Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

We wondered how the leghumpers could possibly defend/support Josh now. Well, wonder no more - 'Its obvious to anyone that poor Josh has been framed. A christian like Josh would NEVER do something like that.'

Yup....can't make this shit up. The icing on the cake would be if Anna actually buys the crapload that its a conspiracy to take down poor Josh.

I saw a picture of that adorable little McKenzie--I feel so bad for those kids and I hate to think of what the future will bring.

I hope that the one good thing that will come out of this is that Anna will do some serious soul-searching (not just bible thumping), and have a great big think over whether or not this is truly the life she wants for her daughters.

Let's look at the one silver lining to this from the Duggars' perspective: at least Josh was soliciting women, not men.

The second I first laid eyes on Josh, my gaydar shot up to eleven. I dunno. Considering the Duggars and their ilk believe being gay is literally the worst thing on Earth (besides being an "abortionist" or possibly, a gay abortionist), Josh has tried everything illegal and immoral to chase the gay away. Just my theory.

I'd imagine the situation for a Gothard woman who is divorced but unable to remarry would be the same if not worse (depending on the state where they lived). No education to speak of and no work experience outside of the home, etc. The only option women seem to have is to be a wife & SAHM, it seems like the easy fix would be to marry them off to someone else? What do these women do, particularly if they live in states where getting more than temporary alimony isn't common, there isn't a great deal of paid-off community property, and child support enforcement is lax? (I'm not saying it should be another man's job to support someone like Anna and her kids, but it seems like since marriage is a woman's only way in their culture to have a life independent from her parents, what do they suggest as a way for a woman to house/feed herself and kids?)

I don't think Gothardites have a plan for divorced mothers, they'd rather pretend they don't exist.  I can't imagine why a divorced person would want to remain a Gothardite.  Even if the divorce was plainly the other spouse's fault, you'd still have that air of failure and other Gothardites would treat you differently.  And if you couldn't remarry?  Screw that.

My mother-in-law was married to a man who was a perpetual cheater. When her daughters were pre-teens, she caught him cheating with her youngest child's babysitter (who was of legal age). She realized her daughters knew what was going on and that she was teaching them by example how to let a man to treat you. She says knew that she couldn't stay and partake in teaching her daughters that it's okay for a man to treat you that way since it'd kill her to see her kids go through what she went through with her husband. I hope Anna thinks about what type of example she is setting as far as teaching her daughters how they should be okay with being treated and for her sons as far as how to treat their wives. (And of course, Josh should be ashamed at the example he has set.)

Where did that quote come from?

This might be a good time for Dim Boob to start checking out that island-in-the-middle-of-nowhere that's for sale.

I realize that many of us on here hope that Anna is able to divorce Josh...my gut feeling is she won't....if she can live with the fact that Josh abused his own sisters, she will also live with the fact that he was looking for some side action....I personally feel that the whole sister molestation was much worse than the typical looking for action on the side....the 2 things together??  Bad.....very, very bad...and they have 2 young daughters...my heart aches for those little ones....but I do not see Anna leaving or divorcing....

Precious Gothard sexy speak for keeping sweet.

Yay I can't wait for one of the women Josh had sex with to come forward and give us the details of how bad in bed he is!

$5 says one will be super skanky and another one will look like Mama June's sister.

Can you imagine all the excuses he came up with?  Eventually his excuses scrapped the bottom of the barrel I suppose.

"Honey, the FRC is having an emergency meeting tonight because Blaine cheated on Kurt on an episode of GLEE and we're going to use it against the Gays."

He probably told her he was going to the gym, or would that be too obvious to Anna that something hinky was going on? Why do I feel like a Lifetime movie based on the Josh Duggar scandal(s) is in the works?

I was never involved in Gothard so I can't speak for that group.

BUT, fundamentalists allow divorce under certain circumstances. Adultery is one.

AND, while divorce might be very drastic, Anna is allowed to walk out.

Again, Don't know Gothard but the fundamentalist Baptist churches I went to always had some single mothers. My parents were separated, not divorced.

I really think Josh might be shunned and Anna might leave. Cheating is really a HUGE rule to break. There are always those crazies in every religion that stay no matter what horrible thing a man does but I don't know if Anna is that crazy.

Depending how the religious beliefs work exactly, Josh might get a visit from church elders who are going to confront his sin. I hope so!

Adultery is grounds for divorce even in the covenant marriage that Jill and Derick had, so I imagine that a divorce could happen here, after a period of counseling, of course. I don't think they would allow a divorce without an attempt to keep the wifey chained to the cheater first.

First time in this thread, but I've been thinking about this since the news of Duggar-Madisongate came out. and this is the place to post it!

