They were off in DC living their own life. If while in DC he was discovering that he liked women who were professional or a bit more "take charge" or the jeans/t shirt type or just having short hair and modern and not what he grew up with -- well, couldn't he have told his wife that's what he found hot and she could have "reinvented" a bit to get her man riled up? I'm not married, but don't married couples do that? I feel like I definitely hear friends saying -- oh my husband is growing his hair a bit longer and a 5 o clock shadow beard bc I think that's so sexy. Or I see women doing various things with their hair bc they know their husbands will like it. And that's just stuff I hear -- I bet there's more "talk" that happens in the bedroom as people tell their partners what is a turn on or not. I mean supposedly he thought Anna was cute -- he chose her and she didn't just appear at his doorstep; well can't a girl you found cute be "re-made" into whatever you're currently finding hot? Instead of you cheating on your pregnant wife??

Still much more pissed at Jim Bob and Michelle over this. It could have been prevented. Those poor kids not being able to discover and explore. His profile could have been much more gross. It is actually pretty tame. He's a typical guy that has been completely fucked up sexually by a twisted "religious" system. Taking your kids to 6 month check ups, removing wisdom teeth and the appropriate times and straightening crooked teeth is not obsession. It may be the one good thing they have consistently done for their kids. Crooked teeth as an adult can cause jaw problems, malnutrition. It isn't just about having a pretty smile.

Yes, the Duggars are obsessed with dental care in comparison to other very important aspects of nurturing and preparing them for life [eyeroll]. And for me, I can't help but find that somewhat incongruous given the nature of their ridiculous rearing of children.

Reading his profile "wants/desires", I did not think they were anything too kinky.  Pretty normal and main stream and kind of sad actually. This speaks volumes for the warped Gothard teachings. Anna also grew up in an uber religious environment in which even a simple kiss is saved for marriage. She's probably been so conditioned to think physical intimacy is sinful that she just grits her teeth and submits for the purpose of getting pregnant but gets no enjoyment out of it. She probably doesn't even know much about sexual practices beyond the tried and true missionary position.

Strictly a guess, but I have a feeling Josh may have tried to get her to loosen up and go along with his fantasies, but got shut down. Rather than seeking some sort of Christian-based marital therapy that she might have gone along with, he eventually chose an enormously stupid, risky alternative -- seeking sex elsewhere. That he is a risk taker was already well established by the multiple times he molested his sisters under the nose of his parents. No doubt the Ashley Madison website made all kinds of guarantees of confidentiality. However, a man in his position at the time -- the public face of a conservative family values organization - should have known better than to get involved. He's a fool.

I feel bad for the kids, and I hope if Anna doesn't flee immediately, that they get themselves to real counseling. I have a feeling there will be no response from Boob and J'Chelle. There's nothing they can say that would put lipstick on this pig. Just a cluster you-know-what all around.

I understand your visceral reaction, and I said something similar yesterday about the dogpile going on in the gossip magazine comments. And yes, unlike the Duggar family and their associates, I do believe that expressing joy over the downfall of people who live their lives differently than I do is in questionable taste.

That said, we've been censoriously nannied about not judging Josh by people who regularly consign others they know nothing about to hell, not unlike Josh himself. I think it's a bit much to ask that people not have as one component of their reaction a recognition that a person they've been judged by was caught in hypocrisy.

I completely agree -- JB and J'chelle are at least partially to blame for Josh's behavior. Not touching anyone, ever, until engagement; not kissing anyone, ever, until marriage; not interacting with other young men and women, etc. does not result (for most people) in a lifetime of monogamous marital bliss.
