if it is anything like the churches around here, it is a college age Bible study group, much like sunday school but in the evening and limited to that general age group. the freshman comment is becuase high schoolers have a different group to attend, and once you graduate, then you are considered a eligible to attend as a college freshman, for the first time.  they are probably acting as leaders and this particular event is the kickoff for the year.

This sounds like the perfect fit for them. They will be in their element, there will be opportunities for socializing - some of which might involve women who wear shorts- and kids outside of the family for Israel to interact with. I know nothing about this church or if it's even as strict as the Duggars but it doesn't seem like it and, hopefully, Jill will start to feel

comfortable around people who are similar to her but also others who are different. Baby steps.

It is definitely not as strict as where the Duggars go.  It's a regular Southern Baptist Convention church.  In this case it's a mega-church.  Some families (most) use some form of birth control, women don't dress like freaks, women hold jobs, men don't worry much about working for women, they're all free to join the real military, and the KJV isn't held as a standard.  It's the church Derick attended both before and after the Duggars.

Drop it like what?

I've been interning at a women's homeless shelter this week and last. A resident goes for a "drop" = peeing for a drug test. :D

I think Episcopalian is "Catholic Lite" from what I have heard.

Yup. Although there are theological differences between Episcopal & Catholic, the liturgy (words, prayers, confessions, etc) is nearly identical for your average Sunday service. I find the Anglican/Episcopal tradition kind of hilarious, because the only reason it exists is because Henry VIII wanted to divorce his first wife. Yeah, there was Protestantism in Britain already under other guises (Luther,Zwingli, Anabaptists) BUT the Anglican concept of Henry being the ultimate head of the church (not the Pope) was born of convenience.  (The Lutheran services I've attended have a similar liturgy, too, although I don't think that all Lutheran churches use the traditional liturgy.)

I always thought it was because they believed the woman "unclean" after giving birth to a super sinner female.

Anyways, Derelict is back in "school." I guess he and Jill will be writing more "term papers" this semester at Cross Church College? Sounds like glorified bible study.

So is God a visiting professor or something?  Is He a guest lecturer, doing magic tricks, standup, signing autographs or maybe He's turning water in to wine?

These people.  Ughhhh.

University of Arkansas.  The Razorbacks.

Classes start August 21 for Fall session.  I'd imagine a lot of students returning/moving into dorms this week.  Hence, the advertising of the Bible study geared to college students.  This could be a way for Jill to broaden her horizons, if only she would try.

All I see is the Comedy Central logo... Which would fit..

C3 seems to be some kind of program aimed at college-aged kids at Cross Church. Derelict is also participating in some way per the tweet I linked here last night.

I grabbed this from the FB page. Define Freshman. College kids? Church newbies?

So, are Jill and Derick working, volunteering, trying to get in on a mission trip, or what?

At my heathen Catholic Church anyway, those sorts of positions leading Bible study or youth groups are unpaid. The few positions for lay people that are paid are not anywhere near full-time and the compensation is minimal.

So, this is probably a once a week thing for them. I wonder if both of them will go each week.

I'd like to know how and why Derick was chosen for this, by the church, not what Derick would say led him there.

Well, we don't know whether they were any good at it or horrible at it or something in between, but I think that this really is similar to a lot of what they did in their "missionary" position. SOS is mostly a missioncation business -- and many if not most of the missioncationers are students and 20-somethings, I'm pretty sure. The interpretive dance, for example, was the exact same interpretive dance that's been done on many's the college retreat. So I think you could easily argue that this may be one of the few kinds of jobs that Derick at least has a bit of experience of.

Cross Church is in Fayetteville, right? and that's U. of Arkansas. So I'm sure the church recruits the campus heavily. So it may be a program big enough to need a fair number of workers of various sorts, perhaps?

I foresee quite the power struggle between Derick and the church. He will see it as his ministry, not as the church's ministry.

He's gone to that church pretty much all his life, I think. And it's huge. I doubt there'll be much opportunity for a power struggle, really. He'll just be a little cog in a very big machine.

Actually, he was raised and married at the Rogers branch. I wondered a couple of weeks ago why he called out another pastor's name in a tweet, rather than Ronnie what's his face who used to chair the SBC who is the lead pastor in Rogers. Not sure when they made the switch to Fayetteville (which is more local for them), maybe after they returned this last time?

I'm thinking more and more this is voluntary for them; not ever Derelict qualified to be a missionary. What makes him qualified for a paying job ministering to college kids, other than he was one at one time? Jill? I got nothin'.

STEP is the female equivalent to ALERT. It's only four weeks, and not nearly as rigorous as ALERT. This is understandable, given they take girls as young as 15.

I take that it is anti Girls Scouts?  They don't want to empower young girls & think they can achieve something besides being a brood mare for their version of Jesus.

Dreck's new 'ministry' has TLC plot line written all over it. The producers needed some new storyline for the Dullards now that SOS kicked them to the curb. I'm betting this 'ministry' will figure prominently in the new season.

Yes, this will be their "work" and will explain why Derick doesn't go out and GET A JOB.

We'll see bits and pieces of him "working on sermons" and the two of them "fellowshipping." It will not be interesting . . .

Well, they're all there tonight. I figured they'd dump the kids on Jana. Not sure why the FAMILY sign if this is a group aimed at college-aged kids who don't have families of their own yet. Still wondering if they're on the payroll or if this is a volunteer gig. I'm thinking the latter.

Jill is morphing into michelle with that posture. Missing back muscle indeed!

She just had her second c-section. Standing up straight was hard for months after mine and I only had one.

Ehhh, I didn't look twice at what I assume is that church's marketing slogan. Believers consider themselves to be spiritual brothers and sisters, and the phrases "church family" and "family of God" are heard all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if the college ministry is advertising to students, "We'll be your substitute family while you're away from home."
