leighroda May 3, 2017 Share May 3, 2017 I wish I remembered more specifically, but wasn't there a scene a season or 2 ago where Cate and Tyler had a potty chair in their living room, and Nova was on the show and people were mad (myself included) because there was a scene with nova sitting in the potty and pretending to push (overall I don't think it's a big deal, but I always cringe a little when they show something like that that happened before the kids a conscious of their actions, and could be fodder for teasing when they are a little older) I don't remember the specifics, but if that's true, then they have had that potty in the living room since she was like 18 months old. I think it's cool to let kids get comfortable with the potty, but it seems like they are being pushy about it, which can be counterproductive when it comes to potty training. 1 Link to comment

I'm not sure if it would have been different if Jenn contacted her directly, but it's possible Maci didn't realize how important the Edwardses felt it was for Bentley to see certain relatives, and was just looking at it from the angle of the random father taking Bentley away for several days. Maybe he's not cold. My husband is a big guy (though, largely muscle, nowhere near as big as Gary) and he does not get that cold in the winter. He routinely goes to work in just a t-shirt, or walks around the house in shorts during December. My little sister is very "hot-blooded" and I have hardly ever seen her in a coat. We live in the midwest! Some people just don't get that cold. Agree to both your paragraphs. I really have nothing to add or interject about the Maci vs the Edwards discussion. As for the Gary comment, one of my children is like your husband, ghoulina. He is rarely cold. He is very tall and thin. When he was a small boy, I would put long-sleeves on him, jackets and beanies when we went out somewhere at night and it was chilly. He would pull his jacket off and declare he was hot. To this day, as an adult, he rarely wears any long sleeves. If he can, he will wear dress shirts that don't have long sleeves. He says he is always feeling too warm. TMOG is so boring. Even the after-shows keep me more entertained. I really liked watching Deb and Barb snickering and snarking on certain scenes. Deb and Barb had good chemistry in their scenes. Watching them was so much better than watching Amber and Cate. Quote Cate after the clip of Farrah doing homework while Sophia tries to use the toilet, says something like, "Farrah, you are supposed to stay in the bathroom with the kid. Quote I figured they were only working on potty training her so they could send her to daycare, but not wanting to change diapers anymore seems plausible as well. @pakalolo except Cate and Tyler don't have Nova with them. April is her caretaker. Nova is only around when MTV is there. C&T ship off Nova for at least five days a week to April's per Tyler's comments two seasons ago. That is why Cate said her mom would love for her to have another baby. Yeah, so April could have another child to care for. All this baby talk comes easy to Cate because she is not having to care for her own child full-time. Edited May 3, 2017 by GreatKazu 6 Link to comment

mamadrama May 3, 2017 Share May 3, 2017 8 hours ago, ghoulina said: I don't really have a problem with them potty training Nova. It all depends on how receptive she is two it. I trained both my boys just months after they turned two. I think being sick of changing diapers is a valid reason; diapers suck. Of course, both times I had an infant at home, so I really didn't want TWO in diapers any longer than necessary. But they both caught on very quickly. I tried with my daughter (the youngest) around the same age, and no go. In fact, she wasn't trained until just before her 4th birthday. She is on the spectrum, so that definitely plays into it. But, just in general, some kids are ready sooner than others. I say if they're ready, go for it. And I prefer the no-pants training. I just let my kids run around naked and have accidents and they trained much quicker. Not for everyone, but it worked for me. It's always hard for me to judge Tyler and Catelynn on certain things, because I'm so relaxed about a lot of things as a mom, but they DO often come off as lazy, not "relaxed". I think there's a lot of passive aggressiveness with them too. Who's turn is it to change her? Who's turn was it last time? Having Nova potty trained may save these snippy little moments of Cate playing on her phone and shirking diaper duty, and Tyler being too much of a bitch to say anything. I am with you on a lot of these things. My kids were both potty trained before they were 2. They were ready, though. As a parent, you can tell when your child is interested and wants to try. I never pushed mine, but once they started showing interest in the potty, I encouraged them. I am also a fan of the no-pants training. I also let my kids run around naked. When they're potty training, letting them go without pants allows them to get to the potty faster. Little ones haven't yet learned how to "hold it in" so they need to get to the seat ASAP. Pants just slow them down. Of course, I dressed them when we left the house but, at home, we let them go au naturel. Our household is a very relaxed one, too. We work from home and don't have much of a set schedule. Our kids watch horror movies, bake cakes at midnight, go ghost hunting with us (heck, my 9-year-old son takes pictures for some of my books), and don't have a set bedtime unless we have something going on the next day. I generally don't have a problem with how other people run their households-as long as they don't try to tell ME how to run MINE. When it comes to the Teen Mom people, however, you're right-they come across not as relaxed but as lazy. And there are lots of things they do that we probably do but there's no way I would let them show it on TV. For instance, I would not have my kids running around naked on camera. Nor would I talk to them about adjusting themselves. Heck, I would at least brush my hair and change clothes once in awhile. 9 Link to comment

