't have anything to do with it. But when you have a "difficult" child like that, finding that right fit can be challenging.

No kidding. The length itself isn't the problem. It's the color, the style, and the fact that the length is mostly dead/damaged hair. A woman of her age could absolutely rock a longer cut if it was HEALTHY and styled properly for her facial features.

One thing I think is interesting is that nearly all the footage we see of Monroe is not from a full crew but from someone with a small camera so they are definitely making changes and limiting the sensory exposure to her.

You should watch the documentary. There is a particularly heartbreaking storyline with one of the nannies who:

Spoiler

uses one of the kids' abandoned PLAYHOUSES as her own personal space, because it's the only place she feels she can make her own. It's also revealed that she hasn't been to see her family in the Philippines in 10 plus years, and it has never occurred to the Siegels to give her the money/time off to go to see them.

I think the whole storyline was a just that, a storyline. I don't think Jeff was ever in danger at getting involved with those trashy grifters.