I know this will never happen, but I'd love to see Anna leave Josh, then move with her kids to NYC where TLC films her own reality show, providing her with an apartment and a Nanny to help out.  She would get a job in one of those cute art stores where you can make and paint your own pottery (or a quaint, little bakery), and date really nice men.

I'd watch the heck out of that show.

It is one thing to forgive a spouse for something they did when they were much younger and seemingly contrite over.  Heck, you can even forgive your spouse for an affair, but how many women can forgive their husband for humiliating them twice in less than six months in front of the entire nation?

I think the family will rally together and deny deny deny and claim this is all further proof of the "agenda" against them.  If there is too much foolproof evidence against Josh for any plausible deniability then I predict Anna will stand by her man through thick and thin.  Josh will claim he signed up in a  moment of weakness (and never cancelled the subscription) but never actually cheated on Anna.  Jimbob and Mechelle will do their best to cover for him and blame others for unfairly targeting their holier-than-thou family for their Christian beliefs.

I honestly don't see Anna or Jimbob/ Mechele publicly rebuking Josh much less separating themselves from him.  It will be frustrating to watch Anna reduce herself to this but I would bet money that is how they will handle this mess.

I looked up the Ashley Madison site on Wikipedia and apparently it was invaded by hackers about a month ago who demanded it be shut down immediately or else the names of all the members would be released publicly. Names were to be released starting July 21 and all were to be made public by August 18.  I read something about despite the "guarantee" of making a dating connection, that most men felt ripped off and it was about 70% male, 30% female who used the site. If this is all true, I don't see how this can be a fake account by Josh Duggar. I suppose we'll find out in the next few days. I have a feeling that the family won't comment on this incident.

I can actually imagine Jim Bob wanting to punch Joshua for this. The family was so very close to repairing their brand and their relationship with TLC.

I agree and I don't blame him. This is a colossal fuck-up for Josh. It's unimaginable that he could be this stupid. Even if the site had never been hacked, there's a good chance one of his flings would've spilled the beans to a tabloid, especially if rumors were circulating the Duggars were going to be back on air.

Boob and Michelle may have failed in many ways, but this one is all on Josh.

It's interesting that he said he would need to sleep with someone before marrying her, and that it is okay to live together before marriage. Hmmm... If he truly believes that, it makes me wonder if he's realized his parents' courtship model is a load of crap.

ETA: he really is an arrogant little f'er, isn't he?

Do you feel there are any circumstances in which a person is obligated to have sex with you?

Yes

There's a word for that and it rhymes with 'ape'.

Also- his likes are freaking hysterical. Tall girls, short girls. Professional ones, casual ones. Long hair, short hair.

I'm hearing his checklist in the rhythm of a Dr Seuss poem-story.

Ah, what an interesting day it's been here today. Am I the only one hoping it is debunked? This is just too much for Josh and tragic for his wife and children. One of the other Duggars needs to entertain us, and lighten it up a little. Just a single guy caught with a super hot girl or a gal caught making out with someone unapproved. That's all I ask.  The Grifter/Dillards entertain me with their audacity to beg for funds and their modern dance, Benessa is kinda fun to snark with their staged stud photos and Jessa's modest sausage shirts but . this though, oh Josh.. oh Josh you've jumped the shark.

Josh's okcupid answers sound like they're coming from a horny 16-year-old anxious to get laid for the first time. No side hugs or Bible verses in those responses. He wants sex on the first date. He wants it everyday. Sex is what interests him. He wants to discover a new lover's body. He is interested in sexual role playing. It's ok to live with someone before marriage. Not answers one would expect from a Duggar.

Josh and Anna had no physical relationship (other than some steamy handholding) prior to the I do's. Since the wedding, she's had multiple pregnancies and has the responsibility of taking care of four small children. She was raised with the idea that a woman must be modest so as not to stir up sinful thoughts in men but also taught that her worth is tied to her fertility -- having as many children as possible. It's easy to imagine a Gothard wife considering sex strictly as a means to an end and a wife's duty to her husband. Certainly not the stuff of porn fantasy.

Josh's sexual appetite is apparently voracious and he wants more than what he gets at home -- whatever that is. I can't help but think that had he been allowed to be that normal kid who played spin the bottle, had girlfriends, dated, and had sex, he would have been less likely to have experimented on his sisters or been forced into an early marriage with a sheltered young woman whose goal in life is to spit out babies like a Pez dispenser shoots out candy.

It was obvious when Anna informed him that baby #4 was on the way that he was less than thrilled. He just seems so over the husband /provider role. He just wants casual sex without responsibility -- the teenage/young adult flings that are forbidden in his world. Unfortunately, he's a married father of four who's been reminded, painfully, yet again, that actions have consequences. He and his family will be living with the aftermath of his poor choices for a lifetime.

Maybe he's just trying to inflate his child count.  Weren't Boob and J'Chelle already past 4 kids at his age?