Bentley is eight years old, and his father is kind of a stranger to him. Worse, he's a disappointment whenever he's forced to do something with his own kid. And probably stoned or spaced out and disengaged as well. All of that makes Bentley really uncomfortable around him, and I don't blame him for feeling uneasy around Ryan, or Maci for being attuned to it. I get that Jenn and Larry get shortchanged in this scenario, but they a) raised the guy; and b) enable his do-nothing parenting and slacker ways. And maybe more to the point - Ryan's the father, and these kinds of decisions and discussions should be between the parents, not the grandparents. Since I think texting is a ridiculous way to co-parent with someone, maybe a better approach would have been for Maci and Ryan to talk about the bigger picture here instead of Maci texting "Nope. He's coming with us," and Ryan texting back "Screw you." But as I typed that sentence, I realize Maci's tried that a million times, to no avail. Jenn and Larry love being grandparents, but Ryan doesn't love being a father, nor does he have any interest in being one, and that's the bottom line. All the problems seem to stem from that. But Bentley IS comfortable around Jen and Larry. If he didn't have a relationship with his grandparents either then I would be on Maci's side on this. But he does. There is a good relationship with that side of the family and she's being an asshole trying to dictate holiday schedules. The fair way is to rotate every year. None of this "what do you want to do this year?" BS. Bentley probably has cousins he's familiar with in Texas and thinks it will be more fun. He seems to be more familiar with that side of the family so it's not surprising that if you give him a choice, he's going to choose TX. On 5/2/2017 at 5:55 AM, snarts said: I agree. So Amber is bi-polar with borderline personality disorder? I wonder if Gary knew that before this episode? Because grandparents have to tow a fine line sometimes. I went through this with my parents and my brother. My brother is SUPER laid back. probably woudln't get mad about anything but my mom was scared to speak up to him about something with his ex because she was worried he would get mad and not allow them to see my nephews. It should be automatic that since Bentley spent the holiday with Maci's family last year that Jen and Larry get him this year. No ifs, ands or buts about it. The bond and relationship with Jen and Larry is there, whether Ryan is around or not. My nephews have a great relationship with their other family. Their mom is a drug addict and many years has been in jail. My brother had a similar set up as Maci where my nephews would spend time with their grandparents instead of their mom. kira28 May 3, 2017 Share May 3, 2017 The only thing I will ever praise Amber for is deciding not to have a child with Matt. I don't care what excuse she uses. That's the best decision she's ever made. I don't think Amber enjoys children at all. She has more than enough evidence that Matt would make a shitty father. I never understood women who hook up with guys who don't have anything to do with their children then decide to have a baby with them. A girl I went to high school with dated a man who had three children with his ex wife. He didn't always pay his child support and the girl I went to school with complained that the courts were unfair and his child support was too high. She would encourage him to see his kids and formed relationships with them. They decided to get pregnant and she announced it on social media while complaining she couldn't afford the $30 anti nausea medication her Dr prescribed. She ended up having a miscarriage then getting pregnant again a few months later. When their child was only a few months old they broke up because he cheated. Now she constantly complains he doesn't pay his child support and doesn't see their son. Um you expected him to be different?? Caitlin needs to stick to her guns. No more children. She has no interest in the one she has. Baby Emilee is adorable. Funny that amber had all that surgery and Kristina looks better than she does. 18 Link to comment

If there is one thing I've always thought about that kid, is that he's always "on", even down to the clothes he wears. I highly doubt he wears tiny hats when MTV isn't there, and he probably doesn't put on this whole "woe is me, I need a storyline that focuses on ME" persona either. Oh, and Ty? Bob's Big Boy called. He'd like his bangs back. I think I agree with this! I think Tyler is laying groundwork for leaving Cate. He knows if he walks away he'll lose his fans and will no longer be the best! husband! ever! But, if he can spin it that he needs to leave in order to be his best self/father (otherwise he will continue to be depressed and unable to follow his passions), well then, he'll have fans that tell him how brave he is to make the difficult decision to put himself first.* *Not to say that there aren't people for whom this is a legitimate course of action. Tyler has always been all about Tyler (and his image) from day one, even when he pretends it's about someone else. 6 Link to comment

OMFG, Gary gets an award for not only NOT going off on Amber for this ridiculousness, but actually proposing a reasonable alternative (using that money for other gifts). She said that because she thinks that is what "rich" people say. She is trying to imply that the crappy chairs are not to her standards. I am thinking it is Matt's influence - remember how when they were moving to the new fancy neighborhood, he was saying things to her like, "we belong there, we have money, etc." She is trying so hard to play the part of wealthy lady, and she is failing so miserably. 22 Link to comment

Also, maybe don't suggest that on national TV to your son who looks like he'd rather do almost anything (besides get a real job) than touch Catelynn and a girl who obviously hates her life and is getting her only joys from pot and punishing Tyler for pressuring her to place Carly by suffocating him. Maybe suggest a vasectomy instead. HA!! I have two boys and neither were conceived in that, um, *style*! 5 Link to comment

(Although, they will often work on potty training in class. I did, with my kids.) Once you hit 3, that's generally when they need you to be potty trained to be moved up. Of course, this depends on the daycare, but that's been the case from my experience. I don't really have a problem with them potty training Nova. My kid's preschool had a lot of kids from low income families, and the teachers and staff were very pro active about potty training-they were all about helping the moms to save money on diapers! I locked horns with his teacher more than once because I had a more relaxed attitude and was perfectly willing to let him take the lead. I'm also a fan of the "no pants" method, which worked like a charm in one weekend once he was really ready. I'm a relaxed, unconventional mother, and agree that no one on this trainwreck is "relaxed". They are lazy, disengaged, and clueless. I just wonder why they were so hell-bent on having these kids. They have no interest in them. Except Maci. But even she uses her kid as a club to beat Ryan and his family with and that's not cool. Amber had all that plastic surgery, but she looks like she's packing on weight with a trowel. She and Matt are so miserable. Does she ever smile? Does anything make her happy? 4 Link to comment

Because grandparents have to tow a fine line sometimes. I went through this with my parents and my brother. My brother is SUPER laid back. probably woudln't get mad about anything but my mom was scared to speak up to him about something with his ex because she was worried he would get mad and not allow them to see my nephews. Which was the most ridiculous thing in the world!! However I can see how Jen and Larry may have that fear a lot because Maci can control things so easily and likes to punish ryan through them. They shouldn't have booked him a flight at all, no matter if Ryan asked or not. Ryan shouldn't have to ask. Mom is in jail and a holiday comes around...? They still go to their grandparents. You can't discount a relationship just because the father is a POS. I think the Holiday discussion boils down to communication between all parties. I do think Jen and Larry should of probably communicated with Maci herself and had a civil conversation about the holidays and how much it meant to them. I think Maci would of taken that into consideration. I think if Jenn and Larry can't have a conversation with Maci whom they get along with out of fear she will keep Bentley from them, then going on national tv and complaining about it is probably not a smart move. I think Maci is really just over bending over backwards for Ryan, and probably wishes she wasn't in a position where she now has to accommodate Ryan and/or Jenn and Larry as much as she may love them. Do I think that she could of "told" or "sold" the Alabama trip to Bentley? Sure I also think though that Maci is conflicted because she knows how uncomfortable Bentley still is around Ryan and I think she struggles with that. I have to say I felt for her when Maci says that she is tired of being the bad guy. I find Ryan to be completely useless as a parent, and as much as Makenzie is now there to hold his hand and push him into caring about his son he has shown to barely scratch the surface of being caring/dependable/trustworthy, etc. 9 Link to comment
gunderda May 3, 2017 Share May 3, 2017 Maci doesn't have to be the bad guy. She can set up a schedule that is agreed with upon all parties and stick to it. She doesn't have to wait for Ryan to take her to court. It would benefit her just as much to have some sort of thing in writing. I know soooo many families who have it way worse than Maci where the kids are forced to go to the other parents' who are a complete mess and the kids would be much better without them. Yet we have Maci who has a loving and caring relationship with Bentley's grandparents and she continuously wants to eff it up because she wants to stick it to Ryan. 3 Link to comment

vmcd88 May 3, 2017 Share May 3, 2017 If Farrah moves to California will she be able to bring Starburst. How much money does she make cause I'd image a house with a yard like the one she has in Texas would cost at least 3x as much in California. I get that Ryan sucks but may Maci could have had Bentley travel with the grandparents since I'm sure they'd be the ones taking care of him. Amber...chaircovers for a chuck e cheese type party room? Really Amber. It's like she doesnt have a clue about kids at all. 10 Link to comment

Totally agree. But look at the families on TM, most of them take every opportunity to put their mugs in front of the camera, no matter how humiliating or embarassing we might think it is. Look at Cate and Tyler. They have a party and dozens of their closest friends and family show up. I'm thinking that the MTV payday is part of the big turnout. Someone posted upthread that it wasn't even close to Nova's b-day. But hey, lets have party and get an MTV check. These people are shameless. I wonder how much they actually get paid just to be in the room when they are filming. Link to comment

That's what I always did !" When did you do that, Cate ? Your child is 2 and not potty trained. Maybe Cate was away in Boogietown when she did this. Cate also may have been confused by seeing someone doing actual homework, something she herself never did Kids often "perform" better when they don't have an audience. All kids are different. But neither of these buffoons would know, since Gary has basically raised Leah single-handedly, and Nova isn't even potty-trained yet! When it does happen, they can thank April....or the dogs. 4 hours ago, poeticlicensed said: If Farrah wanted to cut her mother out of her life, she could easily do it. But she continues to pull her mother back in, then the two of them beat each other up emotionally (and physically). Neither of them is emotionally stable. Sometimes its better just to cut ties. Yup, she wants her help, but cannot stand the woman if more than "hello" comes out of her mouth. I also sometimes think Farrah likes to have Debz around, because she perceives her mom is so crazy that she makes Farrah look better. 1 hour ago, heatherchandler said: She said that because she thinks that is what "rich" people say.