By golly, King David and Solomon got to have multiple wives and concubines, so can Joshy.

Gee, why am I not surprised more men are on the site than women. Though I heard it was more 60/40

60% men

35% men posing as women for various reasons including "lulz"

5% women

The Josh Duggar Ashley Madison account has to be bogus. He's not that stoopid, people.

The correct answer is: "Yes, Josh really IS that stupid." But we do have some nice parting gifts for our contestants, including the Ashley Madison home game and a year's supply of tater tots.

I asked this question in the media thread, but it really belonged here:

If Josh had an affair, he'd be smart enough to wear a condom, wouldn't he??

Unless one of them turns up pregnant.

Oh honey. Ya wanna see glee on the snark site?

Maybe it's just simple arrogance (combined with stupidity). He sure as heck came across as an arrogant little piss-ant in the Kids and Moving special, which happened pretty much in the midst of the molestation mess. If he could come across then as arrogant, haughty and apparently convinced that the world was his oyster and his dark secrets would never come to light, it seems as if he could make the same arrogant assumptions at any other time. Not least when getting the FRC job may have inflated his ego even more.

100% agree. What we probably have here is a melange of Arrogance + Naivete about the "heathen world" + the normal cluelessness and unearned superiority we all had in our teens and 20s. With the unending patter of "Oh Josh, you're so wonderful. You're going to do wonderful things..." continually being blathered by Boob, Me-chelle and Anna. I for one think it is SO interesting that he poses himself as a university graduate. If he really believed the whole Gothard-Boob line about education not being valued and important, why in the world would he have done that?

I can't wrap my head around how fucking stupid Josh is. He moved to DC to take a job for a "family values" aka Christian lobbying group, and he signed up for this at the same time? How can anyone be so reckless?

I feel so sorry for Anna. She's humiliated even if no one took up Josh on his offer to cheat on her. He paid to maintain this open offer for two years. He signed up for a second account with a money back guarantee. "Sex with anyone but Anna, or your money back!"

People is finally reporting this

http://www.people.com/article/josh-duggar-ashley-madison-account-cheating-molestation-scandal

Pertinent info: Duggar's family has been struggling to move on after the cancellation of their hit TLC show 19 Kids and Counting in the wake of his initial scandal. And now, a source who has worked with the family says the latest allegations will likely only cement the network's decision to end their relationship with the Duggars.

"It was pretty improbable that there were going to be any specials on any of the Duggars anyway," the source tells PEOPLE. "But now, with this, there's virtually no chance. It's basically just over now."

A rep for the Duggars did not immediately respond to calls for comment.

Translation: TLC execs are on their knees as we speak, thanking the Baby Jesus that they decided to cancel 19KAC before Josh could dig the hole any deeper.

A big old heaping helping of karma has been served and the Duggars are being forced to eat it.

Goodnight, friends!

And in this case, the karma was canned and found on the 'No Labels' shelf at Aldi's, expiration date unknown. It was served, to Josh at least, cold and right from the can.

I feel for poor Anna because she tried to be the best Fundie wife ever. I don't believe that she knew about Josh molesting his sisters until InTouch broke that story but was forced to lie at the behast of Boob and Mechelle,. I don't think that her parental units will be helpful since they seem to be allowing poor Esther to be stuck with her POS husband in Zambia and didn't seem to mind that she and her eleventy children were living in a pop up tent trailer before they left for Zambia. I am not surprised that Josh may be cheating but I hate that he is so blatant about it.

Anna, please take Boob's money and run.

The family might have come to terms with what a seemingly remorseful Josh did to his sisters when he was 14, but they must be stunned with how little concern he has for them by actively risking their livelihoods with an Ashley Madison account.

I'm not yet convinced that this latest outing is true, however I really wouldn't be surprised. We'd heard rumors about "sin in the camp" and we all know those had substance. There are also rumors that Josh used to frequent strip clubs in a nearby town when he was in his late teens. While there's been no proof that these are true, the Ashley Madison story, taken in conjunction with the rest, suggests a pattern of behavior that's pretty convincing. Josh never stopped being "a little too curious about girls" and it seems he'd been pretty much getting away with it (even the molestation, given the possible consequences). No wonder he grew up smug and entitled and thought he could get away with the Ashley Madison account.

I doubt any women will be coming forward claiming to have hooked up with Josh. Anna will not divorce Josh or even leave. Her family will not step up to rescue her. Her father would have known the truth about Josh and still offered his daughter up to him. (And he's proven his parental mettle with Esther.) Whatever they say, patriarchal societies rarely consider male infidelity an issue in practice. Anna will just be expected to suck it up, accept the blame and carry on being the dutiful wife with the adoring gaze.

It's sickening that, with the world available at our fingertips, these cults are still able to convince women that they are worth so much less than a man.
